 Ultimecia Castle (アルティミシア城, Arutimishia-jou) is the final dungeon in Final Fantasy VIII. The main antagonist and final boss, Ultimecia, resides deep within the castle. The monsters fought within the castle have random levels.
Ultimecia Castle becomes accessible when sorceress Ultimecia compresses time into a world where only she can live. However, Time Compression never fully occurs — it is temporarily halted by Ellone — and the party is able to counteract it simply by believing each others' existence. Transport to and from Ultimecia's world and the normal world can be done via four portals outside the castle, which lead to various locations on the world map.
The Castle is a maze-like structure to try and confuse the player. Ultimecia's Chamber, where the final battle is staged, can be accessed right from the beginning; however, there is a catch.
 HallThe lobby that welcomes the SeeDs stepping into the castle. This area branches into four separate paths. The first one is to the left leading to the Great Hall. Right of the staircase leads to the right Stairway Hall A. The door across it leads to the chandelier above the Great Hall leading to the Terrace. Left of the staircase leads to the left Stairway Hall A. At the staircase, one of Ultimecia's minions, the Sphinxaur, awaits  Great HallThe Great Hall Has two staircases leading to the Terrace, but both are broken. The trapdoor leads to the Wine Cellar. There is also a party switch point.  TerraceThe area where Ultimecia's minion, Krysta, lingers. Ultimecia's Tower can be seen in the distance.  Wine CellarThe spiraling staircase downwards lead to a minion Tri-Point.  CourtyardThe path diverges to the Waterway on the right and the Chapel at the middle. A party switch point is found here.  Stairway Hall A (Left)Entered from the Hall, this path leads to the Treasure Room and the Elevator Hall.  Stairway Hall A (Right)Entered from the Hall, this path contains a party switch point. This path leads to the Art Gallery, and is where the player rings a bell to summon the Omega Weapon.  Treasure RoomAccessed from the left Stairway Hall A, in the path leading to the Elevator Hall. The player needs the Treasury Key to get in, found in front of the fountain on the Courtyard. Inside are four crates with a puzzle. Solving this puzzle summons Catoblepas, one of Ultimecia's eight minions.  Art GalleryA picture gallery entered from the right Stairway Hall A, this path leads to the Stairway Hall B. The area contains a puzzle, that when solved, summons Trauma, one of Ultimecia's eight minions.  Stairway Hall BThis area diverges to two: the Passage Way on the left, and the Armory in the middle.  Passage WayContains a hidden save point. This path leads to the Elevator Hall and must be used if the player wants to reach the Storage Room.  Elevator HallThe elevators contain party switch points. Party A accessing this area from the left Stairway Hall A awaits Party B coming in from the Passageway. Party B will go on the elevator to lift the elevator up for Party A (party B must be heavier than party A). The path above leads to the Storage Room.  Storage RoomA dead-end.  FloodgateThe path diverges to two; the right door leads to the Armory, while the left door leads to the Prison. The lever before the left door controls the drainage in the Waterway, but the player must use the Floodgate Key to activate the lever; if the lever is pulled, the water is drained, making the Waterway accessible.  PrisonA dead-end. The door will be locked once the player enters. This room contains a corpse holding the Prison Key. Once the player retrieves it, Ultimecia's minion Red Giant will appear to stop the party from escaping. The door to the left leads to a ledge overlooking the Waterway.  ArmoryA dead-end. Accessed from the Floodgate via the Armory Key retrieved at the Bridge. Here, the player enters a fight with a Vysage, Lefty, and Righty which is revealed to be Ultimecia's minion Gargantua.  ChapelAccessed from the Courtyard, contains an organ and a strange, dark, purplish cloud that is actually the Omega Weapon that can be summoned out of the cloud using the bell in the right Stairway Hall A. The organ also has a function — striking all the keys on the organ will open the access to the Waterway from the Courtyard.  WaterwayInitially flooded, the waters can be drained using the lever in the Floodgate. Divided into the top level and the bottom level. The top accessed through the Bridge, the bottom through the Courtyard — a fence bars access until all the organ keys in the Chapel are struck.  BridgeAccessed through the Chapel, a rickety wooden bridge connects the Clock Tower. There is an object, the Armory Key used to access the Armory, retrieved by walking slowly on the bridge. If the key falls, it can be found in the Floodgate room. Across the bridge, the path diverges: right goes to the Waterway, and left to the Clock Tower.  Clock TowerA spiraling staircase accessed from the Bridge. A hidden save point is at the base. Along the way, the player can reach the swinging pendulum, grab it and cross to the other side, where one of Ultimecia's eight minions, Tiamat, awaits. Incidentally, on the clockface on the Clock Tower, one of the hands points towards the number VIII.  Master RoomUltimecia awaits at the tower's Master Room. A save point can be found at the end of the path near the entrance to the Master Room.

