Their cubs had long sense moved out and gotten their own lives, and with Gliri gone, the den just felt too big lately. Lipi honestly hadn't noticed how alone she was with Muscar until recently. She'd been busy honing her hunting skills, or just talking with Muscar and teasing him. Golden eyes watched her mate as they did their morning hunting route. She honestly didn't intend to fall in love when she met Muscar. She'd never admit how she felt about him out loud, but she had ways of letting him know. Teasing, cuddling sometimes, or just generally being in a good mood.

It brought back memories of her sister. That vile creatures used to be her friend at one point. Yes, growing up with their parents, Lipi and Pili were best friends. It all changed with Pili started getting whatever Lipi was trying for. Pili started stealing her friends, the males who were interested in her... There was just so much to hate Pili for. The final straw was when Pili tried to steal the father of her first cubs away.

That was when she ran away from her homelands. That's when she learned to never show interest in anything. It saved her a few times and got her in trouble more often than not. Sighing, she shook her head and chuckled to herself before something caught her nose. Arching a brow she crouched down in the grass and followed the scent. It smelled so familiar...

A skilled tracker, Muscardini had been aware of the scent of a lioness around the land where he and Lipi made their home for some time. It would have been impossible for him not to notice, especially since he had been hoping for a sign that his twin would return to him. To his surprise, he really did love Lipi and she filled a place in his heart that he hadn't realized needed filling until he met her, but she could not take Gliri's place, and he missed his sister fiercely.

It had been disappointing to Muscar when he went to investigate the other lioness's scent more closely one morning while Lipi was still asleep, for he had learned that she was neither Gliri nor any of the cubs he and Lipi had produced and raised. He was sorry that none of them had been back to visit him and Lipi, and he knew Lipi noticed their absence, too. Maybe they should consider having another litter of cubs to fill the den once more...

He watched with an indulgent smile as Lipi practiced stalking, following one scent or another, but did not interfere. She was older than he was, as he often forgot, and knew perfectly well what she was doing, even if she preferred to leave hunting and tracking up to him much of the time. Unlike Gliri, she didn't need his supervision.

Yes, tracking was just no fun for this lion. Thus she left it up to her mate. Either way, she might be rusty but she remembered as she went along what she was doing. It wasn't until they were almost upon the cause of the scent did she remember where she'd smelt this before. It was that damned sister of hers back to steal whatever she had. Eyes narrowed as she stood up straight and looked around. Sure enough, a few paces away from her was a den where the scent was coming from. "..... The gods really hate me, don't they?" she said bitterly to herself, sighing.

She looked back to Muscar and shook her head. "...... This is someone I know," she explained after a moment of trying to decide how she wanted to tell him.

"I should hope you know me, big sister," came a nearly identical voice to Lipi's. Pili's however, was an octive or two higher than Pili's. The white lioness had smelled Lipi approaching and had come to investigate. "I see you finally noticed I was around. Your handsome... friend here knew a little bit ago.." she said, coming up to rub against Lipi. She knew Lipi hated it. Pili just loved annoying the hell out of her sister. It made her grin.

Lipi, however, bristled and closed her eyes before stepping back toward Muscar and glaring. "This is Pili.."

Muscar had been following Lipi at a short distance once it occurred to him she was following the trail of the strange lioness. He had not bothered to seek the lioness out since she didn't seem to be a threat and there was plenty of game to go around now that he had only himself and Lipi to hunt for. However, now that Lipi mentioned the familiarity of the scent he was definitely curious and couldn't help hoping the trail did bring them into contact with this lioness his mate knew.

The sudden appearance of a white lioness whose markings seemed to be Lipis in reverse didn't exactly surprise Muscar. He hadn't been growing angry about the past as they went along, and had no other distractions except the usual distraction Lipi posed when he watched her and thought about how happy she made him. In other words, he had also been aware of the white lioness's approach and arrival.

The exchange between the two was interesting, but not entertaining or amusing. He had grown up with a sister who was made uncomfortable by almost everything, and he didn't think it was humorous to deliberately add to another's discomfort. Lipi's sister was not making a good impression so far, and calling him handsome only embarrassed him. He really didn't think of himself that way.

"Hello," he greeted Pili. "I'm Muscardini."

Pili purre as she looked Muscar over from head to toe and shifted closer to him. "Hello indeed. You're her mate then? From the way you're frowning at me, I think that's it." She chuckled and turned back to her sister, starting to circle her. "Why didn't you tell me you had a mate, hm? Did you have cubs already?" She licke at her sister's cheek in an overly friendly way and jumped back when Lipi struck at her. Laughing again Pili's tail flicked and she looked between the two.

