Group 16
The Magic Busters

(all of your full names don't fit in the subject, sorry Tset heart )

Quote:
Character Name: Colette
Minis Account Name: S a l l y S h e e p
Year, Race - Subspecies: Y2, Reaper - Grim Reaper
Natural Ability/Abilities:
Shadow shift: For a few crucial seconds, grim reapers can shift into a shadowy, wispy, intangible substance. They cannot sadly, pass through walls this way.
Corridor of Shadows: Grim Reapers may conjure and dismiss a gateway of shadows for travel to locations within sight, no farther than 100 yards at once. It's possible to take a companion or object through so long as he/she/it somehow remains directly connected to the Grim Reaper and isn't bigger than the gateway itself, which is never much taller than its conjurer.

Quote:
Character Name: Taryn
Minis Account Name: Rabid Ice Weasel
Year, Race - Subspecies: Y1, Monster - Chimera
Natural Ability/Abilities: She can naturally breathe fire, and her FEAR allows her to control/concentrate it to some extent and make it more damaging.

Quote:
Character Name: Tsetsiliya
Minis Account Name: haliekins
Year, Race - Subspecies: Y2, Demon - Poludnica
Natural Ability/Abilities:
Natural Ability - Shapeshifting : Tsetsiliya has three main forms: her default form ( which makes her look like a girl of twelve ), a beautiful young woman in her twenties, and an old hag. Normally she sticks in the child form, but any surge of emotion can cause her to shift, depending on the mood.
FEAR - High Noon : Poludnica are also known as "noon demons", so it's natural that Tsetsiliya's FEAR would harness the powerful heat of a noontime sun. She has the ability to raise the temperature gradually in a battle, making her opponent lethargic and confused, before the temperature becomes stifling. When raised high enough, the opponent might pass out from disorientation. It is just as in-tune to her emotions as her shapeshifting is, and when pushed to a certain emotional extreme, it can either fizzle or become an inferno.

Quote:
Character Name: Joachim
Minis Account Name: hanginggallow
Year, Race - Subspecies: Y1, Reaper - Pied Piper
Natural Ability/Abilities: Being able to control his enemy via use of various specific melodies played on his flute and summon mice to aid him.

Quote:
Character Name: Johan
Minis Account Name: zee
Year, Race - Subspecies: Y1, Reaper - Sorcerer
Natural Ability/Abilities:
Natural Ability: Magic - Johan traces runes onto objects, or even in the air to cast spells. He's still learning his craft, however, so at times the spells may not work or have unintended consequences.
Fear- Crystalkinesis: Johan can form a crystal staff from his body that helps amplify his magic, and, if he hums at the correct pitch, creates a loud tone that can hurt his opponents ears. Also good for whacking things, but it is fragile, and will eventually break.

What has happened?

Outside the Haunted House...
Taryn, Johan, Colette and Tsetsiliya ventured through the portal at Amityville and met up with each other in the human world. There were unintentional scares, evasive Knobs, and snazzy matching outfits. But where is Joachim? Has death befallen one of their number so soon?

...

Let the games begin!

Upon entering this first room, The Magic Busters find themselves standing on one side of what appears to be an extremely wide, stagnant river. It snakes off into the distance toward a sunny hamlet, but instead of flowing that way like it seems it should, the water is still. Jagged rocks float in a grid-like pattern all the way to the opposite shore. How has all of this fit into one single room?

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Suspended about twenty feet off of the ground in a shining ball of blue energy on the other side of the river is Joachim. So that's where he ran off to! In the grass below him, three red-shirted mice sit, sniffing the air curiously. Other mice scamper past every so often, but none of the rest of them stop. It seems this cheery town has a vermin problem.

User Image

After a few relatively calm minutes in the area, the ground begins to rumble. Suddenly, one of the rocks shoots upward on a fountain of water! The geyser stops just as quickly as it started, and the rock drops back into place, sending the surface of the river into a choppy fit.

The door you entered through has melted into the face of a huge rock wall at your back, and only the river stretches in front of you. There is no turning back. Everyone will have to make it across to continue.

OOC instructions for Colette, Taryn, Tsetsiliya, and Johan:

Before you attempt to make your way across the river, you might want to take a look around the area you're standing in. There is no way back the way you came, nor can you get to the town in the distance (because it's not really there), but there could always be another way across. Try Natural Abilities, taking a nap, standing on your head, screaming across the water at Joachim, anything you'd like. This is not a race. Character building is awesome.

If/when the time comes that you want to try crossing the rocks on your own two feet, here's how you do it:

You will start along the bottom in row F and work your way towards the top of the map (row A). You are moving from the very BOTTOM of the grid to the TOP. Please RP every step you take on the board.

