User ImageKwamua had been in search of this place since his mother had passed. When she was alive, he hadn't given it a second thought. Why would he want to live in a pride, where there are a whole bunch of lions, you have to share, there are rules, and you're never alone? He'd often had these thoughts when his mothers rambles began, about her home as a cub, a place of plenty, where everyone and everything was accepted, and there was peace.

Then she died.

It was her death that drove Kwamua to find the Pridelands, the birth place of his now dead mother. It was his was of honoring her. Sure, he hadn't been the best son, and he'd caused a lot of trouble, but when she passed, something clicked inside him and he knew it was the right thing to do.

So he'd set out, and eventually, he'd found it.

"Pride Rock?" He asked himself as a large, grey shape appeared on the horizon, similar to what his mother had mentioned. This must be it, he thought to himself.

My new home.

The young cub had spent the morning exploring, like cubs do. This one particularly had a strong sense of adventure, which drove him to almost every corner of the pridal borders, and sometimes, even over them. Never for long though, because almost as soon as he stepped foot over the edge of the boundary, a guard would come to escort him back home.

Bayard scowled. Why did they have to be such drags?

The bright green tuffed cub had made it to the western border today, and was on the lookout for anything that might be interesting. They're had been an influx of rogue lions into the pride recently, and he'd wanted to find one on his own.

It was when he saw the other brown lion that cloudy blue eyes light up. That must be a rogue!

Curiously, but confidently, the young cub strode over to meet the new lion, not a care in the world that they could be dangerous.

Kwamua stopped moving and focused on the young lion coming his way. A cub? That didn't seem like much of a welcoming committee, or a guard system. But whatever, he supposed there were adults watching somewhere, and if he did anything wrong they'd be on him in a second.

Still, he looked puzzled, but perhaps the cub was just as confused as he was, after all, he'd be an unfamiliar face, it could be that the young cub was coming up to question him.

Or he was just doing what most cubs did. Stupid things.

"Hey there little man," he greeted the cub as they closed in on each other.

"Uhh... what are you doing out here by yourself?" He asked, certain that if it was his cub, he'd want to keep an eye on him.

"I'm on the lookout. Duh..." Came the quick reply from the small brown cub. What else would he be doing out here. What kind of stupid question was that? Only adults would ask that type of thing. He sighed. Adults were all the same, they never understood.

"I could ask you the same thing!" Challenged Bayard, giving the older lion his best interrogation look.

"Are you a rogue?" Bayard cocked his head to one side and sat down, staring at the adult, waiting for an answer.

Kwamua laughed at the cub. This was entertaining! Perhaps this place wouldn't be so bad after all.

"Hah, you could, so why don't you?" He replied in mocking, pulling an over exagerated mysterious face in the process. Might as well enjoy playing with the kid.

"I am indeed a rogue." He nodded solemnly. Hopefully not for much longer though.

"Actually, that's why I'm here..." he began.

"I knew it!" Exclaimed the cub, excitement on his face, cutting off the adult before he could continue.

"I could tell you were a rogue. I just could tell," Bayard was obviously pleased with himself. He'd set out to find a rogue, and he had! Wait until he told his brothers and sisters. Perhaps not his mother, he was sure she'd be angry at him for going off alone.

"So, Mr. Rogue. What is your name, and why are you here?" Questioned the cub, suddenly turning serious again.

"It's Kwamua." He replied with a smile. This kid sure knew what he was doing, or at least thought he did.

"Well, that's what I was starting to say, before you interrupted me." He said, smiling to show he didn't mean any harm by his comment.

"This is the Pridelands isn't it? Is that Pride Rock?" He asked, nodding to the large structure behind them.

He continued to gaze around the area, forgetting about the cub for a moment. It was truly beautiful. He was glad he was taking the first steps towards making this his home.

"I'm Bayard," said the cub, puffing his chest out as he introduced himself, a pleased look on his face. The cub was happy he could tell the story of the dangrous rogue, Kwamua, whom he fought bare handed into submission. At least that's what he imagined.

"Hello!" He sighed as the lions attention drifted elsewhere. That was adults, always off in their own little world.

"Yes, this is the Pridelands," the cub made a sweeping gesture with his paw, indicating the invisible line between them that was known as the border.

"Yes, that's Pride Rock." He said bluntly, bored with the questions. Wasn't that his job anyway?

"So? Are you going to tell me why you're here?" He asked, getting impatient.

"Oh, sorry." He apologized to the youngling, snapping out of his awe.

"So... do you think I could join? Or could you take me to the ones who I can talk to to ask about joining?" He asked, hoping the cub would have answers.

"I'd like to call this place my home." He nodded solemnly. My mother may have never made it back here, but I'll do it for the both of us.

He wondered if the cub would have the answers he was looking for. Perhaps it would have been better if he found an adult to talk to, someone who knew more about these sorts of things.

Bayard looked pleased. He'd not only found a rogue, but a rogue that wanted to become a member of the pride! The cloudy blue eyes danced, this was the best adventure yet.

"I know where to go! We go and see the council. They'll let you stay, or tell you to go." He nodded, at least, that's what he thought you were meant to do. But Bayard was rarely wrong, at least, in his own opinion.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine." He assured the adult.

"There's been a bunch of lions joining recently. Good thing too, after what those Hyena's did." He nodded before turning around, facing the large structure that was known as pride rock.

"Well, follow me!" He said, and started off at a march towards the centre of the lands.

"Uh, alright then." He stammered out. Perhaps the cub knew what he was talking about after all.

Suddenly, he felt nervous. What if he wasn't allowed to stay? What if he wasn't accepted. All these thoughts would never have bothered him before, but now, with his mothers passing, he felt it was his duty to come back to her home, to live out the rest of his life. What if he couldn't?

There was always that chance, no matter what the young cub said. He only hoped that the cub was right, that he could stay.

This is it, he thought to himself as the cub turned and lead the way. The start of your new life.

"Wait, what did you say about Hyenas?" He asked as he followed the bounding cub to the centre of the lands, and to the start of his new life.

"Don't worry, the war's over! The adults took care of that." He said cheerfully. Obviously the cub hadn't grasped the seriousness of the situation that the pride had just been in. But, then again, he was just a cub. Maybe when he was older he would understand the severity of what really happened.

Right now he was just happy he had a new friend.
