Stellaluna was astonished to have been chosen as the new Shaman of her pride. She had been a nervous wreck a few days after she learned of it; but she was slowly getting more confidant with herself. She was the SHAMAN and she was going to be the best Shaman she could be. Soon her training would begin and she would take the essential steps towards her new position.

Her mother was so proud. She had been proud of her high ranked children anyway; but to have two of her children becoming so important to the pride. It seemed the Great Moon had blessed Mawu's lineage. Here, she had something to live for.

She sat and gazed up at the stars; her lilac eyes half lidded as she thought to herself.

Unyezi had been going through a lot of emotions lately, starting with the pain of losing another daughter and continuing most recently to where he was no longer an openly trusted source of information in the pride. He was happy his grandchildren, ones he actually knew, interacted with and loved very much, were being so successful despite this. He knew his marriage and Ulivuma's marriage must have made it harder but there was no reason Stellaluna and Caritas shouldn't have been trusted to take on such important roles.

He knew it was a bit of a risk, going out to visit Stellaluna openly but it was nighttime and they were still close family. He wasn't supposed to be allowed to help teach her but he could still congratulate her. It was luck that he managed to find her in the dark of the night, but it was easy to guess she wouldn't be far from the central lands- especially while the paranoia had yet to die down.

"Congratulations," he said, walking up to her, smiling.

Stella had not noticed her approaching Grandfather. She was going to be so busy now, that she had let herself be absorbed into the night sky. Above, the moon shown down upon her and offered safety and comfort. She sighed, just as he spoke. She startled slightly, her ears flicking towards him before she turned to him; but a smile replaced her attitude. "Grand-papa!" She said softly. She knew it was probably not going to be considered proper to visit him during her time of training. She could understand why her pride felt that way.

She would not turn him away. "Thank you! I can't believe it. I am nothing like the last Shaman... There's so much I have to do... in so little time..." She stood and went to him quickly. so happy to see him

Unyezi only smiled at her as she stammered to get out what seemed like it had to be every thought she had on her appointment. He didn't stop moving until he was close enough to give her an affectionate nudge and then he stepped back to take a seat so they could chat.

"The way I heard it, Selene really liked you," he said, beaming, "I'm sure you'll do fine, everybody knows you need some time to learn."

His tail swayed behind him. He understood why the pride didn't want him to help but he didn't have to like it- as a grandfather or as the former King.

She beamed and leaned against him for a moment before composing herself. At the mention of Selene approving of her, she leaned back and lifted her head proudly. To her, everything mattered about this. The honor. The responsibility. Everything. "Yeah. I get to be taught by everyone it seems... There's so much to learn.. and already I will be needed soon enough, with the anticipated pregnancy..." She nodded to herself. "And we haven't had new members joining in a while... It'll be nice to have some coming in again."

She looked a bit flustered for a moment. So much responsibility.

"I had wanted to come to you back when father mentioned that I'd do well as Shaman... but... I was so flustered at the thought.. but I sort of knew you'd approve..."

"Well, it seems to me there is at least one lion waiting around to be join," he said, referring of course to Fuu, the foreign prince whose purpose here was unclear at this point.. though he seemed to be functioning as a distraction. But what Unyezi knew from being King, he had other suspicions, too.

"It's alright," he reassured her when she explained why she hadn't come to talk to him about it before, "Your father has been keeping me updated, you lot are awful busy lately."

He chuckled.

She nodded. "Yes. And with my sister becoming Midwife... seems our family is very successful... My mother is just... ecstatic. Especially with her so many people that are important to her being... well.. important." She shrugged at her wording. "Her brothers a guard. Her children are high ranked. Two daughters are being vital members of the pride."

She smiled. "I'm glad Father has been keeping you up on it all... I know it's probably..." She paused and looked like she was searching for the words. "...difficult considering..."

"Considering the circumstances?"

He wasn't positive what she was getting at, there were many things he figured were making his life difficult right now.. but he was trying his best not to let it get him down. None of it was anything Stellaluna ought to be worrying about, especially.

"The pride doesn't like me much right now but your great aunt knows what is best," he said, his voice lowering in volume ever so slightly though he was sure they wouldn't be overheard here anyway, "You may be surprised to learn how many secrets the shaman has but the first of yours, it seems, will be learning from me. Despite what the pride thinks."

It was a tricky situation but he was the most reliable source of information.

