After her last encounter with Poa Subiani, Kalanu Kalisetsi was feeling much more curious about the Shadow Clan and, after some vague ramblings from Poa about them, his family. In particular, she had convinced herself she needed to find his sisters-- something Sesere had pointedly refused to take part in. She hadn't been very keen on dealing with the Shadow Clan at all, actually. Kalanu had noticed but she ignored it. Sesere was antisocial and probably wouldn't have cared much for the Mantis Clan without Kalanu.
However, she had no idea how to actually find one specific other clan. She was sure the Shadow Clan wouldn't always be where she had found Poa before, the pride moved around a lot in general.. but she headed there first and then off in the direction he had been called for last time, hoping they were still around.
She wasn't sure who she would run into and while she wanted to find someone who wasn't Poa, she still wanted to talk to him, too.. just not yet!

Thankfully, Kalanu would be in luck!
Close by, another lioness lurked; her pale grey fur and small stature often earning her the affectionate nickname of 'mouse' by her father. She was by no means as quiet as a mouse though and, as she romped through the tall grass, it was certain that she would be heard by any who passed close by. The whole 'being noisy' thing had never really been an issue for Laka, however, since she generally liked to attract attention and make friends. She was a social butterfly and was happiest when she was with others.
The only downside was that the other clan members often groaned in dismay when she accompanied them on hunts. She was a sweet-hearted thing, but chatting whilst you were trying to creep up on prey was bound to cause problems. At least she never seemed to bear no ill will towards those who scolded her for her downfalls and she did try to improve.
Was it her fault that she had so many wonderful things to say and talk about?
Today she was out scouring the lands for this 'Kalanu' that her brother had mentioned briefly a couple of days ago. Apparently this stranger from another clan had talked her brother into some sort of guard duty near the mountains. And, if that was the case, then she was bound to be a lot of fun! Making new, adventure-loving friends, was always a good thing in Laka's mind.

Kalanu was distracted muttering to herself about how Sesere would have been useful to have around in helping to find someone- in fact it was an old favorite way to cheat at hide and seek and why none of her siblings would play with her after she had found Sesere until she realized it wasn't worth cheating if nobody would play.
It took her a minute to realize there was someone nearby, and she stopped to look around- almost missing Laka, despite how she stood out against the grass. Of course, she had no idea who she was looking at and she was having a hard time getting a good look with so much movement going on.
"H-hey!" she called out.

Ears twitched and a second later, the pale female drew to a halt and turned her head in the direction of the voice. Ah! A new face! Possibly not the 'face' she was looking for, but a potential friend if she'd ever seen one.
With a wide smile, she bounded in the direction of the dark-pelted female, slowing to a halt as they got within easy speaking distance. "Hey there!" She pulled up short and peered curiously across at the other female. "Sorry! I almost missed you back there! I was tracking and got a bit distracted..." She trailed sheepishly before taking another short step forwards.
"I'm seeking an adventurer." She added as if it was a normal thing to be searching for. "I'm Laka Subiani, first-class adventurer of Shadow Clan, at your service!" She beamed.

Giggling, Kalanu watched as Laka practically bounced over to her. She didn't need to see or hear anything else to know she already really liked this lioness.
"That's OK!" she squeaked as Laka trailed off, managing not to be cut off by Laka's explanation of her quest and her introduction-- and then Kalanu nearly jumped up and down excitedly.
"Oh oh! You're Laka!!" Though she was rather loud, she managed to calm down enough to stay on all four feet at the same time, her tail still waving behind her excitedly.
"You're Poa's sister," she said, beaming as she continued to introduce herself, "I'm Kalanu Kalisetsi from the Mantis Clan."

