Once upon a time, a storyteller went about the land, looking to tell the most fascinating of tales. There was one problem, however. His story had a beginning and an end but no middle. It was terribly uninteresting, and no one would listen (for there was nothing to listen to). People preferred to come up with their own ideas and add their own twists, and before long, the story had taken up a life of its very own...

Starts: Now
Ends: October 23, 2011 at 5PM PST | 6PM MST | 7PM CST | 8PM EST (May be extended if necessary.)

Rules:
★ The winner will receive a semi-custom god/dess. The theme will be derived from the story itself. (The god/dess' history should also come from this contest. It doesn't have to be an exact copy, as there may be parts within it that do not go with a god, but it should be close.) Another prize (linked below) is also available, with all participants having a chance for it.
★ This thread is for entries only. If you have any questions, ask in the main thread.
★ To play, simply type up your own addition / continuation of the story in this thread (the beginning of which is provided below).
★ Please limit it to up to three paragraphs per post at most, however, to give others a chance to add to it.
★ You may post an unlimited amount of times, but a minimum of two different people must have posted after your latest post before you can participate again.
★ When you post, put at the top of your post the name of the person's story your are continuing (ie. B would put "A" on the top of its post to continue A's story, then C would put "B" on top of its post and continue B's story, and so forth). If multiple people respond to the same post, only the first should be considered. (The rest should be skipped, and will not count towards the minimum-of-two-people-must-post limit.)
★ Please do not delete any posts. At most, simply edit out all contests of the post or strike it out.
★ No one may "save" a spot (basically posting a blank or WIP post with plans to finish it later). The story continues with whomever posts a completed continuation first.
★ Only one story should be worked on. If multiple chains break out, only the first should be followed.
★ Do not specify the species. At most, just refer to it as "the Carousel" or something of the sort. (You can say it walked, swam, flew, etc. however, even if you don't know what species it will be and what it will have.)
★ Gender can be specified. The first person to refer to the Carousel's gender will have chosen it, and it must remain the same gender throughout the story.
★ Appearance should remain, overall, vague. You can say something along the lines of "she poked him with her horns" or "she fluffed her mane" because dragons have horns and both lions and dragons have manes and the species can be anything, but there shouldn't be any "he tied the tattered, blood-soaked ribbon about his neck, securing the collar of his shirt against the wind."
★ After a while back-reading may take a while. Because of this, we won't require you to read everything before posting, but please peruse the latest posts before you make your own to prevent repetition / keep things sensible (ie. the Carousel shouldn't be walking around a warm valley and then suddenly be flying around a blazing blizzard in the next post).
★ All roleplay rules apply (along with the standard "winners may not give away the prize" and "others may not write your entry for you").
★ All god limitations apply.
★ Despite the title, gods are not beings capable of doing anything they'd like. There are limitations (such as they cannot be overpowered (all gods should be roughly equal in ability), they are always first gen (meaning they became gods when they gave themselves life. They cannot be born from previously existing carousels), and no two gods have the same domain). If required, staff will ask the winner to omit certain parts of the story to fit this (since the story will be, for the most part, the god/dess' history).
★ If your chosen domain is too similar to an existing one, you need the owner of that god's domain's permission before being able to use it. A list of existing gods and domains may be found in the owner's list here.

Judges: Ryuukishin and some other staff who have hair.
Judging On: This will be judged the same way a roleplay contest is. The amount of posts you make does not guarantee a win as we will be looking for quality over quantity. (At the same time, we'll be looking for an active owner to give a god/dess to. If a person posts only once and rarely pops by in the main thread, it may be mistaken for lack of interest and the person will be less likely to be chosen.) The last two god contest winners will not be eligible to win a god/dess in this contest but may still participate.
Prizes: The aforementioned semi-custom god/dess colored by Ryuukishin (whether the domain is colorist-choice or winner's choice will depend on the story) for the first place winner. Everyone else who participates (even previous winners) will be entered into a flaffle (one ticket per person, not per post) for this pet (which can be given away).

Prompt:
It was a dark and stormy night...

(It's the best beginning ever, okay? And it's almost Halloween; we need something scary. |<)

Updates:
★ I'll try to keep up with the story and throw in current information here (however, it will only be information that will remain relevant for a while, such as wounds). Also, please keep in mind that I'm usually busy with limited access to the computer on weekdays, so your best bet would be to back-read the latest posts for up-to-date information.
★ Carousel has been dubbed female.

It was a dark and stormy night, the wind was howling, tearing autumn leafs from their branches. Flashes of lighting cast the silhouette of a running Carousel against the trees and bushes. There was a thunder clap over head, strong enough to be felt in one's chest, luckily the rain held off for now. The Carousel felt alive but she ran with a purpose in this weather, there was somewhere she had to be.

She gazed up at the evil red glossy moon that was beginning to fade among st the moving dusty clouds. She ran and ran knowing the intent of this night will surely not be one to forget.
For tonight literally all hell will break loose...

The rain quickly plastered her mane against her body but she strove forward, fighting the wind. She knew where she was, and so she was ready when she reached the river surging before her. However, what she was not expecting was the tree that she usually used to crossed on to be gone.

It was foolish, but she had to try it, she had to get to the other side and she had no time to waste. Throwing caution to the wind she ran forward, plunging into the river.

