It was...impressive. Shairi hadn't expected to ever find such a place, not and feel at home. And yet...she did. In the hot sands and bright sunlight, she had found a place she felt at home, with scholars who told her so many tales. Even the scholars of her old home didn't have nearly as many stories and legends and...oh Shairi was happy as a hare with infinite amounts of grass!
And Croix was content as well. Shairi and Ngoma were safe, and he was in a pride that looked after one another. He hadn't intended on staying, really...not at first. But the girls had grabbed his heart, and Ngoma had stolen it. For her, he would stay put. For now...in mortal form, at least when he was among the other pride members. There were other gods around, but he knew Ngoma wouldn't want any special treatment from others simply for being his mate. At current, he sat in the shade with his mate and her sister looking outside at the sunlit dunes. The heat had been getting worse, steadily. It worried him. Shairi nudged her brother-in-law.
"Do not worry so. Things will be fine. Aintín's visions wouldn't have led us to our deaths in heat."

Ngoma giggled at her mate and sister, nodding from her place curled up at Croix's front paws. "Shai is right, Croix! Aintín would have told us if we were going off to our deaths. After all...she loves us." She yawned. "This heat does take getting used to, however." Never in her life had she encountered anything like it, even after being in the desert for a bit. She was used to waterfalls and mists and trees EVERYWHERE. Here...well, it was mostly sand. But it had it's own beauty. And they were needed here, for whatever reason.

Dianala ran as fast as she could threw the sandy dunes of the night. Where-as her father Kaume was dragging behind not used to this heat. Diana had been born in the drought. She was used to the heat and the rationing of supplies. This was like another day in paradise for her. Like always she was attached to her fathers hip- it was the only way she was allowed out of the temple anyway. They were always too strict when it came to letting her explore; and the drought made it worse. But Kaume always made sure that his 'princess' was well cared for. He wouldn't have it any other way.
She then paused and squinted long out into the distance. It seamed that there were friends to be made up ahead.
"Daddy...can we say hi?" She pleaded at him with her big eyes as she pranced around him.He looked at her and tried to hold back his displeasure at introducing his daughter to more strange lions. This wasn't the first group she had lead into the pride. He admitted though the others were sweet and even settled down and had cubs- but there was only so many chances he was willing to take with his young daughter.
He was about to stammer out a no, but then he looked into her pleading eyes and with a grumble and a loving smile retorted, "Of course we can. If that's what you want love." He gave her a short nuzzle and a purr and the two walked off together towards the newcommers.

Baba Croix sighed and leaned his head down to groom his mate's ear, still uncertain. But...they were the ones who had grown up in the mortal realm. He'd been removed from it for too long until shortly before he'd encountered them. His ears swiveled as he was the first to catch the sounds of someone approaching, green eyes narrowing a bit before he reminded himself that this pride was safe. They would find no harm here...after all, though they'd not yet met everyone, they were members of the pride.
Shairi noticed the pair approaching as well, tilting her head to one side before smiling a bit. Before this journey, she would have been terrified of new lions. Now...she simply smiled and was polite, at the least. Here, she felt safe enough to call out. "Good day!"

Ngoma purred at Croix's attention, relaxing. And then perked up when the others showed signs of company coming. New lions to meet? NGOMA WAS IN. Totally. The heat could take a backseat to meeting lions she hadn't met yet! "Hello, hello! Come join us in the shade?"

Even though his daughter looked more then eager to race up to the pair. He calmly made sure that he kept her behind his front paws every step he made towards them. As calm as they looked it was his fatherly duty to protect his daughter from any harm. He tilted his head in greeting.
"I'm Kaume...and this...this is my daughter-"
"-Diana!"
She poked her head out from benithe his big front legs so that her whiskers were crunched into his fur trying to move forward. He had made the opening too small for her body. It as a shame, the pair looked so nice.
"Yes this is my daddy! We saw you from faaaaaaaar away. I made him come here so we could say hello!"
She beamed as bright as she could and tried to figure out out to get threw her fathers headlock.

Croix couldn't help but smile a little at the father and daughter, chuckling and nodding his head. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Kaume, Diana. I am called Baba Croix." He shifted, moving so he wouldn't look quite so big. (Even in his mortal form, he was about the size of a Firekin.) "You've got very good eyesight to have seen us from far off, Diana. Your father must be proud." Shairi held back the urge to giggle.
"I am Lach-shairi, but just Shairi is fine. It's nice to meet you both." It was nice, not worrying about whether someone meant you harm or not.

