Seven had never met anyone that hadn't had to think twice before they could accept the fact that she was a Fighter. Everything about her pointed in another direction, namely, that of being a Pet. Seven was the quintessential girl. She preened and made sure every hair was in place before going anywhere, even to big fights; she ate like a lady; she moved with a daintiness that belied her fighting blood; she giggled. So it was no surprise that everybody had a hard time seeing her as a Fighter.

Which suited Seven just fine. The thing about disbelief was that it could be damning, and when she entered the pit with a cocky, overbearing Fighter that thought it could take the fight without breaking out into a sweat, she had the upper hand. She had all sorts of tricks in her pocket that worked all the better when they were unexpected. But most of all, she just delighted in the act of showing those Fighters up. They could eat their own words and crawl home with their tails between their legs, ashamed that they had lost to a girl.

That was the way Seven preferred to keep it, and her handler had similar ideas. She never fought outside of the pit, never trained with anyone but Culls and retired Fighters - Mokai that would never have the opportunity to meet her head-on in a real fight. When it came down to it, she didn't want her opponents to know how far she could go. It was all part of... an act, almost, the smiling and flirting and giggling. It was who she was, yes, but also a guard-breaker.

Today, Seven had been given a bit of rein. Her handler let her wander once in a while, in the hopes that her reputation as a girl would spread and her fights would be met with more ease. She was more than happy to oblige, and more often than not, she actively sought out fellow Fighters in these instances. She never knew who she might run into, after all.

After the little ‘training’ session with Cellen, Ai found her body hurting just as much as when she had been in the battle the previous day. The male had made some obvious points, and Ai was to make sure that she would never fall victim to those kinds of faults again. While he wasn’t necessarily her friend, for some reason he was trying to help her. He appearing to be a veteran fighter could mean that somehow he had seen potential in her. She couldn’t let that get to her brain though.

The female was heading back to the compound, where she could rest her aching muscles and throbbing head for a good few hours until feeding time arose. She now understood the reason why she was told to ‘take it easy’ for a few days. Apparently, when wounds look to be healing, they really aren’t, and can cause more pain than what they are worth.

Not exactly in a limp, but rather just a very slow walk, Ai had made her way back; however, something caught her eye. The large build of another Mokai only meant one thing, another fighter. She couldn’t help but smirk. Although she was out of commission from any type of fighting, she could always try her hand at meeting potential opponents to see just how they really were like.

She turned her direction towards Seven, golden eyes watching her intently.

Oh, and just her luck! Seven turned to catch sight of the golden-eyed fighter carefully pacing her way. From afar, the dark Mokai's slate-gray eyes took in the other's form, noting first the striped pelt and muscled build, then the half-healed wounds and stilted walk. Clearly, this Mokai was not at her best.

Seven made her way forward. Since it seemed as though they were on course to meet either way, she figured she would lessen the distance that the striped fighter would have to hobble to reach her, the poor thing. She seemed so very much in discomfort! A simpering smile of empathy came across Seven's face as she neared, and she looked the other fighter up and down, shaking her head lightly.

Oh dear, oh dear, she was in such a state! It must have been horribly painful. Seven settled her rump into the ground with a sympathetic sigh. "Oh, but you do look like you've been through a spot of trouble," she mused, understanding written all over her face. "It must have been a tough fight. I wouldn't even want to imagine..." She trailed off dramatically.

"How are you coping? That yellow stuff must mean something bad happened." She added, all ready for the other Mokai to start pouring her heart out.

“That obvious, huh?” Ai smirked. She had seen this female around every now and then, but never actually stopped to talk with her. She was too busy with her training to do so. She sat down, her tail curling around her front legs. “You should have seen it,” a toothy grin flashed. “But the outcome was good,” while she played down her attitude about some things, when it came to winning a match, Ai was as cocky as they come.

With a shrug, her smile turned back to her trademark frown. “Oh, okay, for the most part.” She couldn’t wait until the wounds ‘officially’ healed, so the nasty yellow goop wouldn’t have to be stuck to her side every twelve hours. “I can’t wait to get into the battle arena again.” Ah, the sign of eagerness in the young fighter. “It’s not as bad as it seems though,” Ai said, actually addressing Seven’s statement.

“When do you go into the ring?”

Most of the things that came out of Seven's mouth required professional translation in order for them to be understood the way she really meant them. But that, too was just the way she preferred it. The hollow compliments and empty smiles that she used to buy "friendship" and trust wouldn't work if everybody understood the way her mind ticked.

"Well, of course! It's the mark of a fighter, having a few cuts here and there, isn't it?" Read: that gaping wound just screams rookie or bad luck, neither of which you really want to show people. But of course, she said it with a grin and a conspiratorial wink, so it usually took somebody who really knew what she was like to decipher her hidden meanings. "Oh, I wish I could have seen the fight. I'll bet it was exciting, and probably the perfect place to pick up some new tricks, huh?" Read: watching your fight would have let me see all your weaknesses and tactics, so that I could kick your butt the next time we come face to face. "Learn by watching, that's what my master says. But I'll bet you won. Congratulations! It's always smart to celebrate the victories." Meaning: when the victories lasted, because who knew just how soon they'd be gone.

"Are you sure?" She added, the concern practically dripping from her every word. "I mean, if you ever need some painkillers or something, I'm sure I could get you some." Not that Seven doubted the striped Mokai's ability to obtain things for herself - it was the feminine charm, and the whole... furry critter appeal that seemed to render humans incapable of saying no. The fact that fighters like themselves earned money made them even more irresistible.

