The Circle The Circle is huge. It lays smack dab in the middle of the dormitories and the school building. With the 3 dorms flanking on either side and the 4 story school building behind it, a wide cobblestone path circles the large flat expanse of grass. With a random tree spotted here and there.
In the center is a nice sized fire pit, called the Eternal flame. In memory of the many poor souls that passed away in the witch scare and the continuation of their school despite it. Here is where new students are sorted into their dormitories. The flames changing color and creating a flame image, after the new student throws a piece of paper with their name on it into the flames.
Normally the flame is left alone, unless pranksters get to it, while people sit around it holding classes outside, or working on homework outside, or just laying out on the Circle's well cared for lawn to enjoy the day.

The time was upon them again. A cool crisp wind blew through the trees in a melody older then any other. Nothing in the forest moved...at least that could be seen. He felt there was a thousand eyes upon him but not a soul stood with him. The warmth from the flames before him warmed him despite the wind's attempt to freeze his body. For a moment he imaged himself a statue. There were many on the grounds but none here, none at the circle. This was the place where students became members of the houses, where new met old and tradition held strong. This was were girls came to learn, to be taught things that some believed they didn't have a right to learn. These flames weren't meant to be tended by someone like him...a man. Was there a statue of a man anywhere here? He doubted it and if there was to be one he cringed to think it would be of him. After all he was the first male Headmaster of Salem. That was too strange of a thought to go over for now. Put it aside...move on... Letting his mind fall silent Riley spent a moment just feeling the wind. His shiny black hair was starting to get long again...he could feel it tickling about his neck and face as the wind pushed it around him. The long cloak he wore danced about him as well. Part of him felt silly standing her in his nice dress slacks, vest and crisp button up shirt but he refused to not look the part of his job...even if his age often made people think he was joking. It wasn't his fault that he had come to school at such a young age. Salem still felt as strange to him now as it did all those years ago. He had been only nine when he came here...nine...most kids were still in Pre Wiz at this point. Not Riley though, he just had to go above and beyond. As one of the seven students that entered the school he was youngest and graduated earlier at that. Only four of them had made it through and to this day no one knew what had happened to the two missing students. Though the Dark Witches Forest was a dangerous place...stop it focus on what you are doing boy. Soon his students would be arriving as would his colleagues. Another year of questions, another series of accusations, another round of dark stares and dark thoughts. Many questioned just how he had got the position of Headmaster. At times Riley himself questioned why he was given it as well. Sure he had graduated Salem at 13 and went on to study for three more years at Darkmark graduating there at 16. It was because of his connection to Darkmark that Riley felt a lot of people here didn't trust him. Really they guys there weren't so bad but it's trying to get men and women to get along. That was like putting cats and dogs into the same room together, both parties left bloody and in pain. All he had to do was stand strong, this would work out in the end. He liked the ways of both schools and maybe just maybe America would be the proud owners of two High Wizarding Schools of great renown instead of just Salem. A light chuckle left him unbidden as a smile graced his lips. Oh how ironic that it was the Woman's school that most other Wizarding communities knew about instead of the Male's. A flurry of wings caught his attention and the wizard didn't flinch as a large bird landed gracefully on his shoulders. Her feathers ranged from burnt gold to scarlet and to Riley she was his one confidant. Though he found it humorous that Zorya was a female. Slowly his eyes opened reveal a pair of dusty greys that looked at his familiar lovingly. "I'm sorry milady but we are still waiting. Soon the others will come and we will have another year upon us. Are you ready?" Riley said softly as he reached up to pet the precious creature gently. A musical cry left the firebird's mouth as she answered his master's question. Together the two turned their attention to the fire and listened it it's roaring chorus that mingled with the wind's. Dance through the flames: Zorya, no one else The call within me: At peace It burns brightly: Another year begins...

