The string on his violin were really due.
He'd kind of neglected it, with all that had happened lately - his mother would probably have scolded him if she'd known. His violin was, in fact, her's - one she'd used for shows and orchestras before, and Daniel was taking a nearly overzealous care of it.
Except that he hadn't played as much as he had lately, and upon taking it out to do so in the first time in weeks, he noticed the state of the strings. The bow needed some work, too...
So he did as he usually did - took his violin, case and all, down to the instrument store down the street. Destiny Music was pretty much the biggest and most known of Destiny City, and he did like being here.
They pretty much always insisted that he played before he left, but he found he didn't mind. They all knew who he were, down in there. He was far from his mother, but probably the closet thing to a celebrity that stepped foot in there.
One day he was going to bring his mother down there. Max, the owner, would s**t bricks.
But now, it was alone that Daniel pushed the door and stepped inside.

Zac was counting out what bills he could towards the payment on his replacement violin. He’d severely underestimated his dependence on the instrument. It helped him think, it soothed him, it was a tiny escape when no others were immediately available and he’d broken it.
Quite by accident of course, he would never have done it damage willfully. Standing here amid all the ones that he wished he could walk home with was almost agony. The sleek brown wood of their bodies and the graceful necks carefully pinned with wire strings. The graceful bows of taught horsehair that would breathe life in an eloquent dance between the player and the instrument.
The money was counted and then taken out back to add to the paltry total that would eventually let him take one home. It was harder than it had been before as now, now he was playing for a space of his own, he had no one to fall back on but himself. Temptation was to pay with ‘blood’ money, or sleep money as it were but he was strangely irritated by that idea. Not that for his violin, not that for HIS music.
He instead lifted one of the displays carefully and the bow that went with it, one of the pricier ones he could only dream of but SO far from ‘top’ of the line. It was a ‘mere’ thousand or so, but still better than anything he had personally owned. He traced the first few chords of ‘dreaming little bird’ by ear and wit before reluctantly lowering it again and raising his eyes to greet the new person entering the shop.

Daniel walked into the last notes, head tilting in Zac's direction. That sounded familiar, but he didn't quite place it from the few notes he'd overheard.
It was pretty rare to see younger people here, save for high schoolers, some recalcitrant - most of the crowd around here was older. Hm.
Still, Daniel went to the counter. "Hey, Max, mind if I take some space for a few ? I need to resting my violin and tighten my bow."
"Sure thing, boy wonder." Max gave out an hearty laugh when Daniel blushed, right on cue. "Wouldn't want your mother to get upset, wouldn't we ?"
"Y-Yeah..." Daniel shot a bit of a glare at the older man - as much of a glare as he could conjure, anyway, took and paid for the strings, and went to one of the work bench, and opened the case.
It wouild be a familiar violin to Zac - Élise Schäfer had used it when she'd made her return from giving birth to her son, and used it for a good ten years before it seemed to simply vanish. This was a very skillful copy, most likely.
Right... ?

His eyes darted between the young man and the violin and back again; he looked like he wanted to say something but then quashed it unwilling to be anything as dreadful as rude, at least not here and now in his civilian form with nothing to hide behind, no anonymity to conceal him.
“…Lovely bit of work.” Was all he managed as far as struggling to put out a bit of conversation, have you played long?

Being talked to seemed to surprise him, as he'd been carefully taking the violin out of the case - head tilting back up to look at Zac when he spoke.
"It is." He simply said. Daniel was handling the violin like if it was the most precious thing in the world. "S-Since I've been young. My mother taught me." It was obvious that Daniel wasn't professional, if only because of the shyness that overtook him even now.

“Me too… I mean, not taught by my mother, just I’ve been learning a long time.” He turned a light shade of red and glanced back to the displays. “Well… there was an untimely ‘death’ in the family. It…. It didn’t survive my move.” He grimaced. It wasn’t strictly true but it was better than admitting that he’d been part of its unfortunate fate.
“…Um… Zac.” He said offering a hand. “I’d ask if you needed a hand but, it looks like you have a good handle on it. Do you mind if I watch?”

"Oh... Im sorry." Really, what did one say to that ? Thankfully, the purple-haired man didn't dig any deeper - instead took Zac's hand and shaking it. Not a very firm handshake, but there all the same.
"Daniel." He gave his own name in return. "I don't mind, but... You might wanna ask for a chair. Im not very... quick at it, but the idea of letting someone else handle it..."
Well, Zac probably understood. Instruments were almost a part of their owner's soul, and this one was even more precious since it had a bit of both his mother and him in it.

