A dry wind blew through the arena, kicking up dust from the floor. The stands where empty, all was silent as she stood waiting. It was almost the appointed time, she had no doubt that he was coming. It didn’t matter he hadn’t contacted her back. Their rivalry meant he wouldn’t ignore her message. It had been simple. West,
Come, Fight.
Tomorrow, an hour after class.
The outdoor arena.
-Mandy.She was ready. He better be too. Example Battle! Hi and welcome to this example battle! The wrath demon usually wanted nothing to do with his wings. That fact hadn't really changed, but he had made an exception with regard to using them unnecessarily, at least for today. West swooped into the arena, creating an even larger and more dramatic cloud of dust as he approached the ground. The boil stumbled a bit as he regained his balance, hoping that the drop bear would be too distracted by his magnificent plumage or something to notice that he continued to suck at landing.
"Still early, I think?" he said. The despised wings disappeared with a hollow pop as air instantly filled where they had been. "Glad t'see y'didn't chicken out." He grinned. This was going to be fun.

Blinking away the dust from West's way too overdramatic entrance Mandy was indeed distracted from his stumble, too busy staring at his wings. Since had he had those? That- That was so unfair. He had wings. He could fly.
The looks Mandy was sending West may have been a tad bit jealous.
His taunt snapped her right out of it though and back to business. They had a fight, she could sulk later.
Smirking back she decided a little banter wouldn't hurt, "I'm not the one with feathers here."
That said she shifted into a more defensive stance, clearly signalling that they should start.

Pleased that his bit of silly flamboyance had been received so... well... received, West could only continue smiling as he prepared himself to fight. He considered just running for the ghoul, but he was still quite wary of the only FEAR power he had known until recently, and he wanted to at least make the attempt to stifle it before he barreled in, fists swinging. It was a very different approach for the boil, and it would have surprised even him if he had been in the mood to give it any deep thought. Right now he was focused on fighting more than anything else, so it didn't enter his mind to care that he was actually employing strategy. He had been lucky during the fight with Damien. He hoped he would be lucky now as well.

Mandy was honestly surprised that West hadn't just come at her fist swinging once it was clear the fight was on. This patience was... odd. It made Mandy cautious, what was he planning? Waiting as the seconds ticked by she felt herself tense, muscles slowly preparing for when this moment would break. She took in a deep breath to calm herself. In, out. In, out. In, ou- Jack it this sort of game wasn't for her. Example Battle! After getting their banter out of the way West and Mandy have finally decided to get down to the fight which means we finally have to decide who goes first. This can be worked out by just talking between yourselves until you get to an agreement or rolling for initiative which is what Smerdle and I have done. Rolling for initiative requires you both to roll one twenty sided die. Whoever gets the higher number has the faster character and can thus take the first turn. Since 14>9 that means me in this battle!

Mandy sprung forward with her hand open, claws aimed to strike West face. At the very last second before they would have touched she skidded to the side, using the smooth dirt floor to slide a good distance from the boil again. "Next time your face will be pretty little ribbons! We didn't come here to stare at each other, come on and fight birdie!" Her grin was wild as she faced him, positively bouncing from the adrenaline that move had shot into her system. Damage: 6-6=0 HP: 30/30 Effect: None. Example Battle! There are two things covered by this post, attacking and the OOC information tracker at the bottom of the post. Basic attacking is simple, depending on your Year the number of sides of the dice are determined and then you always roll two of that type of dice and subtract 6 from the final number. Because Mandy is Year One this means she rolls six sided dice, meaning she can do a total of 6 damage at once and has a greater chance of doing none at all. If after minusing six you end up with a negative number this means you just do no damage, not that you damage yourself! The small list of stats at the bottom of the post appears with every battle post to track how much damage you do to your opponent, your HP, any status effecting you (such as poison) and in multiplayer battles who your opponent is. You MUST have this information in your post.

Birdie. The taunt reminded West of one of Levi's and his smirk slowly stretched into a sneer. His face would have caught Mandy's claws full on if she hadn't veered to the side, and the gust of air she left in her wake caused him to snap out of his negative train of thought. He brought his hand up and flicked at one of her ears. Hey, it had worked on Demi.
"Real cute," he said, taking a couple of steps back himself. He shook his head, his grin returning ever so slightly. Fun. Yes. He was supposed to be having it. West pushed thoughts of the tatzel from his mind and spread his arms. "So's that all ya got?"

Mandy let out a hiss of surprise when West flicked her ear, the offended ear twitching irritably. Nobody touched her ears without her permission, it was on.
A flash of white as she drew her lips back in a snarl was the only warning West got before she darted forward, grabbing the hand West had used to flick her with and biting it.
The next second she'd let go, putting space between them again. "That better for you?" she growled out, running her tongue over her fangs to get rid of the blood on them.