There were many pit falls to flying long distance from Chicago to East Coast, specific Salem. For one the rates were ridiculous, her broom would have been better than the old worn out carpet and second rate warming enchantments. The only good thing she could think of about her CarpetLine Airway flying carpet was that she could have Sum on the trip with her. Other than that, she was beginning to think that her sister had a very solid point about not ordering things advertised in Sagely Sagas.
Still, Olivia thought as carpet glided through the magical barrier wall, the ride was smoother than it has ever been on my broom. At least I didn't have to deal with any jet planes. Blasted things. Muggles should really stay on the ground...the exhaust from those things smell terrible and are terrible for the earth!
She concluded this thought as she let the beauty of the Salem campus hit her. As always she had missed it, even when had been there only two months since she had seen it. Taking it all in, as the carpet slowed, she noted a few changes. Like the scorch marks from the few explosions that had hit the pathway around the circle were gone. The greens were once again healthy and vibrant with leaves of orange and green. Hinting at the coming fall. The fire pit was the same, as was the person behind it.
Olivia Elderwild still didn't know what to make of the young headmaster. Prodigy, maybe. Genius, far from it. Strong enough to handle all the craziness, well he survived last year. Still she wasn't certain she liked the change. Salem was historically the school that fought for equality for women. It stood to oppose the political and magical might of Darkmark. To have have one of their own here, well. She suppose that Salem had touched him first, but there was no telling what had been dropped into his head when he was under those fools. Yet there was nothing to be done. The school board had basically begged him to be headmaster, and with her dearest friend, Nicola still missing.
"I see I got here before the crowd started to form. Good to see you again, Headmaster Quillen, she said as her black booted feet hit the grass. She worn the traditional black witches gown and hat, yet she would burn down Salem before she gave up her boots. Turning, she pulled out her wand and with two quick flicks she sent her luggage off toward the Coyote Dorm. Sum leaped off as Olivia muttered the simple spell to return the carpet back to its owners. Once it shot off, she and Sum, made their way closer to the fire pit. Smiling, she asked, "So ready for a new years?"

Miles was just about to go crazy from waiting. Ok, so maybe he was a little impatient. Well, more like wanting to get it over with (since hopefully nothing like paperwork would be involved.) He was also sure that during the ride he could have counted the threads in the carriage's roof. Thankfully the carriage was slowing down, and he looked outside to see where he was. "Wow, now that's pretty neat," he said, nodding to the flame in the center of the courtyard. "I wonder if it's a magic flame or just a bonfire. It'd be cool if it was magic." He looked over to the girl who sat in the same carriage, and nodded. "Um," he started, scratching his head, "Ya need a hand from the carriage, lass? I think my mum and dad would have a cow if I at least didn't offer..." He then realized he hadn't even introduced himself. "I'm Miles," he said, holding out his hand and looking a bit sheepish, "Miles McLellan."

Karen stepped out of the carriage that had carried her to the Circle. Brushing her hair out of her eyes and stretching, she wondered about what the school was going to be like. She knew what it had been at her last school, but figured that the school was going to be tougher than what she was used to. She had a bit of a smile on her face as she approached the bonfire. She didn't know what her brother was doing in Salem, but she knew that whatever it was, it couldn't be good. She was determined to learn as much as she could so that she wouldn't be stuck playing the 'damsel in distress.'

Ariel Moore The ride was slightly bumpy, but not utterly unbearable. Nyx, though, had hooked his claws into her thighs, and it was less than comfortable. He was crouched low, a low growl emitting from his throat each time the carriage rattled, and no amount of petting would settle him. She'd been peering out the small window, hoping to see something in the dark forest. She could have sworn she'd seen a few shadows move, but she couldn't be sure. Nyx did not help the situation. The light up ahead relieved her - she wasn't sure how long she was meant to be waiting. She jumped slightly when the boy opposite her spoke - she'd zoned out so that she'd forgotten about him. So rude of her! She smiled and nodded at his speculations.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Miles. My name is Ariel Moore, and this is my dearest Nyx, who is less than pleased to be in here." She shook his hand when he offered it, and gestured to the black cat when she spoke about him, who gave a hiss at her when she took her hand away from his back to do so. "Oh, relax. We're here," she crooned, prying his claws out of her. She then smiled at Miles again, saying in response to his offer to help her out, "Thank you so much! That is very kind of you."((Welp, I hope you're talking to Ariel XDDD If you're not, let me know.))

