The bats' swarming patterns have been strange lately; there seems to be something on their minds. I suppose I have no way of telling what, exactly, that would be. At least they seem healthy, which is all we can ask for, really, after what they've done for us.
That's not what is troubling me today, though, and I fear that this will be something to keep me up tonight, and many more after, unless a solution presents itself. Something tragic has happened. Or not happened, rather. The Ambassador returned to me this afternoon, all in a frenzy. I asked him where the cart was, the cart of medicine and supplies that he always brings back with him on such trips. But he told me there was no cart, no supplies, no Percival, the deliverer from the outer world, waiting for him at the cave entrance. Our supplies have always come on time; never have we had a problem like this. Percival knows how very desperate we are for the arrival of supplies each month, and I'm frightened of what will become of my people if we don't receive them.
I am terrorized by the thoughts that something is very wrong Outside.

ℓєανιηg will prove to be the most difficult thing the Vespertilian people will ever do. It has never been done before, and is the very essence of all bat children's nightmares. But if they don't leave, there is a possibility that life as they know it will end without the supplies that once came each month. Any first Vespertilian members that came from Outside at the beginning have long died off centuries ago, and none have ventured beyond the caves since. It is a common fear as to what lays out there; some Vesper citizens are certain of sure death, others speak of unknown monsters. Yet more reason that Percival, the supply deliverer, was kind enough to them, that the world cannot be as horrible as many imagine. But there is one thing they all seem to agree on: if they don't get their supplies, Vesper will become a civilization of yesterday, and that is something they cannot allow to happen.

νєѕρєя, the secret city of Vespertilian people, or bat people, is nestled deep within the world's largest network of caves. Unknown to 99.99% of the rest of Earth's population, this city thrives off an area of roughly one hundred acres, known as the Square, that was once hidden in darkness. Before Vesper's time, the thin shale ceiling of these hundred acres crumbled in an earthquake. allowing sunlight to seed the floor and become what is now the Vespertilian's agricultural land. They farm only plants, mainly fruit trees with vegetables scattered beneath them, as they are largely vegetarian, except for the occasional cricket stew or snail pot pie. Everybody does their part in helping out the community.
As for the actual city, all buildings were carved or built up under the rock of the ceiling that surrounds the farming area. This rock is much sturdier than the shale that disappeared centuries before, with no worry of it tumbling or cracking. No structures are allowed to be built in the Square, mainly for the reason that they would take up precious farming space, but also because the Vespertilian people would like to remain unknown to the outside world, and although aircraft have only passed over once or twice in the years of the mechanisms' existence, some fear that their presence could be detected by those flying far above.

вαтѕ are a hugely important part of the Vespertilian people's lives. Although the two groups are not related in any sense, despite the latter being called bat people, they have a connection to one another. In their early days, civilians of Vesper learned how to live in the caves from the bats. They discovered the separate divisions of the network by following the creatures, and that resulted in maps of rooms, openings, vents, underground rivers; everything they could possibly need to know. The bats are very friendly with Vespertilians, some - outcasts, especially - even make themselves the domestic pets of the people. Additionally, the citizens use the guano, or dung, of the bats to fertilize their crops, and, to the bats' benefit, the crops draw in bugs for them to eat. The buildings created have also provided blockage from drafts into the caves from the Square, and so allow the bats to have a warmer hibernation, as well.

¢нαяα¢тєяѕ:
Please completely fill out a character profile from the code below and PM it to me, True Sparrow. It is recommended that you choose a Latin name (first, middle and last) for your character. As for duty, you can pick ambassador (note that there can be only one ambassador), farmer, blacksmith, tailor, etc. Pick an age that is appropriate - not every character can possibly be 22. The others are fairly self-explanatory, but companions can only be bats.
