The sun was just rising over the horizon, it’s ascent watched silently by Bayu’seta. The dark hyena lay across a night-cooled rock, blue eyes fixed upon the sky. It’s multiple hues kept her attention for a short while before she finally pulled herself to her feet, stretched, and left the rock in search of food. A quick breakfast didn’t take too long to catch, and after her small meal she set out towards the river that flowed near her home. She came to a halt above it, standing on the edge of an earthy outcropping, below which the river flowed. After a quick look around to make sure there was nothing of immediate thread around, and an extra pause after to listen just in case, she slowly descended towards the water. Her mind went over what she might do during the day as she crouched and drank her fill from the cool waters.

The riverbank was already occupied with another hyena though. Bluu-Masad chewed gleefully on the haunch of a young wildabeest that a crocodile had killed and discarded. His coat wet up to his thighs and shoulders, mud caking his paws. It was obvious that he had gone into the water to retrieve his meal. It had been quite a while since he had gotten his fill on any kind of real meat. Mice just didn't cut it anymore! They were just too tiny and too hard to catch, at least for him.
On one his usual glances around to make sure there weren't cheetahs, or the gods forbid; a lion, coming to take his meal, he spied another on the other bank. “Heymph thur pretmy thangh!” Bluu-Masad called out, meat still stuffed into his cheek, a bit of drool sliding down his jaw while he kept a large grin on his face. Though his hollering wasn't exactly loud at all due to the muffling from his face being full, but the male hyena hoped it was maybe enough to grab her attention.

Bayu stepped in to the shallows of the river to clean off the dirt that had gathered from her descent down the slope. As she moved back on to the bank she heard a call. Though it wasn’t loud she could tell it was nearby. With ears perked she raised her head to find the source, her blue eyes falling upon the male hyena who was standing over a wildabeest haunch, and by the looks of him and the meat it had been dragged out of the river. The male was grinning towards her, his mouth full of the kill of another beast and drool falling from his maw. With a smirk on her face she moved along the bank, coming to a halt adjacent from the eating male. “You look like a mess, and a fool as well. Surely you could swallow before attempting to speak, especially to a lady.”

The grin vanished quickly as she spoke, having been replaced with his jaw hanging open. Bluu-Masad couldn’t help but stare for a moment at her. Had she really just said that to him? He had expected something like others he had fought off: a matriarchal b***h trying to ‘put him in his place’. This female was stern but yet...had a surprisingly good rump to look at, though all he got was a glance. Hastily he cleaned his maw, wiping the remnants of his meal on his shoulder instead of the sand. His pelt could be washed later but dirt on his face was just not happening. Forcing a slightly painful swallow of what was left in his mouth, the male hyena finally replied, “S’cuse me then miss, I’m Bluu-Masad thouhg, uh, you could jus call me Bluu if ya like.”

A brow quirked in amusement as she watched the male hastily wipe his face, before forcing the last remnants of his food down. She felt quite pleased that he had actually listened. She wasn’t keen on having a physical fight if it could be avoided, and she had not known how the male would have taken her comment, or rather insult perhaps. However things had gone better than expected, and she was certainly not complaining. Bayu’seta gave a small nod towards the male before replying. “Quite alright, Bluu was it? It is nice to meet you. I am Bayu’seta, though you may call me Bayu.”
Bayu sat down on the bank, her head cocked slightly to the side as she looked the male over once more. "I don't believe I have seen you around here before, and I am sure I would have remembered had I. What brings you to this area?"

Bluu-Masad glanced back over to the remaining part of his meal from earlier as she asked him his business. "Food." Was the simple reply the other got in return. His eyes turned back to her, a sort of lop-sided grin coming back to his face. "Food was hard ta find where I used ta live. S'still hard here too, but I figure it's better even if I have to wrestle a croc for it." Of course that last bit was just him pumping his own ego, something he would never actually do with him being too scared to go near that kind of large reptile.
"Wha 'bout you, Miss Bayu? You live round here?"

“I see.” Bayu wasn’t too surprised by the answer, it was a valid enough reason for the male to have come here. It wasn’t a bad choice of areas either. While the food was not in over abundance it usually wasn’t too hard to find a meal, even if one did decide to make a meal of another animal’s leftovers. “I see, that sounds quit unfortunate of a place.” Bayu paused for a moment, an amused look on her face as she looked from him to the haunch and back again. “Fight a crocodile, hmm? Is that how you managed to get that meal there?” She gave a soft chuckle before nodding. “Yes, my home is not too far from here.” She motioned towards the area behind her with her head before continuing, “I live off that way. The area has some good shade if you happen to require a place to stay for the time being.”

“Nah, he ran off when he saw me comin’. Good thing too. I woulda whooped him real good.” Bluu-Masad’s chest puffed out a bit, his head held a little higher as he spoke so proudly of himself. Though his stomach seemed it fit to growl in the middle of his speaking. “It wasn't too bad, ya'see I was a tough little guy. Livin' in those parts made me real tough." The hyena paused again, taking this time to lean to the side to look past her. " Oh I see! Well that’sa good thing. A purty lady like you shouldn’t be wanderin’ in these heat.” He paused, eyes a little bit wider as she offered her home to him. “Are ya sure? I wouldn’t want to intrude or nothin’. Ya sure are a kind lady Miss Bayu. I promise not to be no trouble.”

“Oh, well that was surely a smart move on that crocodile’s part. I’m sure had he stayed his carcass would be lying on that bank as well.” Another soft chuckle escaped her, unable to stifle it. She was certainly enjoying feeding the male’s ego, and he was taking it all quite willingly. And not only that he seemed just as willing to try and throw compliments back her way, in his own way anyhow. “Yes I am quite sure. And if you are any trouble I’ll simply kick you out on your tail, so you best behave.” She gave a grin, making sure to show off some of her teeth.
Bayu’seta turned and started to make her way slowly back up the slope, glancing slightly over her shoulder towards the male. “Once you have finished your meal feel free to come by. It’s only a short walk away,” She paused at the top of the slope and looked back down towards Bluu, “and I’m sure a tough guy like yourself can manage to find it.” With a grin she turned and trotted off towards her den.

“I sure will Miss Bayu!” Bluu-Masad called after her, taking the time to tilt his head a bit to the side, watching her walk back up the slope. With a grin on his face and her out of sight, he happily resumed his meal that lay waiting beside him. After that he’d clean himself up, make himself presentable to the other hyena and then make his way over to her place.