"No problem at all, lass." He gave Ariel a wry grin as he helped her out. "I just figured on being a gentleman, though to be quite honest, I think the lads back at home would be laughing hysterically right about now." Miles then regarded the cat. "He doesn't bite or claw, does he? I mean, well..." He then scratched his head in embarassment. "I'm rambling, aren't I? You can tell me to shut up if I am." ((Works either way. He's been kinda hanging there, and I figured he'd probably help the other girl out too if she decided to respond. If not, then it at least gets him out of the carriage.))

Ariel Moore Ariel gave him a nod, thanking him again as she stepped down, Nyx having climbed up and clinging to her shoulder when she stood. A puzzled expression crossed her face when he spoke of his home. "Why on earth would they laugh at you? You're being a perfect gentleman." As though agreeing, Nyx leaped from her shoulder to the ground, padding over to sniff at Miles's feet.
At his questions about Nyx, she smiled and replied, "Oh, only a little. It helps if you're not a rodent or bird. He's fairly well-mannered, but he does have his slip-ups." The cat grumbled at this, slinking back to his mistress. "You're not rambling, and so I don't mind it," she laughed. On a more serious note, though, she added, "But it would probably be best if we moved over there." She gestured to the fire, which Nyx hissed at, resulting in a light tap on the nose from Ariel.((Alright >< I just realised I'd been calling Nyx Salem. I have no idea what that was about XDDD))

He sat across from his sister, both alike in appearance, and near opposite in demeanor, but, no one could deny the ambitious thirst for adventure that marveled within them. As he darted a glance towards his twin sister, he couldn’t help but note the rigidity in her soft features, and at that, he raised a furrowed brow and held his silence.
Bright white basketball shoes featuring the famed checkmark of Nike pressed against the cobblestone sidewalk circling the expanse of green grass where a pit of fire roared in the center. Turning back to help his sister down, they both circled around the other students. Anticipation was brimming beneath the surface as he spotted the headmaster easily, as, he was perhaps the only male professor within the entire school.
His parents had their views on Riley Quillen, to which, mostly consisted of negativity. It had never struck him though, not like his sister. Lilac eyes turned, and he could already see the spitfire in the eyes of Dahlia.
But before he could ever acknowledge her, a flurry of white had shadowed his peripherals as teeming white feathers elegantly folded at both sides with gentle talons clasped around the shoulder of Brian’s black robes. ”Frost, there ya’ are, I was starting to think you shouldn’t show until after supper.” His voice rang with clear southern diction.

𝕯ahlia 𝕻ierce𝔉irst 𝔉ormer╔═════════════════════╗𝕯ahlia had lingered in demure silence throughout most of her journey, never sparing more than a glance at the other occupants in her carriage, and even fewer, towards her own brother. She had never cared for him more than should need be, but she held her grace, and accepted his hand with a warm smile penetrating through the crisp autumn breeze with radiance. Her own owl remained close, content to remain caged amidst the students, and through the dark forest, and even now, as she slipped down onto the earth with soft ballet flats and gazed around before taking her place beside her brother.
Instantly, the swirl of lavender and lilac eyes veered to meet the young headmaster, the male prodigy of a once all woman school. She didn’t envy him, though she didn’t despise him either, her feelings muddled with thoughts of narcissism and pride. She shouldn’t even be in this school, and she knew it, but why her parents were so adamant when their disgust was clear as day--?
It was a mystery she had to solve. ”Come Eve, I’m sure you’re tired of sitting there.” Dahlia had mumbled under her breath as dropped the bird cage to the ground gently and unclasped the lock, allowing the fierce regal owl the freedom to hop out and stretch its wings. ╚═════════════════════╝

