User ImageShe was going to kill him, well, she was going to tear him a new one, no not a new one she was going to make sure he smiled permanently. How DARE he! She could not believe she had heard all of this second, third, fourth hand, that grape vine, ohhhhh she was going to kill him. If he hadn't already left she was going to KILL him.

If a storm cloud could follow anyone, it was following Afina right at that second. Right at that very second she was ready to make sure he was hairless. She should have heard this from HIM, not from her mother. Fuming was not the word, fuming was too mild.

If he hadn't gone, he would be on his god damned rock. That god damned rock, she wished she could tear it up so he couldn't retreat to it. His bloody god damned camouflaging rock. Well he wasn't going to avoid her, oh no, he was going to get an ear ful and he was going to lose some fur.

"XE-NON!!!!!!" She yells marching towards said infamous rock.

He would've been interested to know what she had heard. The discussion he had had with one of the council members had been reasonably private, but the grapevine always had a way of functioning and one could never be sure of what had been said and just how much had been twisted. Consequently, Xenon was rather lost in thought when his mate came storming down the beach towards him and was largely preoccupied with his own concerns - suffice to say that the lion had a great deal to ponder over since his meeting...particularly when it came to the approaching female.

Nevertheless her raised voice and seeming declaration of war was enough to startle him and as was customary, with that start came a loss of footing. Scrambling to maintain his balance would have been pointless and as a consequence, he simply accepted his fate. With wide eyes he tumbled from his perch, bumped against a number of rocks and landed with sprawled legs across the sand. A series of rapid blinks later and he had his gaze fixed on the very disgruntled female... a puzzled expression lining his features.

"I am aware that I am old," he murmured slowly, his tone otherwise stiff given his difficult mood. "But I am fairly certain that my hearing is in perfect order... Would you care to explain why such a racket is necessary?"

"YOU!" She glares at him, "I hope you hurt yourself falling off that bloody rock of yours. I hope you broke your god damned cowardly legs all over the sand, You, YOU..YOU!" She marches up to him all teeth claws and every single hair on her body upright.

"I had to hear it from my MOTHER, MY MOTHER!" She takes a slow meaningful breath "My mother who thinks YOU aren't good enough any way, My mother who has my god damned fathers ear and YOU didn't have the courage to come and tell me yourself! Do you think, for one moment that I will leave this pride? Do you? I WONT Xenon, I wont leave and if you go you will hurt me so badly I will die from the heart break!"

She frowns at him and hisses "You're leaving????? Were you even going to bother telling ME? Or were you going to just..JUST LEAVE? Hmm? Tell me Xenon?" Her claws seep from her toes the storm cloud raging in her golden eyes. "Well, what do you have to say for yourself?" She snaps her jaw set in a very hard line.

So much for manners. There were no amiable greetings, no requests to make sure he was all right... Instead, there was a rather brutal assault on his ears in relation to something he couldn't quite fathom. It should have come at no surprise that the lion stared at the female incredulously for a while until he had discerned exactly what she was talking about. Fortunately his mind was capable of working such things out rather rapidly and as a consequence, he soon realised that her outburst had something to do with the events from earlier this morning.

Ah, how fond he was of the grapevine. Not.

His incredulous expression quickly transformed into one of irritation, but rather than argue outright with the young lioness he let her say everything she needed to. It was better not to interrupt her when she was in one of these moods, if he did, then it was highly likely he would have to use brute force to avoid injury both to himself and to her. So, it was with a weighted sigh that he held his tongue and allowed her to shriek to the point that his ears were ringing and his head was pounding.

"At what point did I ever declare I had any intention of asking you to leave your home, more importantly, when did I ever imply that I was leaving as well?" he enquired, his jaw line tense as he held back the desire to snap back in just as abrupt a manner. One of them had to be sensible in these moments and given Afina was typically incapable of that, it had to be him. "The last time I checked I had taken my Rites, for all intents and purposes those are an oath and I do not break oaths without significant consideration," he continued.

"Now let me think..." his tone began to deteriorate into a rather sarcastic drawl. "The rumour mill has already gone berserk after I dragged one of the unfortunate council members over the coals for his appalling idea regarding child rearing and you just happened to jump to conclusions without recalling what sort of lion I am."

"Try to remember I'm not an idiot Afina, I know it's difficult for you sometimes but you should know better by now." he pointed out darkly, choosing at the last moment to stay silent about what he wished to say in relation to her mother.

"My Mother said that Quidditch told you to leave if you wanted to and off you went. I wasn't even sure I would find you here on your stupid rock." She hisses. God she hated that rock, why wouldn't it just disintegrate under her glare like she wanted it to.

