Name: Rufet
Age: 12 Turns
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Candidate/Apprentice Baker
History:
Rufet is a weyrbrat through and through, the result of a Flight between a greenrider and craftsperson. It wasn’t something as amazing to brag about when growing up with other kids that boasted of their brown and bronzerider parents, but it was certainly better than being from a red or black or whatever the alternative colors were. Not that he knew that such couplings were near impossible and quite far from Benden Weyr.

When it came time to apprentice him, it was… quite a trying time. He lacked the dexterity for tailoring and the stamina for minecraft. Harpercraft revealed that he had a good set of lungs, however his volume did not make up for how far off key he sang. Rufet found his place in the kitchens, scouring the pots and pans and acting as an extra hand as he worked to find his place.

Rufet was quite at home in the pots and pans – a choice that others had made for him. Apprentices were quick to discover how difficult it was for him to say no and took advantage, giving him the unsavoury and boring tasks. Scrubbing pots, pans, peeling potatoes, turning the spit – Runfet has done them all, though if anyone was to go looking for him the pot and pan pile would be the first place to look. Plates were a hazard, as he ended up dropping and shattering many before he was told to stick to pots.

There was a thin line between kitchen work and drudgery, and Rufet was toeing it. He did not want to spend the rest of his life doing this sort of work. Yes, his hands were unusually clean and he was free to concentrate on his task. But was it really the life he wanted to life? Rufet wanted the adventure, wanted the chance to go places just like in the Harper tales. Maybe he’d get to ride on a dragon if he was lucky, but with Benden’s infertility? It was nothing more than a dream, a fancy he kept to himself. Scrubbing pots were easier if he imagined that his rag was a dragon, flying amongst the soap-clouds scouring away the blackened Thread. It certainly made it more exciting! But it was a dream, nothing more.

He envied and looked up to the dragonriders, slowing down in his tasks in order to try and overhear them whenever they came near him or came into the kitchens. Where did they go? What did they do? They always fascinated him, moreso when they left in search of the mysterious Mystweed. When the Time Riders returned, eyes wide and mouth hanging open as he stared at their scars. The meaning of Thread and the dangers it held were lost to him. All he saw before him were dragonriders and dragons that were even more amazing than they were before. They were heroes! They brought back the Mystweed! They… they… he had a chance.

The Mystweed helped the dragons make eggs, right? And if there’s eggs… he was almost old enough to Stand… Could he become one? Rufet held onto this desire, putting his all into his work and wishing with every fibre of his being. Oh please, oh please, oh please.
Yirath had Risen and laid a clutch of eggs. She had Risen. There were eggs! Rufet dared to hope. Maybe, just maybe...

Description:
His body type in one word could be described as “pudgy.” Or even “chunky.” Maybe even “rolly-polly” if a Harper was asked to describe him. He is not physically fit, nor is he fast or strong. He ambles along at his own pace, moving with vocal gasps as he constantly chases after his own breath. When he does move, he moves with his shoulders hunched and eyes down, angled so that he pays more attention to someone’s feet than what they’re carrying. He has ducked under someone more than once only to run into what they were carrying.

Rufet has tanned skin, dark brown hair, and dark brown eyes. He wears his hair at medium length, short enough so that it does not fall down his back yet long enough to hide his ears. His ears stick out quite a ways from his head, making him look more like a wherrybeast than a boy.

For a boy his age, Rufet has clean hands with well-trimmed nails. His hands are usually red, the fingers especially pruney after scrubbing pots. It’s not unusual for his sleeves to also be wet, or for anything else on his person to be so either.

Personality:
Even at twelve turns, Rufet acts quite a lot like a child. He is quite apt to create games in order to amuse himself, letting his imagination take flight. The only drawback is that quite often he goes too far to the point of being oblivious to his surroundings. It’s not that he means to grab a slippery plate with slippery hands, only to miss catching it and have it shatter. He doesn’t mean to run into people, either. It’s an honest mistake! Really! Would you please forgive him? He’ll work extra hard to make it up, please give him a chance and don’t report him please please pleaseeee!

When Rufet offers to make up for something, he means it. He will give everything is all in order to make amends for anything he’s done. While he may not be very good at whatever is asked of him, he will do his best. And if that’s not good enough, he’ll keep working until someone actually tells him that it’s okay, he did a good job.

