It was a rare thing indeed for Adi to not be in a good mood, but today was one of those days. There were some things even she couldn't look on the bright side of, and the death - the murder - of Benden's Weyrwoman was certainly one of them. Even without Malvren being implicated, she would have been horrified, but the fact that they thought it was Malvren's doing made it even worse. It couldn't be true! Someone had to have stolen the knife, there was no way anyone from her home would do such a thing...

But clearly the Old Weyrs didn't feel the same way. What was going to happen now?

It is not like you to fret so, Mine, Mazamath observed, nudging her gently. You shouldn't. There's nothing you can do about it, so why don't you go find flowers instead? I will even go with you, even if you run. Not that he was really likely to run as well, but he might if that was what it took. At least for a few steps.

So, a short time later, the pair was wandering outside near the lakes, picking flowers.

P'zul was not his usual cheery self. Not since the Incident. He didn't want to call it anything else and tried not to let it loom over his head. Even his ever cheerful Nnith was saddened and did not know why. Shaking his head, he had a sudden idea.

"Nnith! Let's go for a walk, sweetheart. Just you, me and the boys. What do you think? Maybe a swim by the lake?" He cajoled her with his sweetest, loving tone.

The green perked up. Walk? Swim? Now these were things the dragon loved and she chirped happily in response. Yes! I can swim and we can talk. Bring our oil, and the brush. And do you have any of those sweet rolls? The green was a giddy girl.

Laughing lightly, P'zul gathered the required items, stuffing plenty of rolls and some fruit into a basket with the oil, brush, and a blanket for himself. A nice quiet afternoon to clear these terrible thoughts. Those others would see! Malvren had nothing to do with the terrible Incident. Hopping on Nnith back, the two glided down to the lake and settled into a favored spot of theirs. By a grassy bit that had a nice sandy part before the water. Blue Kip and silver Zymm hummed their approval as the group settled down.

Two others are here also. Mazamath and his rider. Nnith opened her eyes and looked over. Maybe they will walk this way.

"Let them be for now. Perhaps they need quiet time as well."

Dragons, it was safe to say, were not any good at picking flowers. The delicate little plants were simply too small, and Mazamath was far more likely to be counterproductive and step on them than be of any help. The best he could do was was trundle along behind his rider and point out ones he thought she might like. It was while doing this searching that he caught a glimpse of one of his clutchmates and alerted His, Look, Nnith is over there. You could talk to Hers. Adi liked to talk at least as much as she liked flowers, after all.

"Hm?" The girl had just bent to pick another flower when the blue pointed out the other pair, and straightened before considering it. P'zul was pretty nice... "I'd like that."

Nnith, would you and Yours like company? Maz sent politely.

P'zul needs someone to cheer him up. We have a basket that we can share. Please come join us. Nnith warbled happily, always a vocal and excitable green. She looked for a good place so that Mazamath would be able to join her and almost backed up over her rider.

"Watch out, Nnith. Or I won't be able to scrub you. Oi, Adi. Care to join us? I have some rolls and citrus if you like," P'zul shouted out to her. They had Impressed together, well not together. But at the same time. And that meant in a way, they were clutch mates just as the blue and green were mates. Not mates. P'zul groaned at his inner dialogue and plopped down on top of the blanket.

Almost immediately, Kip and Zymm settled and chirped about food. Taking a meat roll, he split it in half and tossed them in the air. The two were off and then out in the air flying around happily. "Good day, Mazamath. You look well today."

Good, they can cheer each other up. It is not good for them to not be happy. He didn't remember the usual disposition of Nnith's, but it wasn't good for anyone to be unhappy. And when riders were unhappy, that generally meant the same for the dragons - they could pull each other up or down like that. Now that they'd been invited, Mazamath gave His a light bump from behind - go on then!

Adi waved when the greenrider called out, and when Maz bumped her, picked up the pace a little, jogging over to the other pair while the blue followed at a much more sedate pace. "Hey, P'zul," she offered, summoning a smile that came just a little less easily than usual. "Picnic, huh? Good idea."

She took a seat and set aside her handful of flowers. "Nnith looks good, too. It's good to see somebody else out."

Mazamath rumbled pleasantly in acknowledgement of P'zul's greeting, settling down in the spot Nnith seemed to have designated.

He has been sad since... A long time. Nnith was a creature of happiness and avoiding sadness. She did not understand hostility or why it had to be nor did she think that her weyr was in any danger. A gentle soul at heart, she huffed. They will talk and be happy. Mine brought oil and a brush as well. And sweet things that I like to taste.

"Yeah. It seemed like a good idea. I just had to get out and away, you know?" Looking at the flowers, he grinned. "How kind of you to bring the decorations. What brings you two out this way, the same thing or another reason?" He would not bug her, would not bring the sadness here that he had been desperately trying to escape. "Thank you. I brought oil and a brush just in case. Help yourself if Mazamath gets in a mood."

Mine is only sad since the news. There has not been anything else for her to be sad about. Now that they had pleasant company, Mazamath could relax; P'zul would help make his happy, and Nnith was something of a kindred spirit. More energetic, but someone who also enjoyed life.

"Oh, you like them?" Adi grinned, too, and decided to give in to the playful urge that followed. Plucking up a little yellow flower, she moved to stick it behind P'zul's ear, if he didn't dodge her. "Yeah, same thing."

Oil and a brush, too? "Looks like you thought of everything."

I would not say no to an oiling, the blue noted, But only if you want something to do later. He would rather she focus on enjoying herself for the time being. She needed to cheer up more than he needed to be pampered.

Oh yes! The news. That is what made him sad. But that is okay. Now to be happy. Have you had sweet things before? Nnith asked. She was a bundle of ever loving happiness. P'zul! Give Mazamath a sweet thing. Let him try. The green leaned forward and looked hers in the eye. I want a sweet thing too please.

The green rider grinned and allowed the flower to be stuck behind his ear. It was nice to be relaxed and not thinking about well... Things. All sorts of things. When Nnith would go proddy. Benden. What would his new wing be like. Benden. Would anyone ever catch his eye. Benden. "I tried but basically Nnith told be what she wanted and I just packed it."

He pulled out two sweetrolls, spiced heavily and tossed one to Nnith's open mouth. P'zul wondered if other dragons liked human food. He held the other up to the blue and offered it nicely. "This is for you if you want it. Just open wide."

Sweet things are good. Not as good as meat, but good. Definitely good enough that he wanted one! So when P'zul offered, the blue opened up his mouth and waited for the food to be 'delivered.' What a lovely coincidence this was turning out to be, running into Nnith and hers!

Adi giggled at the dragons, unable to help herself. They just looked so silly, with their mouths hanging open and waiting for sweets! "Well, Nnith, you've got good taste," she complimented, reaching for a meatroll. "I kinda miss working in the kitchens sometimes. Only sometimes, though."
