She'd told him to meet her in the park, next to the play structures and swings. It was his night off of duty; well, self-decided night off. He'd been rattled at the meeting, and Merric didn't want to be Jarosite again just yet, at least until he got his bearings again, and had a discussion with Painite about just what Tanzanite was. His other dilemma was the Dark Mirror Court, and Smokey Princess Ares, and what he was going to do help the Negaverse destroy the Surrounding.
He almost wanted to go to it, but the temptation of youma hunting in the Rift was there as well. As much as Painite loved energy collection, it was just a little boring. The blue haired teen looked around and sighed; he hoped no one dropped in on their date tonight. Or now. He couldn't exactly powerup in the middle of this park, and the trees wouldn't hide him enough if a senshi came along.
Merric glanced at his phone. "Come on girl... Where are you Odey?" he asked softly, unawares he was being watched by one of those monsters his organization so controlled.

Odette was aware of Merric's plight, and had henshined up and was waiting as Sailor Albireo, eyes narrowed at the creature.
The youma in question was quite small, only about three feet long and two feet high, with long rabbit like ears, though had what seemed to be antlers coming up from its head.
Didn't look too dangerous, until it opened it's mouth, revealing rows and rows of sharp teeth, much like a shark, and its feet sported very long nasty looking talons.
The creature gave a wheezy snarl, then sprang at Merric, opening it's mouth wide, seeming to intend to latch onto his arm...or head. Where ever it could latch on to.
With a curse, Albireo jumped from the tree she had been on, kicking the creature before it got too close to her boyfriend. "Get away from him, damn youma. No food for you tonight, not if I can help it!"
She would protect Merric...even if it meant they couldn't have their date.

Merric heard the snarled, and turned, catching the youma's bottom jaw with his arm. He gave a growl and reached for it to send it flying when it was kicked away. He blinked and looked up at the girl who was yelling at it.
Swany.
Oh. s**t. This was not good. While the youma couldn't sense he was of the Negaverse as he was, it was that damn senshi again. And he had no way of powering up without letting her know who she was.
But he really hated being saved by the damn swan girl.
Damn. Just a way to ruin his evening. A scowl came over his features, and he eyed the youma, as if glaring at it would make it remember he was of the same chaos it was.
It didn't seem to be working, though.

The youma seemed pissed when it went flying, then eyed Albireo up, it's tiny nose twitching, rows of teeth bared.
The creature lunged towards her, biting the air as it moved, hoping to get a chunk of delicious swan senshi flesh. The girl grit her teeth, then moved out of the way, calling out the name of her attack, watching the youma's face grow more and more confused as it tried to figure out where the sounds were coming from.
Instead of lunging again at her, it lunged at Merric again, foaming slightly, teeth chomping.

Merric winced at the honking, but ignored it for the most part. He kept his eyes on the youma, letting hit deal with the senshi for a moment. He shifted his weight onto one leg as it got disoriented. Silver eyes met the youmas and he grinned.
He jerked his body, twisting his right side forward. His leg swung forward, and he caught the youma in the jaw with his foot, and sent it flying.
Straight into Swany.
He snorted just a little. Ha, the honking idiot deserved it, for the last battle. Merric stood up from his kick, hooking his hands in the pockets of his jeans.
"Oh, sorry there, Swany- Swan terrorist," he said, feigning concern really horribly.

The now very dazed youma crashed into Albireo and it's teeth latched onto her bodice, tearing a few of the ties.
Ah. Great. Now she was going to flash her boobs to Merric. Just what she wanted.
The sneshi wrenched the creature off of her, then grabbed a stick, slamming it through the youma, causing it to explode into dust.
Good. Well now. That was easy enough.
She looked to Merric. "Are you all right? You're not hurt, right?"

He tilted his head, eyes flashing down to the tear in her bodice for a moment. He inwardly grinned before flicking his silver eyes back up to hers. His arm was scratched, and his jacket ripped, but he could fix it.
"I'm fine." He spoke simply then went to pull out his phone, Albireo all but forgotten. Where the hell was Odette? "Where the hell is that girl? Odey should have been here ten minutes ago..." he muttered to himself, a flash of anger surging in his words.
If she wasn't going to show, he was going to go drain up some civilians. He had to do something. All this waiting was making him tense and irritable.

