Evening couldn't come quick enough for Vana's liking. Once again Asmodeus was pushing them further and further away from the main path and into the deep forest. It was hurting the poor colt's tiny hooves. He had no idea why Asmodeus was so adamant on getting away from the main road. There didn't seem to be any good reason for it. The road was always deserted anyway. It continued to confuse the colt when he would try asking the older stallion as to why. When he did Asmodeus would get increasingly agitated and start muttering to himself. At one point Vana was sure the stallion wanted to hit him. It unnerved him and made Vana want to crawl into a hole and stay there. He didn't like Asmodeus, not one bit.
At the same time Vana had to continue to wonder where his mom was at. He didn't remember her much anymore, if at all. He could remember that she had glowing golden eyes much like his own. However all she did was give him a look of loathing and he wasn't sure as to why either. Sometimes he would hear her muttering to herself late at night during his last day or so in his basket about a stallion that made her feel strange. But Vana was completely sure. All he knew at his point was that he felt dejected and afraid. He wanted to find another that actually liked him for it seemed nobody did.
With a sigh the colt slipped away from the sleeping stallion and into the trees. He hoped that there would be some place he could find some peace before it was time to move again. Luckily he wasn't tired yet so there was at least some time for solitude. As such Vana hopped over some fallen tree limbs and towards somewhere. Where he was go exactly was uncertain. Maybe he could find some sort of watering hole. He liked the water very much.

Ecclesia picked her way through the unfamiliar landscape. She wasn't terribly far from her families herd, but had found herself travelling farther and farther away. With her father caring for her mother and all of her insecurities, it had meant that she had been free to do what she pleased without anyone seeming to bat an eye. Atreus had long ago left, so she didn't see much of her brother anymore, and even her extended family had been less and less a familiar face. Really, life was beginning to grow stagnant and Ecclesia couldn't help but feel more than a little invisible.
It was the story of her young life, actually. Oh, she had a loving family, and a mother that was far too protective for her own good. But now that her father had returned, and her mother's worries had begun to lessen, Ecclesia couldn't help but wonder what sort of life she could have had. Was there really life out there, because quite frankly, she felt as if she was merely going through the motions. Her days were quiet, her fears and uncertainties often kept her from truly embracing life and all it had to offer.
Everyday she thought of changing such a thing, but it was easier said than done. Her mother had raised her with good intentions, but had also raised her daughter with whispers of fear. The world was a cruel place, the world could be dangerous, it was much safer for Ecclesia to remain in familiar lands, to not roam too far, to not do this, to not do that. Yes, Cassiel had raised her daughter to be ever aware of the danger of the world. . . and it meant she lived in mostly isolation.
Picking her way to the edge of a small pond, deep within the woods, the mare knew she would have to soon return. For now though, she would enjoy the evenings quiet. It was a little spooky, but she knew the lands to be (mostly) safe. Lowering her head, the violet coated mare quiet drank, unaware that there were others lurking nearby.
Sunny knew he was in pretty big trouble. It had started off innocently enough, he had taken his brother up on a dare that he wouldn't go in to the woods after the sun set. Hazel had always been a bit bolder, quieter, and a little bit of a handful - he often came up with plots and plans to get them away from their watchful parents gaze and Sunny respected his quick wit and intelligence. But instead of following the leader this night, Sunny had trotted in to the woods all by himself to prove his brother he was just as brave.
Unfortunately though, the little cream coated colt found himself rather turned around. He had thought to get back all he'd have to do was walk in a straight line to get back, but he must have done something wrong, because he really didn't know where he was going. "Hazel? Are you out there anywhere?" His little voice called out, breaking the silence.
Unfortunately for Sunny, there was no answer in return.
Thankfully, the blond colt was hardly much of a worrier. He was confident thanks to his naive and optimistic nature. Everything would turn out well, there was no doubt about that! He must have inherited his grandmother's blind optimism, but in cases where others might have worried, Sunny felt incredibly relaxed.
Step by step, he pushed his way through the underbrush. There was a smell of water in the air, and he hoped this meant he was heading closer and closer to home. "Doot doot doot . . walking walking walking. . . " He sang a quiet little song as he picked his way through the underbrush of the woods.

It took Vana a bit to get over a particular large log, and once he did the poor colt took a bit of a tumble and landed on his stomach. He 'oofed' rather loudly and spooked himself in the process since the sounded echoed a bit, and scrambled up onto his hooves to press himself against the log. His breathing was labored and his eyes were wide as he stared unblinkingly around his surroundings. After a moment and realizing that nobody was actually there, Vana sighed in relief, not really realizing that he was the cause of his own startling.
While he shook himself for a moment after coming away from the log to get the dust out of his coat his ears caught some sort of humming noise not too far away. This had the unfortunate effect of scarring him again, making him scramble further away from where the noise was coming from. Vana had no idea what that humming was but as he listened it actually didn't sound mean. However he still remained suspicious and wary. Be that as it was the sound was coming closer to his location and Vana was at a loss at what to do or how to react. So he did the thing he did best, he hid from sight, which was rather a failure since he stood out starkly against the browns and greens of the leaves and branches of his hiding place.

