Life was good lately, even if the constant fear of losing Adina, or Jivu clung to his heart. Fara was a new addition, and he even feared that he would lose her too. He just couldnt see giving his heart to lost it all over again. The death of his previous banus, and the cubs they were to birth him was almost too much. But lately he had felt better, feeling the memory, though they would always be with him, dwindle enough so he could regain his life.

He stretched out in the grasslands, obviously away from the pridal grounds but he knew it was okay with his banu. They would busy themselves with other things while he made sure to just get a break once in awhile. They knew he cared.. Hed even go so far as to hunt for them sometimes if they were too tired to be able to.

The sun was warm on his back, and he smiled. It was probably the first real smile he had felt in a while.

User ImageA yawn escaped her lips as she feasted on her dinner. It was a delicious baby zebra and she couldn't have planned it better herself. It was fate that led her to this meal. The little thing had be separated by the herd by some hyenas and wounded. Instead of letting them have it, she chase the two members off and took the baby down herself. Now she was enjoying the tender meat and could almost moan at the flavor. It wasn't her favorite meal, no, but it was close enough. Lately, Luljeta feasted upon rabbits and badgers.

Once her stomach was full enough, she looked to the carcass and grinned. There was still enough meat on the body for a snack later. Stretching out and licking what blood she could off, the female grabbed the zebra by the neck and ignored the blood that spilled over to stain the grass and paws and started dragging it towards her make shift den.

The sun was high and warming her up from the previous chilly night. For that, Luljeta was truly thankful. "Mmm.." She was oblivious to the fact that the blood would attracted other hungry lions.

He wasn't exactly hungry, but that never stopped the male at being curious when the smell of blood hit his nostrils. The coppery scent he could almost taste on his tongue made him want to eat, but he didn't always need to be hungry to get the desire to eat anything. He caught the scent rather quickly, his golde eyes turning towards the origin. He saw the female dragging the small zebra away through the grass.

He worried about approaching, as females tended to be insanely territorial once they had managed to catch a meal. He didn't want to offend but Riad knew better than to just let her go without talking to her. She was pretty, and she almost reminded him of Fara. A pleasant trait indeed.

"Good day!" He called.

A voice put her on edge. It was male and that's all she needed to know. Dropping the zebra, Luljeta stood over it and crouched, growling low in her throat as she looked in the direction of the voice. Indeed, just like most females, she was very territorial over her meal. Damn it, it was hers! No one was going to get it without a fight!

But seeing what talked to her, she blinked and stopped growling all together. Well! He was... really handsome. Smirking mentally, she tilted her head and stayed over the zebra body. This pretty male didn't look like he was hungry. He looked really healthy. He had a shiny coat and no matted fur, so what did he want? Curiosity got the better of this cat.

"....It's a good day, I suppose...." Her voice was hesitant, but not threatening.

Her growl was expected, and it didnt stop him from advancing. He could take a female should she lunge at him, so he really lacked the fear a smaller lion might have had. He was a good sized male, muscled and strong. Though he was lean enough to be quick, and agile.

"Oh but it is a good day. You must think that all the time to make it true." He mused, which was partly true. He believed that good days came from a good mindset. She had caught a zebra, so in effect, it had been a good day! At least in his mind.

"I do not want your meal, my dear. Hostility is not needed." His voice was strong, yet smooth. He didnt want to scare her, nor was he a demanding kind of guy.

Though he said that, the female would still be possessive of the meat she really wanted to devour. Alas, she could not. This male here was preventing her from eating. She would not eat in front of another. Years int the rogue lands had taught her to drag her kill off and find somewhere private to eat unless you wanted to deal with a pack of hyenas trying to steal it. Honestly? She did not want that at all. Pale blue eyes narrowed as she listened to his words.

He sounded like a cub. A horribly optimistic cub that knew no better. Where did he come from to have that kind of mindset? Clearly a pride. No rogue lion in their right mind would have that mind set. Bad days happened even if you wished them good. She was unsure about this day. She had caught a zebra, but encountered a male that seemed intent on talking to her despite the fact she had a meal to get to.

Instead of standing over her meal to chat with him, Luljeta shifted and sat beside it. Her ears flicked this way and that; ever on alert of someone trying to sneak up on her. The smell of fresh blood would draw several out towards her. Damn! She really needed to get somewhere else.

"Do you have a point in talking to me?" She asked, arching a brow as she let her eyes dart to him and then back around.

The spotted male watched as she sat next to her meal, her eyes still scowering around them. He knew she was defensive, because it was a cat eat cat world out there. But where he was from, he didn't have that same rule. There was no shortage of food, and safety where he was from.

Despite what she thought, he knew pain, and he knew caution. He just knew the right times to show each of the emotions. Having lost his mates, and all the cubs in the process, had left him feeling as if he knew the world all too well.

He cleared his throat, flicking his ears back only for a moment, before shrugging.

"I just saw you from across the way. Normally I'm not very good at being charismatic, I hope you can forgive me." He chuckled a little, but looked back from the direction he had come.

"If you want to bring that back to my lands, you'd at least be safe. You wouldn't need to be so protective, and I could still get to know you." He was reaching now, looking for any excuse to get to talk to her. She was lovely, and he felt .. drawn to her.

Hold up. He wanted to just take her back to his pride? She arched a brow and narrowed her eyes a little. This male was clearly delusional. What made him think she was looking for a place to call home? She was, but did it just scream from her body or something? Frowning at that, Luljeta sighed and rolled her light blue eyes before watching him again.

