The lioness was distracted this morning... It wasn't like her to be so engrossed in an activity that she forgot herself, but today was special. For the last three days she had been tracking a particularly elusive creature, a rat that had managed to evade capture not once, but multiple times. In a manner of speaking she really should have applauded it's houdini-like qualities but when push came to shove, the female was hungry and it was the only thing she was capable of felling.

Suffice to say that for the petite lioness, rabbits were about the absolute height of her hunting capabilities. She'd never been taught how to hunt for larger preybeasts and as a consequence, she couldn't afford to be fussy. The rat was on her meal card and rather than let it escape, hunger drove her to pursue it in a much more merciless manner than she was accustomed to.

Consequently, she had soon crossed into lands that were no longer familiar to her. Her paws graced the grass of the Ela'wadiyi Lands and her nose snuffled back and forth through the tender soils. Determined to locate her quarry, she didn't even look up as she passed through and remained completely oblivious to her accidental trespass. Truth be told, she was unlikely to realise her folly until someone disrupted her concentration - she was simply too absorbed in her efforts to take notice right now!

Not far from where the determined lioness was attempting to track down her elusive target, Mzimu was slowly walking along. Despite being a member of the Wolf Clan, one of the bigger Clans of the Ela'wadiyi, the old lion had found himself spending a lot of time on his own lately. Although he cared for all of his fellow Pride members, that he had come to know since returning to the Lands, he missed the two friends that he had left by the sea. Their company in particular really warmed his old heart, and had he known how much he would miss them, he wondered if he would ever have come here in the first place.

He quickly decided that yes, he would've come here no matter what. This was the place he belonged, and he knew that Zizima and Isilahi belonged by the sea. A soft smile touched his maw as he considered this. Then suddenly, his nose caught an unfamiliar scent. Being born blind, he had always relied heavily on his sense of smell and his hearing, so more often than not he would be one of the first to know if someone (or something) new was in the area.

Frowning slightly, he stopped. He wasn't completely sure from where or who the scent was coming from. He took another sniff of the air, and then faced the direction in which believed the scent was coming from. Of course he know that they would see him before he could ever see them, but he wasn't overly worried. Although he had travelled some distance from the main area that his Clanm inhabited, he knew he was still in Ela'wadiyi territory.

You would have thought that Bahati would have seen the lion before he saw her. Truth be told her vision was otherwise perfect, but she was so engrossed within her task that she appeared to be blinkered. In the grand scheme of things, her gaze was trained firmly on the ground and her snout was firmly pressed to the soil. To any hunter or huntress observing the entire event, she would have been facepaw worthy and utterly comedic in terms of her method, but the lioness simply knew no different...this was how she hunted and it suited her just fine.

Consequently, the blind lion was actually the more observant of the pair as the petite feline continued her hunt. She wandered ever closer, bridging the distance between herself and Mzimu. Step by step, she drew ever nearer collision and sure enough, within moments she felt her forehead bump against something warm. It was fortunate that she hadn't going at any quick pace, but the small 'nudge' as her nose pressed against the warm flesh was enough to startle her back to the present.

Shattering her concentration, the tiny lioness tumbled backwards with a squeal.

With her tail between her legs, she ducked low in the most protective pose she could manage. It was only after a series of blinks that she recovered and took the opportuntiy to observe what she'd hit. Words could not describe how concerned she soon became at the realisation that she'd hit a lion and a foreign one at that - aha, but it appeared she had entered claimed territory!

"I'm sorry," she croaked softly. "So sorry, I didn't see you!"

The scent was definately one that he did not recognise, and he had a terrific memory. His ears rolled forward as he then attempted to listen out for the unknown visitor. When he really focused on it, he could hear just about anything within a reasonable distance. Right now, he could hear lots of sniffing and snorting, and very quick footsteps. It didn't take long for him to realise that they were heading in his direction. Surely whoever it was would make theirselves known any minute now? There was no point in him calling out, as he was so very sure that he just couldn't be that difficult to spot in such a wide open area.

The call never came though, and the footsteps continued to get closer and closer until finally, someone (somehow) managed to bump into him! Mzimu could hardly believe it. It was almost amusing to him, in a weird sort of way. He quickly brushed that off though, as the seriousness of the situation suddenly dawned on him. Was this a friend or a foe?

From the quick and timid apology that followed, he could only assume it was a friend. It was much harder for Mzimu to judge others, as he had very little to go on other than what they told him. At least that meant that he very rarely pre-judged anyone unfairly. "That's quite alright." He said finally, a small smile once again returning to his face. "I'm sure that you didn't mean it. Although, I'm not quite sure how you didn't see me."

"Well..." she murmured hesitantly, still maintaining her distance. While he seemed friendly, there was something a little off about him - usually if she was on a collision course she was either yelled at, chased away, or they moved away. For one reason or another, this male had allowed her to bump into him and that was just strange. Keeping this in mind, there were quite a few things in life that left Bahati in an unsettled state and the unknown was one of those - anything that wasn't familiar made her skiddish, anything that didn't conform was liable to spook her.

