"Lian!" Chris called to the young man from his class as people began to pile out of the room. "You left your pen," he grinned, holding out the item in question for him to take back.
It was just another day at school, and life moved on whether anyone wanted it to or not. Being lectured for an hour and a half on their reading assignment wasn't exactly the worst way of spending his time, but Chris would have liked to get out and get something to eat. He hadn't had anything to eat since the night before, unless coffee counted, but he doubted that it did. It was now mid afternoon and his last class was finally done.
"Do you have a class after this?" he asked Lian, glancing towards the doors down the hall for a familiar face to appear among the other college students. "You've met Daniel, haven't you? We were going to get something to eat if you want to join us. I haven't spoken to you in forever it seems," Chris said with a frown. "How are all your animals? Doing okay? Have you been to the shelter recently...? Ah, then again my hours have been weird so I might have missed you..." he rambled, trailing off when he caught sight of purple hair.
"Daniel, over here!" he called, although it wasn't really necessary since both he and Daniel could easily see over most of the heads in the hall. Go figure his best friend would be in the advanced English classes instead of wasting his time with electives.

Daniel was indeed coming out of advanced english class, and looked pleased as a clam about it. He'd done pretty damn good in a test that he'd just got the results of, and there was definitively reason to be proud - after all, english was his second language and he'd just gotten a better score than most of a class-full of native speakers.
At least his english notes hadn't suffered from spending long hours in space. Same couldn't be said for math... sigh.
Chris' voice finally seemed to catch his attention, and he looked back, then started to make his way through the crowd of escaping students to meet up with his friend.

“What?” Sounding a bit more miffed than he actually was, Lian turned around at the mention of his name. “Ah. Thanks,” he mumbled hastily before he took the pen back. He adjusted his backpack, searching through the pockets for his pencil pouch to deposit his pen in.
Lian didn’t like being stationary for such long periods of time. He was an athletic sort of person. As a child he had always participated in sports and now exercising and constantly moving was natural, almost necessary, to him. Obviously, it made school difficult. How could he possibly concentrate when he was itching to at least walk, do some sort of movement? It was a miracle he had managed to cope by utilizing small, fidgety ticks to ameliorate the problem, such as tapping with his fingers or twirling his pen—which he had surprisingly become quite talented at over the years.
“No, why?” As Chris looked in a particular direction, Lian followed his gaze, but found nothing particularly eye-catching. “I’ve briefly spoken with him a few times, yes.” Within the crowd Lian spotted Daniel, who made his way toward them. “I can come along, yes. They’re doing alright—rambunctious as usual.” He scowled, but there was a soft gleam in his eyes. “Yes I’ve been to the shelter. I’ve been going during the usual hours.” Idly, he returned his gaze back to Chris. “Have some things come up? Do you need help with it?”
Once Daniel was within speaking distance, Lian nodded at him. “Hello.”

Chris grinned when Lian agreed to get some food with them, making sure to try and get out of the way of people heading towards their next classes. "Nah, nothing really has come up. Just a lot of school projects. There should be enough volunteers there to take care of normal hours. Just as long as another thirty dogs or cats are brought in all at once," he half joked, knowing that something like that could happen and then there would be even more animals without homes, but they could only do what they could.
"Daniel, you've met Lian, haven't you? And this is Daniel," he introduced the two, before taking a few steps backwards to head for the entry way, wanting to get out of the building before people started fussing about them loitering in the hallway. "I invited Lian to come with us," he explained to Daniel, pushing the first set of doors open to get out of the building, holding it long enough for it to not slam on whoever was behind him, before opening the outer doors.
He opened his mouth to say something else on the subject, but whatever the comment was, it was immediately forgotten. An energy washed over him before he heard the screams, and quickly shot a glance to Daniel.
A youma had somehow made its way on campus??
"Lian, you should get back," he advised, wondering if he should ask Daniel to get back inside as well. He definitely didn't want his friend getting hurt. He, on the other hand, should be fine taking on a youma... hopefully.

It still took some time for Daniel to reach the other two - he was tall, yes, but not very good at pushing people aside to pass through.
By not so good, we meant non-existent, for the most part.
"Yeah, we have a few classes together, I think ? Hey." Soft-spoken, but having Chris around seemed to help him not devolve into a stuttering, shy mess. Thankfully. "Where were you thinking on going ?"
One eyebrow rose at Chris' expression before he heard the screams and tensed. Oh great. That was great.
Space wasn't enough, apparently. "I-I think I forgot one of my books, if you guys don't mind waiting a bit ?"
Yeah, that was pretty much code for Im gonna duck somewhere and power up. I guess. Oh god. SIGH.

