Saagar’Tarang had finally become a Whisperer, a rank towards which he’d always felt a strong affinity. He had also found a few good friends amongst the jungle creatures - his little brothers and sisters as he called them – but he had yet to find a more permanent companion amongst them. Even so, he managed to find many creatures that were willing to talk to him and one bird in particular told Sata she’s seen a little lion lost deep in the jungle. She didn’t want to help him find the cub but the bird was nice enough to give him a general direction follow. Pretty soon, the blue lion was headed to an area of very dense foliage and was tracking what he believed to be the cub’s tracks. He moved silently in the shadows, careful steps merging with the ground and barely leaving a trace.

User ImageAlunta could easily see why her father was bringing her here. There was so much to see. The little cub had never seen trees or plants like this. She was used to the wide open of the place she was born, your typical looking African scenery. The tall grass, scattering of trees, and herds of zebra keeping watch on the small family of blue lions. They didn't exactly blend in well with the dried grass around them.

But here...The tall trees made many shadows on the ground about her paws. Alunta had enjoyed a good 15 minutes of looking at said shadows and trying to place the plant or creature they belonged to with the shade. Until she realized this game would be more fun with someone else. Which was about the time she'd realized Kavuk wasn't with her. For a moment, she panicked, turning in wide circles.

"Daddy?" she asked the area. No answer. A little bit louder. "Daddy!" Still nothing. How far had she gotten from the adult male and how had she slipped from his sights so easily? The thought that Kavuk had left her never once encountered the young one's mind.

And as young ones will be, the whole matter was quickly shut from her mind. A sound had come from her left. Curious, Alunta turned towards it and trotted through a bush without a second's thought. The world was her playground. Too much so for her to worry about lost parents.

Sata was very close to believing the little bird had been playing a trick on him to make the lion follow some old tracks when he heard the little cub calling. He knew that not all creatures of the jungle could be considered safe when it came to young cubs so the Whisperer ran towards the sound and only stopped when he finally caught sight of a blue girl.

“What are doing so far away from the Home Tree, little sister?” he sighed, relieved to find the young cub unharmed. He had never seen her before so he watched her curiously, his bright blue eyes lingering on her wing markings. He couldn’t recall any adults with similar markings which was certainly odd but her coloring was perfectly suited for the Iknimaya so Sata barely considered the possibility that she wasn’t part of the pride. It was highly unlikely that a cub this age had managed to get this far into the jungle on her own without being attacked by a predator or found by the warriors.

The sound she had been chasing disappeared. One minute, it was there. Calling to her, beckoning her to come towards it like the irresistible formation of rocks fit for a cub's playground. Alunta sat down, curling her tail around her, not sure in what direction to go next. She was a little disappointed. That sound had seemed promising. Now she'd never know what it was!

But wait! There was another sound behind her! And getting closer! Quickly getting up, she backed away into a bush so that only her head stuck out, the dark purple eyes blinking in suspicion. At the relief of it only being another lion-he was even blue like her!-she willingly came out of her fort of leaves.

"The what now?" she asked, cocking her head to one side and scrunching up her nose in utter confusion. Was the stranger's weird way of saying 'father' or 'parents'?

“The Home…” Sata almost repeated himself wondering if the girl had perhaps misheard or misunderstood his words but he quickly realized that no cub from the pride would fail to recognize the name of the giant tree where they slept every night. It was strange that he wouldn’t know one of the pride’s cubs but perhaps if she’d been a new arrival… but he was starting to doubt it. It was far more likely that he had strayed into the jungle and gotten separated from her escort.

“These lands are the home of the Iknimaya pride, little one. You are not from around here, are you?” The Whisperer looked around as if searching for something but his eyes quickly returned to the cub. She looked clever and bright and Sata couldn't help but smile at her. “Where are your parents, little sister?”

So he meant his home? Or was The Home supposed to be something more vast than that? Than even her little cub mind could wrap her little paw around comprehending the meaning of? Alunta decided she wasn't going to ask. He was confusing her enough as is.

"Uh? she once again returned. She couldn't even say that word! But before she could give the male a chance to respond, her little purple eyes lite up and she bounded around in excitement for a little bit. Though she was lost, she knew about these lands. At least, what her father could tell her about them. A pride of mostly blue lions for them to blend into.

Standing still, the cub with the wing pattern looked up at the adult lion with a huge smile on her face and shook her head. "We were headed here! My daddy and I. I'm not sure where he is, though." At that, her smile faded and her ears turned downwards, the full weight of her situation finally reaching her small shoulders. "I got lost."