Rufet listens to his elders. Anyone that’s older than him quite obviously to him Knows What They’re Doing, and he listen to them unquestioningly. This doesn’t mean that he’s gullible to the point of doing everything someone asks of him, however – the only people with that privilege are those who are directly in charge of him and have Authority That Should Not Be Questioned. Peers? He’ll listen, but he just needs to finish scrubbing these pots first before he can help you. Do you want to help him? No? Okay...

In terms of speed, Rufet is physically slow. If asked to go run an errand, Rufet will be able to jog out of the room, around the corner, and down part of the hall before he’d slow to a loud and noisy huff huff huff. He simply isn’t the sort that can move around thanks to ample handouts and “sampling” in the kitchen. Upstairs mentally, Rufet can also be considered slow. He quite likes to mentally chew through his thoughts and ideas like a piece of chewy meat in order to select the best option. And to him, the best option is the one that doesn’t get him noticed. He gets spooked rather easily, often jerking noticeably as a result.

Other: IT’S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME I bet Rufet could do an impressive truffle shuffle.

Name:Torsheth
Colour:Brown
Inspired by:Tortoise Shell
Personality:
Torsheth, like most browns, knows the value of a hard day’s work, and at his size he’s more than capable of doing his fair share. He’s even up to helping others with their loads, but it’s not just his love of physical exertion that makes him glad to be of assistance. Torsheth is all around a kind dragon. He understands that everyone needs a little help sometimes and that teamwork can overcome what independence can’t. Without hesitation, he will come to the aid of others. However, Torsheth is not necessarily the brightest dragon of the weyr. Puzzles, riddles, and the social intricacies of the weyrfolk will never be the strong suit of this somewhat naive brown. Being well-meaning himself, he tends to overestimate the honesty and goodness of others, and it will be more than once that he lends his assistance to some blue or green too lazy to do their own load. However, Faranth help whoever betrays Torsheth’s trust! He may not easily spot deceit, but he truly can’t stand it when it’s routed out. Perhaps having so much trouble spotting duplicity makes it more disturbing to him, but whatever the cause, being lied to makes him feel hurt and especially indignant.

Except when such cases move his infrequent anger, Torsheth is usually affable and mellow. He enjoys jokes (well, simple ones anyway), relaxing with his wingmates at the end of the day, flirting with greens, and other simple pleasures. Not being very intellectual, Torsheth can get confused trying to deal with complex social situations, and he’s reluctant to talk about emotions in great depth. Despite this, his honest and simplistic approach to communication makes him easy to like and rely on. Once befriended, he’s loyal to the end. In return, Torsheth’s trust is easy to gain, and there’s no ends he won’t go to for a comrade. Even in the face of conflict, be it emotional or physical, Torsheth is ready to stand in defense of his weyr, his rider, and those who need him.

His rider will find as faithful and dedicated a friend as could be asked for in Torsheth, but they may find themselves pushed to their limits by their work-driven brown. Further, it will be the duty of his bonded to compensate mistakes Torsheth might not catch. Luckily, the brown’s diligence will make repeated mistakes infrequent, but his rider will also have the added duty of safeguarding Torsheth from those would might take advantage of him.

Why me?
Rufet is very earnest, and while he may be no more immune to mistakes than Torsheth is, his diligence will often make up for the days when Torseth just can’t quite learn something new quick enough on his own. In return, this brown will be there to remind to keep Rufet on-task. Being a forgiving sort, Torsheth won’t be upset by Rufet’s occasional flights of fancy – though he won’t perfectly understand them either. This brown likes games for fun as well, but he lives too much in the real world to understand getting so carried away. Still, he knows His does the best possible, and he’s happy to work alongside his bonded and offer encouragement. Furthermore, Torsheth and his mellowing influence will be on hand whenever Rufet gets nervous. Torsheth knows how to do his job, and his most important duty is looking after his. His caring attitude and occasional suspicion of those who might be lying to him and His might make the brown a little overprotective at times, but he means well, and if anyone can soothe this dragon it would be his “Rufetmine.”

[touchy touch]

Dragonflight Pern

- The Unpolished Azure Egg sits slightly back from the center of the clutch, and leans towards the Resilient Warped Egg, perhaps concerned for its sibling.

Unpolished Azure Egg - The Unpolished Azure Egg is one of the larger of the clutch, and judging by its size is probably a brown or small bronze. This rich blue egg has a rough surface, but the feeling it gives off is much smoother. A mellow and welcoming sensation is given off from being touched, and the dragonet inside seems to appreciate and trust any who visit it. Should a candidate touch the egg with negative emotion, however, the egg will give off a feeling of slow confusion and try and give some comfort.

