Hero alias: The Weaver
Real name: Luka Zevachya
Powers/abilities: Thread Manipulation (with mild empathy, nothing really superhero-esque there)

She can sense strong emotions from people near her (5ft radius in any direction), this is uncontrollable and doesn't affect her much. It's just the trigger that set off the current chain of events.

Rookie powers:
Luka when in control of herself can control fabric and threads to an extent. With concentration she can make fabric such as clothing move as well as rope and ribbons. Individual threads are harder for her to pick out and the difficulty of using her power in general changes depending upon the type of fabric she's trying to affect. Anything she affects cannot free-float from the ground. It could rise into the air or stretch between two objects so long as it's touching or supported by something. Think like a monkey holding one branch and stretching it's body to grab another. She can undo simple knots with ease, though large tangles take her some time. She can only affect fabric within 5 yards of herself.

She personifies fabric and threads, speaking and thinking of them as if they have personalities based upon how hard they are to control.

Wool, Silk, and other animal based fibers are the easiest. They're like 'lap dogs' always happy to do her bidding. Fabric of this type can be unintentionally drawn to her and cling as if full of static.

Plant based fibers such as cotton and hemp are harder. They are more passive and less inclined to move.

Synthetic fibers are very difficult for her to control. If they move at all it's possible they'll even do the opposite of what she wants. (such as binding her instead of the enemy, or just releasing them instead of holding tight)

Leather and glass or metal based fibers are not affected by her powers.

As she ages her control over various fabrics improve as well as the range and amount of fabric she can control at a time. When she reaches hero stage I'd like for her to be able to fly on the carpet. It would be the only fabric she's able to lift from the ground completely (being her power object).

Which area is the character based/from: Upper Sewit
Age upon entering academy: 15
How did your character get their powers: Power Object = Tasean antique carpet. (possessed by dragon spirit)
Item Origin: Long ago A Tasean man tried to create a flying carpet by binding a dragon spirit from the 3 sister islands into a family heirloom. His binding ritual didn't work as planned. The spirit killed the man before it was trapped within the fibers of the rug. He hadn't told anyone what he'd planned and his death was never explained. The rug was sold quickly, the family believing it to be bad luck. It passed ownership many times, the spirit within falling dormant.

The spirit itself is incorporeal. It had no physical body to begin with. It's basically an air elemental personified by the Taseans as a dragon. While powerful, on their own dragon spirits don't particularly care about the material realm, preferring to be left alone. They're not pranksters or poltergeists and don't go out of their way to interact with people. They only reveal their presence when angered.

Motivation for entering academy: Separation from society till she learns to control the spirit/her new abilities.

Strengths/Can/Pros:
-Can control fabrics to a limited extent, used to tie, trip or otherwise immobilize her opponent.
-Cannot be tied up herself.
-Doesn't need to be physically strong

Weaknesses/Can't/Cons:
-Not physically quick or strong
-Fabric can be cut or burned
-Fabric cannot 'levitate' or fly, must be supported in some way
-Certain materials out of her control or 'backfire' under her command.
-Occasionally slips into a spirit rage.

Personality:
Loving, Creative, Cares about others,
Insecure, Ruled by her emotions, Restless

Luka is a dreamer, ruled by her imagination, and styles herself as an extroverted introvert. She loves being around people, making friends and partaking in social events. Because of her curse though, she feels like she has to keep others away from her. This causes her to become socially awkward and paranoid. Even if she's in a 'safe' situation she will at times need to retreat to a quiet place to bolster her nerves. Or she'll avoid a situation all together if her insecurities get the better of her, fleeing back to wherever she can feel private.

Luka tries to put on a face of casual happiness but on average bounces between blind optimism and dramatic pessimism, depending upon her mood and what has affected her that day, or even that hour. Often she is prone to over exaggeration and extreme displays of emotion.

She has a strange love for organization. She likes to see things arranged by size, or by color, or by some other system she takes into her mind. When the mood takes her it can obsess her for hours, sorting or resorting her books or movies as she decides she doesn't like her previous order, and that this NEW one is much better. Then doing it again when she decides that no, really, the first way was best.

When Luka is angry or upset, (and herself!) she sulks. She's not adept at explaining her emotions or talking things out and any attempts to do so only make her angrier. She herself is not a screamer or violent in her anger, but instead clams up or if pushed too far, breaks down into hysteric tears. This is in opposition to the spirit's rage when it overcomes her.

The best method of dealing with Luka when she's upset is to either apologize, or wait till she works through her own embarrassment and either apologizes, or makes some sort of awkward attempts to return things to normal. She'll accept responsibility eventually when she knows she was in the wrong, but if she think's you're to blame, she'll dig her heels in and not give in until she's tired of being angry. At that point she'll grudgingly pretend nothing has happened. She hasn't forgotten though.

General backstory: Luke grew up in Upper Sewit with her family. Her parents run a large antique store that specializes in exotic goods. She's the youngest of 5 siblings with 2 eldest sisters and two middle brothers.