"I wasn't really looking for you...?" she replied in an uncertain manner, her ears still pinned to the back of her head and tail still firmly between her legs. "I mean, I was looking for something else and it's small so I had to look at the ground and..." she trailed off into silence and shook her head, she'd never been the best at explaining this sort of thing, usually they just shooed her away.

"Well you're not tiny enough for me to see when I'm staring at the ground so I just walked into you," she offered, her tone indicating that she felt rather deflated and embarassed by the entire affair. What made the entire situation worse was the fact that she was clearly not in the roguelands anymore, the landscape had changed, the sounds were different and even the smell - well, suffice to say that it was a wonder she had failed to noticed the shift in scenary.

There was another momentary pause.

"...Where am I?" she asked at last, her expression twisting into one of confusion as she perhaps confirmed Mzimu's suspicions, she was not from around here.

(( o.o I know why everyone does this Quote thing now. It's to inform the other person of a tag! Genius! ))

Mzimu listened carefully to the female's voice, then shifted his body so that he was facing her. Because he couldn't see her though, his gaze remained fixed on the horizon, as always. He could tell by her tone of voice that she was very sorry, and somewhat embarassed, by what had happened. Her explaination for bumping into him actually really amused him, but he thought it best not to let on to that fact, as she may feel even worse if he did.

"Ah, so you were concentrating?" He finally offered, a small smile touching his face as he did so. He wondered what it was that she had been tracking. Nothing too important he hoped, as she was probably very unlikely to find it at this point. When she asked about where she was, Mzimu lifted a paw up, as if he was presenting the Lands to her. "You are in the lands of the Ela'wadiyi Pride." He knew it could sometimes be concerning to step on to claimed territory, so he was quick to reassure her. "Don't worry, we are not a Pride that punishes those who accidently pass into our land. In fact, if you wish to pass through, I could happily escort you."

After answering the lioness' question, the old lion had a question of his own. "What is it that you were looking for, if you don't mind me asking?" He was hoping that he could be of some help, although he wasn't sure if he could be.

((Lol yeah I use it as a much easier way to communicate tags than a massive tag list spammed in thread.))

That was certainly a very diplomatic way of putting it - she certainly had been concentrating on her hunt. However, the likelihood of her succeeding in this hunt was now slim to none as the rat had now been granted enough time to not only run, but bury itself deep into the ground. For the hungry lioness, this was a rather depressing revelation, particularly when it would take her a considerable amount of time to find something of the right size. Add this knowledge to the fact that she would have to navigate her way out of these unfamiliar lands again and she was adding quite a few hours, if not days, onto her hunt. All in all, she was feeling considerably deflated by the news.

"Yes, I suppose you could put it that way," she murmured agreeably and shook her head. She adjusted her weight, shifting her leg into a more comfortable position and watched as the lion turned his head. He seemed to have finally registered where she was, slow as he might have been, he was now looking at her like a normal lion would. Well, he appeared to be, until she noticed that he wasn't so much looking at her, as he was looking over her shoulder. With a slight element of paranoia, the lioness also took a split second to look over her shoulder just in case anyone else was creeping up behind her - finding nothing, she was left a touch puzzled... and they said she was the weird one.

...Unless he was waiting for someone?

Alas, there was no reason to be rude and in order to preserve her own wellbeing, she thought it would probably be best to respond to him in an appropriate manner. "Well, I'm glad that you won't tug my tail off just because I missed a sign post," she conceded and released a soft sigh. She was genuine in this statement as well, even if she knew that she would probably outstay her welcome very quickly. They may not have attacked travellers immediately, but there was bound to be some sort of time limit in place for that sort of thing, it seemed sensible.

"Ah but um..." she cleared her throat uncertainly and cast her gaze to the side, where he might have expected something normal like a warthog or a hare, he probably wasn't expecting this answer, after all, she was no cub! "I was chasing a rat." she confessed.

Another thing that Mzimu could tell by the female's tone of voice was that she seemed to lack quite a bit of confidence. Despite his attempt to reassure her, she still sounded as if she was going to be set upon at any moment, which he didn't quite understand. At the mention of 'tugging her tail off', the old lion shook his head heavily. "You won't find any tugging of tails here." He chuckled. "Well, maybe from the cubs, but they know better than to disrespect their elders in such a way." As he said that, his tail flicked from left to right. "Besides, they would have a hard time catching my tail, even if they tried. I'm sure the same could be said for you."

When the lioness admitted that she had been chasing a rat, he raised a brow. Why on Earth would she be chasing a rat? It wasn't really any of his business though, so he decided not to pry. He had been hoping that it was something that he could help with, but chasing a rat seemed like an impossible task, even for someone as determined as him. "Well, as I said, no harm done."

After a little while, Mzimu flopped carefully into a sitting position. He then realised that he still had yet to introduce himself. "Hmph, where are my manners?" He bowed his head respectfully. "My name is Mzimu. Pleased to me you."