With every post, you need to do two things:

1) List your coordinates.
Let's say you're going to start two rows from the left. You would put (( Entering F, 2 )) in your post to say "Hi! I'm in row F, column 2."

From there, let's say you want to move to row E, column 2. You would then put (( F, 2 to E, 2 )) in your post.

Made it to the other side? Post (( Leaving A, 2 )).

2) Roll 2d8. Two, 8-sided dice. This will determine which tiles erupt, regardless of who is on them.
The first number is the VERTICAL number.
1 = A
2 = B
3 = C
4 = D
5 = E
6 = F
7 = NO ERUPTION
8 = NO ERUPTION

The second number is the HORIZONTAL number.

If you are unfortunate enough to be on a tile that is rolled, you will suffer -1 HP as the rock is propelled upward then dropped quickly, leaving you to crash land back on its jagged surface.

You may only move HORIZONTALLY or VERTICALLY. You may not move diagonally. Why? The magic of the Haunted House prevents you from doing so.

Your dice rolls effect EVERYONE on the board. If your roll matches someone who’s on that tile, they will suffer damage. It may be best to go across one at a time for safety, or it might be better if you all rushed it...

How to determine whether or not a tile erupts under you:
1) If the post with the coordinates your post was currently on is BEFORE your post, the tile propels you up and against the ceiling before you have a chance to move.
2) If the post with the coordinates your character is on is AFTER your post, you take no damage.

Thus, if the group goes one at a time there's no risk of players hurting each other... But it takes a long time. That, and you might not uncover grid secrets... if there are any.

OOC instructions for Joachim:

It is your job to direct the three mysterious mice that are hanging around this room. They seem quite interested in you and might listen to your directions, but they're more likely to just scamper around at random.

To attempt to control a mouse, roll 2d8 in your post.
If your roll matches or is one horizontal or vertical square away from one of your teammates' current positions, the mouse you specify (white, spotted, gray) will climb that student and stay with them until they make it to the other side of the room. If a mouse is in range of two of your teammates at once, you will need to choose which student the mouse runs toward.

Each of the three mice is holding something, but what that something is remains a secret for now. You have the option of doing nothing but looking around the room and cheering your team on, but then you may never know what the mice are carrying.

Stepping through the door, Johan had seen only black, and after a swift, dizzying pull through the darkness, his foot landed on grass. Disoriented, he thought the house must have turned him around and he was still outside. He turned to try and re-enter the door, but instead ended up smacking his nose on a rock wall.

"Ach!" The Reaper stumbled back, hands covering the offended proboscis, as he stared at the wall, attempting to make sense of the situation. It stretched up higher than he could reach or climb over, and was unbroken as far as he could see to the right or left. He looked back down at the grass, at the wall, behind him, and things started clicking (sort of), when he saw the river with its plethora of jagged rocks.

This was their room, and that person floating in a blue ball across the river had to be Joachim! No wonder he'd never shown up. Johan's brows furrowed as he considered the implications of Joachims predicament. Had he tried to get into the house early, and been captured? Or had this been set up beforehand by the teachers? Could Joachim hear him from over there?

"Hello?" he yelled across the water, "Joachim?"

Oh no! Oh no, oh no! Taryn was panicking on the inside, and it showed in her expression. A hand jumped over her lips, and the other subconsciously pushed a lock of hair behind an ear. There floated the poor Joachim. Whether he had been put there or had accidentally stumbled there was unknown, but he was in trouble nonetheless. Her attention then turned to the scurrying mice, who seemed to have no problem moving from platform to platform, even as they rose and fell.

Damnable terminal velocity...

"Joachim!" she yelped, accidentally echoing Johan's cry, "Joachim, are they yours?!" It would, of course, be rather helpful if the piper could control his little mouse friends... but what if they weren't? Merel had worn a bow once, but these mice wore shirts and none of them were Merel. The ghoul watched a rock spring into the air , and took an involuntary step back as it landed and splashed back into the water.

She would be of no use here, that was for certain.

Johan recoiled as one of the rocks on the river was launched into the air by a gigantic spray of water.

"Are ve supposed to cross zat?" he asked incredulously, as the rock splashed back into place. Wait a moment, what was he thinking! Of course they had to cross it; this was a field trip! Wouldn't be a field trip without floating death traps, now, would it?

Taking a deep breath, the reaper forced his thoughts to calm down. In all likelihood, he'd need to concentrate on casting a spell, and things never went well when too much emotion went into the runes. Never. He noticed Tayrn asking Joachim about some mice on the platforms. Creatures he'd been too preoccupied to see.

Glad to have something besides impending doom to focus on, he moved closer to the water's edge, and tried to tell if the mice were some other obstacle to take into account. Tayrn seemed to think they belonged to Joachim. Johan could only hope so. None of them immediately homed in on him, at least.