Samuel Carlin

So [Cormeric] let them go ahead while he considered which egg he'd visit first. He wouldn't be diving in to the middle of the clutch, not just yet. He made a half circle around the eggs before deciding to go for one on the edge, at the back of the rest of the group. He wiped his hand against his trousers before laying it against the surface of the Unpolished Azure Egg. A smile tugged at his lips as he brushed his palm against the rough shell's surface, slowly back and forth. No harm in giving the dragonet inside a slight scratching through the shell, as much as he could. All cramped up in there, it was bound to have an itchy spot someplace, and the texture felt nice against his palm. Someone would be very comfortable with their hands on whatever--whoever--waited inside this egg.

elfgurl1234

Worried though he was for the egg, Kanen needed to move on, and the next one that he came to was the Unpolished Azure egg. As if responding to his worry, the dragonet inside tried to give him a bit of comfort, even if seeming rather confused. He couldn’t help a small smile at this. Sorry, just worried about your sibling. You’re a rather nice one though. I do hope you can find Yours quickly once you hatch.

Duelist of Pokemon

Amused as she was, she had to move on. The Queen seemed restless for some off reason; Mya had decided it was better to keep moving. Slipping through her fellow candidates to avoid running into them, she made way towards where the Resilient Warped Egg and the Unpolished Azure Egg were; the Warped was bumpy to the touch and...aggressive? impatient? She, again, chuckled and gave the egg a gentle petting. "Don't worry, little one." She whispered softly as she stood to move on. "You'll be out soon, I promise. Everyone can't wait to see you."

Spying the Unpolished luster of the egg, she slipped in and laid her hands on its surface, letting the mellow aura sooth her heart tremors of nervous excitement. It was rough to touch like the former, but much smooth. The coloring was beautiful as well. Something to be admired for sure.

Kuhlii
Pahlan was lingering over the Unpolished Azure Egg, frowning faintly at the slow, dull-edged thoughts within when Jordan caught square off-balance and nearly tipped him onto the egg. He dodged, took an ungraceful half-step and stopped, panic writ large in his expression until his balance caught and he straightened. Where! That was close.

"Jordan, you..." A glance at the Queen and he lowered his voice to a conspiratorial hiss, "You really are going to get me eaten, you know that?"

magnadearel
A bit overwhelmed, Falawny moved off across the sands. He came up to the Gilded Verdant Egg. When he laid his hands upon the egg it’s pride came through clearly. A soft chuckle escaped him as the egg tried to preen. It puzzled him how it planned to use entertainment and cunning to get what it wanted. Moving past Verdant egg to come up to the Unpolished Azure Egg. The rough texture of the egg surprised him. Despite it’s shell it was a mellow egg. He smiled as the egg seemed gratefully that he’d stopped to say hello. Leaving it with a pat, he moved on.

Vampire-Dragon-Lover
Really Viddle didn’t know anything about what the dragons themselves had to learn, but she knew she was right about the rushing bit of her advice, life should be savored not rushed through. Hoping she’d gotten through to the dragonet, and maybe eased some of its frustration she stood and walked to another egg. It was never good to be frustrated, I couldn’t be good to be frustrated and trapped in an egg. Still smiling she moved toward the Unpolished Azure Egg She thought this egg was quite pretty. Despite its rough surface she caressed the egg lightly like the others and let her eyes slide closed. She liked the way this one felt toward her. It was sort of a relief after the scare, and the frustration, to be accepted.

Greetings young one, you are quite the mellow fellow aren’t you? That’s good, I suspect your life will be a great one. Thank you. May you find Yours swiftly.

She gave the egg one last pat before moving on. She felt relaxed and much calmer after visiting that egg. [...]

Rhiannon Chandra
"She's more worried about the Queen egg. Don't worry about it," Jordan recommended. Pahlan worried too much. Easy target for Jordan's not-so-nice teasing. Luckily for his new friend, Jordan was willing to let the teasing of the moment slip away as he rested his hand on the Unpolished Azure egg, one he hadn't yet visited. Huh. Pleasant, in a quiet kind of way. Mellow, actually. A mellow egg. What color would this be? Brown? Bronze? A reeeeally big Blue? The whole Clutch looked like it was going to hatch into monstrously sized dragons.

