The call from Jada had surprised her - it certainly had been forever since she'd heard from the black-haired girl, through this was probably just as much of her own fault, and not more so, than Jada's. She's definitively been wrapped up in others things, lately...
But poor Jada sounded so lonely. She knew that feeling, felt it in the nights where she wasn't Fluorite, and when she noticed just how disconnected from those she had once called friends she was.
All of that, all the teenage drama, all the shopping and makeup and gossip... Seemed so meaningless now. But Jada had always been better than those girls. Jada was one she found she didn't mind reconnecting with.
And so she had met up with the older girl and was now just about to reveal her most guarded secret to her. The ace up her sleeve, so to speak.
The boutique was small, a little hole in the wall-ish - definitively not the kind of places Jada had once been used to, for sure. "One of my mother's friend owns this place, she makes most of the clothes." She said with a grin. "I can get you on my discount !"
Music to Jada's ears ? Well, she hoped. She didn't have all the details, but it was obvious enough that the girl was in a rough spot.

The list of friends in her cell phone was dwindling little by little. Jada had drawn one heck of a short stick when her location die had been cast. Destiny City sucked. But it was home, regardless of the fact that another one bit the dust almost daily. It was the only home she'd ever known. And she'd get out, someday. Tonight was an afternoon that was, surprisingly, free. She was only taking classes on Mondays and Wednesdays this semester, to try and open up a little free space in her schedule to do something like breathe, and today the office had closed early since a bird had come smashing through the skylight in the office and it needed to be fixed.
Youma were incredibly difficult to destroy when you had to catch them while they were divebombing your coworkers.
She had a scratch on her face and looked like she'd been attacked by a cat, but she was feeling oddly victorious when she decided to call Ashley. The younger girl was a friend. Not particularly close, but she had always been excellent company. Plus, she was one of the few people remaining in Jada's life that she felt she could have a little fun with- Ashley was a pretty good dancer, didn't mind it when Jada decided she needed a drink, and the one time they'd done karaoke? Awesome.
She'd invited Ashley to meet her at her tacky apartment before they zoomed off, wanting to show off some of the stuff she'd gotten from her part time job modeling for Fizz Fashions. Cheap and cute. The kitchen still had a burn up the wall from where Jada had set her microwave on fire, and Castor had decided maybe five minutes before Ashley got there to rebel and destroy one of the nice pillows that she'd gotten at Pier Uno. When the girl had gotten there Jada was uncharacteristically frazzled, running back to her kitchen and pulling a lump of plastic out of her oven that had been supposed to be a microwave dinner... but she had no microwave... and now she had no lunch. She plopped it down on the counter, grabbing her purse. "Can we grab something to eat while we're out?"
It hadn't taken them long to get to the place Ashley had in mind, and when the word 'discount' had been mentioned, Jada had almost smooched her. For reals. "I have to see."
She scooted in the door to the boutique, looking eagerly around at the clothes. "These are so cute."

The thorn cushion had simply been a source of amusement for the purple haired girl. After all, Ashley had an huge golden retriever, big, friendly and rather... well, stupid, Elton basically wrecked stuff simply by existing, and she could relate on that front.
The Fizz Fashion things were certainly lovely - and Ashley was now convinced she needed to drop over there herself, sometime. That was the upside of having a job - she certainly had more money to spend, though she was saving most of it, stockpiling it for the future.
Even if she wasn't quite certain what the future would be quite yet - if it involved more schooling or not. Either way, she would need it to move out. That one was a given.
The burn on the wall got an eyebrow rise, and by the time the lump of plastic happened Ashley had made up her mind - she was going to stage an intervertion.
Jada Chamberlyn was going to learn how to cook. And fast. Well, if Ashley had any say in it, anyway. They simply stopped by the tiny café on their way to the boutique.
"Arn't they ? She's very talented." Ashley said, smiling. "Im still trying to get her to move into a better location... Most people just overlook this place, and it's a shame..."
For the moment, a top seemed to have caught her eye - a little frilly, which she wasn't usually into, but the color was gorgeous - a deep, wine red.

She moved reverently through the clothes, eying materials. A shimmering top caught her eye, simple and off one shoulder, almost tunic length. She didn't need it. She didn't have any place to wear it. Oh, how she wanted it. She tugged it up to her, admiring the color against her skin, then put it back, almost skipping down the wall in her joy. "Ugh, how I wish I could help her move to someplace just a little more accessible! Just look at- oh, Ashley, this skirt." She could wear it to work, on a date, anywhere. It was classic and colorful, and would cling to her hips so nicely! And it flared out at the knee so neatly!
It didn't take her long at all to have a small mental list of things she just wanted. If only she had the funds to accommodate herself! At full prices she miiight be able to get two pieces, or that one really cute print dress. "Now what did you say the designer's name was?" she asked, running her hand over a chiffon scarf. "I mean, Ashley, this top," she pulled the shimmering top off the rack, "Tucked in, with a big belt to accentuate the waist, and a pencil skirt? And heels. Tall heels. Strappy heels. Perfect date top."
Another skirt was pulled out, and she waved it. "And this? Is frilled but not fluffy. Try it on!"

