Kail dithered around the food court entrance, picking at a loose thread of his jumper and observing the noisy, busy cafe's and fast-food chains. He wasn't even particularly hungry (not....that he ever was, really), but his Dad had texted him reminding him to eat, so here he was. But...there were lots of people and he couldn't pick out much because he wasn't wearing his glasses. Biting his bottom lip, he frowned, taking a step backwards before moving forwards again. A few passersby gave the boy odd looks, but continued walking anyway, shaking their heads at the youth nowadays, and what young ages parents let them out at. Again....not that he was really, but when you have pink fluffy hair, a baby face and stand at a measy five-one...well, you tend to look younger than you are.
Kail had been dithering now for around ten minutes, not moving much other than the occasional step forward or backwards, or dodging out of people's way.

During her short time in Destiny City thus far, Marie had not yet had the pleasure to go to the local mall. Having no appointments until later in the afternoon, she snagged the chance to drop by the mall. It seemed to be a nice mall; very big. There weren't many stores for full-figured ladies like herself, but it didn't bother her. For one thing, she made her own clothes, and for another, all them "Misses" clothes were so boring! Boring styles, boring fabrics, boring colors; boring, boring, boring!
Marie had been heading out of the mall through the food court when a flash of color caught her eye: pink. Pink hair. Marie liked pink and Marie liked hair, and seeing the cute little boy the hair belonged to... well, suddenly Marie looked like she had discovered the ultimate bargain sale.
" Hi there sugar! You lookin' a bit confused. Hope ya' don't mind my bein' nosy, but I'm guessin' you havin' trouble pickin' what to eat?"
Oh, but he was so cute!

Kail was beginning to develop one of his nervous tics, stress piling up and making him worse and worse, when a friendly, warm and overall accented voice broke into his solitude. Turning on his feet, he nodded, taking the bottom of his slightly-threadbare jumper and twisting it in his hands. Smiling (still with that overall layer of nerves though), he spoke.
"I. uh. Well." It trailed off into stuttering.
Okay, scartch that he tried to. He frowned, shut his eyes and took a deep breath, knuckles white he was clutching his jumper that tight.
"Yes. I-I don't k-know - uh, n-no. I'm new. To the city. A-and.."
She'd get it, right? His face was starting to develop a tinge of red embarrassment as he struggled with his words, and he was clutching his jumper, twisting it like it was the only thing between him and a sharp, long drop.

My, this boy was a mite twitchy, wasn't he? No matter, Marie would just have to set him at ease. Either that or take him home, swaddle him in blankets, and put him in a protective bubble; one of the two.
" Ooh, I'm new too! Maybe we should brave the food court together, hm?"
Not that Marie was thrilled by the idea of food court food, but she figured there should at least be a halfway decent chain restaurant to get food from. Marie would've offered to cook something herself, but while she didn't get it, even Marie knew people had hang-ups about going to a stranger's house to eat.

Oh gosh protective bubbles. That was one of those utterly-non-scientific dreams that he dreamed about anyway. Ones that whilst he was asleep and dreaming of them made him smile like a small child and his dad go 'Aww' when he looked in in the night to check upon his son...but then made him embarrassed by them when he woke up. How non-scientific. (Though if a breakthroguh is ever made in forcefield theory, he is being the first bubble-buyer no questions asked.)
Kail gave a wobbly but thouroughly heartfelt smile at Marie.
"That would be most appreciated thankyou."
He nervously stepped out from his hollow at the side of the crowd and sheltered behind Marie, fingers curling delicately to hold onto her sleeve.
"Youcanlead, right?"

“ Sure can! You stay right behind me, I’ll forge us a path.”
Marie used her considerable girth and presence to good use, parting the crowd easily as she strolled down the food court, eyeing the options. A familiar, orange sign caught her attention out the corner of her eye, and when she saw what it was, her face went like this:
^o^
“ Well, lookie dere! Popeyes! Didn’t think I’d see one of dem up here.”
Popeyes chicken was one of the few fast foods Marie truly liked, and when she had moved away from her beloved New Orleans, she had resigned herself to never sinking her teeth into another piece of crispy, spicy chicken. Oh, the glory of being proven wrong!
“ How ‘bout it? You like fried chicken? Dey got good biscuits ‘n fries too.”
Actually, for a fast food place, Marie pretty much approved of all their food. If he’d never had it, Marie was pretty sure… well now, she hadn’t thought to ask the poor boy’s name! Anyway, she figured he’d like it.
“ I’m Marie. You got somethin’ I can call ya’ other den “You” and “Sweetie”? ‘course, I can keep callin’ ya’ dat if ya’ like, but I wouldn’t mind havin’ a name to go wit’ your face.”