Deep crystal blue orbs gazed upon the massive castle in the distance ahead.Mounted upon a pure white steed, a mare she had gotten from Serenity's kingdom and named it Pixie! There was a reason for that. The young women stopped before getting to close, the very look of it seemed far to dark for her to continue forward. She may be curious about the castle, but she also knew to listen to gut feelings, this place felt nothing of good and that was just enough for her to keep herself from entering. She had gotten herself into one to many binds to count, she didn't need another one added! It did however, make her miss her Kingdom of Hyrule far more.
Pixie suddenly seemed startled, as if it sensed something of danger approaching.It began to back up, before turning fully away to another direction away from the castle before breaking into a run as it wanted to get clearly as far as it could from this dangerous place! "Pixie! What is the matter??" She asked as though she would get an answer! Zelda clasped a hand around the necklace around her neck, holding onto it tightly. What it was, was only obvious to her, and the one person on this planet with her who would know just what it was. A small triangle that glowed a deep sea blue color. She had at some time found a way to keep it even closer to her by using a spell from something she learned here to make it smaller then she set it as a necklace to wear around her neck. The Triforce of Wisdom was with her, though the last one to get the Triforce of Power, well...It wasn't a good thing. Ganon, of course. As long as he didn't have all of them together though, for now where ever that creature was would be somewhat...safe. She just hoped he did somehow manage to get to this world so that she could get the Triforce of Power back.
The mystical mare continued away from the area, not once slowing down as they would soon be a safe distance away from the gloomy dark Castle..

Hana was sitting at the top of one of the many roof tops of the gigantic castle. She was...at the limit of absolute rage. She knew about the party that had gone on in Balamb, everyone was partying and having a fun time while her mother was in a coma! It just didn't suit so well with her! She was angry, with everyone and everything. This place she had stumbled upon seemed...interesting, though. It held such a dark presence within it she might be able to get some sort of answers here, maybe. For now, she stayed where she was, her mind continuing to race with thoughts that seemed all but impossible by now. Was her mothers light -ever- going to get returned? If she had to start killing just to get it back, she might just do it..Even if in the end, she turned into an enemy, even if everyone hated her, it was all worth saving her.

"Ahhhhhhhh I'm so creeped out!!This place is ...freaky! And why can't we use our powers?? How long have we been walking around this maze of creepiness??" Phoenix complained as she walked along side of Hana, and to her side was Azura. The girls had come here for some hunt of 'new creepy places' for the silly season. And, well. They got what they searched for. Maybe to much more then they would have liked.Mostly though it was Phoenix's idea, who she dragged Hana along to get her out of the house.It wasn't healthy for her mentally or physically to just stay indoors for nearly a month with her coma ridden mother. But, along the way they had realized that none of them could seem to use any of there powers, none what so ever. But that was alright! Had anything happened, Phoenix had her sword and Azura her trident, as Hana had her hammer.'God..I feel like somethings following us.."
Hana was the only one with a flashlight, thankfully. This place was -dark-. In many ways more then just by no light. As she flashed it ahead of them, suddenly! Something jumped out like a bolt of lighting, so fast, and so fast was it gone before they could even get a real glimpse of what it was. Phoenix and Hana both clinged to each other and screamed, while Azura stood there looking...bored?!
"....You looked for something scary, and you found it..Now you don't want it? You sure can be a strange one, Phoenix! I'm sure it was just a cat or mouse." She didn't really believe it was anything other then some animal! For the most innocent young Mermaid Princess, it was pretty funny that she wasn't at all frightend. Next, the sound of glass shattered from another area."Someone can simply be trying to scare you, as well.." The more they went on, this basement seemed never ending, it was everything one would look for in some horror film if they so seeked to make a scary movie. Cobwebs, spiders, broken items and even human skeletons laid resting on the ground in barious area's. ".....Hmm..Why are there bones in here? "
"How can you be so calm about that! We are lost in a freakish castle of death or something! What if there's a serial killer just waiting to pop out and stab us to death? " Wasn't she just well spoken! Just then, the a blood curdling scream could be faintly heard from another part of the castle, they had no idea where it came form, and it was nearly impossible to know with how far deep into the corridor of the basement they were.
As they walked more, Azura was slowly starting to get a nervous as something caught her attention, blood smeres on the ground, dragging off into some other area a distance away, it seemed like it lead into another door! ".......Okay. So we might need to get out of here? Does Alistor not work at all? Let's...Just turn around, and try our best to back track everywhere we've been so far..If we do that we might be able to find our way out. "

