If there was one thing in his life that Ever was really okay with -- it was change. Ever thrived on it. When things stayed the same too long, when they stuck and lagged, when he was too thoroughly trapped by his position, that was when he started to feel suffocated and small. Change, however, didn't scare him, or intimidate him, or make his stomach flip the way it did some people.

Zac's nerves, likely already frayed, probably wouldn't be improved by the arrival of a curious and investigatory Ever on his doorstep, poking around at the mailboxes and checking names on his neighbor's doors. Clutched in one hand was a 'present' -- a black plastic bag, wrinkled tightly shut, something rectangular straining against the material. In the other was a six pack of really, really cheap beer.

This was how Ever imagined housewarming went down.

Zac opened the door like he expected an axe murderer, more precisely… he opened the door like he was planning to eliminate an axe murderer from the gene pool using nothing but a hand held mixer and a cardboard box.
There was a small twitch trying desperately to form at the corner of his eye, his jaw was ridged with a seldom shown fury boiled like a over heated kettle under the surface.

He glanced you over as though he could dissect you with his eyes alone, assuring that you were not in fact the axe murderer he had been waiting for before listening his grip on the door handle and stepping inside. “Hi… welcome to my little slice of ‘why did I give her the address HELL.”

He glanced at the bag and the beer and back up curious. He ushered Ever inside where a pizza was cooling on a table top, a half eaten slice was sliding down the already old and stained refrigerator and a glass had been broken against one of the cupboards, most of it swept up into cheep new dustpan by a rather anemic broom.

"...uh. Bad time?" Yes, Ever was probably going to grate; with most of his good humor back on track, where it was supposed to be, he offered Zac a twitch of a smile as he came in. Looking the place over only made him a little nervous;. The signs of a fight, or a hissy fit, or god-only-knew-what weren't entirely unfamiliar to him. In his day, Ever'd had some things thrown at him. He'd probably thrown a few, too.

It was just hard to imagine Zac in either role, with his too-calm eyes and his serious expression and his self-conscious nerves.

He made a noise, poking at the dust pan with one boot and setting the beer down heavily on the table. "I guess I won't take off my shoes."

“I’m going to KILL her, I don’t give a s**t if it gets a lot of questions anymore I am so sick of her drunken homophobic rages and obsessive overbearing domineering ways! How…how CHILDISH do you have to be to throw your god damned FOOD across the room?” He said stooping to sweep up the remains. “Have some pizza!” He said with a forced smile that was at least getting marginally calmer as he dumped the glass into the wastebasket and made another pass to try and make sure there were no slivers to make an unpleasant surprise.

“Can you… could you just peel that thing off the fridge and toss it in the can?” He said straitening again and dropping into a chair rubbing his temple. “Um…yeah… so this is it. No tree to climb in either so neither you OR Sabine can give me that particular brand of early morning heart attack.”

Ever watched Zac sweep and rant, his head tipped to the side, and dropped the black plastic bag down onto the table beside his beer. It was light, more a joke than anything else, and was perhaps better saved for later considering Zac's current state of mind. Quiet, Ever considered for a moment -- and then grabbed the pizza, tossing it easily into the trash can. He didn't move to clean up the streaks of sauce on the refrigerator, not yet.

"...I really didn't realize you could get quite that angry..." A shift, a shrug, and Ever stepped forward to wash his hands quickly in the sink. There was more to that comment, something teasing. Remarkably, eEver didn't say it. But his silence maybe said enough.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 06, 2011 5:14 pm

“I’ve been that angry a few times before.” He snapped and then collected himself. “...You weren’t around for them though. I think I scared Scheelite the first time he saw me actually angry. But in ALL fairness I just got –mauled- by a guardian cat, she freaking blasted me with her head laser and then clawed the crud out of my shin. Seems the fabric for the pants on my Captain uniform left –something- to be desired, never mind the fact she got my hands too.” He folded his arms half defensive wondering what the ‘more’ was to that comment. “Stupid cats.”

He reached and prodded at the black bag curiously. “What’s this then?” He asked and then stood again to find a paper towel to get the tomato sauce off the appliances.

Ever hesitated, eyes raking in the bag, and then smiled -- a slow smile, but it was still his proper one, spreading crookedly across his face. "Open it later."

For now, he'd claim a chair, dropping down into it and shrugging out of his jacket as he shot a look around the place. His hair was a mess: fall wind-blown, it was long enough to tumble wildly around his face, to actually curl at the nape of his neck. He looked shaggy, and it made Ever look younger, actually, shrunk the gap between them just a touch. Or maybe that was because the bags under his eyes were gone...

"...which cat was it? One of theirs?" His attention resettled on Zac, head tipping slowly as the other man bent to wipe sauce from the floor.