The water was like a cold icy hand of death on her body trying to drag her under to her grave. But she fought it and reached the other side. With a wide grin on her face she continuing to run forward..she was going to be late and she can't be late for this special occasion.
'I knew I could make that swim, no problem nothing can stop me!' she sad to herself in a slightly cocky manner.
Finally....she had just past through twisted roots of an older part of the forest and what lie before her you ask? A grave site but not just any rustic graveyard. This one was...'special'. She carefully prodded her way to a gave that looked extremely old, battered and beaten. And on the tombstone was a language that was unknown to the Carous. On top of the grave stone was a carved sleeping demon clad in spiny armor.. she approached the grave slowly...

This post will still count since it's been replied to already, but remember to keep the rules in mind.

She approached the grave slowly, fearful that there were hidden traps laid about the mysterious grave site. Heaven knows what she would do if she happened to fall into a leaf and dirt covered net, or have her leg snagged by a well placed, rusty bear trap. The female didn't have as much skill when it came to those obstacles, even though she was pretty certain that nothing could stop her from getting to this occasion.
The careful carousel also feared waking other beings that might be near. Heaven forbid if any confronted her in this area. The legends that were foretold of these beings as merciless and cruel, which did not paint a pretty picture in her mind. She really wanted to perform this ceremony, even with the dangers she faced. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and there was no way in hell she was going to miss it! Life threatening or not!
She creeped up next to the tombstone and placed her front paws on it's stoney surface when her tail brushed up against something soft. Surprised, she stayed stock still as that thing that her tail lightly touched groaned.

After several minutes of nothing happening she examined the soft thing more closely. Some had seemingly left an old doll, perhaps some treasure at the grave site. The groaning noise came again, and she realized it was a tree making the noise as it was the wind howled against it.

Feeling rather silly she turned back to the tombstone. Now how do I do this again? Was it the push back then twist left, or rub counter-clockwise?

She fiddled with the thing till she broke out into a sweat. "Ugh! Why won't this stupid thing work for me!" Feeling frustrated and a bit defeated she fell on the tombstone. "I've come so far, why do I have to be stopped here." She pounded on the tombstone with her fist and then there was an audible click. Her eyes shot open wide as a trap door fell open from under her. She scrambled to hold on to something but it was too late, she was already falling.

She fell and rolled down the dead soil getting dizzy and slightly sick. As she tumbled slight lights began to light up around her...red lights and soon with a heavy 'THUD' she hit the ground hard..
Her vision was blurred and doubled...red glowing stones. What lie before her sent shock waves through her soul paralyzing her voice as she tried to scream because of what lies in front of her....

What lies in front of her was a carousel, crouched on the ground, starting straight at her. The enemy had a wild look in it's eyes, and a disheveled state, giving it a terrifying look. The female inched slowly to the side, but the other followed. When she tried to slide backwards, the other slid backwards also. The female stopped, and took a step forward. But so did the other. They both tilted their head to study the other. With shaky footsteps, the female slowly closed the distance, and found...

A somewhat dirty looking mirror. Dark smudges, combined with her soaked fur had made her look like a foreign creature. Feeling even more foolish than she had before she turned, glad that no one had seen this embarrassing display.

But at least she had made it down here. Straightening up she looked around her. There was only one way to really go, and she headed down the tunnel in front her with a sense of urgency, she really was going to be late if she didn't stop playing around. The tunnel turned and widened and she found herself...

She herd low bellowing ringing out of the dripping cavern. Around her she saw rustic artifacts similar to the doll..and the old mirror. She saw gears, watches, dusty fur adorned clothes, old tools..but there was a sinister side to these mere found objects.
She continued to quicken her pace as she was almost there...ahead along with the bellowing there was a slow turning giant gear. She paused to wait for the right time to jump through the gear. She smoothly landed on an odd surface..no not odd to her at all but the general public of course! There was made out of bits of metal..broken metal but welded together to feel glass smooth.
"I'm almost there..." she breathed as she looked up at the rusty sign that said...

....a phrase of some sort in it's twisted labyrinth of words, yet the words were long forgotten; words that even the Gods never truly understood and for the eldest, the idea was merely a faint memory in the back of their mind that slowly died more and more as time drizzled by. With a groan, she knew she was close, she had to be. This cavern was forbidden to be entered by any and the consequences were dire if one was caught. Taking a deep breath, she summoned every ounce of control and strength she could within her beaten form and took another step that would lead to a series of mind numbing steps. Each one bringing her closer and closer to her goal...though that path that promised relief would only be cruel with it's twisting and maze like tunnels. Frustration and fear where a horrible combo and quickly they began to plague her mind and doubt began to firmly set in. What if she didn't make it? What if....

Xyntha: the questions plaguing her died off as the tunnel widened and she entered a large room. Here there were more of the gears, a broken machine that promised fluffy blue and pink candy was to her left. Warped mirrors, that made her look skinny and fat at the same time, mis-shaping her appearance were to her right. And in front of her? Yes, there it was.

Somehow in this maze seemed to be the broken remnants of a carnival. She walked forward, and to her dismay saw a broken carousel creature, still on a rusted post, the paint chipped away and the wood cracked down the center. She bowed her head in a moment of silence and then walked on, toward the real reason she had ventured into this twisted maze.

As she walked, she drank her surroundings in through her vibrant eyes. There was no-one else here and she kept herself low to the ground. There was a creak every now and then, but otherwise no sound lit her senses and nothing moved.

There were some game stalls appearing around her now, making a chain that lead in all sorts of different directions. She looked left and right as she came to a crossroad of stalls, trying to remember what way she should go.

Eventually, she decided to go to the...