"I'm due for a fight any day now, I suppose," Seven added. Even she could genuinely understand the longing for a good fight, even if there wasn't much else she could actually sympathize with. "If it's a good one, I'll be sure to let you know," she said a little smugly. Expecting to win kind of came with the territory, but even if she didn't, some excitement was enough to keep her content. It had been a long time since she had seen any real action, after all, and her first fight under Devin's training, so she could forgive herself if she lost her first time out. At the very least, though, she wasn't going to let herself get battered about in the pit. "I'm Seven, by the way."

Her eyes narrowed, though a smirk remained on her maw. “Isn’t it. Gotta prove to your competition who exactly they are messing with.” Scars could mean a lot of things. For one, they could mean the Mokai was reckless, and weak. On the other, it meant that the Mokai would actually have the balls to make some marks in the field. If they ended up with scars, sure enough, the other probably ended up with some as well. Ai didn’t believe that the injuries she had sustained would scar though. She could have lucked out, if others believe scars as weakness.

“The best time to pick up the tricks, is when you’re in the arena yourself. No better way to calculate others moves then facing them moments before collisions.”

“You’re master is smart.” She didn’t say what her master had told her, nor what Cellen had said to her. Instead, she kept it a secret. Something about her character was a little…off… Ai was certainly not use to such a happy personality coming from the fighters. Usually they were more gruff. Was this girl certain she had the mentality to be a fighter?

“I think I’m good, but I’ll keep that in mind.” She hated the medicine that the humans gave her already, certainly she wouldn’t want to get more medication from a Mokai.

“You’ll have too. I do enjoy hearing about other’s competitions.” If she could persuade the others on what they did wrong, then she too would know the mistakes one was likely to make again, therefore in a time came to battle them, she’d know. “Who knows, whenever they let me battle again, I may be your next challenger,” she smirked, bobbing her head to move the tufts of hair away from her covered eye. “But you can’t expect me to go so easy on you, just because we’re friends now.” Friends? That term could be used wearily. Wasn’t there the statement about keeping your friends close, and enemies closer?

“I’m Ai.”

"Teach them a lesson," Seven agreed. In girl world, a "lesson" could mean anything, could come in any form, but in the ring, a "lesson" meant beating somebody as badly as he could be beaten. That was one universal truth that all fighters could hang on to, and Seven as no exception. After all, who didn't want to win big? Who didn't love the feeling of total domination in a fight, or even just domination in general? Winning was winning, no matter how much or how little, and bragging rights came with it regardless.

"Calculating moves, hm," she said, almost to herself. A smirk flitted across her face to rest upon her muzzle. Seven knew a little something about calculation. It was practically her life; every move she or anybody else made was factored into the mental map she carried, charting all possible outcomes and moves.

Already, Ai was being fitted into that mental map. There were many things that an alliance of sorts with the striped Mokai could do for Seven, and she knew almost how far those things could take her. More tricks to be learned, lessons to be had, strategies to be gleaned... The possibilities were virtually endless.

"Maybe," the dark Mokai nodded, smiling. There was always the possibility that the two of them would be up in the ring, almost a certainty. The world of fighting Mokai was not so large, after all, especially when they got up to the top tiers of fighters. Not that Seven was anywhere near that yet, but someday. She had no doubts that she would be up there at the top with the greats. Her ego demanded it. "Don't worry, I wouldn't dream of it... friend." Her smile stretched into a grin. Sure, they were. Sure. "As long as we're on the same page."

Friendship was a... tricky business, anyway. It was even a weakness of sorts that Seven certainly didn't appreciate, but it was always good to keep some Mokai close. She never knew just how it might benefit her.

"Ai?" She echoed. "Well, that's just a beautiful name! Simple, elegant. I love it."

“Of course,” Ai stated. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.” The two of their tones was as if they were young school children who secretly hated each other. Who knew, maybe the two actually did dislike the other enough to play it cool until it was time to actually show who really was the ‘boss’.

“My master chose the perfect name for me, I think. Seven is a good name too,” Though, seven could also be a foreboding number as if you would only make it through seven fights. Ai thought to herself, closing her eyes with a nice grin plaguing her maw.

Her eyes shifted to the sky. “Oh, drat…it’s getting late. Master will be wanting to see me soon. We should meet up again another time Seven.” We could train…let me in our your secrets. “What do you think?”

"Well, thanks!" She said, accepting Ai's compliment with a demure giggle. It wasn't so much of a name as a... number she had received while first under Devin's care. She had been one of ten or so Mokai, and she had happened to be the seventh one. Somehow, it had stuck and Number Seven had shortened itself to Seven, and had eventually become a name. The russet-pelted Mokai didn't complain, though. It wasn't like she had had a name at her old handler's stable. "Lucky number seven, right?"

And lucky she had been indeed. All of the other Mokai had been given new homes, who knew where and how, but Seven had found her match with Devin. Some days, it felt like he could even read her mind, and he would react accordingly to her wishes and desires. He had an instinctive understanding of her, and Seven knew that she could rest assured in the knowledge that he would never put her into a situation she wasn't quite ready for.

"It's a date," she agreed, quirking her brow in tacit amusement. So, they had the same ideas. That was good. It meant she would have a bit more of a challenge, then, keeping several steps ahead of Ai. That was always a welcome exercise. "Who knows, maybe we'll both get something out of it."

“Excellent,” golden eyes stared right into Seven’s green ones. “Well, life is full of surprises,” a daring wink ensued. “Let’s try to meet here in three days time! Just after breakfast. We’ll get to know each other better then.” Ai turned away from Seven, beginning her trek back up to the compound, where she knew dinner would be there soon.

“Until then, Seven,” With her back away from the brown mokai, thought after thought ran through the striped gal’s head. Seven seemed like a character that would spill her secrets easily enough. Now, to only find the best way to do so. Getting inside every mind of all the potential fighters on the island was going to be Ai’s mission. There would be no surprises in the compound on her next battle.