Now that Mzimu had made reference to his tail, there was something slightly hypnotic about it. Bahati had lapse into silence as she watched the limb flick side to side at various intervals. For all intents and purposes it was similar to how a bunny moved, it peeked out of its hole one moment and then disappeared the next, only to come back to check if the coast was clear a few moments after. Adult she might have been, but even she was tempted to creep forward and bat at it, or at least attempt to.

"Mmmm - what?" She snapped back to reality with a start and had the decency to look sheepish whenever it became apparent that he had been speaking again. She hadn't caught all of it, but fortunately for Bahati it appeared that she'd subconciously picked up some of it. "Oh," she murmured after her brain had caught up with everything he had said up until this point. "Well...My mother called be Bahati so, I suppose that's what everyone else can call me too, no?"

"...And why would your tail be difficult to catch? It's moving slower than a bunny does," she observed, perhaps a touch more forward than she was generally known for.

Mzimu raised a brow, as it sounded as though the lioness' attention had drifted off momentarily. He didn't draw attention to it though, as that would be quite rude of him. She was probably still looking around, pondering how she had let herself travel all this way whilst chasing a rat.

"Bahati." He repeated with a nod. "Your mother gifted you with a lovely name." Before he could say anything else, she questioned the speed of his tail. He tilted his head slightly, as to say that he was confused by what she said would be quite an understatement. "Well...they're just cubs. I suppose if an adult tried to grab my tail..." He trailed off, as the very thought of such a think seemed too foolish to even talk about. "Ahem, well, lets just say that cubs are slower than bunnies."

"Yes, she did," Bahati replied quietly, conceding that her mother had indeed provided her with a very nice name indeed. She rarely had the opportunity to use it, after all, she often fled from social interaction in most cases. However, when push came to shove the syllables really did roll off the tongue, she couldn't complain about what he mother had blessed her with... even if she could never express that appreciation face to face. It would be awkward to do so, probably a little too awkward.

A period of silence followed, she wasn't terribly good at this conversation thing.

"I could catch your tail," she mumbled before she could stop herself and then promptly gulped. Her cheeks flushed and she could feel the heat rising but unfortunately there was very little she could do to recover. "I - I mean..." she began and then shook her head. "It moves slower than a rat so it would be far easier to catch," she explained.

"Oi... I'll just stop talking now. Speaking of which... did you actually see where that rat went, I sort of...need it," she finished mournfully.

Mzimu chuckled, as he appreciated the female's matter-of-fact attitude. It was very charming, although he worried that some may take her the wrong way because of it. When she went quiet, he wondered if she was OK. He didn't sense any awkwardness between them, so he just assumed that she was quite shy around strangers, which was fair enough.

When she finally spoke, Mzimu blinked a few times. She could...catch his tail because it was slower than a rat? It was a very strange thing to admit to, especially to someone who she had only just met. Still, he knew that she hadn't met it as an insult, so he chose to let it go. If a cub had said that to him, they would get a swift cuff around the ear.

When he was asked about the rat's whereabouts, he shook his head. "I'm afraid not my dear." He paused before he finished, as he wasn't quite sure how this rather quirky female would take it. "I'm blind. I can't see anything." He hoped that this didn't freak her out too much, as he didn't want her to go running off into the Lands all by herself.

[[Dear god, I thought I'd replied to this! D8 I'm so behind! /flail]]

Awkwardness was certainly on the cards for the small lioness as social encounters had never been her forte. Even if Mzimu was not the tallest lion she had ever met, he was still quite a bit bigger than her and any slip up could be potentially dangerous. That being said, he'd given her no cause for immediate concern but this still didn't mean that she could be forward...truth be told, being 'forward' was a rarity for her as was! Only the gods knew what had come over her in the moments she had blurted that nonsense out.

"Oh, well..." she sucked in a small breath and shook her head, a touch deflated by the news that her quarry was gone forever. It would be a long time before she found anything the right size to hunt again. "That's a shame," she concluded softly. It was then that she blinked as the rest of his words sunk in and she shifted her gaze towards him. Expression somewhat incredulous, she inspected him much more closely...only to discover that she couldn't see anything wrong with him.

His eyes seemed fine.

How couldn't he see, and if he couldn't see, then how did he even live?

"What do you mean you can't see?" she chirped in confusion and furrowed her brow. "If you can't see then how to you eat or drink, wouldn't everything be able to hide from you...?"

(( LOL, no worries. You still need to tag Neoni family RP as well. ))

Mzimu was somewhat relieved that the lioness seemed more curious about his blindness than frightened by it. He had encountered many over the years who had immediatly assumed that his condition was contagious, which caused them to run away without a second thought.

"I was born blind, so although I needed a lot of help to learn in the beginning, it simply meant that I had to rely more heavily on my other senses." He frowned lightly. "I never wished to be a burden to anyone, so it was important for me to become independant as soon as possible. It wasn't easy to begin with, and although I still have my difficulties, I've managed to make it this far in life mostly on my own."

Mzimu paused as he waited for Bahati's response. One thing he had never appreciated was sympathy, so he hoped that that wasn't something that was going to follow.