Lian nodded understandingly. “Yeah, especially around midterms. Professors really like to pile on projects and papers onto us for some reason. Go figure.” He shrugged, but then grimaced at Chris’ joke. While he was obviously teasing, the idea of such a flood literally made him wince a bit. “Only in your dreams, Chris, and preferably out of mine.” Carnelian had a fondness for animals, but caring for such a number sounded like suicide.
He flanked Chris as the trio strode toward the exit. “I don’t think we decided on a specific place. We could go to the café down the street, I suppose—“ He broke midsentence as terrified shrieks and yells echoed throughout the air. The grip on his backpack tightened. It was another monster attack. He knew it. Carnelian wasn’t a stranger to it. He had encountered one or two before, but Lian had always managed to escape with his speed.
“Get back? What about you?” Lian frowned and straightened up, lightly glaring at Chris. “Do you really expect me to run away and leave my friend behind? You should know me better. I’m staying.” His jaw locked as he stared at Chris with a tight resolve. He would always be there to back up his friends, no matter what the occasion was.

Good, at least Daniel was getting out of the way... or maybe he was just powering up. Oh, great...
Chris took a step forward and then realized that Lian wasn't going to get back. Well, crap. He sputtered at Lian's stubbornness, before glancing over his shoulder to make sure that Daniel had gotten out of sight. Okay, well... At least Daniel could protect his identity. He didn't want his skittish best friend to get into any more trouble than he already got into.
"Lian, please," he practically begged, looking over his shoulder again as he heard the screaming getting louder and the angry roar of what must be a decent sized youma close behind. "s**t," he growled to himself, dropping his bag on the ground and taking off in the direction of the youma. He wouldn't power up just yet. He had to get Lian distracted, but he also couldn't just leave the youma to attack the students.
Maybe if Daniel returned to distract it a bit...
Of course, the youma didn't seem to want to wait. It was a strange, green blob-like creature with a large, gaping hole for a mouth. As if some radiation got into the cafeteria jello and it came to life and... grew. "Oh, what the hell..." Chris groaned, immediately looking for something to hit it with while trying to avoid the students and staff running in direction away from it.

It was definitively easy for Daniel to slide off, more or less unnoticed by Carnelian while he was arguing with Chris, which, unfortunately meant that Chris didn't get the easy way out.
Could he really handle a youma on his own ?
....He hoped so. s**t. Damnit.
The nearest empty classroom did the trick - Naica came running out of it, boots clicking against the floor as he ran toward the screams and the youma.
"I knew there was something inhuman about that jello !" Was the comment Chris got as Naica passed him by. Seriously. The cafeteria's jello was... yeah.
Naica had seemed to have gotten some experience since the last time they'd fought youma together - that is, he didn't just stand, freeze, and stare.
No, he went and smacked the mutant lime jello with his crystal, as hard as he could - which proved to be a little unwise. Blobber took the hit alright, but it did little beyond leave a crystal-sized nick and bounce Naica straight off into some lockers.
Anyone who knew basic physics probably saw this coming. Unfortunately, Daniel was a literature and writing major for a reason.

It was unusual to see Chris looking so distressed. Lian pondered this more. Actually, perhaps not—he had seen a variety of expressions and emotions cross the man’s face. He had been expecting a different reaction from his friend, a positive reaction, but Chris acted like Lian’s word was completely and utterly wrong. Lian threw him a contemplative look. Chris shouldn’t have been surprised by his words. He would always be there to support his friends, no matter the danger. He heard Chris swear before he dropped his bag and ran toward the direction of the screams.
Lian thought common sense dictated that people run away from danger rather than toward it. Sighing, he bent down to scoop up the fallen bag and chased after his companion. Some people ran away from danger, and some people were either stupid or courageous enough to try and help people while throwing themselves into danger at the same time. Lian hoped Chris was the later kind.
An oddly-dressed figure passed by Lian and Chris, muttering something about jello. What? Lian furrowed his brows as he stared at the figures back while he also examined the unusual attire. This person must be a loony. Then he looked farther ahead and finally saw the thing that held everyone’s attention. It was…a jello thing. “What the hell is that?” Lian asked Chris once he caught up to him. By the look of things, it seemed that Chris was familiar with it, whatever it was.

Chris groaned as Naica came out past him to fight the blob, not sure if he was all that comfortable in his friend trying to hack at live jello.
Lian though... he didn't seem to want to let him out of his sights. Great. That was just going to make things even more difficult. "Naica, see if you can get it to back into one of the classrooms! Preferably without anyone in there!" he called to the page, looking for something to hit the monster with. For now, he turned to the wall where there was a fire extinguisher and reached out to yank it off. He thought about pulling the alarm to evacuate the building, but that would just mean more traffic would be coming from the upper floors. He didn't want to have even more people in danger.
"Stay back," he warned Lian as he pulled the pin to let him use the extinguisher, making sure that Naica was out of the way so he could spray the monster with the frozen foam. Maybe they could get it to freeze and break off chunks of it? Who knew.
Either way, he had to make sure that his friends weren't put in harm's way, or anyone else for that matter.
"Hey," he called over to Lian, "See if you can grab a chair or something... a ruler... anything to use as a weapon." It would help in keeping the jello creature back.... which was now trying to find the source of the foam being sprayed at it and probably wanting to stop it. Wonderful.