He looked back toward the shore to see if Colette or Tset had been sorted yet, but no black haired reaper, or pale demoness suddenly appeared at the rock wall.

"Vhat do you think? Should ve start crossing now, or vait for ze others?" he asked Tayrn.

When Professor Red said there was going to be some disorientation, she was not in the least bit lying. Colette's vision had blurred into darkness upon entering and she eventually found herself blindly stumbling through a doorway, which wasn't really bad at all as it technically led to her to her team, but still unpleasant.

After several blinks, her slowly returning and fuzzy vision was clear again and Colette looked straight ahead to see her last team member suspended in a blue orb, and quite a distance away. "J.. Joachim?" Colette squeaked. She couldn't believe it. Of course, it wasn't exactly something she was expecting. "What.." Colette looked at her surroundings as if it would have an answer, but that just brought another problem to her attention. A river of all things in a haunted house! And a dangerous geyser-y one at that.

"Why is Joachim over there?" she asked, completely lost. Colette really hoped they had an answer.

He woke up, or that was to say he finally managed to shake off the slumber that he had been rather quick to retreat in. Joachim was sure there was something about some portal that he had to walk through but it all seem to slip his mind considering the last couple of hours were almost zombie like walk. Rubbing his eyes the ghoul expected to feel the common tug of Merel angerily pulling on his hair however it felt light, light even to the point that the familiar squirm of warm bodies in his pocket were not there.

He hopped to his feet quickly, patting his jacket furiously only to find that they were all empty except for the decorated wooden flute. Joachim wrapped his fingers around it before realizing there were voices calling to him. Looking up he realized that he was on the wrong side of some sort of strange river.

Putting the flute back into his pocket he waved his hand before he cupping his hands around his mouth shouting, ”errrrrrrrrr……. No……. I DON’T THINK SO.... OR AT LEAST THEY DON'T LOOK LIKE MINE....……” Looking at the ground at the mice at his feet, none of them looked very familiar to him or at least not at the moment considering they were wearing red shirts.

The first thing Tsetsiliya felt was a terrible dizzy spell, and no matter how often she blinked her eyes, she couldn't see. So this must have been what Professor Red was talking about. Hands out in front of her, the darkness suddenly ended and she stumbled out into the open, nearly making a grand fall if her feet had not quickly scrambled to keep her upright. Shaking her head, the hood fell to her shoulders and she blinked several times, still reeling from the exit. Around her, she could hear familiar voices - her teammates.

"H-Hello?" she called with a hand out, still waiting for her eyes to fully adjust. Her palm rested against the door she had just come through.. but.. wait.. it patted the surface a few more times, and a brief panic fluttered in her chest. Her eyes finished adjusting at last, and both hands flew to the door, feeling along its now stony surface, looking for the knob, the cracks, anything.

None. Tsetsiliya pursed her lips and turned towards the room. She spied Colette, Taryn, and Johan a short distance away, but that was not what caught her attention. Joachim, floating in his blue forcefield across the way, was also not what caught her attention.

It was the stagnant water that made her heart drop clear into her stomach. Her hands began to tremble and she cinched them together, forcing her thoughts towards her teammates. Must be brave, must be brave!

"J-Joachim!" She called to the boil, and it seemed just in time - Joachim was awakening, calling back to them. This action brought a small smile to her face, and strengthened her resolve a little. She shakily turned towards the others. "W-we are.. crossing, yes?" Not that she seemed very eager to do so, but.. but her teammate, an underclassman, was in danger! What kind of Knob would she be if she didn't do anything? "I-I mean.. we must! B-Because.. because Joachim.." She gestured helplessly, arms falling limp at her sides. "The.. the rocks perhaps.. ? If we are.. being careful.. " The sight of the river filled her with dread. Never had she felt the absence of swimming lessons so keenly as she did now, and the tremble would not leave her voice.

She was doing a horrid job at this "being brave" thing.

With a blink and varying levels of disorientation, Colette and Tsetsiliya both appeared. Johan answered Colette's question with the simplest explanation he could think of.

"Because ve haf to go get him."

Tsetsiliya, in the meantime, seemed to be positively frozen in place with fear. Johan followed her gaze to the water, one eyebrow arching as he felt the inklings of worry. Could she swim?

"Tsetsiliya, if you like, I could see about making your uniform buoyant?" he ventured, summoning the image of that particular rune to mind.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 11, 2011 9:39 am
Taryn immediately gravitated toward Tset, ignorant to the Poludnica's own trepidation. The chimera had indeed learned to swim early in life, although it was made much more difficult by goaty legs. She'd have to hold on for dear life if she was thrown, that was all, she could--

By Jack, no wonder they needed the pumpkin pills...

