Character Name: Jordan Miller
Minis Account Name: prolixity
Year, Race - Subspecie: Sun Hunter
Natural Ability/Abilities: Weapon ability: Blaze of Fury - charged attack: the hammer's head bursts into flame

Character Name: Petra Walker
Minis Account Name: Nata
Year, Race - Subspecie: Moon Hunter - Weapon: Demon
Natural Ability/Abilities: Upon being charged with FEAR, Cain summons a smokey darkness that surrounds the individual, lending itself to the psychological feeling of being suffocated in darkness, as well as a rising panic of being completely unable to see anything around them.

Character Name: Madison McKenzie
Minis Account Name: Sosiqui
Year, Race - Subspecie: Life Hunter
Natural Ability/Abilities: Charged Attack - Glorious Bite-of-the-Serpent Strike!
... It's probably best to just call it Serpent Strike. Normally, Madison can wield a maximum of two blades at any given time; Kouki's charged attack allows all four blades to be used simultaneously.

Serpent Strike is a ranged attack. When Kouki is charged, Madison can draw all four blades and release them into the air. Madison does not have to move from her initial position when the charged attack activates - the blades will fly outwards of their own accord, cutting at the target in perfect unison. Each blade can strike the target once, a more powerful blow than Madison's normal attacks.

Once the attack ends the blades return to their scabbards (or to Madison's hands, if she wants them there).

Character Name: Ennéa Petrakis
Minis Account Name: Frigoris
Year, Race - Subspecie: Death Hunter
Natural Ability/Abilities: Sonic Blast - When Baraz is charged, Ennéa can twirl and create a whirlwind gust around her for several paces. Damage is moderate (less than Ennéa's normal attack) but Sonic Blast hits all enemies in her AoE and has the potential to disorient/confuse her opponents. It's a good distraction and crowd control attack.

Character Name: Robert Morris
Minis Account Name: Alania
Year, Race - Subspecie: Life Hunter
Natural Ability/Abilities: When fully charged, Robert twirls the batleth, and in Jezebel's confusion she lets out a blinding light and deafening scream, disorienting the opponents senses so they are temporarily easy prey for his attack.

It occurs to the Hunters, after a few steps forward, that they were walking down a narrow hallway, illuminated by the barest of lights. At the very end of the hallway stood a pair of doors, one red, one green, each with a statue in front of them.

“We are the guardians of the way onward.” Something spoke, and it took a moment for the group to realize that one of the two statues was speaking.

Silence again, then the one on the left speaks, “Both of these doors lead somewhere.”

“But it all depends on what you’re looking for,” the statue on the right adds, “If it is the way forward -”

“Oh! I know that one!” The one on the left interrupts. “It’s behind my door!”

The one on the right shakes its head. “No, it isn’t. You just want them to go through your door for your own amusement.”

“I am not!” The left statue retorts, “I’m only trying to help! You’re the one who is insisting on confusing them! Besides,” the statue turns towards the group. “Why don’t you lot pick?”

“It is your decision, after all,” the right statue adds with a nod. “Though you may wish to discuss it amongst yourselves; you must agree on one door, and must go through that door and only that door.”

“And we can’t tell you what’s behind the doors, either,” the statue on the left chimes in. “So don’t get any ideas! Just let us know which door you pick. And you can’t ask us any questions, either.”

The right statue says nothing, and watches the group expectantly.

THE OOC

You may only pick ONE door, and everyone MUST go through that door (RED OR GREEN), feel free to ICly talk it out and then have a representative come to the statues with a choice.

Jordan glanced over his shoulder to be sure the rest of his team was with him. He wasn't sure what he could do about it if they were missing anyone - but it seemed that everyone had come through all right. One less worry. He came to a stop in front of the two statues, listening to their bickering with a faint frown. No questions, huh?

He put on an expression of vague contempt and stared at the statues a moment longer. Then he turned back to his team. "I'll bet those two don't even know which door's the way forward," he said, loudly and dismissively. Play along, guys, he thought, hoping that the others would pick up on what he was trying to do.

Think those things are stupid enough to fall for that? Ferros asked.

Can't hurt to try, Jordan thought back.

Ennéa arrived and breathed a small sigh a relief when no slavering monsters waiting to attack were immediately visible. She had been a little worried about that.

She caught sight of Jordan and eagerly trotted up to him but her footsteps slowed when the two statues started talking. She looked from one to the other and then back again before looking up to Jordan. "Um..." she said, a little uncertainly.

The older hunter didn't seem too impressed by the talking statues. Ennéa wasn't quite sure why but maybe Jordan knew the answer and it was obvious to everyone but her.

Beats me, I don't know either. Baraz chimed in. Though it's 50/50 either way, I say just choose one and deal with whatever's on the other side. I could use a workout.

"Shush!" Ennéa hissed at him. Whatever Jordan was doing she trusted her boss. She held her tongue and tried her best to look disdainful.

Madison wasn't sure whether she should start out by lecturing Ennea about safe weapons handling or not, especially since she had little idea what to do with her own swords... well, either way, it probably wasn't a good time for that. She pushed a stray strand of hair behind one ear and hurried to join the others, her heels clacking on the floor with every step.