Her eyes widened in surprise. "Oh! So you're Kalanu! This is great! Just the girl I was looking for."
She bounded forwards and then dropped into a sitting position, her eyes and ears alert. "I'm Poa's sister, yep! And I've heard a lot about you!" Okay, so not a lot. In fact, hardly anything at all, but enough to know that Laka had wanted Kalanu as a friend. She giggled, pressing a paw briefly to her nose in an attempt to calm her excitement so as to continue speaking.
"I've never met anyone from Mantis Clan before." She continued. "Is it far from here? Are there lots of members?" She cast her eyes briefly over those incredibly bright tattoos on Kalanu's pelt. They were so vibrant that it was hard not to be distracted by the swirl of intricate patterns. She'd been told that, from a distance, her tattoos faded into her pelt, but you certainly wouldn't say that of this dark one's marks. "I should take a trip someday! But never mind that. You're Poa's friend and that means you must be something pretty special. That's quite an achievement! I'm very impressed. You'll have to tell me how you did it. When I try to get him to drop the work to relax or play he just gets grumpy and tells me to 'go and bother someone else'." She seemed to be quoting him directly.

"Really?" she asked, surprised to hear that Laka had been looking for her- even more so when the explanation was offered that she ha heard a lot about her. She wasn't sure Poa really liked her enough to bother talking about her, but the idea made her smile. Maybe they were really friends and it wasn't just her trying to tell him they were.
"Uh, I guess!" she said, slowly catching back up to the energy she had before Laka surprised her by knowing who she was- but it was hard when it meant cutting in and out of the chatty conversation they were obviously about to have, "My family is the biggest in the clan, I'd say we make up half of it at least."
Kalanu shifted her weight from paw to paw, she definitely already liked Laka.
"Maybe he has a harder time saying no to a stranger," she giggled, "My brothers are definitely nicer to other lions than they are to me sometimes. I didn't really give Poa a choice the first time we met."
She beamed.

"Uh huh! Really really." She threw her new-found friend an earnest smile, drawing forward both ears to listen to the other female's response to her questions. She looooved asking questions and hearing the responses she got. Her curious nature craving new knowledge.
"Your family sounds a lot like mine, too! Our clan is certainly bigger than what it was once, but the Subiani name is still the dominant one." Her tail curled with thought. "I think I like it, though. I love having family around a lot even if some of them are grumpy." Mention no names, of course...
Then she blinked slowly, clearly pondering on the possibility that Kalanu had caught onto something there. "Yes. You might be right about that. After all he can tell me to go away without feeling bad, but if he told you to go away, it'd make him and the clan look bad." She nodded. "My little brother is way too dedicated to even comprehending that possibility. Poor guy would probably keel over." She chuckled. "Me and my elder sister have been trying to get him to lighten up a bit recently but without success. So when I heard someone had managed to get him to drop his duties for a little bit I just had to come and find you!"
She sighed. "You know, even when he was a cub he was out on 'patrol' with his serious face on. I was starting to think he was a lost cause..."

Kalanu continued to beam. Everything Laka said only made her feel better about what she had accomplished with Poa, and more attached to him. It definitely sounded like he had been in serious need of some fun before she came around, and if he was talking about it, he couldn't have hated it.
"That sounds adorable," she giggled at the idea of little Poa trying to patrol with a serious face, though she realized it was kind of sad it went uninterrupted right into adulthood, "He mentioned you last time I saw him, I sneaked up and he thought it was you coming to bother him. That's why I wanted to meet you, too!"
How very lucky they had run into each other!

Laka laughed out loud and bounced back to her paws, pacing excitedly as the cogs in her mind began to turn. "Hey, you know what? Maybe we should play some sort of trick on him? I don't usually succeed on my own, but I think with us teamed together, we should be able to come up with something pretty special."
She chuckled to herself again as she began to ponder on possibilities.
"What do you say? Want to see if we can change his grumpy frown upside down?"

Wriggling excitedly, Kalanu considered what Laka was suggesting- it wasn't anything malicious or mean, it was only in fun, to try to get him to smile. What could be wrong about that? She didn't think about how her last conversation with Poa had been very specifically about their different ideas of what was fun.
"OK, that sounds like fun!"

"Excellent! Okay, we have some time to plan, since he'll be on patrol...all day." She gave a fake yawn to show exactly what she thought about that. "So we can draw out a flawless plan which will work out just as we need!"
She grinned wide and moved to sit in the shade, throwing herself down onto the cool grass. "This is going to be so much fun! Now...all we have to do now is think of a fail-proof plan and victory will be ours."
Poor Poa wouldn't know what was coming...