Jada looked like a child in a candy store, and that made her happy - her guess as to what the dark-haired girl would enjoy wasn't offbase at all, it seemed.
Always a good thing.
"Amelia Emiran." She said, eying the top Jada had reluctantly put back. It was lovely, really, but that color and her skin tone... Yeah, probably not so much. "Yeah, that top is cute... Not really my style, through."
As much as Ashley had a style, really.
"Hmmm..." She took the skirt carefully, pondering. It was a nice brown, and brown was a color she'd always liked... "Yeah, i'll try it."

If she looked like a child in the candy store, it was because she was. In nineteen years, Jada had never really understood just how much work she had to do to afford all of her gorgeous, insanely expensive clothes. Now, she knew. Intimately. She made $400.00 a week on average, before taxes. Minus rent, and food, and cat food, and vet fees, and the doctor visits, and transportation, and keeping the electric on... Yes, the occasional modeling fee could be added in, but overall? She would make in a year less than what her father had paid for her 'allowance' in a four-month span. And have to give it out for serious stuff. Clothes, especially cheap clothes, were a luxury in her darkest hours. Of which this whole week had most certainly been one. So she enjoyed herself, sinking into fabric, and styles, and sexy tops and nice skirts and oh- ohh, her one true love. Shoes. They might not have been the designers shoes, but there was a pair of shoes she would murder for, a pair of gold Alexander McQueens that made her actually give a whimper and pull out her cellphone, snapping a picture for later. She would have these shoes someday. "Amelia. Got it." She dragged her attention back to the clothing, pursing her lips. "So, umm... Ashley? Hoooney? Buuuuddy? How much was this discount you said you might be able to finagle me?"

Where Jada once had been able to afford designer clothing like if it was dolar store candy, Ashley had learned early on not to go too crazy, her prom dress having been her father-imposed exception. Her parents weren't rich, but they weren't poor either.
But really, having her own money to spend was nice.
The whimper from Jada caught Ashley's attention from a silver, shimmery top she'd been contemplating - add some good old black pants and it would have ended up into an classy outfit that in no way looked as cheap as if actually had been. Oh, shoes. Ashley looked slightly amused - she wasn't actually a shoe person, well, not anywhere as close as Jada seemed to be. Who looked at your feet when they looked at you, anyway ?
"I get 50% off the marked price." She said, a little lower so that no one would overhear and try to mooch. It had happened before, and she wasn't sure if she could resist the urge to power up and dropkick any cunts that tried that today.
Ashley was a little overworked lately.
"So even if it's marked down for discount, I get half off the discounted prize." The message was clear - raid, my friend.

Ashley was the recipient of an armful of Jada as the concept of 50% off of sale price made it through the young woman's brain. And then the 19-year old was gone, checking the price of almost every single pair of shoes in the building.
And that purple top? Hers. And that sexy chain belt? Hers. And those pants? Hers. And that little black dress? So hers.
And her paycheck? A goner.
"Ashley, you are my new bestie." she decided. "You know how to shop, and you know how to party, and you- you have great connections." She would remember this, when she had her own money again. She would remember this day, and she would make sure Ashley never regretted giving her the ability to buy those Alexander McQueens.
She would really have to pick up some more hours. Or a better-paying job.

Ashley didn't seem to mind the armful of Jada in the least - arms closing around the older girl briefly in an hug before she let go.
Jada had some hunting to do, after all. So was Ashley - carrying the silvery top she'd been eying seconds before and giving a pondering look to a long, flowy black skirt.
Or you know, the top would look amazing with that, too...
"Connections are everything." She winked. "But really, im no where as amazing as you say." Her tone was light, amused, through.
Perhaps Jada's sheer love of clothes was doing the talking right now ?

It was nice to have a hug. How long had it been, since she'd gotten a hug from Audrey, or Elke, or felt Fallon's arms around her ever-so-gingerly, uncomfortable. Three months since she had felt her sister's hugs, since... an even those friends she had left after graduation and her argument with her parents... No, it was downright wonderful to have another set of arms around her, and she relished it for more than just the fact that Ashley was the cause of a wonderful shopping spree.
However long they were in the store, she really couldn't say for sure. Clothes. Clothes, more clothes, until she had accumulated an estimated tab, after sale, of a little under the amount of her last paycheck. She wouldn't say anything about it- and she had shopped wisely indeed.
"I miss connections." she said wistfully, running her hand over a little red dress that would look amazing against her skin. "I miss people. I miss having time to be sociable, having time to shop, having time to sit down and breathe. Two jobs and school? Sometimes I wonder that I haven't forgotten my own name. But one name I'll never forget?"
She twirled, lifting the dress to her chest, swaying side to side. "Herve Leger. That is who this dress reminds me of."