She nodded, happy that her grandfather had said the words that she didn't want too. Her pride was not happy with him, nor were they probably happy with her father; for their past choices. Yet, it pained her that someone that was important to her life, despite his rank, was not going to help. Her expression showed the heart ache. Yet when he spoke, she lowered her ears. "Grandpapa. You really... well... you are gonna tell me secrets?"

She looked a bit torn. To listen to her Grandfather and learn things from him.. would be against the pride. But... he did know a lot.

"We'll see how many I can remember, but I'm the one with the longest experience with the shaman now," he explained, knowing she looked torn about going against the pride- this was the one worry about Stellaluna being shaman. She would have to find a way to balance out her honesty and the things the shaman knew and did that the majority of the pride just didn't need to know.

"Whether or not the pride will accept it, it's the truth," he said, "Shira was always around for the major lessons but I've helped pass on the information with four rulers, or future rulers, now. They are all capable but we stand to lose a lot of knowledge without everybody working together."

He smiled.

She nodded slowly, knowing that his words were true. He was the most. experienced. There was still a twinge of... well... a tug of not feeling right yet feeling wrong. She knew that the life of a Shaman was sometimes not an easy one; she knew many things would be chosen by her and they would effect new comers and cubs. "Grandfather... I want to be able to do everything right... and you are my grand father... I never had hard feelings about how you and grandma's lives changed... nor my father ands mothers..."

She didn't know if she had ever mentioned that... then a thought came upon her. "Who... who will I marry someday I wonder..." She looked serious for a moment. "I hope Onalim finds a male soon... she's so needy and whiney sometimes..." Perhaps a change of subject was appropriate.

Unyezi considered the secrets he knew and wondered about the ones he didn't, so much was lost without Shira and Miakoda, it was only luck that he had had interest and need for some of the things they had known. Experience was an excellent teacher and made an excellent teacher. He felt a twinge of guilt and worry, thinking of one secret, knowing the circumstances of the birth of Alcmene and her siblings would come up when they got to it.

He said nothing else, though he smiled, until Stellaluna changed the subject.

"I'm sure you'll both find someone wonderful," he said, beaming, "I find it hard to believe nobody has come calling after either of you."

Stella sat and sort of sighed. She hadn't had any males showing interest but everyone knew how quiet and private she was; unlike her sister Onalim. It had to be the difference in fathers. Onalim floated around like a floating flower and called upon everyone who doted on her. Such a 'lady'. Stella shrugged. "Onalim probably has a whole army of them after her wings. I am rather drab. I know it... If it wasn't for the moon on my brow-" She pulled her bangs back to expose her moon shaped marking. "-I'd barely blend in."

She shifted lightly. "I don't think I am ready for you to share with me yet... I think... in a few days I will be ready. I figure you'd want to refresh your memories and try to drag up the most important ones..." She mentioned; looking warily around. "That and... I don't want anyone suspicious..." She put a paw to her brow. "-oih... I sound like a paranoid freak."

"Don't be ridiculous, my dear," he said, smiling when she went on about how she was so dull looking, "Love isn't always what you expect it to be, nobody would have guessed I would have been drawn to grandma- even me. You'll have to be more social soon, everybody will have to get to know at least a little bit about you."

Shira had been married to her job, but she had never really been the type to be interested in finding a mate. The same was true of the shaman before her, and he suspected it was part of why Miakoda had been so solitary as well. Stellaluna had something none of them had, she was first in a new line of shamans. Her life had not been shaped by growing up with a strict teacher preparing her to be shaman.

"Your lessons will be starting soon," he said, smiling, "But your lessons will me will indeed wait a little longer. You'll have a lot to learn from the queen and princess, but there are a pawful of other members knowledgeable about plants. You're going to be a busy girl."

She looked a bit antsy at the talk of the past shamans and all the time and work they had ahead of them and the time and effort ahead of her. She bit her lip and looked around for a moment, clearing her throat. "I hope.. i will be able to learn everything like this... considering the circumstances..." She said, pressing her paws into the dirt in procession. "I really don't think about love... I know that my mother had a hard time in her past with love... until she met my father and they had the accidental pregnancy... Hehe... now they actually are pretty happy... my mom deserves that..." She paused.

She perked up. "Yeah... I will have to pay attention... For everyones sake... but I can do it.. I know I can... I think." She chuckled. "Oh grandpa... I am going to be so busy... It's gonna be so strange... but... I am excited.." She paused. "What... do you think happened to them grandpa? The last shaman and her apprentice?
