Shawn Darrow was excited for the first time in a long time. It was only recently that the street kid had learned that there were other Rockets his age among the huge organization that he had joined a few months ago. He wished he would have looked into it sooner! It was only when he started asking people jokingly just how many Rockets people recruited as teenagers that he was directed to a search database on the Rocket computers. Turns out there were a total of four people born the same year he was.

User ImageQuickly jotting down their code names, the grunt kid attempted to send them messages via Rocket 'dex in the hopes of getting to meet them. What were the like? Why had they joined Team Rocket? What was in it for them? What did they think of it so far? All those were questions he was burning to ask, but only face to face. In the message he sent, it was just a casual hello and an invitation to meet him and other Rockets their age in the cafeteria the next day for lunch. Maybe they could all talk and get to know each other. There was such a small number of them, after all. It couldn't have been easy for the team's youngest members to prove they were worth something on their own.

From the information Shawn had access to, there seemed to be two girls and one boy aged 16 besides himself. One of the girls had been in Team Rocket before he'd even been recruited, but the other two had entry data that seemed newer. There wasn't much on them. All he could do was stare at the code names he had messaged to and wonder if they would even want to show up. Violet was the girl who had been at TR the longest. Rayna was another grunt who seemed more recent. The last guy was so new that he didn't appear to have a codename yet, so Shawn had to use his ID number instead when sending the message.

Would they come...? Darrow sat at the table by himself, chewing thoughtfully at an apple as he waited. He hoped he didn't look too conspicuous, sitting alone and waiting for others. Was this how people waiting for dates felt like? But no, this wasn't a date, it was just a meeting between peers. That's all it was. He had to calm down.

Who was this kid? Rayna wondered as she made her way through the crowed cafeteria. What was he like? Why did he join team rocket? Was he cute? The grunt looked around, wagging her tail. And why did he want to meet her? Was it just to meet others her age, or did he have something planned? Was this meeting for getting to know or plotting? A million questions bounced around the grunts head as she surveyed everyone, looking for someone who looked expectant, waiting... Ah! There he was.

Rayna sashayed over to the boy she'd looked up in the database last night. He was cute, she admited. Before he could notice her she straightened up her uniform skirt and smoothed away wrinkles, then slipped up beside the boy. Grinning broadly she stared down at him, then bent over and gave him a nice big lick on the cheek.

...

"Zin."

A quiet voice demanding attention cut through the crowd, and Rayna froze. Oh dear, he was caught. With a devilish grin the Zorua returned to his pokemon state and squeaked happily up at Shawn, whos lap he was now sitting in. It was so much fun pretending to be his trainer, especially seeing how people reacted when human gave way to his little black and blue fuzzy self.

The real Rayna moved easily towards them, long red hair in a messy bun and long bangs nearly hiding her face. "Zin." she repeated, "How many time do I have to tell you not to do that?" Rayna walked -seeming to glide, rather- up to the little fox and pet him affectionatly on the head. "Sorry." The real grunt looked at the other one. "Hes a tricky one." Her voice wasnt apologetic, even though she was, but rather flat, sweet but lacking emotion.

"Return, you brat." Rayna held up a pokeball and Zin was whisked inside.

Shawn, obliviously chewing away at his apple, was so lost in thought that his gaze had glazed over as he stared off into space. Because of this, he didn't even see Rayna come up to him or notice her presence until he felt her stare boring into him as she grinned. Somewhat creeped out by said grin, the kid was just about to turn to properly regard the young woman when she leaned forward to lick his cheek.

Well. That was one way to say hello.

And, unfortunately in Shawn's paranoid world, it translated into a pokemon attack with the intention of paralyzing him.

He proceeded to freak the ******** out.

"WHAAAA-?! GETTHEHELLAWAYFROMMEE!" He yelped, jumping up from his seat, skidding backwards, and waving his arms about comically. He proceeded to do this in the fashion typical of shaking off a stray cobweb - a cobweb that suddenly came to light as a real web with a large, angry, poisonous spider still clinging to it.

"@#%!#&#xSH;IT!#^!@CRAP@#$DAMNIT" the boy continued to spew as he tripped over his own shoelace, falling hard on his back as he slid across the cold, cafeteria tile. His half-eaten apple rolled away lazily under a neighboring table. He breathed hard and froze where he was, staring at the 'girl'. One sentence crossed his mind. What the ******** called a name.

