The night was full of darkness. Clouds had covered the moon and devoid of its soft light, the swamp was a giant shadow. Most creatures had curled up to sleep though the night. Their nocturnal friends chattered uneasily as the dense clouds threatened a storm. One Kimeti wound her way through the swamp, following a familiar path. Even she was near blind in the dark night, so her steps were slow and thoughtful. Her destination was a protected rise, where the dense brush and trees would serve as a good shelter. A storm was coming and she did not wish to be caught out in it tonight.

Head lifted to the sky, pale blue eyes half shut as he glanced about his surroundings, the lone buck stood, the coming winds blowing his tail back across his hind legs from the side ways position he had assumed. One minute the sky was clear, the next, a loud echoing boom thundered across the night sky as a crackle of light exploded over head, and then all was dark once more. Turning his gaze back to where he had made his home, inside a small cave carved into the side of the mountain from years and years of weather abuse, his tiny little niche would serve as a perfect shelter tonight. The wind was blowing at a sideways angle, meaning it would not penetrate his domain. Casting one last glance out towards the swamp, his pale blue body light up once more from a racing streak of light.....but this time the light revealed a figure in the distance seeking solace from the coming storm.

Even in the flash of lightning, Only Dreaming did not notice that she was not alone this night. Her gaze was fixed resolutely upon her destination. The thick, moist air of the storm filled her nostrils and made her hurry her step. She frowned thoughtfully. Perhaps her little copse would not be enough to keep her dry. It would be a nuisance but it would certainly not be the first or the last time she had been stuck out in the rain. She stopped for a moment, lifting her nose to the air just in time to receive a droplet of water. Raindrops began to follow. Another streak of lightening lit up the world… and now she caught a brief glimpse of her fellow Kimeti. Only Dreaming hesitated.

Dizzy Dreamer's eyes narrowed as the doe came to a stop. He seemed to be in some sort of deep concentration or perhaps a hostile glare, but he was simply trying his best to force away a wave of pain stabbing his head like daggers every time another crackle lit the sky. His concentration was broke as a drop of rain hit his face, and for those few brief moments, the cold gentle drop sliding down his muzzle made all the aches and pains of the world seem to vanish. As this happened he opened his eyes and called out to the doe. "Come. My cave is not far, I believe it is what you were seeking. There is room for two." he said as he flicked his tail in a somewhat order like manner that she should continue her advance. More drops began to fall, but if it wasn't for the brief periods of pain relief, he would have already left her to make up her own mind and seek out his dry home.

The wind that had blown up carried his words to her and she hesitated only a moment longer before dipping her head in agreement. Being safe and dry in a cave for the night would be wonderful, not to mention the extra warmth from two bodies would be more than welcome. Only Dreaming was not the type of doe to turn down such a boon. She hurried towards the male, quickly reaching his side. “My gratitude for the offer of shelter.” Her voice was soft, and would have been barely audible had she not leaned her head in close to make sure she was heard. She lifted her head away and looked in the direction she presumed his hidey-hole was, obviously eager to get out of the quickening rain.

The buck simply nodded his head, angled himself back towards where they would find the opening to his cave, and began his move. His tail flicked a few more times to shake lose the ever falling drops of rain, and though he knew she was in a hurry, he himself was not, however for her sake, he quickened his pace. It certainly didn't take that long to reach where he had been camping, a part of the mountain jutted out and curved inwards at the tip in a way that it shielded off half of the cave opening to further protect from the rain, not that it mattered as the wind blew so hard, the rain was falling at a precise angle. The cave was big enough for two and just enough room that they each could stretch out if the desired....or perhaps one day for two or three little sets of hooves. Once he was inside, he stepped off to one side to shake his coat free of water before glancing back at his new night companion. "Please, make yourself at ease until this storm passes. What's mine is yours for the night." He could not help but find her soft colors easy on the eyes, and her scent pleasant, but he had sworn never to get attached to anyone, less he burden them for as long as he might live.

Only Dreaming kept pace with the buck and as they stepped under cover, she gave a soft sound of delight. Unlike the buck, she did not shake off the water droplets, but ignored them as she inspected the space. “I usually do not mind the rain. I enjoy the feeling of water. But tonight I felt a longing for some warmth on a dark night.” She said idly as she turned about to watch as the rain began to pour down in earnest. “You are most kind.” She looked across at him; even in the darkness his patterns were quite striking. “I am Only Dreaming.” It had been, she decided, a while since had been with Red-like-fire… though perhaps not so long since she had born her sacs. Still, she would not say no to this buck’s advances, if he chose to take that path.