Phoenix nodded to Azura's idea, the girls had seen plenty and now it was time to leave before they got to meet whatever did that to some poor soul. She fought practically everyday, but never much cared to see blood! Gore was one of her..weak points.
The girls continued on there way, heading up the staircase they had gone down before, She still couldn't understand why there powers were stopped in this place, it was as if it had some sort of field barrier keeping powers out.They had no idea there was a task to do if they wanted to gain them back.Finally..they would find there way out..after much time and exhaustion. They would feel there powers returned as well as they started to leave the gloomy castle as fast as possible...
((ooc: Couldn't wait to do that scene and now I do it and it's boring as heck! *Exits* lol. )

Did it work?"   † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ † ♥ After a good few minutes of waiting, Rinoa left Kalm the moment Cid's airship was long gone out of sight. Then, she began in a hurry to her next destination, just at the cliffs edges in the Midgar area lied the dark presence of evil, a massive field of darkness could be felt from the second one stepped foot within the darkness of the old castle. She knew who was there, she knew of the dangers, and the loss of magic would only happen again, just like the very first time her and her allies entered. But she was well ready for it. Armed with the Shooting Star, and a few potions, Rinoa made her way up to the large wooden doors. ".....I'll do this myself...It's my problem...No one else will be in danger because of me." She said softly to herself, slowly opening the loudly creaking doors as she stepped inside. Almost instantly she could feel her magic energy lost..."I can defeat them...I can do it!" Rinoa tried to keep her spirits up, she needed this courage to last her, or this would be one great big mistake..

Bringing things back after they had been defeated, how she even came back was also the greater mystery. Not even Rinoa could figure that one out. As she stepped toward the entry hall, her first face off with one of Ultimecia's deadly minion's, Sphinxaur, began with a powerful Firaga attack, which came down like a giant wave of flaming orbs at the blue clad figure...

Crushes enemies with deft, balanced sword techniques.  "A knight is defined by that which he protects" Suddenly, a large round golden shield of light formed in front of Rinoa, as a figure clad in blue and golden armor jumped in front of her. Sure, she wanted to come in here alone, but that apperently just was not going to happen! Blocking the Firaga, the shield then cesed, and the knight spun while in the air, forming several small crimson blades of light, all of which then volleyed out and homed in on the Sphinxaur. Then, the figure dropped to the ground, landing on his feet in front of Rinoa. He thought she was some civillian who accidentally wandered into this dangerous place. "Flee, now." He said to her. "This is no place for you." He said, getting into his fighting stance. He sensed Ultimecia's presence in this place, and knew she was not to be trifled with, even though he had defeated her, she was still a very powerful force obviously. "Destiny, ends here!"

Now the dark begins to rise
Save your breath, it's far from over
Leave the lost and dead behind
Now's your chance to run for cover
I don't wanna change the world...

This was little damage to such a creature, though. Then, not even a second later did the golden shield of light appear there in front of her.The blue clad figure catching her eye now once he was in front of her. She wasn't sure to be grateful for his help, or angry! Surly even she knew there was no possible way of defeating ALL those, PLUS the Sorceress's.Still, she felt this was something she had to do on her own, she couldn't prove a thing had she got help, as always. His attack definitely shocked her, it was like nothing she had seen before! "..No.You!...You should leave. I know what I'm doing, I came here for a reason..Please go, I don't want anyone involved. I have to settle this on my own! No one else will get hurt! " Meanwhile, the thing had died so fast by Light's attacks, it didn't even get a chance to change forms to it's next, more powerful state.

"A knight is defined by that which he protects" After the thing died rather quickly, Light lowered Excalibur and Hero's Shield, but didn't dismiss them. He turned to the blue clad woman, his stoic expression remaining on his face as usual. "Begone from this place. This is no place for those who cannot battle." He wasn't aware she could battle obviously. But without magic she wasn't very good. "There is a presence I recognize here - a sorceress named Ultimecia. You may not know who it is, but she is a very powerful being, and you would not be able to handle her." He didn't know that this girl was actually from the same world as Ultimecia! He just didn't know her because she wasn't in the Conflict of the Gods, and Ultimecia was. "I can defeat her, I have before, however I'll not have an innocent in danger. Flee the area now." He said seriously to her. How interesting it would be when he found out she knew of these things and knew Squall as well. "Destiny, ends here!"

Probably not very well, no where near as good as his skills were, but she wasn't completely defenseless ether.Once she gained her magic back, then she would be far more helpful then now! "I can battle very well, thank you! I know what this is, and who is here. I can use magic but there is a barrier in this castle that's blocking it. We have to destroy each of the other monsters like this one, to release that seal." Rinoa tried to explain. "How do you know Ultimecia? My friends and I dealt with her once before, as for you..I don't understand how you know her? How could you have beaten her? " Rinoa never really did ask much into this conflict of the gods with Squall, so her information was vague. "We've beaten her once...And you say you have? And now she's here, everything here has been restored to it's original state to what we had to deal with..She's a powerful Time Sorceress, If you know her, then you know that. Whatever has brought her back seems to also given her greater power, with her now are more Sorceress's. I am a Sorceress too. " She said, looking away at that, she was never happy about this, which was exactly why she had come here! "I came here to defeat them on my own, and hope to get be freed of being one of them too. You don't know what happens in the future, things I cause..I want to end it! Now do you understand? " With that, she began to start toward the Terrace, where they would meet there next enemy, Krysta. "I still would rather you leave..But if you choose to stay, well! If we survive this I will be sure to give you an ear-full later! I'm...Rinoa Heartilly. " Rinoa said then, she had a feeling this man wasn't going to leave...

