Hello fellow guildies. This is the master of the Dark type, Topher Skelver, bringing you our 50th ever Pokemon of the Week. And thanks to a complicated decision making process involving googling a random Pokemon generator, this week's Pokemon is the much ignored Hypno.
I'll start by saying that I've been a fan of Hypno for awhile; as a Pokemon, not as a battler. Hypno is known to reside away from humans and on less traveled roads. If anyone comes by, the Hypno will hypnotize it and presumably eat its dreams. It carries around a pendulum, the item it uses to hypnotize victims, everywhere it goes. Hypno hypnotizes its victims by rocking its pendulum back and forth steadily, with the arcing movement and glitter of the pendulum lulling the victim to sleep, even if they just woke up. Hypno’s Hypnosis technique is so effective, it can induce sleep in only three seconds, although the longer it swings its pendulum, the longer the effects of Hypnosis will last. Since eye contact is required for Hypno’s Hypnosis technique to work, the effect is negated if the victim quickly closes its eyes. While it waits for victims, it polishes its pendulum using its mane.
Okay, to look at Hypno's stats.
HP 85

Def 70

SpD 115
Spe 67
Not very impressive, a little below average everywhere. EXCEPT, for special defense. So it will be filling very specific roles in battle, mostly as support. Lets look at some of the potential uses for our hypnotizing buddy.
First, I'd like to start by saying that in almost every situation, Insomnia is Hypno's best ability. The others are good, but not as good as the satisfaction of switching into an opponent's useless hypnosis.

Hypnosis & Dream Eater - The most obvious move combo for this Pokemon. It's in the Pokemon's very nature to do this. So it makes perfect sense to use this in battle, right? Wrong. In fact, this is an extremely ineffective combo in competitive play. All your opponent has to do in order to screw you over...is switch Pokemon.
Thunder Wave - In my opinion, far more useful than Hypno's signature Hypnosis. Very debilitating, and not restricted like sleep.
Protect & Wish - Good seperate, amazing together. Definately for a support Pokemon like Hypno. With careful planning and prediction, this can be an amazing asset to your team.
Nasty Plot & Psychic/Baton Pass - If you either want Hypno to pack a punch, or build up for another Pokemon to attack; Nasty Plot is a good choice.
Reflect - Hypno's high special defense encourages defensive and support play. To bad his physical defense leaves something to be desired. This move remedies that. It's also worth noting that Hypno can be used to run a dual screen support set.
And there you have a bit of my insight on Hypno. One thing I would like to point out is that this Pokemon is incredibly diverse as far as supporters go. You'd do well to research all of it's potential and see how it would best help your team before you add one into the fold. So until next time, keep battling, and show the Hypnosis Pokemon some love.