Glancing into the crowd for the source of the voice before looking back at the - the thing that had licked him, it grinned a familiar, devious, inhuman grin and reverted to its lupinesque shape. It was the same pokemon he'd encountered in the cafeteria on one of his first days as a Rocket. The last one had turned into him, giving Shawn a full demonstration of just what the new Unova pokemon could do. If he wasn't careful, those things were going to give him a heart attack one of these days. They were almost as bad as ghost-types.

Clutching at his chest as he attempted to breath deep and lower his heart-rate, Shawn sat up irritably, ashamed for having once again made a fool of himself. At the very least, Lindsay hadn't come out of her ball to add to the fuss. She only seemed to react especially strong to danger or other females. Wait...did that mean that that pokemon had been male?

"Y-you think that's funny, do ya?" he gasped, glaring at the little beast that sat contentedly in his lap. He didn't dare try to brush it off or even touch it. He wasn't going to put his hand anywhere near those teeth. "What, you a girly guy or something? Zin?" he repeated, recalling the name that had been spoken.

At last the creature's trainer came to claim him, giving him a brief scolding before patting him on the head and apologizing to Shawn. He swallowed, muscles still tense. "Aren't they all?" he asked uneasily with a sheepish smile. He didn't relax, however, until Zin was safely back in his pokeball. Heaving a great sigh of relief, he put his head in his hands. It seemed even with Lindsay's help, his pokephobia wasn't as cured as he'd thought.

Finally he reached over to grip the table and hoist himself to his feet, wiping his hands on his baggy jeans before holding his hand out to the girl. Her face - it matched with the picture of the Rocket Rayna. Was it her...? Really her this time? "Uh...pardon my asking, but...you're not a pokemon...are you?" he inquired, skeptical still. Though she seemed normal enough and he had yet to meet a pokemon that could speak, her apathetic demeanor was still unnerving to him. Shawn could never be too cautious.

"Uh...Sorry about that. He startled me was all." He scratched the back of his neck with his free hand. "I'm Shawn. Nice to meet you...Rayna, right?"

User Image Violet bounded into the cafeteria with her beloved sheltie-colored growlithe, Artie, trailing behind her. "Can ya believe it, boy? Someone actually wants to meet me! No, a couplea someones! No one here's ever invited me to come have lunch with them. And now, there's gonna be a group!" She scrunched up her nose as she peered at the screen of her purple pokedex, rereading the message she had received the day before. She turned the screen of the pokedex down and practically shoved it into Artie's nose. "I wonder who it could be!" she half-whispered, choking down an excited giggle. Her eager eyes scanned over the crowd, trying to pick out anyone who looked to be about her age.

Suddenly, she heard a young male voice screaming followed by clattery commotion coming from the crowd. Violet dropped her pokedex in surprise, jumping slightly in her boots. She heard another voice - female this time, and young. "That must be them, Art! Ooh, I'm nervous! What if this was a trick? What if they turn out to be like Kunai?" She bit her lower lip anxiously as she played with the chunk of hair that had, until recently, been several inches shorter than the rest of her brilliantly purple bob, thanks to the elite agent's temper and blade.

After a short moment, Artie gently picked up the device between his teeth, and nudged his trainer towards the noise. She smiled warmly at her companion, patting him on the head as she retrieved her pokedex from his maw. She took a deep breath, then half walked, half skipped towards where she heard the voices coming from.

She approached a table where two people - a boy and a girl - were gathered. They looked to be her age (and he was kinda cute! In a nervous, yelpy, slightly panic-striken way...), and seemed nice. She smiled widely. "Hey there! I...uh, I think you sent me something about meeting up? Well, here I am! Nice to meetcha! I'm Violet, and this here's Artie!" She gestured to her puppy poke with a gloved thumb. "It's super nice of you to invite me out to have lunch with you! Have you two been Rockets long? Who are you roomies with? Which pokemon do you have? I've got nine myself. There's Artie, and McGee, and Flume, and Scramps, and MINE!!! (She's shiny!), and Candie, and Chikory, and Love Song, and Fluff-N-Tumble! A'course, I can';t take them all with me when I go out on missions, so some of them stay home and keep my bed all warm and toasty for me. Not that I've been out on missions, but sometime soon they'll let me... Do you have a favorite pokemon type? Mine's grass, like McGee. He was the very first one I got. And he's purple, like me!"

Artie, by now used to Violet's word vomit, pressed himself against her side and leaned into her, gradually putting more weight on her. Violet paused, patting Artie on the back. "Oh, sorry guys...that's Art's way of telling me I've talked your ear off." She grinned sheepishly and blushed slightly.