“Day off, no rush, and… I’ve never been so close to a violin that looks like the one that Élise Schäfer used. Mind you I’ve just seen the pictures but the wood grain, the color…” He gave a small shrug maybe embarrassed to have paid such close attention to a violin that was probably older than he was.
“And I don’t mind standing anyhow, I’m on my feet a lot anyhow, they say now it’s good for you.”

...Awkward moment.
This was very visibly an awkward moment. His mother wasn't actually very well-known outside Europe, and it came at as surprise, and for a moment Daniel could only blink and process, and ponder how the hell he was supposed to answer that.
"Well, ya see, dat be her son you're talking to here." Max said from behind the counter, amused. "Boy wonder's studying literature, though. A Shame. Would probably do a killing if he went pro."
A little too long in pondering, perhaps. "Y-Yeah well... He's right." It didn't stop it from shooting Max the best glare he could muster - which... really wasn't much. The man seemed simply amused. "And h-he's exaggerating. Im not that good."
Your parent being really good at something didn't magically make you the same, after all.

“Nothing wrong with literature, people don’t know how to write anymore if you don’t mind an honest opinion.” The young man replied though it didn’t look in the least like he cared if anyone wanted his honest opinion or not. “Besides, you know MY mother too and I can at least respect that you won’t want to live in someone’s shadow.” He said and the Shop keep gave a considering if regretful nod. “Shouldn’t speak ill of y’er family,” the Shop Keep scolded though it sounded halfhearted and got a wry look in turn.
“Didn’t mean to freak you out, she just does what I wish I could…” He shrugged and gazed down at the violin again. Someday, someday he’d have a violin like that.

"No, it's okay, I-I was just surprised." He said, carefully getting the violin out of it's case at last. "She isn't all that well-known outside Europe so far, though she's starting to try to get some concerts over here..."
Yeah The idea kind of terrified him, to be honest. He didn't want his mother anywhere near Destiny City, and he was certain no one could truly blame him.

“Here like state side?” he said with a curious blink. God he could just imagine the cost of tickets, never mind that it was almost defiantly formal wear, even if she got a concert here he’d need some way to get a Suit.
“That would be rather amazing.” He echoed quietly. “Not enough people appreciate that kind of thing, she’d have to sign on with some pop star or teenage ‘boy’ who sings like a castrato to get people to take a second look…” He said with a heavy edge of bitter to his voice. Ironically he didn’t hate pop music per say it was just that he felt very much that she deserved more recognition than she was clearly getting.
If only Naica knew that Europe was where Laurelite was from, he might have been whistling quite another tale about what parts of the world were ‘the most dangerous’.

"Yeah... She's been trying for awhile." He said. "She told me she might have found some place to do a few shows in... Seattle, I think ? But that was before the summer and she'd just had a series of shows all around Europe... So I don't know."
It was perhaps odd that he was talking about something like touring Europe so causally, but really - this had been Daniel's life for as long as he'd been alive. When he'd been younger, he had followed her to most of her shows and tours ever since he'd been old enough, taking classes by correspondence.
Perhaps that was part of why he was so shy, really - he'd seen the bright lights of the scene and had found them intimidating ever since he could walk.

It was a slim topic for conversation unless you counted pushing into ‘rude’ territory, if nothing else he might find out interesting things about the Woman’s son if he asked questions that pertained more to him.
“So, you write?” He said shifting the topic casually as he found a place to lean, resting his shoulder carefully against the wall as he tried not to let his gaze turn to the luxurious violin that was on display between them.

"Yeah." Daniel was focusing on the violin now - oddly enough it seemed easier for him to speak more clearly and with less stammering if he wasn't looking directly at the person he was talking to.
Unfortunately, it was also classified as a poor social interaction move, through really, Zac had probably guessed this was gonna happen. Unlike the blue-haired man, Daniel had little longing toward the instruments on the shelf. They were pretty, yes, but he was holding in his own two hands something with a kind of sentimental significance that money couldn't buy.
His mother wanted it to become an heirloom - she'd passed it to him, in hopes that he would pass it on to his children, and so forth.
The idea of him with children ? Still laughable, as far as he was concerned.
"Mostly short stories... Fantasy. I tried science-fiction. It's... not my thing." He made a face, really, at the idea. Not that science-fiction was bad in itself. - it just wasn't his style and ence, the writing came out horrid. Came out missing what truly made it 'his' writing.
"But im on the planing stages of what might be my first novel... I don't know yet. School... takes a lot of my time."