Meepfur
The Unpolished Azure egg seemed confused by [Lilah's] attitude, which only prompted a shrug from the girl. Not everyone got her stubborn pessimism, and that was fine.

magnadearel
Unpolished Azure Egg fell under her touch. [Emkin] nodded greeting to the pleasantly welcoming egg.

Marushii

There was one more egg before he needed to draw towards the center of the clutch: the Unpolished Azure egg. And it was large. Rufet was hesitant to approach it, moving one tiny step at a time until he could reach out and touch it with his fingertips. It wasn’t as rough as he was expecting. He felt as confused as the dragon inside it, moving closer only after being prompted to. This... this was an egg Rufet wanted to curl up and sleep next to. The feelings were so nice, so comforting that Rufet was reluctant to leave.

[Hatching + Impression]

Dragonflight Pern
Still calling out the boys as he reached the front line, the bright bronze started moving carefully amongst them and nudging those he passed by very gently. When he reached the back of the group he gave a slightly perplexed - and very loud - warble. Where was His hiding? Calling out yet again he started off through the boys once more, taking a different route this time to bump against different candidates. Where was His? Surely he was here somewhere!

The green meanwhile had stopped dead, and was regarding the girls calculatingly. After a few moments, she as the bronze was making his way through the boys for the second time, she set off confidently once more with her head held high.

[HI TREETH!]

As another Impression was made Yirath let out a quiet keen, dipping her head to nuzzle at her still unhatched eggs. Perhaps stirred by her touch, the Unpolished Azure Egg began to rock rhythmically, almost methodically. Keening once more Yirath gave it another nudge, watching the fractures appear as if they were the only thing in the world. In that moment to her mind - as cracked as the shell she studied - perhaps it was.

Dragonflight Pern
The Unpolished Azure Egg wriggled a little more before cracking open, allowing a brown dragonet with strikingly patterned wings to clamber to his feet. Once he had got his balance he raised his head to look around at the new world he found himself thrust into... and came face to face with his mother. Eyes fading from a mixture of alert green and hungry red through to grey he whined and lent up to touch muzzles with her. Something was wrong, very very wrong. Could he do anything to make it okay? Yirath's low mournful keen was his answer, and he didn't like it. Giving a whine of his own he nudged her again, seeming reluctant to go away and leave her when something was so wrong.

For all that she was no longer what she had been however the queen knew her duty: she nudged him gently but firmly towards the candidates before turning her attention back onto the rest of her clutch. For a few moments the young brown stood stock still looking up at the mighty gold, a constant low keen escaping his throat but before long hungry red crept back into his eyes and with head and wings drooping he turned away.

Back amongst the boys the bronze had stopped and reared up on his hind legs to watch the scene play out between his brother and mother, keening in sympathy with them. In doing so however he spotted something he had in fact already registered at the back of his mind when he had been pressing up against her leg, desperately trying to keep her from hurting the girl.

Back. Back. Back.

Stay safe.

Of course!

Eyes lighting up, the bronze bugled a greeting and quickly - but carefully - shoved right back to the front where he'd been to start with.

[HI ORTHOTH!]

Dragonflight Pern
As the brown headed towards the boys - glancing over his shoulder every so often - more eggs began to sit in Yirath's protective, possessive grasp. This time it was the Bursting Shard Egg and the the Honorable Champion Egg moving, and while the Champion was rocking and twitching more vigorously the Bursting Shard seemed to be making more real progress with cracking its shell.

The brown meanwhile had reached the boys and now sat back on his haunches, peering from face to face as his siblings had before him. He still seemed to be having trouble focusing on the task at hand though; he kept glancing back at his mother helplessly, looking as sad and confused as ever a dragon could. As he watched, the Bursting Shard Egg cracked open to reveal a very vivid blue who quickly scrabbled upright with a happy trill. Just as his brown brother had he then quickly did a double-take at his mother and let out a sad little whine. For a few moments he looked up at her with saddened grey eyes but then - quite unlike his brother - he touched noses with her only briefly and crooning what could be a gentle goodbye he clambered over her foreleg and trotted towards the boys with a flicker of green already returning to his eyes.

Apparently his brother's movement finally reminded the brown of what he ought to be doing and so, tearing his eyes away from Yirath, he scanned the ranks of boys once more. As his brother came up beside him and nudged him playfully, the brown gave a fond rumble and nudged back.... And paused, eyes lighting up as he spotted the one.

[TORSHETHHHHHHHH!]
