Peaceful. Calm. Quiet.
Kathryn breathed in the night air as she walked briskly along a dirt path. The lure of a clear night had summoned her out into one of the city's parks for a little stargazing. One only had to get away from the lights to truly enjoy the mystery of the sky above. Kathryn had packed a few blankets and a small snack and had essentially walked out of her house for this excursion. Her parents had warned her to be careful and that was it.
She'd humored their request. More and more Kathryn was hearing the reports of "weirdos" running around Destiny City and the monster attacks as well. Which is why she'd placed a small can of pepper spray amongst the blanket's folds. One could always be caught unaware. Kathryn had no intention of being such a statistic to a mugging or any other sort of attack.
Reaching the hill that she'd chosen for her observation point Kathryn settled her bag on the ground and removed the blankets. She spread them out on the grass and settled down to wait for the last dying rays of the sun to sink beyond the horizon. Tonight was just about the universe and the speck of life that she represented in it.

The stars weren't Kat's only friend that night. The feline esk youma slinked inot the shadows behind her, mouth unhinging as its black tongue licked its lips. It rocked from side to side, tails lashing against the bushes. Human for dinner. Perfect. It stalked Kat until it was a yard away and then lunged for her.

Jarosite hit the throddle on his bike, leaving rubber as he spun and kicked it into fourth gear. It tried to fishtail but he guided it true. The bassist Lt. opted to use his bike when he had to get clear across downtown because he'd sensed energy signatures. Not the be most conspicious way, but it was fast and as Jarostie his reflexes were fast enough he could go ninety down the streets. He dropped a fake license plate over his own, and reved it again.
God damn senshi.. always geting in the... wait what?
He skidded to a stop in an alleyway, dropped the kickstand down and launched himself off the bike. He followed the signature across the road and into the park. Silver eyes latched onto the black cat that flew across the hill top towards a young woman. He cursed and ran up the hill. He caught the cat , which from the power signature wasn't a cat, in the stomach with his shoe and kicked it away from her.
"Tch Ms, you're going to want to move back..." He might be an agent of the Negaverse, but he wasn't going to let the monsters of the Negaverse harm humans.

Had it been any other typical night Kathryn would have been more aware of her surroundings. The sudden snapping of a branch broke the spell that the night had woven over her and she sat up quickly. Scenarios flitted through her mind before she caught a brief glimpse of an inky shadow lunging towards her. There was no time to react. Kathryn braced herself for whatever impact would follow. So it was with some surprise that no impact seemed to occur.
It was at that time that she heard a voice instructing her to move back. Scrambling to her feet Kathryn took in the scene of an oddly dressed young man kicking the shadowy "thing" away from her location. This was not how she'd planned her evening. She'd wanted to get away from everything and everyone tonight. Reaching down Kathryn grabbed the strap of her bag before plunging her hand into it's depths. Out came the can of pepper spray. Her hand trembled as she pointed it at her 'rescuer' ... her voice cut the silence of the moment as she fought the instinct to flee. Turning one's back on a potential threat was not a good idea.
"I don't know who you are or what you want but I'm warning you. Don't come any closer."

Tch, really? Really? He was helping the b***h out and she hand to break out the pepper spray?
Then she was just going to pay for this help in energy. Jarosite really just didn't have time for this right now. He summoned his picks and slid them into his fists, watching the youma.
"Tch... would you just chill out? I'm trying to help." He muttered to himself. The youma let out a scream, jaw unhinging. Well then. It leapt at him and he slammed a fist into it's jaw. It tumbled and tried to get around him to the woman behind him.
Steel-toed boot hit the youma in the face.
Sorry about this, my sibling in chaos, but I'm not going to let you just attack civilians. Attack the senshi instead, he thought as he punched and kicked the beast.

Now she was confused. Obviously the cat-like shadow creature was trying to get to her and attack. The strangers words resonated in her ears and Kathryn lowered her arm to her side. So he was trying to help her out then? This situation was getting weirder and weirder by the minute. Kat's eyes narrowed in concentration. The youth was by all means handling the situation adequately. But just what the hell was going on?
"You're trying to help? Sure it looks that way now. But how do I know that you didn't orchestrate this whole event though?"
Kathryn fidgeted before trying to orientate herself on the hill. She needed to be ready to run at a moment's notice. Something in the air didn't feel right about the stranger even if he said that he was helping. Her blanket would have to be left behind if she were to make a run for relative safety. Her eyes tracked the stranger's movements as he continued to attack the shadowy figure of the cat. She swiped at the bangs that fell into her face before casting a swift glance to the path leading out of the park. Indecision flickered in her mind at the thought of leaving now. What if there were more of these things?