"Would you stop touching me? You know I hate that!" She said, her fur getting ruffled already. She hated having a sister. Completely unlike Muscar, Lipi wouldn't cry if she heard her sister was dead. In fact, she was sure one day Pili would die by her paw. Taking a few breaths, the brown liones glared at her little sister and rolled her eyes. "Becaue I avoid you, that's why. It's none of your business if I've had cubs or not. You wouldn't be allowed to see them, anyway!"

A pout appeared on Pili's face at her sister's harsh words. "You wound me, sister! Why couldn't I see my own nieces or nephews? It's not just your choice you know..." She turned to look at Muscar with a flirtatious smirk.

Princess_Feylin
"Yes," Muscar said simply. "We're very happy together."

After her outburst Muscar unconsciously shifted so that more of his body was between Lipi and her sister. He didn't think on any level that Pili meant her sister any physical harm, but he had grown up protecting his sister from everything to the point where it was instinctive to put himself between loved ones and potential threats.

With his tail he tapped Lipi's paw, reminding her that he was here and that she didn't need to shout or get angry. He was with her and so far her sister was not succeeding in winning him over, if she was even trying to do that. He really couldn't tell.

When Pili appealed to him he kept his expression bland and informed her, "I wouldn't second-guess my mate in this. If she had told me she didn't want you to see our cubs, I would have gone along with it."

Though personally he thought it was a shame how Lipi and her sister got along. Or, rather, how they didn't get along.

Lipi looked to Muscar when he got between them and sighed softly. She was probably on the track to attack Pili if this continued any more. Still, they couldn't just leave. Pili would probably follow them and get all their prey. She closed her eyes again and took a few deep breaths when Muscar said he wouldn't second guess her. That made her very happy.

"Look, Pili, I don't have the time, patience, or energy to deal with your stupid sob stories we'll be hearing, so just stuff it. You're alive, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Lipi's tone held no feelings at all. It was like she was talking about the weather.

Pili rolled her eyes and snorted. "Bitter. You're like an elephant. You'll never forget my childish antics from when we lived together, will you?" she asked, batting her eyelashes and trying to get on her sister's good side. Too bad she knew that ship had sailed. Chuckling she looked at Muscar and sighed.

He hadn't lost any appeal. In fact, his loyalty to Lipi made her want to break them apart. "Mmm... I bet you two made quite the litter..."

Princess_Feylin
Muscar really had no idea how to intercede and separate the siblings before something truly unpleasant happened. Raising his own cubs had not prepared him for this, as none of them had developed anything like this sort of relationship. Lua was the only male, and so that had been a little difficult for the boy at first, but none of the girls had been inclined to act like this.

He was curious about the behavior Pili described as childish antics, but he wouldn't ask now. He would leave that question for later, when he and Lipi could discuss it alone. It would have been nice if Lipi had at least warned him she had a sister who might at some point drop in on them, but it was too late for that, too. He hoped she didn't have any other relatives who had such a penchant for causing strife.

"They're fine cubs," he agreed. "And now they've grown up and gone their own ways."

He hoped that would put paid to any further questions Pili might have about their family. He wasn't usually so taciturn when it came to his cubs and his mate, but Muscar didn't sense that Lipi wanted to continue this conversation, and so he was going to keep his replies brief and of the sort which wouldn't invite further discussion.

Lipi growled low in her throat, teeth slowly baring to her sister. She'd gone rigid, her tail still as a bored. Those golden eyes were filled with hatred for her sister. The darker female would never, ever remotely like her sister again. She'd done too many stupid things and played Lipi like a fool. Who wanted that? Who in their right mind would keep accepting someone back that did nothing but lie, and hurt, and steal from her? Everything Lipi ever had, Pili was jealous and just had to have it.

"I think it's best if you left, Pili, or else you'll have bitten off more than you can chew this time around."

Far from put off, the white lioness arched a brow and smirked a bit. Well, she didn't want to fight in front of a male she had her eye on. "Very well, sister. But you'll be seeing me around. I plan to stay in the area for a time," her voice was smooth as she said this, as if she wasn't being threatened. She honestly didn't see her sister as much of a threat.

Stretching herself out, Pili looked to Muscar and winked at him before turning around and started to head the way she came. "You'll see, sister. I'll be the better one in the end!" A threat she always gave Lipi before something big was going to happen.

Princess_Feylin
Muscar watched his mate's sister slink away, unaware of what her words might imply for the calm and sanity of his family and his world. He did not know that there would be difficulties caused by this member of his mate's family.

His relationship with his own sister was not like that, and he had a difficult time believing that the stories Gliri had made up which contained such families. He didn't even know where she had gotten the ideas from. but he couldn't easily accept that Lipi's sister was like the more horrible siblings in his sister's stories.

That didn't matter though, because he was willing to accept his own ignorance in this matter and accept Lipi's experience and prejudices as his own, so as he watched Pili depart he nuzzled Lipi's neck.

"Let's finish our hunt," he suggested.
