Sailor Aster hadn't left the Virgo Outpost very much at all since her near-death experience with the Negaverse back on Earth. Her physical injuries had fully recovered, but she was still afraid to spend time patrolling the streets of Destiny City. Sure, she returned home and continued her civilian life as usual, but only dared to henshin up to the Senshi of Sunflowers when awaiting transport back to the Zodiacs' Surrounding. Unfortunately, it appeared that even the Surrounding wasn't immune to the Negaverse's reach as reports of youma and corrupted Senshi spottings filled the gossip of the Outposts.

"I'll be ready," she thought to herself. She won't be a victim again; she couldn't allow it. Being a passive idealist had nearly cost her her life. She had to be better if she wanted to live through this war, if she wanted to see it to its end.

She sat alone on the steps outside the Virgo Outpost, staring out into the galactic scenery. She frowned, thinking of all the hardships she had gone through already from this war: the death of Alex, the near death of Ricky, her own experience, the reported disappearances of Jett and Mal - the latter of which disappeared in her very arms, the...

A familiar figure was approaching the Outpost. ...Could it be? Aster leapt to her feet, jaw dropped at the return of the missing girl.

"You're alive?" her voice boomed in a mix of amazement and shock. "What...wha---?"

More words would certainly come later, formulated into sentences. But for then, Aster was speechless.

Mal Landsman was dead.

Well, not really. More like transformed. She had sprung from the cocoon that was her civilian existence and emerged with wings spread like some sort of...

“Oh,” she said to herself, pausing on the Surrounding’s rainbow road. “Now I get it.”

Frankly, there was a lot that Mal now got. Her brief trip to mirrorspace had been surprisingly educational. For a woman wielding a theatrically large golden torch, Princess Ares had made some salient points. The senshis were all misguided souls in need of saving. Earth was an insignificant spec of a cesspool. Space should be colonized and repopulated by a superior race of beings. The Dark Mirror Court’s ultimate goal was essentially a more well thought out version of a similar plan Mal had come up with after a night spent getting high and watching Fraggle Rock. Though, her version of a cosmic utopia had contained far more laser-breathing dragons.

Mal had returned to the Surrounding a changed woman. She had a purpose now. She was part of something larger than herself. She had super powers. But, most importantly, she had been tasked with playing the double agent, and for the better part of the past hour she had been somersaulting between various forms of cover while humming the 007 theme to herself. Which is why Aster didn’t discover her so much approaching the Virgo Outpost as she was rolling towards it.

“Da na na na na na na na naaah na na naaaaa - oh, s**t,” Mal faltered mid-flip as she spotted Aster gawking at her, stumbling a few steps before coming to a stop at the foot of the stairs. She straightened herself, a look of forced ease crossing her face. “Oh, yo, Sailor Sunshine. How’s it hanging?”

Mal’s assurances to Princess Ares that she would be as subtle as a Bon Iver song may have been an instance of her mouth writing a check that her a** could not conceivably cash.

"Its Sailor Aster," she correct with a sweet smile. It wasn't that she was against nicknames - and something perky like sunshine certainly fit her description.B But that name...Aster was born Butterfly Sunray Jones. After much bullying in her elementary school years, she insisted that her name be changed and settled on the name Haley. Although she kept her middle name, any pet nicknames relating to sunshine or butterflies tended to be quickly corrected.

"Its hanging...good?" Her statement ended with a questioning tone. Why was she going through this small talk? What was with her candid attitude? "What happened to you? Where did you go? Have you told anyone else where you went? Did you got back to Earth? How did you get back? Are you safe?"

Her mind was spinning with questions, and she uncontrollably spat them out rapidly as soon as they came to her. She had been such a bad Senshi lately - what, with barely surviving a Negaverse attack - that she thought she could redeem herself to some degree with the discovery of one of the presumed dead civilians.

"Sailor Aster? Now, see, did you get to pick that name, or was it assigned to you, because I..." Mal bit her tongue to get it to stop moving, preventing herself from outing her new identity within five seconds of her first attempt at reconnaissance. She would have to find someone else to complain to about her suggestion to be named Sailor Scarlett Johansson being ignored. "... was curious about your culture's many customs," she smoothly saved. Yeah, customs. That worked.

"What happened to me? Well, apparently it was that monster's fifth birthday party and I was the piñata. Everything after getting knocked unconscious is kind of fuzzy because I was, y'know, knocked unconscious." Mal spoke with such matter-of-factness it seemed as if she thought Aster was the weird one for being so confused. "I woke up by your guys's pool. Not really sure how I ended up there. Temporal worm hole, I'm guessing. It's space, I bet temporal worm holes are like pigeons for you guys."

Mal's laid back grin turned patient as she was further assaulted with questions. Aster's concern was cute, if not a little annoying. The senshis were such clear charity cases that Mal was beginning to view her mission as akin to turning crazy homeless people into contributing members of society.

"Seriously, bro, I don't want to sound like a b***h, but if I had ended up back on Earth, I don't think my first order of business would be trying to get back here, y'dig?" Despite recently learning about all of humanity's flaws, Earth was still far preferable to the Surrounding. Being here now, knowing what she knew, the place made her skin crawl more than it had even before her enlightenment. "What about you guys? What's the word on the street around here? Any whale sightings?"