Dizzy Dreamer's eyes were now torn from the beauty before him and instead on the ever falling rain. His ears pricked and quivered with each word she spoke, her tone like sweet honey to his aching head. Slowly he turned to take her in once more, his pale blue eyes locked upon her green orbs. "Only Dreaming......" he said in a soft but gruff voice. Oh if only he really were dreaming. "I am Dizzy Dreamer. Seems we two were destined to share dreams tonight." of course, sharing dreams was the last thing on his mind but his pride in his self mannerisms would not allow him to succumb to his desires so easily.

Only Dreaming gave a soft amused laugh as he revealed his name. Ah, what a lovely coincidence. She gave a playful shake of her head. “It is a pleasure to meet you.” A crash of thunder rolled overhead and she waited for it to pass before speaking again. “You are more than welcome to my dreams this night, if you are so inclined.” With a thoughtful flick of her tail she folded her legs elegantly beneath her, settling comfortably down on the floor of the cave, her head facing the cave entrance. A gentle incline of her head invited Dizzy to join her.

If her invites persisted, the buck knew he would not be able to resist. It had been far too long since he had company of that nature and his body ached in ways his head did not. Though he was a gentleman, and a gentleman never turned a lady's invite down, and so he moved to sit beside her, folding his legs beneath him with a power that was graceful to a male and offered his side to her for warmth and comfort. "I do not normally have such visitors nor do I act in such ways if I do. I prefer my solitude and not to abuse...... but my lady.... if I may say...." he paused, and for once offered a soft smile. "I find you most tempting." he admitted, in no way embarrassed but of course meaning it in all the best ways possible.

She looked quite pleased when he settled down, leaning her body casually over so her side rested against his. Only Dreaming did not blush or act coy when he gave her the truth about how he felt, she merely smiled back. She was clearly calm and content. “That was partly the intention.” She admitted after a moment. “I am hardly… shy when it comes to my own desires, since I grab the moment so rarely.” She casually flicked her tail against his. “I also prefer solitude, but that does not mean we should let such a fortuitous meeting go to waste. I find you quite handsome.”

Dizzy was not a buck used to such customs or such ways, and as so his ears flickered slightly with awkwardness....but it had been so long... too long... since he had been with a doe. His hunger tonight was more fiercely aroused by his raging headache and fear of sleep, that he saw himself succumbing to her desires...as well as his. "No, id does not. Fate has brought us two dreamers together, perhaps it is meant we share what is ours tonight." he said and offered her a soft smile. As her tail flickered against his, he moved his so that it twined around hers, and made sure to support her as she leaned against his side.

“I am glad you agree.” She was comfortable here coiled against him. These moments were special to her, especially knowing she would leave it for the quiet, solitude of the swamp come morning. Dreaming leaned in to gently nuzzle his cheek, studying him in the brief flashes of lightening. She had not missed how weary he looked, or the furrow of his brow that indicated pain. Clearly this buck had his woes and while they were none of her business, she would be happy to comfort him in any way. “Let me ease your pain...” She murmured softly.

Dizzy's brows cocked to one side as he glanced to her sidelong, baring a slight smirk. "Seems I was unsuccessful in hiding my agony." lets out a soft chuckle, his tail twitching in the mix of pain and ease simple gestures such as that brought to him. Though he had grown so used to it, some nights were far worse than others and simply unbearable. Tonight was one of those nights. "It would be my pleasure to let you do so M'Lady." he said in a deep gruff suggestive tone full of both pleasure and pain.

“I am can be quite perceptive… now and then.” The doe sighed out softly, learning ever closer. Then it was time to forget the rain and pain, to wash it all away.
--
It was barely dawn when Only Dreaming awoke to a water soaked world. The doe carefully shifted and stood, silently moving to the front of the cave. Outside everything was lush and green, the raindrops glimmering in the soft light. She looked back once at the buck still curled up in sleep. She hoped she had helped to ease his pain for this one night and that he had enjoyed their union as much as she had.
But solitude called her once more, and just as she had left many others before now, Only Dreaming disappeared into the morning light.