Lure it ? Well, that was worth a try, really, even if the only classroom he was 100% certain was empty was further down the hall...
He definitively didn't want Carnelian to get hurt. Or Chris, as long as he was unable to hightail it and power up.
Pressure ? Yeah, the pressure was off the charts. If anyone got hurt, it would be his fault.
That realisation did have him freeze - long enough to be out of the way to let Chris fire the fire extinguisher at it. Only one of the sides got it, and the knight of cosmos seemed to follow his friend's thought patterns just fine, rushing out for the monster once more. If nothing, he had to get it's attention back before it found Chris.
And sure enough, being smacked with the crystal caused deep cracks. "It's working ! A-Are there more extinguishers around here ?!" Probably not. Kind of a stupid question really.

Carnelian had never fought a monster before. While he may have encountered one or two, he had wisely run away from them. But now, unlike his past encounters with the baffling creatures—these things weren’t supposed to exist, were they?—he was staying, possibly even fighting directly. While he was a studious, determined lad, he didn’t know where to start when it came to fighting monsters. He barely played video games or the like, after all. Lian glanced at Chris. Not like he would ask for any help. He hardly ever did.
As Chris let loose the fire extinguisher, he obligingly obeyed his friend’s command and took a silent step back. Lian remained unusually still as he watched the jelly blob become covered in the white foam. Then he was in motion again as the student searched for a weapon. “Right, weapon.” While Lian snaked his way between fleeing people, he quickly realized how difficult little make-shift weapons there were lying around. There were chairs, sure, but not much else. Scowling, he hurried over to pick one up. He bent down, lifting the lightweight furniture before dropping it. There must be a better weapon lying around somewhere.
And that was when he realized there was something in front of him, but it wasn’t just anything. It…was kind of glowing, but most importantly it was floating
What?
Lian eyed the bag with an indescribable look, his lips parted in baffled shock. “The hell…?” He reached out for it.

"It's working??" Chris sputtered in surprise, not expecting something like freezing a gelatinous monster would be effective. Well, if they could crack it like what Naica was trying to do, then he supposed it could work quite well. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be a lot in the extinguisher and soon it was starting to spit out less and less.
There had to be something else to do to kill the thing... And after a moment of thought, he took the empty canister and chucked it at the blob. It cracked off a few pieces, but not enough to do any damage, and the canister rolled back onto the floor by his feet.
"You okay, Liam?" Chris called over his shoulder when he heard him curse, although he was immediately distracted by the floating bag, golden eyes wide with shock. "You're a knight?" he mumbled incredulously, even before his friend managed to touch the bag. But he was reaching out for it...
Chris shot a wary glance over at Naica, and with a moment to focus his own energy, he powered up to Valhalla. There was no point in hiding it if Lian was a knight as well, although he as curious as to just who he was, and what planet, if a planet at all.

Unfortunately, Naica was completely and utterly unaware that he was seconds away for witnessing the awakening of a new knight. No, the page of cosmos had his own problems - the monster, who still seemed hellbent of ripping him into pieces even after getting smacked with a canister.
Youmas - not known for their brains. Often a good thing, sometime a bad thing.
Well, it was probably a boon - if the youma was busy with Naica, then it wasn't busy with a probably soon to be very confused Lian.
The monster was getting smaller, at least - maybe the two other knights could find another way to hurt it. Naica was still trying to lure it away, through the green splatters on his mostly-white uniform revealed he'd gotten a few good whacks.

A voice in the back of Lian’s head told him not to grab the bag. Glowing items that floated were obviously suspicious. But something called him to it, and the tiny blue symbols on the strap seemed so familiar even though the brunette could’ve sworn he had never seen it in his life before. What was it…? “Yeah. I’m fine,” he called back, distracted. He was only vaguely aware of Chris transforming into a knight just as he finally grasped the bag’s strap.
There was a soothing sensation—almost like a warm wind breezing past him as rushing sand filled his ears—as the bag tumbled into his arms. His first reaction was to check if it had anything useful inside and he clicked his tongue. Nothing! Just a few bits of sand. Then he realized he wasn’t in his regular clothes. “What the hell?” The bag still in his grasp, he looked down and noticed his scarf, which was a shade of blue that matched the symbols that decorated his vest and boots. “Why the hell am I wearing this…?”
Aeolia furrowed his brows, but then shifted his attention to the gelatinous monster, frozen and filled with a few cracks. He remembered that Chris had decided to fight the thing, and he would stay with his friend and do the same. “Chris?” he called out. Now that the bag was a bust—he had really been hoping for something useful in there—Aeolia went over to pick up a chair and threw it. Funny, was it him or was this thing now practically weightless?