The senshi watched him for a few moments more, then cleared her throat, sighing. "Well, I'd best be off...more civilians to protect and all that. Good luck waiting for this Odey girl. Hope she shows up."
She turned then, scowling. Would it even be worth it to double back and come see him? Or would he be angry...what kind of excuse would she use? Sick...she could say she got sick and passed out? Would that work?
Eh. Something would have to.

He gave the senshi a mild wave and stood on the bench, trying to see if he could spot the girl he was waiting for. His silver eyes held a bit of loneliness in them, that was absorbed by anger, and he almost powered up then and there.
She was never late. Never.
Why was she late now?

Albireo sighed, darting off into the the night.
It was maybe two minutes later that Odette walked up, wobbling slightly, hair a mess, looking quite frightened.
"M-Mer?"
Better to go see him, pretending to have been attacked...she wanted to see him anyway...tonight was supposed to be a date, not a patrol.

The sound of her voice set him on edge and he swiveled around to look at her. Her hair was tousled, her was shakey on her feet, and she looked terrified. Silver eyes widened, then narrowed, and then he cursed under his breath. She'd gotten attacked, hadn't she? If it was the Negaverse he was going to slam his boots into a fair few people.
He hoped of the bench and ran to her, pulling her into his arms and crushing her to his chest. "Are you okay Odette? What or who did this?" he asked into her ear, not letting her go. He almost held her too hard, but he didn't care.
Hell was going to pay whoever did this.

She relaxed against him, closing her eyes and giving a sigh, swallowing. "You're going to think I'm insane...but it was some sort of demented rabbit...."
He wasn't angry at her...she wasn't the cause of the loneliness in his eyes anymore...
After all, it was the rabbit youma's fault that Odette didn't show up on time.
"Some crazy girl in a...strange outfit saved me. I'm tired of being attacked by small animals, Mer. I'm just not going to go outside anymore. First it was a chicken, now a rabbit? This is insane..."

He frowned into her hair. Demented... rabbit...? Wasn't the youma who'd mistakenly attacked him... a demented rabbit? And hadn't it been dusted? Had she gotten attacked before then?
How then had he not heard her being attacked? He didn't think youma moved that fast after all. So she couldn't have been across town.. though it was possible.
He shook his head gently, dashing the thoughts from his mind. He'd deal with the lingistics later. He held her close and cooed into her ear.
"Its okay, you're safe now... I won't let anything happen to you while your here," whether it be youma, Negaverse, or Senshi, nothing will touch you. I swear, he added silently to himself. AT least he didn't have to charge into the Rift and demand who attacked her, so he could punch them.
"You have to go outside, Odey. You have to go to school... and that requires being outside." He chuckled softly, trying to lift the mood up some. It wasn't going to do to keep their date all gloomy.

Odette gave a happy little sigh, nodding and hugging him tighter. "Well, then I'll make sure to take someone with me when I go out. I don't know, Mer. Destiny City is a scary place now, isn't it...how did it get like this? It used to be such a nice town."
Maybe she just had been dense, who knew. It didn't really matter. Nothing mattered now but staying safe and keeping Merric safe as well. Merric and her mother. It was her duty, and she was glad she could become Albireo, glad she had the power and ability to destroy those damn youmas.
"Hey...Mer?" She pressed closer, then kissed his cheek. "Is it too soon to say that I think I'm really falling in love with you?"

Merric jolted, staring wide eyed at her. She...she...she...was...wa..was...
in love with him?
With... He froze looking at her, shock written all over his face. Way to go Odette, you just broke Merric's brain.
He fumbled for words and couldn't grab any out of the air. His brain wouldn't work. His heart faultered and jump started, and he swore he could almost feel the chaos inside of his star seed freeze.
It didn't... compute. She wasn't... how could she... in love... be... now... so soon... so soon...
His heart thudded.
Too soon. Too soon. Too soon!
He finally looked down, hiding his eyes behind his bangs. He pulled himself away from Odette with shaking hands.
"I...I think its... too soon..." His voice cracked and he winced. That wasn't at all what she wanted to hear... but... it was too soon for him. He suddenly felt the urge to go collect energy, or find Painite to take him to the Rift, or find a senshi to practice fighting on.
He needed to get away... needed to be someone other than himself, just for now. He shook with the force of keeping 'Jarosite' out of the forefront of his mind, to keep his true nature hidden from her.
He cared for her, more than anything, but he couldn't... couldn't handle...
It right now.
