Once upon a time, a storyteller went about the land, looking to tell the most fascinating of tales. There was one problem, however. His story had a beginning and an end but no middle. It was terribly uninteresting, and no one would listen (for there was nothing to listen to). People preferred to come up with their own ideas and add their own twists, and before long, the story had taken up a life of its very own...
Starts: Now
Ends: October 23, 2011 at 5PM PST | 6PM MST | 7PM CST | 8PM EST (May be extended if necessary.)
Rules:
★ The winner will receive a semi-custom god/dess. The theme will be derived from the story itself. (The god/dess' history should also come from this contest. It doesn't have to be an exact copy, as there may be parts within it that do not go with a god, but it should be close.) Another prize (linked below) is also available, with all participants having a chance for it.
★ This thread is for entries only. If you have any questions, ask in the main thread.
★ To play, simply type up your own addition / continuation of the story in this thread (the beginning of which is provided below).
★ Please limit it to up to three paragraphs per post at most, however, to give others a chance to add to it.
★ You may post an unlimited amount of times, but a minimum of two different people must have posted after your latest post before you can participate again.
★ When you post, put at the top of your post the name of the person's story your are continuing (ie. B would put "A" on the top of its post to continue A's story, then C would put "B" on top of its post and continue B's story, and so forth). If multiple people respond to the same post, only the first should be considered. (The rest should be skipped, and will not count towards the minimum-of-two-people-must-post limit.)
★ Please do not delete any posts. At most, simply edit out all contests of the post or strike it out.
★ No one may "save" a spot (basically posting a blank or WIP post with plans to finish it later). The story continues with whomever posts a completed continuation first.
★ Only one story should be worked on. If multiple chains break out, only the first should be followed.
★ Do not specify the species. At most, just refer to it as "the Carousel" or something of the sort. (You can say it walked, swam, flew, etc. however, even if you don't know what species it will be and what it will have.)
★ Gender can be specified. The first person to refer to the Carousel's gender will have chosen it, and it must remain the same gender throughout the story.
★ Appearance should remain, overall, vague. You can say something along the lines of "she poked him with her horns" or "she fluffed her mane" because dragons have horns and both lions and dragons have manes and the species can be anything, but there shouldn't be any "he tied the tattered, blood-soaked ribbon about his neck, securing the collar of his shirt against the wind."
★ After a while back-reading may take a while. Because of this, we won't require you to read everything before posting, but please peruse the latest posts before you make your own to prevent repetition / keep things sensible (ie. the Carousel shouldn't be walking around a warm valley and then suddenly be flying around a blazing blizzard in the next post).
★ All roleplay rules apply (along with the standard "winners may not give away the prize" and "others may not write your entry for you").
★ All god limitations apply.
★ ★ Despite the title, gods are not beings capable of doing anything they'd like. There are limitations (such as they cannot be overpowered (all gods should be roughly equal in ability), they are always first gen (meaning they became gods when they gave themselves life. They cannot be born from previously existing carousels), and no two gods have the same domain). If required, staff will ask the winner to omit certain parts of the story to fit this (since the story will be, for the most part, the god/dess' history).
★ ★ If your chosen domain is too similar to an existing one, you need the owner of that god's domain's permission before being able to use it. A list of existing gods and domains may be found in the owner's list here.
Judges: Ryuukishin and some other staff who have hair.
Judging On: This will be judged the same way a roleplay contest is. The amount of posts you make does not guarantee a win as we will be looking for quality over quantity. (At the same time, we'll be looking for an active owner to give a god/dess to. If a person posts only once and rarely pops by in the main thread, it may be mistaken for lack of interest and the person will be less likely to be chosen.) The last two god contest winners will not be eligible to win a god/dess in this contest but may still participate.
Prizes: The aforementioned semi-custom god/dess colored by Ryuukishin (whether the domain is colorist-choice or winner's choice will depend on the story) for the first place winner. Everyone else who participates (even previous winners) will be entered into a flaffle (one ticket per person, not per post) for this pet (which can be given away).
Prompt:
It was a dark and stormy night...
(It's the best beginning ever, okay? And it's almost Halloween; we need something scary. |<)
Updates:
★ I'll try to keep up with the story and throw in current information here (however, it will only be information that will remain relevant for a while, such as wounds). Also, please keep in mind that I'm usually busy with limited access to the computer on weekdays, so your best bet would be to back-read the latest posts for up-to-date information.
★ Carousel has been dubbed female.