Afina opened her mouth, closed it again. Taking a deep breath the young lioness glared at the male that was her mate. "You're not leaving?" She raised both brows very, very high, as high as they could possibly go. "You're not leaving at all?" She waited, her tongue sticking out between her lips. She had to bite her tongue to stop herself from continuing her rant at him.

Other things had been said and she had heard most of them but it seemed to her that Xenon had jumped the gun and had shouted at a council member of all people. She felt ashamed but she was also frightened. What would happen if Xenon left? What would happen if he got in trouble? She was scared and the fear was fuelling her stormy rage. "Don't take a sarcastic tone at me Xenon! I know you are not an idiot, neither am I! I thought you had up and left, I thought you had gone again. You didn't even have the thought to come and tell your MATE that you had an argument with one of the council? I had to hear it all from my mother when YOU should have told me yourself." She resists furiously the lip that was dying to pout at her mate.

"Your mother should have kept her mouth shut," Xenon stated in such a flat tone that it was clear Afina's constantly reference to her mother as a reliable source was not going down well. The more she spoke, the more resentful he became of the meddling little b***h that had spawned his mate. He had raised his concerns in good faith and just because the council member had acted swiftly to address them did not mean he wasn't entitled to voice them. Whether Afina had heard the initial announcement in relation to the pride was irrelevant in the grand scheme of things - the realisation that she thought he was foolish enough to run his mouth without consideration however, was.

"If you truly believe your mother over me, if you place all your faith in her then you are a fool," he continued darkly and shook his head. "I have a sense of duty and enough honour to inform you if I decide to make any such decisions, but the fact that I did not inform you should have been enough to confirm that all you had heard was hearsay," he snapped. Rolling his eyes, he pulled himself to his paws and shook off the worst of the sand from around his stomach. Suffice to say that his mate was still very much a child, she may have been an adult in body but she was a complete moron in mind quite often.

"Whether you like it or not I am entitled to my opinions and naive as you might have been to the initial declarations, I was not. My concerns were valid and the responsibility of the council is to heed them," he snapped, bearing down on the female with a considerable lack of patience. "And if those declarations had not changed then I would have been forced to seriously consider my options. That it why I did not speak to you," he snarled, reinforcing his discontent at the manner in which she had jumped to conclusions.

"Once I had made my choice I would have informed you, good, bad or indifferent. Whatever the case might have been I would have told you when I was ready and not when your meddling excuse for a mother deemed I should!" he hissed.

"However if you and the rest of your godforsaken family are absolutely certain that I should already have taken my leave then perhaps I should live up to your collective expectations and make a swift exit. Is that what you really wanted to happen, just so your accursed mother can be vindicated in relation to her accusations?" he enquired sharply.

"You know I don't want you to leave!" She shakes her head "But you left before! It's not an un-warranted worry. I fear every day that you will make your decision and just, go, again." She looks up at him willing back the tears, the fear that she would be left alone that her mother would be right. "I don't listen to her, I know you love me, I know that we are supposed to be together but when she said you were leaving..." She trailed off, her anger bubble was all deflated she was now just upset. "She said you were going to go again. I don't want you to go Xenon."

Looking at her toes the young lioness sniffs once willing the tears to go away. "You still should have told me you had a fight with one of the council. I know you wanted your opinions heard, but, but thats something important, you should have told me you did it." She frowns lifting her head again and glaring at him dangerously she was NOT going to melt in to a puddle of tears and snot! "Don't you trust me enough to tell me when you make a big decision like that? I am your MATE Xenon, you should trust me enough to keep me informed. I shouldn't have to hear it from other sources."

Taking a deep breath she finally lets a pout escape her bottom lip jutting out further than any pouting lip had ever jutted before!.......... "Say you're sorry for leaving me out of the loop! I could have come with you, you should trust me to support you when you go to fight battles with the people in charge."

"I didn't plan to see anyone," he snapped, shattering her misconceptions yet again. She certainly seemed to have a very set view on everything that had happened given she hadn't even been there. In fact, the only individual who had been there had been Quid and the manner in which Xenon and he had conversed was a rather impromptu meeting indeed. Quid had sought a moment of relaxation and Xenon had simply being in a rage of his own - the pair had merely crossed paths, there hadn't been a request of any sort! Ah, but wasn't it entertaining how easily people twisted events to suit themselves, it was another time in which Xenon question why he had even taken this plunge - as much as he doted on his mate, her family despised him.

"If you really must know we met each other on the beach, he interrupted me while I was considering my options and I expressed my views then and there," he continued, continuing in much the same dark and discontented manner as before. If she had assumed she could turn this around to her advantage and make demands of him then she was in for a shock, he knew he was in the right and that her arguments wouldn't actually stand up to him this time round.