You don't lady, god damn stop looking a gift horse in the mouth... he grumbled to himself as he caught the youma in the chest and took a tumble. He grabbed the scruff of its neck and held it tight as it tried to tear his face off.
Does the thing not recognize my energy signature...? What was it that they said about youma... that they didn't exactly like us? Oh then I should be surpr-- "THOSE WERE MY HEADPHONES YOU PIECE OF CRAP YOUMA!" Jarosite slammed a pick-fist into the youma's side and sent it flying.
God damn youma and their destructive tendancies! He tossed the broken, or rather shreaded, pair of headphones onto the ground. He kept an eye on the civilian and he prayed she wasn't going to bolt.
He really didn't want to have to run after her just to take some energy...

It didn't seem as if this fight was going to end anytime soon. Kathryn watched the battle progress as the young man seemingly held his own against the creature. Whatever hell she'd stepped into tonight ... she'd just as much want to exit now. Exhaling softly Kathryn pinched her arm quickly just out of reflex to make sure that she wasn't just dreaming. The sound of battle remained and Kathryn realized that this battle wasn't part of her overactive imagination.
The sudden exclamation of anger that issued from the young man caused Kathryn to jump. The creature went flying as she watched. The headphones that he had been wearing suddenly landed on the ground within grabbing distance. Darting forward Kathryn quickly snapped up the damaged item before stuffing it in her bag. Her canister of pepper spray came back up as she watched the stranger. Where had the cat gone? Kathryn sounded out the strange word she'd heard silently. Youma. That was what he'd called it. What were youma?
"What's going on?"

By this point, Jarosite had tackled the youma and impressed greatly upon it that if it wanted to live, it was going to run off and find a different civilian to terrorize and attract senshi activity when he sent it flying. He wasn't sure it would sink in or not, if it even would listen him to. But he punted it anyway and heard it faintly fall into an alley across the street. It wasn't coming back so that was a good sign... right?
Whatever. He had energy to drain. He glanced back at the woman who looked mighty confused. His head tilted for a moment as he thought.
Jarosite walked over and took her hand, bending down as if to kiss the back of it. "You are now safe, miss," he said softly. He closed his eyes for a moment before latching onto her energy and drawing it out. "Now sleep..." He flicked his silver eyes up at her, watching with the barest hints of a smirk in his eyes.

Kathryn watched as the creature - err youma (she'd remember that word) was once again punted off into the distance. This time though it didn't seem to want to come back. Crisis averted. Her hand dropped the can of pepper spray into her bag as she watched the young man approach. Surely if he'd helped by fending off the attack that he couldn't be that bad.
There was still something though in the air that caused Kathryn's unease. Her grey eyes narrowed as the gentleman reached for her hand and grasped it gently. Almost immediately she squelched the reaction to pull it away. His words seemed to absolve her worry. Soon though she wondered if that had been the right decision. Her limbs began to feel heavier than usual and Kathryn narrowed her gaze in suspicion. He was causing this.
Her eyes widened once more but it was too late to act. Her gaze locked onto the young man before with an unusual intensity as she tried to communicate silently. Why are you doing this?. With that silent message passed Kathryn's eyes closed and she became limp.

"To protect you... because you cannot save yourselves." He spoke quietly as he moved her back to her blanket and covered her with the extra ones. It would look as though she'd just fallen asleep in the park, instead of getting energy drained. He swished the energy around in his hand before shoving it in his pocket and dashing off for the roof tops, eager to fill his quota and go to bed.
And hopefully no more youma would get in his way tonight. He really didn't have the time for it.

A faint gust of wind played over the motionless figure. It caressed the figure's locks of brown hair playfully. A strand of hair tickled the area around the figure's nose and a hand reached up to brush it away in annoyance. It was this gesture that brought the return of awareness back to Kathryn. Her eyes flashed open slowly and took in the view of the star-studded sky above her. Had she actually fallen asleep while watching the sky above her? The fact that she was lying down covered with a blanket seemed to support this theory.
Just great! Her parents were most likely wondering where she was. Sitting up Kat put a hand to her forehead as a wave of dizziness washed over her. That simple act caused the world to tilt at a dangerous angle. What was going on here? Was something wrong with her?
Gazing around Kathryn located her bag and pulled it towards her. She reached inside and pulled out her cellphone. Turning the device on Kat was startled to realize that it was past 1am in the morning. She was definitely going to get an earful when she got home. As Kat placed the phone back into her bag her hand brushed across something that seemed out of place.
Since she was still fighting the fatigue that threatened to pull her back into dreamland Kathryn unsteadily got to her feet. Investigating what was in her bag would come later - at home. Her eyes traveled around the top of the hill she had chosen for her night-time observation. Somehow she had the feeling that she was missing something. Being very careful Kat packed up her blankets and slung her bag over her shoulder. Everything seemed all right. Her hand came up to cover a yawn as she trudged slowly down the path to the park's entrance. Since it was so late already Kat made a pit stop to pick up a cup of coffee. The bitter liquid would hopefully provide her with enough energy to make the trek home.