"S-so we have to jump across? I don't--" like this. know if I can do this. want to drown or be crushed. The ghoul closed her eyes tight a moment. "Alright. Alright, but how? Should we go all together? One at a time? I-I'm so..." nervous. scared. worried. "...we have to get Joachim."

Abigail, meanwhile, had her attention focused elsewhere. Considering her host's nervousness, she found herself in an odd state, almost frightened. It was only now that the mice scampering around the room looked... delicious. She slithered upright in the air, dangerous eyes flickering between the three small shapes.

Tsetsiliya shakily looked towards Johan as he noticed her nervousness, and color crept into her cheeks. This was not how it should be.. she was a Knob. She should have a little more backbone than this, having been through two field trips already! Colette couldn't be the only one of them to show a little nerve. Still, it was a very nice offer from Johan, and if it would help improve their chances..

"Y-yes, i-if.. if it is b-being no trouble.." She swallowed and gave a timid nod just as Taryn moved towards her. She reached out for the ghoul and clasped her lightly on the arm, but whether or not it was more for her own reassurance or the reassurance of her friend even she was not sure. "B-but yes.. we are needing to get out there.." As far as tactics went, she was very fuzzy, and decided this time to turn to Colette. She was the more battle-worthy of the group, wasn't that true? "Should we.. go as a group.. ? P-perhaps that is best.. staying together.."

Again, her mantra: safety in numbers!

PostPosted: Tue Oct 11, 2011 9:14 pm
Oh dear, the two of them were actually stuttering with apprehension. Johan attempted to put on a stoic face as he walked over to Tset, and circled around her, looking for an optimal spot to place the rune. The back of her jumpsuit made for an excellent canvas, and Johan began drawing the rune in glowing light in the air.

The focus he needed for casting helped center the Reaper, and he could feel his heart beat slowing somewhat as the rune spooled outwards. When the basic form was complete, Johan pressed the rune into the back of Tsetsiliya's uniform. Now, for the specifics. Johan drew a line running horizontally just beneath her armpits, and then drew an arrow pointing up toward her head. Generally he was telling her uniform that the arrow was pointing this way up, and everything above the line was to stay above the water. The lines of the spell began to give off a steady glow, and Johan could feel a bit of his FEAR drain into the rune.

"Zat should do it." he stated, satisfied with the results, though he'd never actually tested this rune in a practical setting before. No need to tell her that, though. She was shaking enough already! He glanced at Tayrn, one eyebrow raised. Did she want the same treatment? And what was her tail doing?

Because ve haf to go get him.

Well that was as good a reason as any.

While the idea of trying to travel via the rocks was being discussed, Colette took the time to observe the river and estimate the distance. "Hmm..." Well, she knew she might be able to get everyone across via her regularly used method of getting to class quickly, although it'd take a few trips; but then again it might leave them only most of the way there, or even just half way... unfortunately, Colette was bad at judging distance.

And sharing what she was thinking.

"Okay, I --" Colette paused and looked at her teammates. They were worried and nervous, and even preparing for the possibility of drowning. It would have probably been better if she shared her thoughts and ability earlier! The ghouls started again. "I... know how to easily get us across. Kind of," she said sheepishly. Colette wasn't entirely confident in her plan. "I can, uh, bring us across through a portal of sorts. It'd take us three trips though -- I mean, at least three. I'm not actually sure if it'll get us all the way across. I can only go so far at once." Colette looked at each of them and waited for a response, hoping her idea wasn't questionable or ridiculous.

PostPosted: Fri Oct 14, 2011 2:59 pm
Johan looked sharply at Colette ar the mention of an easy way across the river. She didn't look too sure of this idea of hers, but she didn't strike him as the type to babble without good reason.

"A portal?" he repeated, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Do you use magic? I haf not learned any spells for portals. Yet. But if I can be of assistance...? Even getting us part of the vay there vould help tremendously."

He looked to the other ghouls, thinking that this was probably their best bet considering no one was particularly enthusiastic about making the crossing on the flying rocks.

Tsetsiliya fidgeted a bit when the rune was drawn on her back, and gave Johan a deep, grateful nod. "T-Thank you." Even though she was grateful for his help, she still nursed a few doubts.. ones she wished would prove false.. or would never need to be proven, as Colette spoke up. The ghoul's pale eyes focused on her fellow Knob, widening just slightly.

Teleportation?

Her nerves begged her to jump all over the idea, but.. that would be selfish, merely thinking of her own needs. After all, her jittery nature had made Johan feel compelled to put that flotation spell on her, hadn't it? No, no, now was the time to think of their underclassmen. By the looks of things, Taryn was about as nervous as she had been, and that is what edged her towards agreeing.

"Yes, I am also for the teleportation.. at least we are getting some distance, even if it is not entirely there." She patted Taryn's arm again in an effort to reassure her that things would be alright. So far they were all coming to a fairly logical conclusion! "Taryn?"
