Okay, so I had this idea. What if all the various universes in which roleplays take place were actually part of a multiverse? And what if you could pull your roleplay characters from their world to ours? What if a business had perfected the technology to do that, and started beta testing the concept?

The gist of the roleplay would be that each player would have two characters, one based on a person from this world, and another that was a character from a roleplay. The normal person would have seen an online advertisement promising to "Bring Your Character To Life", filled out a form (which is actually the character profile), and maybe thought they'd ordered a figurine, character portrait, and/or an illustrated and bound story about their character. When the character shows up, s/he has two all-access passes to a convention, along with a letter stating that you're now legally obligated to attend, and that your room and board will be paid in full. At the convention, they'd be told not to say a word about anything, until it's time for the company's panel. At which point things get...interesting.

I was thinking about six players in all, which would give us twelve characters, which is about the maximum I'd be comfortable with in one thread.

Questions, Comments, and Criticism is Welcome.

I have the Character Profile (more or less) done. I might fiddle around with it some more, but then again, I might not.

Still on the phone so I apologize for the brief message.
How much did they have to pay for this?
Or was it like a contest for the startup of the company?
Just a thought...

Good question.

What I had in mind was an existing company in the roleplaying market. Perhaps they produce MMO's as well as tabletop games. This would then be an extension of that. A real-world roleplay, as it were.

I like the idea of the real-world characters being contest winners. It ties in nicely with my idea of having the panel be the unveiling of the new branch of the company. Not to mention it sidesteps the issue I had with how much to charge for a whole frikkin person. I mean, BJDs can go for thousands, and they're only dolls. Awesomely well-crafted dolls, but still not alive.

Yes, that is what I was thinking as well.
Who the hell would have that kind of money?
Answer: super rich people that aren't authors. ie- Bill Gates, etc.
lol So I was thinking that the company, anxious for a really super launch, did the contest to try to get the widest array of idea to pick from so that they could pick the best and really show off the product.
And I have to say, I realize that this is just another RP but I'm definitely considering doing the author as myself, true to form.
And picking one of my existing characters.
Obviously that would just be the premise but from there I could work with 'characters' that I know well.
I think that will be wonderful because with the real world character based on myself, I can really stress the mundane and true to life bits that I might be tempted to glamourize somewhat if it was a character of my creation.
And then I can easily put my mind in the fantastical setting of getting to meet one of my own characters.
What I would think of that, How I would react, Was it actually someone that I would be comfortable having in the real world, what would they think of me, what would they think of being out of their book and in a new world.
Anyway, just some of my own thoughts/praise/excitement.
If this isn't what you are looking for, just let me know.
I'd still be willing to participate if you would rather that I made all orginal characters.

Actually, I think that's an awesome idea. I definitely intended for people to choose roleplay characters they're familiar with, and I don't have a problem with strongly basing the mundane character on the player; it would definitely lend realism. I'd be careful, though. Obviously, you don't want to reveal too much of your personal info online and all that.

Oh, and this is going to be an adventure roleplay, and also, with luck, a bit of comedy where we can poke fun at Roleplaying cliches and tropes.

Yes, from your description, I see this as a great opportunity for humorous writing.
I'm pretty sure I already know which character I would select too.
'twold be hilarious.
So, this all takes place on our planet? In a 'real world' setting?

I'd be interested so long as you didn't have to base the real world person on yourself; I never like playing an author avatar. But it seems that would be okay.

In reality, I don't have time to commit to another game right now, but I'm letting you know that this is an awesome and fun idea.

=O I'm hooked. If there's still room. XP But I think it's a really good idea, having one of our own rp characters, and us as ourselves, maybe with a few modifications here and there (for privacy purposes, of course). Would the second characters be life-sized dolls, or actual living, breathing replicas of the character? That's what I'm a bit confused about.

You wouldn't have to base the real world person on you, but the option would be open.

Living, breathing people.

In addition, to keep things simple, the beginning would probably be at the convention. Just so that everybody is more or less in the same place.

Actually, I find this an interesting opportunity to meet the characters that may have changed us by writing. Sometimes you have once in a lifetime roleplays that let you uncover a little about yourself along with the story, and you become a better person for it. I have one such character, and I know if I ever met him it would be a moment to remember.

But that's the ravings of a completely and utterly bonkers nerd. Just sayin.

I think we have a winner!
I've been watching in the winds as you all discuss this, and I'd really like to see this get a thread started soon.
I put together a game like this once but never put it through it's paces; glad to see a similar idea garning such a response... Keep it up, cause this one's gotta' start. ^^