Oh, yes, the smile had returned. Admittedly, it was momentarily dampened by her jackin' teeth sinking into the pinky side of his palm, but West only grunted with startled pain before he lashed out, aiming for her body instead of her snarling face.
"Yeah, great," he replied, shaking his injured appendage. He looked down at his new neat row of puncture wounds, not terribly surprised to see that they were almost exactly in line with the scar left by the bite from Professor Blue's music stand. He lowered his hand and clenched it back into a fist. It was sore and bleeding, but he'd lived through worse. At least it looked like he had returned the favor, though not with his teeth. "How you holdin' up?" he taunted.
Damage: 12-6=6 HP: 37/40 Effect: None.

Mandys breath rushed out of her as West hit connected with her stomach, knocking her back into the ground. For a desperate second Mandy couldn't breath in, her diaphragm muscles stunned by the force of his blow. Painfully she gasped in just enough air to reply, "Just, fine." She pushed up firmly from the ground, finding her feet steadily despite her protesting stomach muscles.
"It'll take more than that to do me in."
Despite her words Mandy made no move to hit back for the moment, using the pause to get her breathing back under control.

Oh, she wanted more? Sure, he could do that. It was what they were there for, right? West's grin faded minutely as his right fist began to swirl with a faint red light. Jackdammit. Not this. He hadn't yet figured out a sure way to tell which of his pair of FEARs was going to rush to the forefront to defend him in these newly sanctioned fights, but if he had to guess from the slight drain he felt in his head, this was going to be the bad one.
He turned his rapidly brightening hand away from the ghoul, striking at her with the left. Any lame taunt he might have been cooking up died on his lips as he struggled to keep from using his stupid power.

Mandy didn’t miss the faint swirling of light around Wests hand as he struck her again, her eyes widening slightly in alarm. So they were bringing Fear into this then? Knowing that West was much stronger than her, he was Year two whilst she was Year one as much as that burned her to admit, she decided the best way to avoid what she was sure to be a very painful Fear attack by striking first. Taking a few quick steps back to give herself some space Mandy began to coalesce her Fear, a slight haze forming around her body. Not wanting to delay to long lest he strike she hoped that her grip on it held as she took a running start towards West before pushing up off the ground in a high jump that would end with her on top of him. Just as she was about to end the arc of her jump she felt exactly what she didn’t want to as with a soft whisper the haze around Mandy dissipated, her Fear attack failing. Startled by the sudden change she failed to maintain proper form in her jump and with a thud fell just short of West, quickly rolling backwards to get away from him. The look Mandy sent West as she stood up clearly communicated Shut up that wasn’t embarrassing I’ll gut you if you mention it.…She really needed to practice that more. Damage: None HP: 19/30 Effect: None Example Battle! In this post Mandy's finally decided to pull out her FEAR attack. FEAR attacks are unique to each character but there are a number of common classes that determine what dice rolls you use for your attack. Inside these classes your Year also affects your dice roll. Mandy is a 'Headlights' class and a Year 1 so she rolls one four sided dice. If she rolls 1-3 her attack fails and does nothing but if she rolls 4 she successfully stuns West causing Smerdle to have to skip a turn. In this case she failed. West as a Year 2 has two different FEARs of different power levels, Smerdle will explain them in later posts. Both of them can only use their FEAR attacks once per battle!

Much as his landing stumble had been missed by Mandy, any difficulties the drop bear was having with her FEAR were lost to West. He was wholly preoccupied with his own power, fighting against the sickening sensation of his anger leaching out of his mind and into his fist. Well... That happened. He felt almost calm once it was done, the loss of the very emotion that defined him serving to focus his thoughts with painful clarity. West shook his head as if that action would bring back his brain's usual enraged twitchiness, but it only served to disorient him further. He didn't attack, but his hand continued to flicker with energy. Damage: 0 HP: 37/40 Effect: West's attack damage has been boosted by his successful use of his Y2 FEAR ability. He will only subtract 4HP from regular 2d8 attacks or will add 2HP to a second FEAR attack for his next two turns. Example Battle! West's Year 2 FEAR is a personal power boost that falls under the category of The Eye. To determine whether or not he succeeds and how many turns his boost lasts, he rolls two 4-sided dice. In this case, he succeeded and his boost will last for two turns.

Ok so she wanted him to ignore her failure but not ignore her completely. He seemed more caught up in something than the battle, an odd look on his face. Irritated Mandy kicked some loose stones at West, bouncing harmlessly against his shoes.
"What's with the face?"

His focus went from his hand to his shoes and the stones that pattered against them. It seemed he could hear each one as it plinked off of his leather boots and skidded to a halt in the dirt. West looked up at Mandy.
"What?" His eyes cleared a bit, but he still looked faintly preoccupied. It seemed Mandy was going to have to smack the distraction out of him.
He didn't wait for an answer to his muttered question, he simply rushed forward and struck, his usual undisciplined style considerably more precise.
Damage: 13-4=9 HP: 37/40 Effect: West will continue to only subtract 4HP from regular 2d8 attacks or will add 2HP to a second FEAR attack for his next one turn.
