Sessrumnir wasn't really sure where he got his energy from, especially after long days of teaching needy high schoolers, but he never felt too tired to go out and scour the city for at least a few hours. It wasn't like it was much work. Sure, some of the youma were more difficult than others, but he liked a good challenge. If all else failed he would just lead the monster around until someone else came to get rid of it for him. He didn't know why he had been worried about being bored once out of the Navy, because being a 'knight' or whatever he was... was kind of awesome.

Sure enough, Sessrumnir was out and about, taking advantage of the time he had to leap from building to building after finishing organizing his class assignments for the following week. Teaching at such a fancy pants school had its perks. Yes, he was a teacher, but he basically got to teach what he was good at, and since it would help the school keep up its outstanding record in the science fair competitions, well, he wasn't complaining.

The energy signal of a youma had caught his attention, and he lept down the fire escapes to land on the balls of his feet in the alley below. He wasn't exactly fond of the outfit he'd awoken in, but he figured it could have been a lot worse. He looked like some kind of medieval dame, but the sight he now saw before him took the cake. There, in all his wannabe-medieval glory stood another knight, shield up and backing away from the youma Sessrumnir had sensed.

But the thing that got him most was what he saw in the older man's arms. Eyebrows raised, intrigued, as he twirled the ring of his weapon around his finger. "Hands too full to fight?" he half mocked, although now he turned his attention to the mutated figure of the youma. He figured they were there to save civilians, not strays.

Camelot sometimes wondered why he had to be such a good guy. He had already saved the young family the youma had been terrorizing, a girl and her mother, and they were long gone to find a hiding place. He wasn't even sure where they had gone or if he would be seeing them again.

Which kind of defeated the purpose of his still struggling to fight the youma, rather than turning it to dust. It wasn't civilians in need of aid, it was a little kitten the girl had screamed at him to save.

Thinking about it now, as his back met a wall and the youma loomed over him, he did not recall the mother asking him to save the kitten from the beasts raging.

Did they even own it?

It was too late to question things now, and he would not just abandon the small animal to its fate now that he had seen it was in danger and knew he could do something about it. If it wasn't the pet of the people he had just saved, it may well have been someone else's. If he let it get hurt or killed, that would just result in someone, somewhere, having to deal with a very saddening loss.

Still, being a superhero with a kitten in his arms was not the look he was going for, and certainly not convenient for any kind of youma killing. He heard, and felt, the presence of another knight and turned to see the man nearby. Another older knight? That seemed to be more surprising to Camelot than the fact that he was getting mocked.

In fact, Camelot was rarely surprised when he was getting teased, and almost seemed to just accept the happening and move on without so much as a pause.

"They are, in fact! Would you mind helping me?"

The youma towering over the other knight turned to look his way for a few moments, before deciding that Camelot was more tasty looking and bared down on him. Sessrumnir held back an eyeroll as he hurried forward, gripping onto the storm glass so he could use the end of it to smash into the youma's face, shoving it aside with his shoulder as he hit it, hopefully giving the other enough time to get out of the way.

"Does no one know how to fight here?" he frowned, rotating his shoulder as the youma hissed and from being knocked to the ground, but it was quickly scrambling to its feet. Sessrumnir leapt backwards and out of the way of a nasty swipe. "Got the cat?" he asked over his shoulders, holding out his arm as if to try and protect the older man from getting attacked.

"So are you new at this or...?" he wondered out loud, his eyebrows raised in curiosity again. The guy wasn't running away or cowering, so he at least had some courage in the face of big nasty monsters. Of course, he was also holding onto a stray and backed into a corner. What would have happened if he hadn't come around to save this guy's a**? Unless he bashed his way out with that shield of his, he would have probably been youma food.

Ah, well, now they just had to spend their time kicking this monster's butt.

"I can handle this myself if you wanted to check the dumpsters for any of its siblings," the page of Jupiter offered, his hand still closed tightly around the middle of his weapon. Yeah, he was a little concerned about the glass shattering, but it hadn't so far.

It was times like this that Camelot wished he lacked whatever it was about him that made youma think he would be delicious. It had been this way since he was a civilian, it seemed. For his whole life, maybe, save he had only started noticing later in life. he could only assume he had survived this long because senshi had been very good at keeping him alive.