The rug was given to her parents as a gift upon her birth by a friend who knew their love of antiques. It was used to cover the floor in her nursery. She spent the majority of her childhood playing on the carpet. Through her empathy she woke the dragon and was able to communicate by emotions. Her parents assumed it was an imaginary friend when she became old enough to tell them about it. As she aged it began to exert an influence over her, seeking to free itself. She would have fits of anger that would spark from the littlest of things.

At the age of 13 her parents decided to replace the carpet. Luka begged them not to take it away and driven by the spirit, she pulled threads from it's fringe and wove them into a braid which she fastened around her neck. Removing the threads weakened the spell on the spirit. It was still trapped but found itself able to possess her body through the intimate connection of the braid.

This was the first taste of freedom in many years and it unleashed it's anger upon everything in reach. Luka destroyed much of her household in that first fit of rage. The carpets, curtains, and linens were torn to shreds. The spirit's powers were limited to the medium it occupied, but the damage was significant. The following month is a blank to Luka with only a couple moments of clarity when she was able to regain control. Her parents, frightened by these psychotic episodes and at a loss as to what to do, sent her to a psychiatric hospital. She spent the next year of her life there as a patient. Eventually the spirit slipped back into a semi-dormant state as it realized that while she was locked up, it couldn't get free. As she regained her consciousness Luka tried to explain that it wasn't her fault, that something was controlling her and causing these fits but no one believed it as truth, only that she was certainly insane. She doesn't know the history of the rug or why it's possessed her. Through her empathic link with it she's been able to discern WHAT it is and what it wants.

An agent of SA was sent to investigate her case and posing as an employee of a high security mental facility offered to admit her, saying they specialize in dealing with patients like her.

She doesn't have much of a 'figure' at this point. Luka has long dark brown hair that falls in loose curls or waves down to her waist. She almost always wears at least part of it up and pinned under a hat. She has large clear blue eyes and fair skin. Coming from upper sewit, her clothing style trends towards the historical (think 1880's, narrow skirts with large bustles, walking jackets and the like) She doesn't like wearing pants or men's clothing.

For her rookie costume, I'm thinking something like above, The straight jacket with elongated sleeves which she can control and move as she wishes, over a matching bustle skirt. All in darker or muted shades of blue with accents in gold, silver, and maybe a hint of red. (though I'm open to change on the color) It should have some sort of head covering (I'm partial to wide brimmed hats) and a simple matching domino mask.

Notes: During a spirit rage, she'll physically act like a wild beast, lashing out violently at anyone who nears her and screaming inarticulately. She doesn't have to touch anything for the fabric around her to be destroyed. When the dragon's possessed her it doesn't matter how fabric normally reacts to her, any type of fabric can and will be shredded, short of leather and metal fibers. She's mentally locked inside of her own mind and can't see or hear what's going on around her.

These episodes generally last around five minutes, and during this time she can harm both herself and others regardless if they're friends or not. She is unable to stop, even if she harms herself, unless she is physically unable to move (either too broken to move, or she's restrained by something not fabric).

I don't have a lot of time at the moment, so I'll leave some other crit later. But the thing that really got me confused through the first read was the dragon spirit. You wrote that the guy didn't manage to trap it in the carpet but then later you write it as though the dragon spirit IS trapped in the carpet. So was it trapped or is only part of it trapped?

If only part of it is trapped, how does it manage to be so powerful/able to possess her etc? In general, I'm kind of confused about the whole 'spirit' dragon, if it has a mind of its own, how can it be separated if it's a single entity. @ - @

Sorry that I'm just not getting this bit. Haha. Hopefully you can clarify.

Ah sorry! I think between the edits things got crossed. The dragon's entire spirit was bound into the fibers of the rug. As it was bound, it managed to lash out and kill the summoner.

I need to add in that the rug was destroyed after it was removed from Luka's room (too worn & ugly to be re-used) So the fibers she has are the only remaining bits of the rug. Since the rug was destroyed it weakened the binding on the spirit, but because some woven strands still exist, it can't be completely free. Like genies, it also can't destroy or affect the item that contains it.

'Dragon' is just a name applied to the spirit. It's a powerful elemental spirit of air. Sort of following a similar idea to that of Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters series if you've read that. (There are four elements, each with it's own variety of spirits that can be summoned to serve the magicians either through coercion or cooperation). The dragon would have been summoned by either an earth or air master and fought being bound against it's will.

I can re-write it to make it all clearer as well.

Edit: I might remove the spirit rage... or at least clarify triggers for it. I just thought it added a bit of a negative side to her power since I intended it to be like a semi-curse.

I would rework the powers a little so it's either thread manipulation or air powers? If it's an air spirit and the carpet was just what it was being trapped in, there's no real reason for her magic to be thread/garment based. It would be interesting for her to actually have a magic carpet which her powers operate on- they could only work when she's on the carpet, and she could use it as a sort of tool. It would also be interesting to have an air spirit bound to the carpet serving her, or to have an air spirit not bound to anything possessing her or in contract with her. It would ALSO be interesting for her to just have thread/garment based magic straight up. Either way, I don't really see how her powers tie into having some loose threads from a magic carpet that once housed an air spirit, and the concept just feels a bit muddled, like you're trying several ideas at once. Hope this helps!