How would that even damage anything?" Poor Rinoa. She had such an underestimated weapon! "It is as strange as the weapons Laguna had used." He even said to Laguna "This sword is all I need." Because seriously, those things were so wierd. And yes, it would be interesting when he found out she knew Laguna too. "You know of Ultimecia? I battled her in the Conflict of the Gods. If you are from the same world as her, does that mean you are familiar with the one named Squall Leonhart as well?" Hmm, did Rinoa know Squall? That was a hard one! "I see. If there are more with equal power as her then we've no time to waste." At what all she said next, he started to walk with her beside her. "I see. I admire your resolve, and I understand. I'll not ask you to leave, but I am going to accompany you." He said, yeah, that wasn't changing. "My name... I do not know my name. Just call me Light." That had sorta become his name at this point since that's what everyone called him. For some reason this girl kinda reminded him of Terra... He had almost killed Terra during the Conflict of the Gods, but he didn't and she sorta taught him more about emotions and compassion after he had saved her when they were on the same side. "Destiny, ends here!"

Of course it does! It launches off of my wrist..The blades are razor sharp and will cut through just about anything! " She lowered her sad little weapon, though her attention quickly raised to what he said next. "Laguna?? Do you mean, Laguna Liore? " Rinoa asked suddenly, her tone seemed rather excited, as well as puzzled! The more he spoke, the more this situation would become a complete shock to her. "..You were one of his allies? " She questioned, then he said it. How bizarre was this! "Um....." Her features suddenly went from excited,insulted and shocked to a small blush, to which she turned a little. They were in the most dangerous of places, but leave it to Rinoa not to care! For now, it seemed safe until they proceeded further. "Yes....Squall.." She paused, twiddling her thumbs as she tapped the floor with the tip of her boot. "He's my boyfriend..!" Her blush only increased for a moment longer as she calmed her little blushy fit there.
"I thought so...Fine, I'll let you come! " Like she had much of a choice in that matter! But then her voice softened, to a small whisper. "Thank you.." The 'fearless' determined Rinoa, really was quite scared. She just refused to show it. That would only put her in more danger with fear in her mind.
As she walked with him now to the next area, she couldn't help but ask.. "Light..Can I ask you something? What was it like during this Conflict you all went through? Squall never got hurt, right? ..............Did......Did he say anything about me? "

Crushes enemies with deft, balanced sword techniques. "A knight is defined by that which he protects" "...If you insist." Light said. He really didn't see that weapon as a threat in any way. After all, it was nothing compared to a sword of course. At least to him. "Yes, he was one of the six who died in the second-to-last cycle of battle." He said. "Myself and those six were the only ones on Cosmos' side who were still in the war at that point." Kain had pretty much taken out just about everyone else on that side at that point. At what she said next, he didn't exactly react as much as she was probably hoping. "I see.' Was about all he said! "He is a very skilled warrior indeed." The only warrior who managed to beat Light really. Though Light obviously wasn't going full power, but neither was Squall in all fairness, since they were on the same side.
As she asked about the Conflict of the Gods, he glanced at her. "It was a battle between the Goddess of Harmony, Chaos, and the God of Discord, Chaos. It went through thirteen cycles of battle in total, in each one more people had died until at the last there were only ten warriors on each side, Squall being on of Cosmos'. For all I know you may have been in one of the earlier cycles, for I can only remember the twelfth and thirteenth at this point." That was an interesting thought. "All I can remember of Squall getting hurt was when Kain betrayed him and blindsided him. Rendering him incapicitated for the rest of that war." Squall did show his strength though when he had been able to fend off Sephiroth, defeat Kuja, Light, and Ultimecia all on his own. That took some doing. "No. The only reference to his past I heard him say was something about a promise." Of course. "But all our memories had been erased and we could not remember anything about our pasts. Only very few could remember through battles only very important details about their pasts. I still have no recovered any memories actually." Which led him to believe he never actually had a past. Still though, this showed just how important their promise was to Squall. "Squall told the Onion Knight that he had a "promise to keep", and that there was "someone waiting for him"." He had overheard that conversation. That was so close to the end of the Conflict as he remembered, so it was no surprise he could remember such an important detail. "Destiny, ends here!"