“Ah, that explains it.” Sata said with a smile before giving the cub a quick wink. She was rather adorable, wasn’t she? “In that case, you can call me brother Sata from now on. Welcome home, little sister. I’m sure you will like it here.” It was probably a good idea that he didn’t give her his full name.

He paused, eyeing his surroundings as if hoping the little girl’s father would suddenly pop out from the dense foliage.

“Now to fix the problem of your missing father…” he cleared his throat and let out a series of soft calls that sounded more like a bird’s than a lion’s. A few small birds fluttered to the nearby branches and Sata was rather relieved that while he still hadn’t managed to convince any of them to follow him, some of his feathered friends were willing to come when he called. After exchanging a few words with the avians, he turned to face the little blue cub again. “They’ll help us find your father. What does he look like?”

"Why? Are we related?" Alunta asked with all the innocence of a youngster. Kavuk had failed to share with his daughter any customs she should be aware of. It was likely he, himself, wasn't aware of any special customs. So the little cub could do nothing but wonder if she had family stationed within the pride. It would explain more to her why they were making their way towards it for days. Was it really the only place to find the blue lions to hide them?

Besides, if they were anything like this guy, they wouldn't be hiding very well at all. She still stood out like a sore thumb. His blue wasn't quite the same as hers. Prettier, actually, with the bits of white pattern splitting it up. Though he didn't have wings. If Alunta was proud of any part of her, it was the wing design on her back.

The blue cub cocked her head to one side when Brother Sata started to whistle. Or if not whistle, he sure uttered some strange sounds! She didn't know lions were capable of sounding like birds. Her tail swished back and forth, moving the dirt behind her to the sides.

"He....Looks like me. But dark where my fur is light. And with four light legs instead of my two." At this she raised a little on her hind legs to bat her front paws at him to emphasize her point before losing her balance. She landed in a sitting position, straightening her hind legs underneath her more comfortably. "And markings under his eyes. Right here." A paw was raised to her face, stretching the skin downwards from her own eyes.

“We are, in a way. Those of us that live under caring eye of the Goddess Eywa are a family.” Sata said with a gentle smile, lowering his head to meet her gaze. “From this day on, you can count on me and every other member of this pride as if we were related by blood.”

He listened carefully to the cub’s description of her father and was glad that he seemed to be blue as well. It would be a shame if the little girl hadn’t been able to join because of a little thing like that. He then looked back at the birds. “A dark blue lion with wing markings like hers. Can you help us find him?”

A few birds flew off diligently to carry out the mission while a good number stayed behind petulantly, watching the lions below with a sparkle in their eyes until they grew bored and flew away as well. Sata laughed quietly as this small group that resisted his charms, silently vowing to try even harder to gain their trust. “Don’t worry, little sister. We’ll find your father in no time. Follow me, I’ll lead you to the pride.”

User Image“Alunta, Alunta!” called the large blue male had his former mate come and snatched her while she wandered off? How could he have been so careless? No that, there was so much to see she’d more likely wandered off to look while his back had been turned for only a moment “Alunta Daughter! Where have you gone!” the large blue male followed any sign he could of where she might have gone, the forest was so thick, and Alunta still light as she was left very small tracks.

“Alunta!” Kavuk continued calling not caring too much of what else he might attract with his calls. A small set of paw prints turned up beneath his own Prints finally and they belonged to his daughter! He looks at the ground relived and started off as fast as he could. He had to find his daughter before something bad happened to her.

The blue male raced down the trail after the scent of his child. Navy eyes keeping watch on the path as he ran avoiding branches and other obstacles in his way. He stumbled once or twice but kept going regardless his parental instincts in overdrive. A forest so large there was no telling what could have happened to her.

Kavuk slowed as he sensed another male, perhaps it was from the pride that lived here? Only his child would be that lucky "Alunta'itetsyìp." Kavuk said sternly calling her full name; she was such a curious child always getting into trouble. He emerged from the thick brush behind his daughter. "There you are," he said softer relief evident on his face. “Who’s your new friend daughter?” he asked indicating the male "You are of the Iknimaya Pride?" he asked

The little cub's tail flicked back and forth as she listened, ears gone forwards at full attention. Though they had aimed for this pride from the start of their journey, nothing had been known about what to expect. At least nothing was told to Alunta about what to expect. All she knew was it was a pride mostly consisting of blue lions. That concept alone greatly interested her. What she was hearing about the close knit atmosphere of the place interested her, more. The life of a rogue was all she knew. While the freedom was nice, she enjoyed the close structure of a family more. Learning she was gaining a pridefull of new brothers and sisters was very appealing to the cub's ears.