"Walking, walking, humming, humming, hummmmm-hummmmm. . . " Sunny continued his little song, trying his best to not get terribly spooked or frightened. With every passing moment, he knew he was going to be in bigger trouble with his family. They didn't like it when he wandered at night, and to have gone away without telling anybody where he was going. . .well. . . .yeah.
That wasn't going to bode well. He loved his family, but knew his mother would worry; and when Mom worried, that meant Dad would have to lecture, which was something Sunny knew Azuell preferred not to do. Over all, getting in trouble was never a very pleasant experience. And while he had gotten in trouble with his siblings in the past, he had never actually gotten in trouble on his own.
So he just had to get home soon.
Thankfully though, Sunny wasn't one to dwell on negativity. The thought of getting in trouble wasn't fun, but there wasn't anything he could do about now. All he could do was keep walking and hope his father or brother fetched him. But until then, it wasn't very fun to walk alone, so singing would keep him company. And that was exactly what he did.
"Lalala. . . I'm singing . . .singing. . pretty songs . . . " The blue eyed colt pushed through the foliage, keeping an eye out for water. Water was always a good place to start, after all, as water always meant security and home. He was thirsty anyway, and if he could find a source of water he was pretty sure he would find his family. So what if the pond might not be the same as the lake or the ocean of his mother's territory. . . they were all water, and water was a very good thing indeed.
Giving his blond tail a shake, the black and cream colt almost missed Van completely. It was his strange, glowing eye as well as the pink that stood out first. "Hmm hmm hmmmmmm," he stopped putting in words even as he walked past the trembling colt, turning his head to study the unusual foliage.
He'd never seen plants grow glowing eyes. . . or pink wings. . . or fluffy tails. Wait a minute. "Fluffy tail? You're . .. you're not a plant at all, are you!?" Sunny demanded with a laugh, his eyes going bright. His songw as forgotten and he turned better to face the little colt. They looked to be about the same age, though Vanaheimr was quite unusual. He was all sorts of dark and green and pink, with wings and horns!
"My Dad has horns too, ya know! Though his are big and black and a lot pointier. And I've got horns too but you can't see them anywhere, nope! They're still small but Mom says they'll probably grow in someday." He added proudly, puffing out his chest. He was his father's clone, or so he heard his mother joke now and then. But his father was awesome (at least in Sunny's opinion) so it was a good thing. . . . right?

The trying and failing to hide colt nearly jumped out of his skin when his "hiding spot" had been discovered and the other colt noticed him. He almost had to curse at his lack of ability to actually blend in with the foliage. But then again he had no ability to stop his eyes from glowing. While that worked on scaring off some small animals it did nothing for the larger and more curious and bold ones. Apparently this was one such case and Vana hesitantly came to and moved into plainer view, at least, in his opinion plainer view. Not that it mattered.
He took a moment to study the other colt, apparently the same age as himself. However unlike himself who was dark and able to use the darkness as some sort of cover when needed, this colt was almost completely devoid of dark colors, except the tiny horns just barely noticable behind his ears. At the outbursts of the other Vana spooked again and pushed himself back against the tree trunk. His mother would be ashamed of such a sight he was sure of it.
"Who...who are you?" he replied meekly with just a hint of fear.
He wasn't going to get attacked right? Asmodeus would tell him stories about soquili who would eat others of the same kind. How some would eat them alive while others took pleasure in riping flesh from bone and bathing in blood. This wasn't a trick or game right? Lure him into a trap so he could a good meal? Size didn't matter really to him.

Sunny's little ears pricked forward in both curiosity and concern as the other seemed to stay hidden in the foliage. He sure was a shy stranger, wasn't he . . .? Compared to his siblings, Sunny wasn't entirely sure what to make of shyness. He came from an incredibly outgoing family, and while he wasn't nearly as adventurous as his brother, Hazel, or as intelligent and wily as his sister, Ziggy, he was by no means shy.
Still, Sunny had yet to meet anyone of interest on his great adventure (as opposed to being lost), and to meet someone, anyone, was as good a start as any! Besides, the other looked to be of a similar age. . . maybe that meant they could be friends! He didn't have any friends, so this would be a refreshing change. Obviously they both were colts, and didn't appear to mind being out in the woods. . . oh, oh, and maybe he was lost too!
The excitement seemed to overwhelm Sunny, whose tail began to wag and wave in a bit of a frantic fashion. A bright smile crossed his features as he beamed at the other. "My name's Sunset Sarsparilla," he stumbled through the last half of his name, still a little too young to pronounce it entirely accurately. "But everyone I know just calls me Sunny. Who're you?" Tilting his head, he blinked and added, "You don't have to hide if you don't want. Unless you're playing a game and are hiding cause of that. . . ." Best to make sure he wasn't giving away someones hiding spot after all. That would end the game awfully quick.

Vana watched Sunny's tail started to wiggle so fast as if he had ants on his hindquarters. Despite himself a small giggle bubbled to the surface from his throat at the thought. This colt didn't seem to be out to eat him and it also seemed like he was lost like himself. How ironic. Coming a bit more out of the shadows the light from above hit Vana's features in full, his light pinkish purple wings fluttered quietly at his sides. Tilting his head to the side curiously with his ears pricked forward Vana's eyes scanned Sunny once more quickly before finally responding in kind, voice soft, just above a whisper.
"Asmodeus says my mother called me Vanaheimr."
His ears pinned back after speaking as if guiltily. Asmodeus would be livid if he ever found out that he had snuck away and met other soquili. He really didn't want to think of the consequences for that either. A small shudder made its way through his body at the thought. Vana didn't want to go back there. But what choice did he have? He had nowhere else to go and from what he'd been told from Asmodeus nobody else would accept him because of his heritage.