Rayna took the boys hand gently, not a firm hand shake but rather a delicate, feminine one. She showed no sigh of emotion at all, until suddenly a high continuous chatter assulted her ears.

Really? The girl talked that much? Did she ever breathe?

Her impression of Shawn was quick, he was obviously quite a scaredy cat. This led Rayna to wonder, of course, why that was. She would have to inquire later. In the mean time... Rayna let her loose hair hide most of her face. The chattery one, Violet, she called herself, was a bit intimidating. Scarey, not at all, but rather... Well, 'ear-rape' seemed to describe the whole incident quite nicely. "Rayna," She muttered, then waved at the boy. "Shawn."

"Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!" "Gwynnnnn..." Rayna moaned, her first real sign of emotion, at the Litwick that had escaped her ball and drifted to bob in front of Violet. Since befriending her, the little candle seemed to take quite the liking to humans. As it were, Rayna took a liking to pokemon. Shaking her head at Gwyn, the grunt bent down and held out a hand. "Hey Artie. You are a handsome boy~"

The young male grunt blinked at Rayna's apperant lack of emotion, half wondering if his actions had offended her somehow when yet another invited member of their small group joined them. He hardly had time to say a friendly 'hello' when two things happened. First, the white-and-purple-wearing girl decided to begin with her intoduction, which turned out to be a pretty lengthy one. Second, the single pokeball in Shawn's pocket wriggled and burst open with a surge of red light. Lindsay was not pleased.

The boy immediately attemtped to clasp the ball shut, but it was too late; the Jolteon was already out, poised to fight, her gold-yellow fur sparking aggressively. There were so many females. So many! Two humans and a pokemon, now. They were all threats to her trainer. Would they try to steal him away from her? No, the couldn't! She wouldn't let them! Shawn was hers and hers alone! "Jolt! Jolteon!" she cried viciously, daring any of them to fight her for her precious trainer.

The street kid groaned. Nothing was going according to plan. The two girls had shown up, sure, but within the first few seconds of meeting, he was already showing his incompetnecy as a trainer, let alone a Rocket. This was embarrassing - more so than any display in front of most other Rockets before, because these were his peers. There were obviously certain things that even the youngest Rockets were expected to do and know, many of which it was clear Shawn did not.

Stepping in front of his Jolteon, both to pacify her and shield the others from any of her stray attacks, Shawn took a deep breath and smiled tiredly at the newcomer. She certainly was...perky, especially for a Rocket who had been here longer than any of her other peers.

"Hi, Violet. Thanks for coming," he began, still trying to process all that she had said in her last few sentences. "Yeah, that was me. Nice to meet you too." He eyed Artie cautiously, forcing his smile to remain, but leaned away slightly from the fire-type. "And...Artie. Um, I'm the grateful one here; I didn't know if anyone would show up. It's really cool to meet other Rockets our age - seeing as we're the youngest on the database and all."

His smile widened and he chuckled a little at Violet's enthusiasm. It seemed almost contagious. Darrow almost forgot about the furious Jolteon watching from behind him or the dangerous-looking Growlithe standing at the purple-haired girl's side. "Whoa, whoa, hold up! One question at a time," he urged, putting up his hands. "Er, I haven't been here too long...maybe a few months. Not nearly as long as some people. I've heard out of all of us, you've been here the longest," he noted. "How's it like?"

The boy paused, thinking. "Er...I'm still in the process of moving rooms because I just got promoted from Trainee recently, so I don't know who my roommate is yet. Holy - hold on, did you say nine pokemon?!" he asked, gaping at her. He didn't even comment on the bizarre names. Just the fact that she owned and cared for that many little monsters made Shawn question her sanity. "How can you handle that many?!" His voice was almost breathless when he could finally speak to ask. "I, uh...I only have one, and she's a handful." He glanced behind him at the growling eeveeloution.

A favorite pokemon type? They were all pretty disturbing to him... "I...guess I know the most about ghost and poison, since I grew up with them, but...they'd be my least favorite," he admitted. "Ghosts especially." Couldn't really have a favorite type if you feared them all. "That's cool, though...that you have a purple grass-type. Purple's my favorite color." And, by the looks of it, so was Violet's. After all, her name was Violet. Or at least her codename, anyway. Which reminded him...

