Recently our old band director left for another position at the richest school in my state. Everyone loved him as a teacher, and we got our new band director.
He's nice and all but he's rushed us into marching band season, just a new guy out of college, and it seems like our band has just gone downhill with him so far. With our old teacher everyone did so well, and now people are complaining, and saying they're going to quit.
Sometimes the new teacher makes me feel like it's not even worth trying, as he doesn't always seem to want to listen to what some students have to say about how we did stuff, before he came. I wish he'd just listen honestly.

Same thing with our new teacher, she will listen to how we used to do stuff, but then change it, especially the song we play every football game for the past who knows how many years.

Both my freshman years (college and high school) have dealt with getting new band directors, and my ol' high school is going through it again this year.
The first year, there's always some awkward head-bucking. Many people, especially upperclassmen, are quick to judge any mistakes or anything significantly DIFFERENT from before. My high school director had more room for change than my college one does; he graduated from my college, so he's got roots there and tries to announce the correct pep tune at the right time, etc. Some people enjoyed learning multiple (up to 7) field shows per season; the new guy cut down the individual number of shows to 4, but two had no or limited drill (but lots of dancing and playing!).
So, the first year, go easy on him. Since he's fresh out of college, he's probably gonna try to be TOO controlling so that he thinks he's got a grip on the kids. The second year, judge all you want. XD