"I know how to fight!" Camelot countered, looking flustered. He did, very well in fact. He hadn't realized he had pride in that, but he did and it was bristling with the guy's flippant attitude. "But it is a little difficult to do with two civilians and kitten vying for your attention!"

The kitten mewed, pointedly.

"I am not new at this in any way. Are you?" He asked, eyebrows lifting. If he wasn't, he had done a good job of hiding himself, or not doing anything particularly heroic, as of late. Not that Camelot knew every powered being in the city, but he liked to think he would have at least heard of this knight. Their community, after all, was a small one.

But ever growing, clearly.

"Don't underestimate me or your opponent," Camelot offered sagely. He already knew the youma was a very tough cookie, but he debated letting this pompous jerk find out for himself. Except Camelot was a good guy, and his guilt would get the better of him. "Parts of its body seem to disappear when you swing at it. You have to find its weak point and hit that. I think."

He didn't bother holding back an amused grin at the way the knight puffed up, like a rooster whose territory was being threatened. Or some other kind of animal that got all defensive when it felt threatened. Really, they were all on the same team, weren't they?

"Civilians? I don't see any civilians," Sessrumnir, mocked with a grin, glancing around as if to double check the area around them. He hadn't seen any civilians when he'd made his way to the scene, but he supposed there was no reason for this guy to lie and maybe the civilians had already run off. Although, that kind of defeated the point of keeping them save if the guy didn't even know where they went.

"Me? As some kind of strangely dressed super hero, sure. A couple weeks," he said, not ashamed that he was new at this. He didn't think it was all that difficult, anyway. Just fighting youma. Watching out for people whose energy didn't feel safe, things like that. "It's okay if you're a slow starter, though. Some people take longer to adjust than others." Just like in his classes. There were students who were ahead of the curve and those who fell behind and needed extra help. Sessrumnir didn't mind offering a hand to those who might need that extra support.

He pursed his lips together thoughtfully as he watched the youma turn to head their way, glancing around for something to maybe swing at it. "Ah, that's why I couldn't get a good hit on it," he mumbled to himself. "I suppose finding a weak point to hit would be smart," he agreed, stepping over to take hold of the edge of one of the dumpsters up against the brick wall. "Or you could just smash it all in one go," he half smirked, putting his strength into shoving the dumpster across the way to try and smash the youma against the wall, but the large metal container didn't move as easily against the cement as he'd been hoping, and the youma was able to get out of the way.

"Tck, where's a piano to drop when you need one?"

Camelot regretted telling the other knight how to fight the youma. In fact, he considered not helping in the fight at all. After all, he had an arm full of kitten, and he could not really punch someone with it and put it in danger.

It mewled at him feebly when he looked down at it. His expression softened when he saw how scared the little beast was. It was terrified, and it curled against his body, a source of warmth, and shuddered against him, mewing for comfort. Being put down was not its goal: it simply needed to feel safe.

That was his job. Whatever life was in danger, Camelot had to protect it. Whether it was a helpless kitten that belonged to some family somewhere, or a knight who was acting like a jerk and rubbing Camelot the wrong way. In the end, there was no real difference. Not where it mattered.

"Maybe if the youma was stuck first," Camelot said, moving toward the the thing. Its feet, after all, were solid and couldn't pass through the floor. That stood to reason that they would be able to be pinned. It was just a matter of figuring out how to do that.

"If I pull its feet out from under it, you can roll that dumpster over it. Just try not to run me over." He imagined if the youma fell and was flat on the ground, Camelot could be holding its feet and well out of the way in time. They knew how fast the dumpster moved: timing it would be the key factor.

"Protector of kittens..." Sessrumnir mumbled under his breath as he scoured the ground for something to attack the monster with. "Never would I have thought... left the Navy for this... going to be protecting kittens..." He was just saying jibberish under his breath, glancing over his shoulder with an incongruous look. This knight was clearly from some other planet, or maybe he was just the super bleeding heart type. He knew those types. He was related to those types.

"Maybe if the youma was struck first," he repeated, almost mockingly, still looking around for something to hit the youma with. "Yeah, if the feet don't disappear when you grab them, sure," he agreed, watching as the youma slunk towards them now that it wasn't in danger of being squished with a dumpster.

