Homework or saving the world, homework or saving the world. The same decision as last night, and the night before. Of course, she usually managed to get both done, the cushioned homework supplied for the delicate young rich girls certainly wasn't a challenge to a bright thing like herself. But lately, with the demands from her 'night job' getting more intense, she was starting to have to really choose. Her two lives were not seamlessly meshing together, the were pulling farther and farther apart. It was coming to the point where she would have to make a decision. How far would she go down the rabbit hole? How much of her life would she give? Where would she draw the line between her civilian life and her duties to the Negaverse? She could feel the time pulling closer when she'd have to decide. And she could feel the direction she was already sliding towards.
She hadn't really had a chance, it wasn't really fair. Arriving new in the city, alone and with no one to tie her down, she had started out energetically enough. She had made a few 'friends', girls in class who she could place, familiar faces to wave to in the halls and chat with at lunch. Then she had become Sugilite. Maybe if she had known her friends better, if she had bothered to build more than superficial relationships, she'd have put more effort into her everyday life. Sure she had been disillusioned by Crystal Academy, and it was no longer the glittering castle in the sky that she had dreamed of. Now, the dark spires of the great castle in the rift filled her sleep.
Bebe, as she was, was slowly fading away, and Sugilite was growing. She could feel it now, all the anger and malicious cruelty that she had worked so hard to lock away deep in her mind. Her temper bubbled, and she had to hide her fists behind her back as they clenched in anger while her face smiled. It had been easier and easier to tuck away the part of herself that wanted to smash people's faces into a wall when she hadn't been able to. Now she could, and it was easy. When you were fighting a war, people didn't question if you dug the knife in deep and twisted. Sugilite could twist all she wanted. It was freedom, it was bliss, it was power.
Bebe, in contrast, could keep going to school, working hard to keep up her scholarship, go to uni for something, preferably prestigious and high paying, then go out into the working world and what? Spend the rest of her life toiling under some dull little person in a dull little building? Become an actress and have to spend her days selling herself out, body and soul, in the trashiest industry possible? Or marry her way to riches and power. She supposed that would be her best bet, but the thought of having to become intimate with some man, to still in a way sell her body and soul, revolted her to her core. No, Bebe had no future. There was no point in trying to put anything into Bebe anymore.
Suddenly, Sugilite realized she had made her decision. Not homework, and never again.