"So you meet a girl, don't even ask her name and try to take her home with you? What, are you a playboy or something," she asked, both brows raised. In shock and amusement, mostly. "I'm not sharing. I killed it, so you can just back off if that's what you're trying to do. Or if you're trying to seduce me, well, you aren't doing a very good job at it." That pale head bobbed a little as she talked. Apparently, Luljeta was a very animated lioness and spoke with body language as well as words. Her ears would flick back and froth, tail would thump against the ground or just move with her words. Sometimes, a paw would come up and wave in the air, as if she could get her point across better like that.

"Who are you, anyway? Tell a girl your name before you offer them a pride, or whatever."

His ears flicked back and he shook his head. Oh no she had completely misunderstood him. Completely. He stammered a little, and then sighed.
"No, not at all. I merely meant that if you were worried about the safety of your kill it's safe there." He tried to clarify. He was far from a playboy, if anything he was rather brave for talking to the female. He had lost all his family and cubs when each of his banu had been killed birthing their litters. His litters. He pushed the thought from his head, though he still felt terrible about her misunderstanding him.

"I no more want to seduce you, than I'd want a giraffe to kick me in my skull. I'm here as a friendly presence. I have no deviant or malicious intentions." He answered, and then watched her movements. Her words were matched with her movements, and it amused him.

"My name is Riad'Naimi. But..I'm called Riad." He looked up at her, his eyes honest and genuine.

"What's your name?"

She watched his face change as he spoke and thought about something. Her expression softened a little as she looked to the kill and then heard a hyena laughing in the distance. Maybe she would take him up on that. She'd be able to eat in peace, wouldn't she? Honestly, fighting off hyenas and letting the meat spoil wasn't something Luljeta really wanted to do. The female felt half starved as it was because of that. Sighing, those ears flicked this way and that in thought.

"I guess I'll follow you. But I'm not joining or anything. I just don't want to fight off the hyenas I hear," she clarified, eyeing him pointedly. With that, she wrapped her mouth around the neck of her prey and watched him, looking at him expectantly. She waved her paw to single him to start walking. This thing, after all, was rather heavy. Even baby zebras had a lot of weight to them.

The sound of the hyena had him at edge. Sure he could kill a hyena, but he wasn't sure about a pack. And there was no telling if there were more until they were right up on you. So when she said she would go, he felt a wave of relief roll over him before he nodded.

"Thanks. I don't really like hyenas much." He chuckled, and stood, ready to head back towards home. He was aware that some of the pride, would likely try to take her. But he was a strong lion, though he was lean. And he was respected, so he was sure no problems would be had.

"I'm not looking to claim you, dear." He said, though honestly he found himself entranced with her. She was beautiful, and smart, and he couldn't help but wish that she would come with him.. That she would love him someday..

When he caught her wave, he turned and began heading back towards home. It wasn't far, so she didn't have far to carry the beast.

Love was the furthest thing from her mind right now. Safety, food, maybe a nap. That was what was on her mind right now. Luljeta followed him, having to stop every now and then because the weight of the zebra became a little too much and made her jaw ache. She was strong, yes, but this zebra wasn't exactly a baby. It was young, yes, but it just a tall, muscular thing.

Sighing a little more, Luljeta worked her jaw as she stopped once and shook her head. Gods above, her jaw was killing her. "Hang on a second. This thing is getting heavier the longer it's dead. Dead weight and all that, after all." She said, sighing heavily. The pale one sat down and let her tail curl around her legs, tail tip twitching this way and that. "Sorry. I just couldn't do it anymore. Let me rest a little more. It's just my jaw. This makes me wish I could dig my claws into it and drag it like that, but I can't." She worked her jaw a little more and sighed.

This was half stupid. She was hungry and was getting even more and more tired.

He turned to see her falter, and drop the baby zebra. Then she had asked for a bit of a break. He could still hear the hyena laughter in the savannah, and he frowned. Why hadn't he already asked if he could help her? Seems he wasn't being as much of a gentleman as he liked to be! Inwardly kicking himself, he closed the distance between them and picked the zebra up in his strong jaws. He had a bit more power to him, and he seemed to do it with ease as he motioned with his head for her to follow.

Once they had walked the distance, he dropped the zebra to the earth, and backed away.. Leaving it for her so that she wouldn't think he had just managed to steal her kill.

"I'm sorry I didn't offer earlier. What you must think of me." He chuckled, and smiled at her.

"Now.. Have I earned the right to know your name?" He teased, remembering she hadn't told him. He layed down, positioning himself so that he was comfortable.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 11, 2012 9:45 am

The laughter of the hyenas made her look back and her ears pin to the back of her head. Okay, a break was far out of the question, wasn't it? Sighing a little, Luljeta just watched the other one, short of breath a little and very nearly growled when he picked up her zebra. Whatever. She wouldn't have to deal with it. Still, she walked on with him and in silence. The pale female liked the silence. Questions couldn't be asked that would make her uncomfortable. Stories weren't swapped that would make her feel pity, and soft hearted. It meant she could keep herself guarded.

Then that all shattered when he spoke again, her ears pinned back. "...Luljeta," she spoke slowly, sighing. No, she wouldn't think he stole her kill. He'd already earned that much of her trust. Which, wasn't much, but it was trust. Lettering her tail flick, she neared her supper and started to dig into it after answering the question. She was absolutely starving.

As she ate, she kept glancing up at him, licking blood off of her muzzle before going back down for more. Finally, when she was finished and the zebra nearly gone, she stepped back to clean herself. "So how far do we have to go?"