But the guy was right. If it was holding still, they would be able to take the thing out in one hit. "You're the boss, Gramps," he said, pushing up his sleeves to get ready to push another dumpster. "Just tell me when you grab it. And try not to get eaten? I don't want to talk to the cops tonight," he added, giving the older man a thumbs up. Okay, he knew that the guy was only, like... a decade or two older than him at the most, but if he was going to be the one protecting kittens, then he was allowed to make fun of him, at least a little bit.

Was there something wrong in being the protector of kittens? Maybe that was something he could just own and be proud of, instead of being so embarrassed about. He wasn't sure he could though, because he blushed furiously thinking about it and he shook his head without a clever come back coming to mind.

The kitten mewed sadly, trying to find its way under the cloth down the front of his shirt.

"Protector of life," he said at last, trying now not to sound too excited about coming up with something at last, "any life is worth the effort, and I swear there were actually people here before!"

Poor Camelot. He knew that no matter what he said, he was now the knight who saved kittens. And gramps. That's great. Gramps the Kitten Man.

He moved to put the kitten somewhere safe, hoping it didn't run off. He hid it, looking at it and telling it not to go anywhere, though he was certain it could not understand him. It was, after all, a kitten. It looked at him with big, sad eyes and he looked at it pitifully. Maybe his heart was bleeding for it now. But he wasn't going to let it get hurt.

He stretched his shoulders by rolling them back, amping up for the attack to come. He charged forward and ducked under an attack from the youma, grabbing onto its feet as he slid and toppling it as he wanted to. He had to struggle to keep hold of its feet and prevent it from getting up, but they didn't disappear. At least, not both of them. One did, and it caught him off guard but he tried to correct the mistake.

"Do it now!" He called.

Sessrumnir snorted lightly in amusement, shaking his head as the squire tried to convince him that there were people there earlier. He saw no reason for the older man to be lying about something like that... really, he was just being a jerk in pretending that he didn't believe him. "Uh huh, you keep saying that if it makes you feel better," he called over his shoulder, waiting for the moment in which he could try and take down the youma.

He got behind the dumpster, waiting for the man to call, and when he did he gave the large box a push, using his feet to kick off the wall and give it some extra speed. Of course he didn't realize that the idiot squire had gone down to the ground as well.

"s**t, look out!" he shouted, his face paling a little as he watched as both the youma and the knight went out of his view. He rushed over to see if he'd accidentally crushed both the youma and the knight, although he did pause to scoop up the kitten cowering where it had been placed.

"Gramps, you alright? I didn't see you," he called, moving around the dumpster to see what had happened.

Camelot would have snapped at the knight, losing his patience, but he was a bit busy trying to not die. Always an important thing to focus on, when it was actually possible that not doing so would result in the tragic early death of the Earth knight.

Camelot did not want to go out by having his head run over by a dumpster. He was not an idiot for being there. He had mentioned doing exactly what he was doing. If he hadn't been on the floor, the thing would not have stayed still long enough for it to get hit.

He, imagining things were going as planned, released the youma's legs at the last moment, leaving it to get slammed into by the trashcan. Most of it simply passed through the rolling chunk of metal, but its shoulder and left side of its head remained solid and were crushed under the weight of the garbage transporter. A puff of dust indicated that.

Camelot coughed on it, sitting back and looking dazed.

"Oh, I'm fine. Good shove, though, I hadn't thought it was going to move that fast. But that's one dead youma," he nodded his head, getting to his feet slowly and dusting himself off. He looked at the other knight, offering an appreciative smile and then his hand.

"Camelot, not gramps," he corrected. But he seemed jovial, after the demise of the youma. They had managed to kill it, and they had done so by almost working together. So that was good enough for him.

Sessrumnir sighed lightly in relief when it appeared that Camelot had not heen crushed under the large metal box and was just fine. "Dumbass, you're going to get killed doing stupid things," he scolded, but took the man's hand to shake in gratitude.

The page snorted lightly in amusement when he was corrected, grinning at how he even looked like a Camelot would probably look. "Right right, of course," he said, offering the kitten back to the other. "Here you go, oh mighty protector of kittens and civilians who aren't there any more," he half mocked, not really caring if the man would get frustrated with him.