The little girl sounded a bit like herself when she was young. Ngoma giggled at that. "It's nice to meet you both! You've quite the eyes, Diana. I'm called Ngoma, and Baba Croix is my mate." She was still surprised he'd chosen her, and not a goddess. But whatever his reasoning, she was happy, and she loved him very, very much.

"Whellfffff-" *THUNK* She tumbled backwards from her fathers grip and landed on her rear. He tried to catch it but it had been too late and she had already gone up to the new comers. She then circled around Croix wide eyed'd.
"Your big Mr. Lion!" She called him as she had already forgotten his name in her excitement.
"Big like- like- like- a GOD!" She continued to inspect him with scrutiny.
Kaume choked back a laugh at his daughter trying to not insult the pair with his cubs behavior. "I'm sorry for her- she just gets so excited when she meets new people." And even Kaume had to admit that this other lion was bigger then normal. If it had been the other way around he might have been circling him as well.
"It is very nice to meet all of you though." He tipped his muzzle respectfully at each newcomer.

Croix didn't mind the cub looking him over. She was just curious, after all. "I am large, indeed. I've been large my whole life." Hell, he didn't remember a time when he was 'small', compared to mortal lions. And he'd had a few lives. He gave Kaume a small smile. "It's fine. She means no harm, and I don't mind it." Shairi looked to her sister, giggling a bit.
"She's like you at that age." Ooooooooh the chaos Ngoma had caused when they were younger. Shairi looked back to Kaume. "What brings you out here?" They'd come out to enjoy the sun one more time, before everyone began the nocturnal ways. A shame, but it was starting to grow too hot to be out in the daytime. After the heat the last few days...the coolness of night would be a welcome relief to one who had grown up in the mists.

Ngoma watched Diana with amusement, glad to see someone else who found joy in meeting a new creature. Especially one who was just as enthusiastic about it as she was at that age! She returned Shairi's amused look, nodding. "Very much like me!" She looked to Kaume and grinned. "Yes, yes...what brings you out here?" She was a curious lioness, forever and always.

He heaved a sigh of relief that the others weren't at all bothered by his daughter. He then raised a brow. "Well in all honesty I'm not really used to being nocturnal like everyone else. I rather wanted my daughter to enjoy the sunlight before she dosen't see it for who-knows-how-long."
He was worried that she might have been an adult when the drought went away; and kids needed to play in the sunlight. He knew he enjoyed it back at her age. It saddened him that they would be deprived of it.
Diana looked at her small size then back at the large male. "Dad do you think I will grow that big?"
Kaume looked down at his daughter and though he knew it was impossible he just smiled at her lovingly. "Diana you can be whatever you want when you grow up."

Croix nodded. "Yes...it can be hard to adjust to a new way of living. And it's good that you wanted to share this with her." The male before him was a good father. It pleased him. It pleased him greatly. "Your father is right, Diana. Perhaps you might grow large and strong...or perhaps you might stay smaller, and be wise and sharp of mind."
Shairi nodded in agreement. "Sometimes, size isn't everything, you know. Where I grew up, a lot of us were small. My family was a bit of an oddity." She looked to Kaume and smiled reassuringly. "Though we may not live in the sun for some time...the moon isn't so bad. At least here, you can see all the stars."

Ngoma nodded. "Where we're from, you couldn't see the stars very well, unless you found a clearing in the trees." She'd loved her mist-filled home...but she loved looking at the stars here. She looked to little Diana. "Do you have an idea of what you want to be when you grow up?" She was rather curious, since she hadn't when she was a cub, while Shairi had. So...she wondered if she'd been the oddity...or if Shairi had been.

Diana plopped on her rear and thought about it. "Oh I think I want to be a pretty priestess like my aunt. She gets to wear all the pretty jewelry." She took a wilted leaf from the ground and stuck it onto her head pretending to be Shani. "-And she always gets to be around the king and queen...she is SO important!" She wanted to be just as important.
"I've honestly never really paid much mind to the stars here- or anywhere. It's something I should consider with this drought. I've always been a day riser- nights are too cold for me; especially in the desert." But he did admit that the days were becoming to hot for him too. He really wasn't content with anything aside from his family.