"Oh! Damn, I keep forgetting," the boy cursed. "Sorry...still trying to get used to the whole 'codename' thing. Mine's Shadow, so just forget the 'Shawn' thing. Gotta stop using that name." He shrugged with a small, apologetic smile. Now her pokemon was leaning towards her. Was he going to knock her over? Bite her leg off? But no, Violet was insisting he was just telling her she was talking too much. Had she trained him to do that? How did she get so used to having him out of her pokeball?

Oh, good grief, there was another one. At least Darrow found some solace in the fact that he wasn't the only one who couldn't keep his pokemon in its pokeball. Lindsay's snarls increased a little as Rayna's Litwick emerged, but when the Unova pokemon went over to Violet instead of Shawn, it lessened again. Grunt Shadow didn't think he'd ever seen that pokemon before. "Hey, um...Rayna? What kind of pokemon is that?"

...He supposed he should get around to introducing Lindsay. But not now; later. There was too much going on and too many pokemon out and about as it was. They were all making Shawn nervous, and the two girls around Shawn seemed to be upsetting Lindsay all the more. He didn't trust her to behave with them about. Sneaking his Rocket ball out of his pocket, he silently and swiftly recalled her back, whispering to the ball that he was sorry and that he'd let her out soon.

"well hi, rayna and shawn! that's a pretty name. raaaaaayna. like, ray of sunshine!" violet squinted her eyes closed and smiled widely. when she opened them, she started at the ghost pokemon bobbing in front of her face. "ooooh, you're a cutie, you are! my candie'd love to play with you!" she squeed, tickling the underside of the zebra-striped ghost's chin (or, what would be the underside of its chin, if it had a chin, and wasn't a ghost...)

meanwhile, artie sniffed curiously at the stranger's hand, then gave it a big lick. he was sometimes wary around new people, but once his trainer trusted them, he was sold. he circled around underneath rayna's hand and leaned against her, panting happily. "grooowlllowlll" he rumbled, almost as if he were a purring cat.

soon, both artie and violet were interrupted by the sudden appearance of a rather peeved off jolteon. violet leaned back as the pokemon bared its teeth and sent sparks flying. she ever so slightly reached out a purple-gloved hand for it to sniff, but thought against it and retracted it. she rather liked being fully intact, thank you! instead, she smiled up at shawn as he answered her questions.

"i know, right? it's hard to meet people our age here. acourse, i don't mind being the youngest. makes me unique! aaaaaand keeps me cute!" she giggled. "and it's really cool being here with the rockets. some of them are scary, though. just watch out for a girl with pink hair holding a knife if you value your hair! but mostly they're cool. haven't met too many people yet. maybe they're just busy?" she trailed off.

she gave artie a few pats before continuing on. "aw shoot, nine's easy. i don't keep all of 'em around all the time, unless i'm in my room. you just gotta suss out their personalities. like artie here's super friendly, so he comes around with me lots of places. and mcgee's cuddly, so he makes a really good pillow at night. flume's got kind of a temper, so he mostly stays back in my dorm and comes out for battles. chikory keeps him company cuz he likes to keep to himself away from most other humans. stuff like that." violet glanced back down at the jolteon as she was mentioned. the eeveelution seemed much more amped up than her own raichu. she inched back to put a bit more distance between them.

he was afraid of pokemon, he said? sure, ghosts could be a *little* scary, but violet couldn't imagine being afraid of them as a whole. "awww, ghost pokemon really aren't that bad, once you get to know them. candie's a ghost, and she's as sweet as can be. maybe sometime you can meet her, and hang out with her and me for a little bit. maybe rayna here'd bring along her cute little ghosty, too!" she smiled at rayna to let her know she hadn't forgotten her. "and yeeeep! purple pokemon rule! chikory and mcgee are both purple grass types. they're kinda my mascots. goooooooo purple pokemon!" she cried as she struck a cheerleader pose with her arms outstretched over her head, then dissolved into giggles.

"oooh, codenames, eh? yeah, most people around here have 'em. mine's not so much a codename as a way of life! but really, my real name is violet. or iiiiiiis it? i'd tell you, but then i'd have to kill you, shadow." she stared into his eyes intently for just a moment before she giggled. she'd keep him guessing for awhile, at least. keep an air of mystery about her.

she sighed (somewhat out of relief) when shawn...er, shadow, recalled the jolteon. "bye, sweetie!" she called to the spot where she had been a moment earlier. "ooh, i should bring out love song sometime. he could keep your girl company. he's shiny, isn't that cool?"