“Little Siamese, used to belong to Lyra apparently.” He said with a sigh that said he recognized the humor of her cat assaulting him. He stood finally, satisfied or satisfied enough that he wasn’t going to be able to remove far older stains from the floor with just a paper towel and tomato sauce.

He tossed the paper towel out and dropped into the other chair again, it creaked threateningly and was dutifully ignored. “Any time I think something will work out or make life easier it blows up in my face.” He grumbled. All things considered he was not pleased with ‘humanity’ as a whole right now, no small part of this due to his mother’s rather ‘enthusiastic’ opinions on anything and everything.

“You got some sleep.” He observed at last in some small surprise. He still half wanted to say ‘you need a hair cut’ if only because it was odd to see him look younger like that. “And I’m done ranting, at least for a few minutes.” He added to assure that he wasn’t going to spend the whole visit spouting poisonous opinions on life the universe and everything.

“Thanks’ for coming over…I thought she came back for round two of ‘destroy the dishes’, I should have given her a damned plastic cup.”

"She...the cat?" Puzzled, Ever stretched out his legs to bump his feet against Zac's, draping an arm absently across the table. His fingers just caught the rim of a beer can, and he used it to slowly drag the cheap crap in closer, his attention wandering some. It was hard to imagine a cat throwing a piece of pizza across the room, though glass smashing seemed entirely in their repertoire. It would only take a few little nudges...

He pried two cans out of the six pack and rolled one, slowly and carefully, toward Zac.

“Ah… no, my mother.” He said with a grimace that almost masqueraded as a grin and faded into something more tired. The same woman he’d been trying to ‘take care of’. “So tired of the crap.” He said and caught the rolled can before righting it, teetering it rather deliberately on its lower ‘edge’ and then setting it down. He flicked at the metal tab with one finger but didn’t open it yet.

“So, yeah, glad you weren’t her AND glad you didn’t bring a pet instead of a, box?” He poked the bag. “How do you feel about unpacking boxes? I have Curtains to hang, plans to remove the left over shower curtain with the thickest gloves I can find…I um, if you laugh at the cinder block ‘book cases’ I may kick you.

Unpacking? Ever's face froze behind the can, and he halfway turned his head to consider boxes. Unpacking sounded distinctively like work, and like very personal work, and like it wasn't going to be particularly exciting either. Maybe, if Zac had a TV they could turn on and watch while they worked. Or alternately...

"...sure you don't want me to chase down and drain your mother, instead?" HIs eyes resettled on Zac, and the scary thing was that he -- well. It didn't seem like he was joking. Ever meant it.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 08, 2011 11:17 am

That got a pause, a very long thoughtful pause. “…Drain?” He said arching an eyebrow suggesting he would be JUST fine with an unfortunate and sudden coma befalling the woman. “If she saw you coming she’d probably beat your skull in with a bottle of jagermeister.” He warned but didn’t seem to consider it much of an impediment to sucking the life out of the harpy.

A longer pause and he popped his own can open and took a small sniff he clearly regretted. “… Is this a favor you’d want reciprocated?” He asked arching an eyebrow. “Draining of course, unless you prefer…” He shrugged off the last word and took a sip. His face was the normal one from his first ‘sip’ of the cheep brews Ever brought around.

A reasonable reaction: it tasted approximately like piss. At least neither of them had a particularly high tolerance -- Zac small as he was, and Ever as skinny as he was. If he ate a bit more, maybe it'd build up, but as things stood...

He choked on his own sip, startled maybe, considering exactly how to reply to that. He was left mopping at his face with one sleeve, thoughtlessly. "...um. My mom doesn't deserve that. My dad'd probably shoot you the second he saw you coming. My brother's, though..."

If Zac wanted to hunt down the three of them, he could enjoy. Though, Ever might get annoyed if it were more than just a bit of draining.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 08, 2011 11:23 am

“You know I could drain about half the city now right?” He said and stared at the can like it had offended. “That might be a bit suspicious though if I did that to like…their block. I suppose they’d blame a gas leak but it’d probably solve the shooting issue!” He sounded at least a little amused at that though Ever was probably quite serious.

A thoughtful pause and he tilted his head. “I don’t think I’ve heard about the brothers, rather deserving of a good long sleep I take it?”

Ever shrugged, swiping at his hair. It was somewhat dismissive, perhaps trying not to encourage Zac on this line of action - but at the same time, inwardly, not entirely opposed. The issue with taking out the block would be his mother and sister, who really didn't deserve it. Well. Renee at least didn't. His mother was more up in the air...

Another gulp of beer. Ever could get through it fast, at least. "But you're sure you don't want me going after your mother? I could make it all righteous..."