"The only decision I made was in the moments I recognised him and stated he was an idiot, I didn't storm into the middle of the bloody pride and declare it for all to hear," he growled. Closing his eyes he sucked in a breath and then heaved a very disgruntled and heavy sigh, if there was one thing Afina was a master at, it was giving him a mammoth of a headache. "And given the entire thing only happened an hour or so ago, I believe I am entitled to continue with my own musings until I decide upon my own personal decisions," he pointed out.

"This has nothing to do with you, it wouldn't have had anything to do with you until I had figured out what my stance on your Queen's new policies were. When, and only when I had made that decision would I have spoken to you about it because then it would have been your concern and you would have been entitled to the information!" he snapped.

"So I will not apologise, especially to one who was so inclined to believe hearsay and rumour as opposed to keeping a level head and waiting to hear my side of the story, if there was even a story to be had."

Afina growled quietly, why was he so bloody stubborn? He never seemed to care that she was upset, that she might want a hug, or even just a moments closeness, even just the phrase 'i'm not leaving' would have done for ehr but he was so stubborn.

"Why can't you for once just do as I ask? Why can't you just tell me straight that you are not leaving instead of speaking to me like a little kid? You don't even know how frightening it is that you might leave!" She frowns a deep furrowing frown and growls at him.

"What if I am pregnant already and you just, up and leave?" She pouts a little, she didn't know, he didn't know, her mother had told her you couldn't tell right away. Would he just leave? It frightened her all the way to the core thinking that he might go and if she was pregnant, she would be shamed, she would be in the same boat as that other female, pregnant no male to look after her. She was so very afraid of that happening.

"At least tell me you are staying, please?" She whispers looking at her toes, taking deep breaths to will away the tear she wanted to shed now all of her anger had dissipated in to despair. She so wanted him just to come close and hold her tightly but he was being an a**, she hated how standoffish he was at times like this, she just wanted him to tell her that everything was alright.

"I already said more than once that I was not leaving!" Xenon roared, his voice rippling through the air like a tidal wave towards her. In the silence of their location, it was considerably louder than usual and echoed across the expanse quite nicely. Regardless, by now the lion really had lost his patience and Afina's insistance that she be the victim and be pitied had really hit a nerve. He hadn't been inconsiderate towards her in the slightest, he had simply sat on his rock and pondered his own options. Truth be told it was Afina who was at fault - she had been the one who had followed the grapevine, had believed her mother over him and demonstrated a significant lack of trust. It left a gaping hole in the middle of their relationship that Xenon was not prepared to overlook.

...If she couldn't trust him, then what was the point?

"If you wish to be treated like an adult then act like one," he snapped and shook his head. "Instead of jumping when your mother tells you to, think with your own mind," he continued and closed his eyes. Sucking in a breath, Xenon attempted to regather his composure but no matter how long he counted, it just wasn't working. The fact of the matter was that the mate he had chosen didn't trust him, she was so caught up in her own idealistic world that she painted false pictures and leapt to conclusions - she would sooner listen to gossip over facts and this left him as the loser from the get go. Nevermind doing as he was told, he had always been relatively laid back...by the sounds of it she wanted him to be completely subservient.

"Or at least I'm not leaving these lands," he said finally and opened his eyes, his brain having finally caught up with him. "However I am leaving you," he stated flatly and backed away. "While you remain tied to your mother's apron strings and ruled by gossip, I have no place in your life," he pointed out darkly and turned on his heel. "If you're pregnant then I'll be there, as is fitting of any honourable male, but do not take me for a mate."

"Matehood is about trust, of which you have none... Perhaps if the fates are favourable then you will not be graced with my children and will be free to pursue another. Or perhaps more appropriately, your parents will find someone they approve of," he continued. "Regardless I would suggest you consider exactly what you have said and done. Maybe then you'll realise that I was never the villain in this tale," he finished and stalked away.

She was going to chase after him, she was going to stomp and cry until he did as she said. She was going to swear at him and tear him that new one she had promised she would. Instead she snorts and turns away from him.

"What ever Xenon, maybe it's MY turn to walk away!" She calls back, he was always like this, he turned everything on her, he didn't even try to understand what she was afraid of. He didn't even think that he had left before, he didn't care that she trusted her mother, which was something that children did.

He had been raised a certain way and she had been raised a certain way, to trust her family. She trusted Xenon but there was the odd look he had that she always thought meant he would just wander off with the herds again. Well what ever, she didn't need him if he was going to be without any sort of compassion for her worries.