This place was... creepy. Strange. Even moreso, since she was here in her own body and not a golem. If she got hurt here, not only would it hurt, but there would be deeper consequences. Her grip on one sword hilt tightened. She watched the statues with deep suspicion as they spoke... then looked totally confused afterwards. "Wait, so they don't even get it? How do they expect us to?" she complained. "That's, like, so unfair!"

She was playing right into Jordan's hands, as it happened. Not that she was aware of that.

Robert was magically clueless. He looked at the two doors, trying to make a decision based on.. absolutely nothing relevent. When Jordan called the statues out on it, Robert's reaction would work in his favor - though, like Madison, it wouldn't be on purpose.

"DAHAHA. Stupid talking statues, you got called out. CALLED OUT, BROSKIES."

Still, he was trying to choose one of his own. He liked blue.. but Phoenix was red and orange. So that meant it was probably better.. right?

Ah, ******** it. He'd go through whatever door Jordan told him to go through.

Unfortunately the statues were not very smart. Or perhaps they had been granted intellect that unfortunately was better served together, and not divided into two.

Upon hearing Jordan's words, the status on the left piped up suddenly. "I bet you it's my door that you're talking about ha-ha! I am always right!"

"No, you're left, I am right." The other statue argued rather heatedly.

"Excuse me. Who died and left you boss? Last time I checked I am right, and I never lie."

"All statues are liars." The one on the right - the actual right - muttered, crossing his arms. "Just let them choose already, I don't have all day."

It sounded like the classic door puzzle, but what the statue on the right had just said - paradox, either way you cut it. Which meant that it couldn't be the puzzle he was thinking of. If the one on the left was a literalist, with its use of "left" and "right" -

You're overthinking it, Ferros grumbled. It's trying to confuse you.

Jordan blinked. He'd been about to try to puzzle through a logical paradox. Good way to confuse himself. Make it simpler - one had proposed a paradox, which meant its information couldn't be trusted. Did that mean that the other one was accurate? No way to know, but if he spent more time trying to figure out the statues' riddling conversation, they'd only be stuck here longer.

"The red door," he said aloud, then looked first to Petra. "What do you think?"

It seems like a puzzle, yet... Kouki sounded highly skeptical. Madison could feel the weapon thinking, distantly - like the faint slide of scales against stone, a hush that she couldn't quite turn into anything concrete. It was kind of annoying, actually.

She snapped her focus outward, glared at the statues again, then frowned. "When they talk about 'right', do they mean our right or, um, their own right? Since they're facing us and stuff?"

"I think that if all statues are liars, I'm not keen on either door."

Petra had followed the others in complete silence as they'd suddenly appeared from the grassy area to the dark narrow hallway. Which seemed appropriate -- the littlest scuffle of feet echoed off the walls that felt remarkably like they were closing in, the barest of light letting them know where to put their feet. It didn't quite seem the place to have a conversation, much less laugh or crack jokes. So when they had come to the end where the statues addressed them, the sound of their voices (distinctly different, although she couldn't tell which voice could be attributed to which statue,) sounded strange and a little alien, echoing slightly with the distance. As Jordan spoke up, she narrowed her eyes just slightly at the guardian's responses, looking between them with an unreadable expression.

"Their first statement was 'Both of these doors lead somewhere,'"Petra continued after a breath, flicking her eyes from where she'd been staring at the statues to the boss of the Phoenixes, "I'm not sure either do."

'If either is telling the truth, it's the one on the right -- you'll notice he doesn't always agree with that on the left.'

Cain's voice had became far more familiar, despite how short a time he had belonged to her. A deep darkness in the back of her mind, his cynical voice didn't resonate as a real one would in the confined space, as if spoken directly into her ear, only closer. But despite the cold detached feeling usually attributed to his voice, there was a certain disdain now, as if the statue's idiocy particularly insulted him. Perhaps it was for this reason that he spoke up now, confirming what Petra had already been thinking. Whatever reason, she listened to what he had to say now -- Jordan's hint had not gone unnoticed, and time was of the essence.

"I wonder if it's really true that we can't ask questions," She addressed the statue on the right, careful not to ask one, lest something unfortunate happen if they do.

"OH. OH. I KNOW. Let me punch them both in the face. The one that screams loudest is the one telling the truth."

Brilliant plan was brilliant.

"Oh, oh, oh pick me pick me!" The statue on the left was more than thrilled to shout as high as his not-quite-existing lungs would allow it to at Robert's prompting. The one on the right simply sighed and rubbed its rather prominently carved forehead. It turned back to the group in front of them.

"Let's put it this way, we may be guides, but we are only temporary. If you do not choose an option soon, you'll find that you will have no option at all."

"That means you'll be stuck here-" Right door statue added in.

"Forever." Left statue continued. "So, what will it be?"

Jordan didn't quite manage to suppress a smile. "Much as I like your solution, Robert, I think we're just going to have to make an educated guess. And I'd rather move forward than wait to see if we really will be stuck. So - " he paused, debated for an instant, and chose. "I'd say left. Any objections?"

The door on the (actual) left beamed, the other simply glowered with their equally prominent eyebrows as the green door opened behind them.

Without another word, both statues faded out of existence, leaving only a single door open, waiting. It was now or never.

"No objection from me, boss!" Robert announced, though he had been just about to make a different suggestion. "I would have rammed through the middle if you'd okay'd it. But looks like like we don't have to worry about it. Let's go!"

Robert was more than happy to take that first step in, in case it was the wrong door. He could take whatever this place had to give.