Ashley definitively never minded. She was a sociable, happy girl at her core, even if that core had been shaken and cracked a bit by three shots of chaos right into the starseed. She liked people. She liked being with them, touching them - it was alone that she felt lost.
"I still don't know what I'll do, when I graduate... I mean, I kind of have to go for higher education..." She certainly didn't want to be a waitress all her life, however short it might end up being. "But I dunno what... I like cooking..."
She could be a chef, maybe. Work in one of the restaurants. There were so many restaurants in town. "You think i'd make a good chef ?" She voiced out loud, curling a strand of purple hair around her finger nervously.
That shade of red would have indeed looked amazing on Jada - not so much on Ashley, really. Her skin tone was too dark for that kind of red. At the mention of the name, Ashley couldn't help her chuckle. "I never really gave much attention to designers, really. I just buy what I like and what looks good on me."

"It... has been rough." Jada admitted, twirling in front of a mirror, holding a deep blue and silver mini-dress against her. "I wasn't exactly ready for graduation, what with... well, everything. You know the story by now." Just not all of it. "DCU has pretty much a little of everything, so it would be a good place to go until you figure out what you want to do. You graduate at the end of this year, right?"
The heiress lowered the blue dress and lifted a forest green one to her chest, pursing her lips contemplatively. She was shooting through clothes, glaring over price tags and pondering. "A chef?" Actually, that would be a good idea. "I'd eat at your place for sure." Ashley was a really, really good cook, come to think of it. "Oh, definitely. Especially if you bake." Good cooking also could mean... "So, wanna give me some cooking lessons? I set my microwave on fire, and haven't successfully made anything in my oven yet."
It was casual.
"I'm going to marry a fashion designer." she told Ashley dreamily. "Or a photographer. One can satisfy my craving to have gorgeous clothes, the other can sate my narcissism." Down went the green dress, up came a gold halter top.

"Yeah..." She'd heard the story, and saw no need to repeat it. Really, the whole thing seemed so messed up, and she hoped that by listening, she'd made Jada feel better, even if she couldn't help in any other way than that. "Yeah, I do. Well, if I keep my grades up I will. Im doing okay so far but math is really hard..." While Jada was eying dresses, Ashley was eyeing a cute little button-up blouse. White. White looked good on everyone, a blessing, that.
"It seemed so far away last year, and now suddenly it's actually happening and... it's kind of scary ?" She admited, lips pursing in a pout. "Matty say it's normal but..."
"I can't bake worth a crap, actually. I wish I could. My mom is an amazing baker." She sighed. "I just can't stick to a recipe worth a crap. With main dishes it's okay, but with baking, well... It's a much more precise science... and in my case it ends in disaster."
The teen grinned then, amused. "As long as you supply the fire extinguisher. I'll make a cook out of you." Bold words. Bold words indeed.
"I dunno. It kind of feels weird to think I might marry someone one day. Im seventeen !" Yeah, she really wasn't at this stage yet.

In the end, Jada was scooting out the door with a goldmine in tops, dresses, a pair of the tightest pants she'd ever successfully tried to squeeze into and those sexylicious McQueens. "I was more of a literature girl, myself, but I did graduate with very good grades, if you need help." She'd never gotten a B, until college.
"The actual act of Graduating isn't that bad." Not that she had attended hers. "It is kind of scary, being out in the big bad world and all, but it fades away surprisingly quickly." it had helped that she hadn't needed to get a job. Or look for an apartment. Jada had stepped out of high school and into her carefully preplanned life, and proceeded to decimate it.
"Cooking is overrated. I will, one day, be able to hire amazing people like you, and Fallon and Xanis and... other people... to do my cooking for me. In the meantime, however, it would be nice if I could make instant noodles without destroying the microwave."
Her arms wrapped around the shorter girl in a hug, clingy and adoring. "You're still a baybee." she teased Ashley. "I've had mother planning my wedding since I was fifteen."

"Well, english is kicking my a**, so..." Ashley followed with her own bags in tow. Jada's enthusiasm had been contagious - she miiight have gone a little overboard, herself.
Whoops.
"It might work out ?" Well, Ashley had never been the best in school, really, but english was the only thing she was truly scared she might end up failing - and she certainly didn't have time to fail english !
Seesh.
Really, Jada's way of thinking was... well, perhaps fitting for a girl who had grown up in luxury, but not something Ashley could truly wrap her head around. Hire people to cook for you ? Why would anyone even want to do that ?
Uh.
"If you say so, through wouldn't you want to know how to do it just in case they got sick, at least ?"
"Hey ! Im not a baby !" Came the pout which, along with her height, probably had the opposite effect than Ashley had wanted, her free arm wrapping around Jada's waist in turn. "Your mother is crazy. My mother will probably cry the day I show up with a ring on my finger."