The tail curled back around her hind legs as she watched the birds disappear into the sky, her dark eyes watching the ones that remained.

"I have a whole bunch of siblings, now?" she asked, the excitement quite clear in her voice and by the broad smile on her face.

It was short-lived as they were joined by a much more familiar male lion. Alunta's ears went back almost instantly in shame, her head drooping a little at the stern voice of her father.

"I'm sorry," she apologized quickly. "Staying still is hard with new things to see." Inching a little closer to her father on her butt, she glanced at the pride male with an almost apologetic look in her eyes. "I....Uh. Never got his name."

“You do.” Sata answered the cub with a smile and chuckled at her obvious excitement.

He realized they would have company even before he heard, saw or caught the scent of the dark-eyed male for all the birds in the canopy suddenly exploded with cries of warning, fear and excitement. And when he saw the other lion for the first time, he almost sighed with relief as he finally confirmed that both members of the little family had perfect coloring. It would’ve been complicated if the cub’s father had large markings of warm colors and Sata was happy to see that it wasn’t the case.

“Hello, friend. Or… as it is our custom greeting: I see you, brother.” Sata said pleasantly with a curt nod. “My name is Saagar’Tarang and yes, I am part of the Iknimaya pride. You have come to join us, am I correct? Are there more of you?”

Kavuk stepped toward his daughter, "Remember as I've told you, you are not big enough quite yet for such a grand adventure." he teased the little one fondly. Kavuk gave his daughter a nuzzle before rubbing her head with his paw playfully. The turning his attention back to the other male and listened.

The blue male took note of the greeting it was unusual from what he'd heard before and it seemed very much a family greeting. Kavuk returned the greeting a bit stiffly, it would take a bit of getting used to, there would be so much to learn if they were welcomed into the pride. "We have Saagnar'Tarang," Kavuk confirmed we'd be honored to be accepted into the Iknimya pride if you'd have us." Kavuk shook his head at the mention of others "It's just us," he looked at the male with a hint of sadness.

"I apologize for the lack of introductions." the blue male shifted and stepped forward beside his daughter " I am Kavuk, and you've already met my daughter Alunta, I thank you for keeping her out of more trouble." he eyed his daughter fondly, she'd always been an adventurous one, most of the time it gave him a heart attack if she wasn't his his vision, after all she was her mother's favorite, but she was still his despite the argument he had with her mother. He had to protect her.

Looking back and forth between the two males as they spoke, Alunta's ears moved themselves forward, again, focused on the new male once more. The thought of customs intrigued her. One might think, with her adventurous streak, it would worry her. But adventure wasn't just in the physical. It was also in what you learned. The cub had always had an interest in learning about the prides near her and the other species that shared her world. She didn't always remember what she was told, but she listened and asked questions just the same.

Through her thoughts, the voice of her father broke through. Curling her tail closer to her body, she gave him a meek nod with a slightly saddened face to show she was sorry. It wasn't always on purpose. Her getting lost. It was just so difficult to sit still all the time. Such as if she woke up before him and didn't want to lay there to wait for him to get up. More times as not, she would wander around a bit.

Like now. Her concentration on being sad wasn't lasting very long. Pretty soon, she was looking back at Sata with curious and hopeful eyes.

"Are there many customs? What are they? Is everyone blue? Can everyone talk to birds?" Taking a deep breath, crossing her eyes, Alunta stopped, flicking the tip of her tail eagerly.

“Well met brother and welcome. Feel free to call me Sata. Most do.” Sata’s eyes dropped to the little cub. “It was no trouble. One of our warriors was bound to find her but the forest hides many dangers so it was a good thing she wasn't alone for too long. So no more running off on your own, alright?” Oh, the irony. It was good thing Sata was on his otherwise someone would certainly have snorted at his friendly warning as most pride members were aware of this particular heir’s tendency to disappear into the forest as a youth.

“Yes, there are many customs but you’ll learn them quickly, don’t worry. And most of us are blue or other cool colors in general. But there are a few exceptions.” At her last question though, Sata let out a heartily chuckle. “Anyone can talk to birds, little sister. The question is… will they listen?” He paused for a moment, smiling. Then he continued, taking a few steps forward. ”But it’s my job to know what they’re saying so I speak with them more than most, I suppose. Follow me, I’ll take you to your new home.”
