User Image Pinakip had just finished bathing her second son and was settling in for his bedtime story (otherwise known as a sermon about his grandfather's god-ness or something) when Kojo couldn't take it any longer. He wanted to explore, he wanted to play, he wanted to do anything as long as it didn't involve listening to his mother's long winded lectures. "Look Mom!" He said enthusiastically, "Is that Grandfather?" He pointed off in the opposite direction with his nose. Pinakip naturally whipped around to search the gathering shadows (more critters were out in the daytime to preach to) for her father's dark plum pelt and the slight glitter of his jewelry.

Kojo took his opportunity and pelted away. He was the wind! He was freeee! He was getting out of here! He managed to cover some ground and managed to lose himself in the scrub brush. However his headlong dash was brought to a sudden stop when he ran smack into the haunches of another hyena female.

User Image Gloxinia hadn't intended to stay so close to the borders of a foreign pack, but circumstances had led to her continued presence. The aforementioned circumstances were quite simple really, in the sense that the quarry she'd been hunting had fled in this general direction and was now hiding deep in the bushes, so far in that her paws couldn't reach. It was really quite frustrating, but neither her quarry nor she had left and as such a stand-off had begun. She was hungry and as result, the hyena had absolutely no intention of giving up.

Alas, fate did not smile on her today as her concentration was disrupted - no sooner had she settled into a comfortable position than she felt the foreign 'thump' of flesh on flesh. Her flesh to be exact, as something small and fluffy collided with her rear end and caused the hairs on the back of her neck to stand on end. Fortunately it wasn't so surprising as to cause a yelp but it was enough for her to suck in a breath and trot forward a few steps. It was at this point that she turned round to see who it was... It was also at this point that her quarry decided to bolt.

Unaware of this for the time being, the hyena fixed her gaze upon Kojo and blinked a number of times, rather startled by what she happened to see. It'd been quite some time since she'd seen a puppy.

"Oooh aren't you tiny," she observed with a bemused coo.

Kojo pouted. Of course he was tiny! He was only a pup! But he was going to grow and he'd be big and strong like how Mommy described Daddy (Not Granddad). He peered up at her with his pout and prepared to tell her just that until he suddenly remembered that he was running away from godly lectures...and bedtime. "Hide me!" He yelped in pure puppy panic.

He'd looked so prepared to fire a retort her way and then he suddenly changed his mind, or at least this was how it seemed to Gloxinia as she regarded the puppy in an incredulous fashion. His demands came so quickly though, that she was obedient in his request and leant down, picked him up by the scruff of the neck and promptly deposited him in the bush beside her - it was probably one of the most uncreative hiding spots but at least it was a start, right?

"...What are we hiding from?" she asked in a hushed voice, flicking her ears towards the bush. Casting a sidelong glance in the pup's direction, she shook her head and soon began to look from left to right. Perhaps she was blind, but she definitely couldn't see anything that was regarded as potentially dangerous...

"My Mother." The little guy said in a voice usually reserved for ghost tales. "It's my bedtime!" The horrified voice continued. "Which means I get a lecture on how my Grandfather's a god and how I should be really good and how I need to be an example and how we're so blessed to be his projeny or whatever. I hate bed time. Those lectures are the worst!" His puppy glare was downright baleful. He plopped his behind down while in the bush and his mulish look said he was going nowhere.

Gloxi was an individual who rather enjoyed long naps, in fact, she would have been so bold as to claim she embraced every opportunity to drift off into a dream world and zone out. Thus, the concept of bedtime being a 'horrific' experience by any stretch was a little bit baffling. Unsurprisingly, this confusion had spread to her facial features and she regarded the pup quizzically as he continued to explain his reasoning for such behaviour. All in all, it sounded a little bit far fetched to the hyena who had never encountered a deity of any kind.

...To her, they were myths.

"Well, doesn't she tell any exciting tales about his exploits?" she asked finally, lowering her head to peer into the bush with a wry smile. "I know how much lectures suck but maybe if she was prompted she might tell a more awesome story or something?" she continued. It was a stab in the dark, but stranger things had happened.