The important thing was that they'd managed to get rid of the youma. Anything else after that was just... whatever.

"Sessrumnir," he introduced with a small grin at his own name. "Norse mythology, but I'm apparently a page of Jupiter," he explained with a small shrug. "You're the first other, uh... knight I've met. Are we all like this?" Because he thought it was pretty hilarious. Senshi and knights. Protecting the city in strange costumes.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 23, 2011 11:59 am

Camelot had heard that before, at least, though he made a face when he was scolded. He was an adult, after all: he hardly needed to be told when he was being dumb. Of course, that thought did nothing to excuse the fact that Sessrumnir was still right, and he would get himself hurt or killed with his snap decisions.

He took the kitten, looking at it in wonder. What was he going to do with it now? He had to find the family that lost it, though they seemed long gone. If they even existed in the first place. he was questioning that fact, as well, at this point. The Kitten mewled at him, rubbing against his chest as he cradled it carefully.

"Jupiter? I see. Well, welcome to the fold, I suppose. If you need any help with anything, don't hesitate to find me. We knights are still a bit of a rare commodity around here, and we should protect our own as much as we do the civilians. And kittens. But, yes. I mean. We all have our outfits and our planets. Generally useless items in combat. Such is the way of the knight."

He grinned, teasing.

"If there's a fold, does that mean there's a shepherd wandering around?" Sessrumnir asked, curious about the older man's choice of words. Actually, he knew he was probably just trying to be welcoming, but if he was going to make analogies like that, then he was allowed to question them. Regardless, if there was some kind of leader wandering around, they were doing a sucky job of keeping everyone informed.

He raised an eyebrow at Camelot and his suggestion of protecting each other. "What about the senshi? Are they going to be able to hold their own? Some of them seem even less informed than civilians," he pointed out, positive that some senshi and knights are just wandering around without any idea of what to do. But since knights seemed to be what Camelot cared about, it probably didn't really matter either way.

"Don't worry, Gamps," he said with a wink in Camelot's direction. "I can take care of myself, but if you need help, feel free to find me." After all, he'd come in and saved his butt, more or less.

Sessrumnir took a few steps back eyeing the kitten in the squire's hands as he did so. "You going to be okay with that?" he wondered, amused that he was now responsible for the kitten he was protecting. Serves him right.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:09 am

"Not that I've seen," Camelot said, though he thought of Lina and her status as a Knight, in rank as well as in title. But he imagined the last thing she needed or wanted was even more responsibility. Maybe he was being a little protective, but he couldn't help himself.

"I fight for anyone who needs my aid," Camelot said with a nod at the question. "Senshi often need help, too, that's not surprising. They're just kids thrown into the battle."

Which was true. He never saw a senshi his age, or even this clown's age.

"See that you do take care of yourself," he said with a grunt, shaking his head. He wasn't required to like everyone, try as he might. Anyway, now he had a kitten to try and get back to its home. He frowned at it as it purred against him. If he brought it home, he worried Dogby would try to eat it. Not that she had ever showed an ounce of aggression before, but she was a dog. And this was a cat.

"I think so. I'll try to find the family. If not, I'm sure I'll be able to... do something for it. Get it some place safe. Ah. No, I'm sure it's fine." He smiled and laughed. He'd just have to figure something out.

"Right... kids thrown into the battle," he mumbled to himself, wondering just how many of his own students were in this mess. He'd at least had a choice whether he wanted to fight or not when he turned eighteen, but these kids it seemed as though they weren't exactly given a choice. Not initially at least, but then how many wouldn't have guilt eat away at them if they knew they had powers and never used them?

His attention was drawn back to the older man as he said he would be fine with the kitten, and Sessrumnit gave a small shrug and turned to head away from the alley. If Camelot said he could take care of it and that he was going to find the family or whatever, then he certainly wasn't going to stop him.

"Alright, you have fun with that," he said with a half hearted wave over his shoulder. "And if you can't find them, there's always the shelter." He was sure do-gooders like his little brother and people like Camelot would make sure that the kitten got a good home, so why should he worry about it?

And with that, Sessrumnir slipped back into the shadows, watching only long enough to make sure the other knight would be okay, before heading home. This hero business was a pain in the butt.