Miles nodded at Ariel and started walking in the direction of where the crowd was gathering. He could already see the other first formers gathering around, and noticed that, with the exception of one, all had their pets with them. Which made him think of his own pet. Thankfully, Harvey wasn't necessarily a high-maintenance pet, so he could probably wait until Miles got back to whichever dorm he'd be sorted into to be taken care of. He was definitely nervous, but he hid it behind a slight smirk as he regarded his classmates. He didn't know any of them, save for Ariel and the second formers who had shown him to the carriages. He noticed the headmaster as well, and blinked in surprise. He had heard from his parents that the school was changing some of its own stricter stances to allow male students, but he didn't realize that the headmaster was a guy. Suddenly his nervousness was replaced with relief. He definitely wasn't the only guy at school, seeing as there were others. "Maybe I should have paid better attention in class..." he mumbled. "At least it wouldn't be such a surprise."

Karen looked at the other students as they approached. She felt awkward in the dress she wore, and fidgeted. Maybe they'd let her wear pants when this was all said and done? She'd hate to wear this thing when it started to get cold. Not only that, she'd feel a lot more comfortable. She suddenly found herself pulling down on the skirt of the dress, trying to cover a bit more as she fidgeted. Ok, so not maybe a good first impression. She looked back toward the teachers as she stood there, trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Yeah, whatever was going to happen, she was nervous. She tried to remember what it was her brother told her about the school, but all she could remember was that he had mentioned something about being sorted into different dorms. That helps, she thought.

Storming through the party like my name was El Niño When I'm hangin' out drinking in the back of an El Camino As a kid, was a skid and no one knew me by name. I trashed my own house party ‘cause nobody came. Cause we like having fun at other peoples expense and, Cutting people down is just a minor offence then, It's none of your concern, I guess I'll never learn. I'm sick of being told to wait my turn. 𝕬ndrew 𝖂ollace 𝕬wol 𝔉irst 𝔉ormer Smooth, concrete slabs lay vast in the open expanse of the Floo Powder Shuttleport that was ignited crystal clear in his eyes, even after he had hurried himself into a fleeting carriage and instantaneously combusting into conversation with those around him. With chestnut brown hair bleached blonde from the sun’s persistent rays tousled wildly even from where it lay hidden behind his pointed black hat, Andrew Wollace was a peculiar boy. An aloof grin always rested on his features with half lidded eyes and an optimistic way of life, carefree, and alive. A large, robust hand held unto the trucks of his skateboard, clad in simple black grip tape with a strewn of blotched paint and undecipherable graffiti graphics decorated along the under wooden trim.
Classmates, he realized, striding up along the circular path hovering around the crackling bonfire, and his eyes pondered upon each and every one lingering once or twice upon a pretty face and a smile on his lips. They’ll look gnarly, Awol gambled, his gaze had scanned through the crowd and fell upon two particular figures. Oh, but she, he was struck immediately, looks like she needs some fun.”Sup?” His calm, low tenor voice hurled across the threshold as he approached one in particular, short mousey brown hair and big, bright, innocent eyes. She fumbled with the hem of her dress, as he approached, and circled around beside her with a lopsided and goofy grin; skateboard held close to his side with a firm grip. ”I’m Andrew—but—everyone calls me Awol, what’s up? Ya’ new here too?”

Karen started when the boy spoke to her, since she had been preoccupied with pulling at her dress. She looked him over, and a smile seemed to alight in her eyes. Finally, she thought, someone that made her more comfortable around this place. She was more used to the guys she grew up with, and he reminded her of one of her friends, at least in appearance. She rose an eyebrow at his name. Yep, definitely like him she thought. "Awol, huh?" She smirked and asked jokingly, "Ya run away from something?" She then took in the board and smiled a bit. "I'm Karen Wilson. Yep, I'm new. You skateboard?"

Sean arrived at the Circle, completely unsure what to do or even say. The boy could not deny he was nervous. He stood near the edge of the crowd his eyes searching, searching for Kyle, though he knew he wouldn't be here. His best friend was a year younger then him, making it so they had to be in separate schools. "Well what to do now?" he thought aloud, after all no one had even noticed him. I wonder what this place is like? He wondered curiously.
