She'd taken her little kit to her dorm carrying it carefully so that she wouldn't tip it or suddenly lose parts from it. Lattice wasn't certain as to what to do with it at all, especially since 'Punishment' didn't fare well when she built it. What made the instructors believe that she'd be able to make anything decent from what was given to her within the kit? Okay so they didn't realize that she was apparently mechanically (and sight) challenged. It wasn't like she acted as if she was blind, Lattice often refused to wanting to keep up with her Twin in spirit and optimism, and for the most part she managed. Padding to her table she set the kit down before she moved to make sure her door was securely closed so she wouldn't be disturbed.

It would be a bad idea to let the projects go unfinished. She shouldn't procrastinate.

Lattice moved to sit at her table and then she removed her mask laying it down on the table. Blind blue eyes stared straight ahead as she got the parts out one by one her fingertips trailing over them as if to better get an idea what she was working with. Maybe she'd do something a little better this round. When she felt confident with something she laid the part down on the table arranging smaller bits in one area and bigger parts in another, and eventually she had everything arranged especially keeping the provided tools near where she could easily 'look' them over with her hands and then use them.

The Engraver took a moment to try and gain a bit more confidence within herself before she started to try and piece things together her head tilted down toward the working area even though she couldn't really see much of anything at all. She wanted to do it blind, maybe it would help her chances but either way she needed to get used to the idea that sooner or later her world would be reduced to just ink much like it was now but at least she saw shapes.

She paused in her diligent work for a moment staring sightlessly toward her lap. There was a thought - a feeling, as if something was amiss though she couldn't quite figure out how or why. Perhaps this is what homesickness felt like? There were no familiar prayers in the air, no one walking quietly along the hallways with the quiet swish of fabric filling the air.

...No Sister asking endless questions.

There was an ache and her eyes stung a bit. Her lips set in a thin determined line as she resumed her work wanting to ignore it. Lattice would not cry or at least she didn't want to cry, and yet tears streamed down her face though she didn't seem to notice or care as she stubbornly kept working. She would finish this and she would draw a picture for her Sister to show her all that she'd accomplished.

That would make it better.

Lattice kept working even when she finally felt her tears dropping from her face and onto her clothing. She didn't care anymore that she was crying she just wanted to get through this ache and finish what she started. Her hands trembled trying to rebel but still she pushed onward until she felt she had done as best as she could to piece together her 'masterpiece'.

She wiped at her face with the heel of her hands so she wouldn't hurt herself and then moved to put on the mask again so she could at least make out the shape of what she had just built. Staring at the large bulky shape before her she wasn't sure what to make of it though it certainly was...Interesting. Shyly she reached out and poked at the surface of the blocked shape and suddenly the contraption shuddered and rolled back a bit, her brow furrowed lightly.

Failure was the feeling that filled her now; she couldn't possibly draw this for Needle to see. This was just embarrassing and something she couldn't show to anyone at all. The ghoul moved to try and take the object apart but it rolled away from her and made an odd clicking sound, Lattice stilled and stared at it.

...Was it alive? How? She couldn't quite comprehend it as she moved to try and pick it up once more only to have it roll away from her and then onto the floor with a loud clatter making her flinch. Lattice shifted a bit and crawled lightly around her table to stare at the sad looking hunk of metal and other parts to see it just hunkered down there unmoving and she was certain that it was now broken.

Quietly, carefully she reached out and poked at it and as soon as her finger made contact with the object there was a sudden whirring sound and Lattice uttered a loud squeak as her eyes widened behind her mask as she collapsed backwards right unto her rear end. She stared as the contraption became sleeker and lower to the ground somehow and the arms adjusted a bit until eventually there was slow moving contraption that uttered an odd soft 'zzzz' sound.

....That was odd. Carefully she moved to pick it up in her hands and it didn't move and just as carefully she tiptoed to her minipets closet and shoved the contraption in there closing the door soon after.
