Hey everyone. Since I love the autumn season and Samhain is coming up, I'd like to learn more about it and how to celebrate it. I've done some research online, but I'm interested to hear what you guys like to do for it.
So...
How do you celebrate Samhain? Do you follow old traditions? If so, what kind? Do you make up your own ways to honor/celebrate the season?

IttyBittyBatwing Hey everyone.
YES, I was hoping someone would ask this question! smile Gosh, the autum season is my favorite, and Samhain is definitely my favorite sabbat! biggrin Since I haven't always been Pagan, I still "celebrate" Halloween, which idk if you can celebrate it, because all it is, is kids getting free candy xD But anyways, I usually do the same thing for it each year, but sometimes I make up different stuff. I usually do fun activities like making corn dollies for my altar, carving pumpkins, making pumpkin cookies, and other halloween-ish treats. I dress up in costume, which is one way to celebrate Samhain, not just halloween. I go to haunted houses (which is more a halloween thing) And then once it gets dark out, I'm going over to my friends house. Her and her mother are both wiccan. We're going to be doing all different kinds of stuff, since Samhain is the time when the veil to the spirit world is the thinnest, and divination/magic is very strong on this time. So we'll be doing different forms of scrying, probably tell each other's fortunes by palm-reading, etc. Talk to some spirits smile we plan on going to a cemetary to sit and just feel the spirits' presence. Also, we're going to leave plates of food out for any passing spirits, and since they both believe in fairies, we're leaving milk and honey outside as an offering. Gosh, we have so much planned I'm so excited! =D Sorry if I've ranted. =P

That sounds AWESOME!
I'm going to dress as a banshee (redundancy, gwahaha!) and my friends and I are going to traverse the streets of our tiny little town like we OWN THEM! XD (not hard to do, when you live in a town our size)
I'll yell "Happy Samhain!" and everybody but Shane will say "What? What are you sewing?" XD
And then we're going to have a party at one of my friends' houses. Maybe get somebody to pick up some food at the deli before it closes if me and Hales don't get a chance to cook anything for everybody. Get a good fire going, and get my boys to bring out their guitars, and I'll sing a bunch of songs.
I'll also bring my cards along just in case anybody wants a reading, as usual. And my OTHER cards, cause, granted I don't go to sleep before dawn, I'll be wanting to play some rummy. One of my friends says she wants to make "trick caramel apples" with something nasty in place of the apple. I'm rather scared at the possibilities brewing in her mind. O_o
But yeah. It's gonna be a great night! XD

I don't celebrate Samhain. I do celebrate other holidays at the same time of year.
I honour the dead and I blot to Hel and Odin.

I've never done it before (unless you count Tarot), so I wonder if it would be easier at Samhain for a beginner to do it than at other times of the year. The idea of going to a graveyard also sounds really cool. And no, you're not ranting at all. ^^

Sanguina Cruenta I don't celebrate Samhain. I do celebrate other holidays at the same time of year. I honour the dead and I blot to Hel and Odin. Seems like a nice, peaceful Halloween. I like that idea, too. What is blotting? I don't think I've ever heard the term.

I missed out the accent over the o because I can never remember the code for it sweatdrop It's pronounced "bloat", and it's a simple Norse ritual. You dedicate a drink to the gods and share it with them, essentially.

I think I'm going to keep it simple and set out a few candles for departed relatives. I might re-set up my Mom's shrine and put out an empty plate for her too.

Oh... how I love Samhain... such a beautiful time of year, and with the veil so thin, it feels like anything is possible.
I had plans with friends, ten of us(who practice solitarily, ironicly) were going to come together and perform a ritual to honor the God and Goddess. I was going to bring a black candle to honor my beloved Hecate.
Sadly, things don't seem to be working out... As of yesterday, there were only two of us, but I talked to her and she had decided not to do anything. So, I think I'm just gonna do some simple things. Refresh the healing spell for my sick grandmother, invite the fey in and out of the cold(only if they are going to be benevolent, of course).
Guess I'll charge my ritual objects, as well. Probably still light a black candle for Hecate.
