Welcome, brave treasure-hunters, to the first trip of the Build-a-Boss Workshop! The Negaverse has put together its first expedition team for this treacherous task.

You are to meet with the rest of your group in the middle of what used to be a garden or small herb farm of some kind. The ominous spires of the main Negaverse headquarters cutting into the deep-red sky can still be seen when you look behind you, and the torn and dusty remains of a cobblestone path visibly winds its way back up there as well. Vegetation is sparse, and what's there of it has been petrified into stone.

  • The expedition will begin at 7pm CST. That's about two and a half hours from the time of this post!

  • As the title implies, this game will be choose-your-own adventure, possibly with a few other things thrown in. Please try and post promptly, otherwise you risk being eliminated!

  • Being eliminated in one round does not necessarily mean you are out completely. So keep checking back for updates!

  • Feel free to RP in your character milling about while you're waiting for the game to start.

Wolframite came down the path, wary of any youma other than the one they were looking for popping out. That was the bad thing about the Rift. While DC had senshi around every corner, the Rift had youma around each turn. He could only wonder how they would find the one they were looking for with so many others around. Hopefully someone knew what they were looking for and how to track it or else they could point to any of the hundreds and youma and go 'Is that It?".

Regardless, it was an important mission, and he arrived in the garden. The place, like everywhere else, lacked life and color, and he wondered what a potted plant would do if it as ever taken into the Rift. Would it turn to stone or would it just stand out awkwardly among the wasteland? Not that he would be ridiculous enough to walk through the Rift with a pot of pansies but it was a curious thought to have.

Standing about, he found a hedge that was more a wall now than a decorative plant, and sat up on it, waiting. Looking around, he wondered where in this massive place a great youma could hide. He also wondered how large the Rift was. If they were able to drag a motorcycle through the hall and into the rift, he wondered that, on a full tank, how far one could go and what they would find. It was a good thing he didn't know how to drive or was stupid enough to try.

Fluorite came, but something was.. different. The young captain's usual smile was nowhere to be seen, her expression settled into a mask of careful neutrality. She was silent, completely and utterly, as she made her way inside the rift.

There was much on her mind, and much to do, indeed.

"General." She settled beside Wolframite. She'd known of his promotion, but hadn't gotten to speak with him until now, thanks to the...

Well.

The most chaotic meeting she'd witnessed in her whole negaverse career.

"It seems we're first..." Odd, Fluorite didn't think she was this ahead of time. "Congratulations on your promotion, by the way." Finally, she managed a smile, but it seemed a pale shadow next to how lively she usually was.

Sugilite reluctantly dragged her heels through the broken gravel and dirt as she trudged down the path. So much for not sticking her neck out. She had been assigned youma hunting duty after an unfortunate chain of events, far beyond her control, had ended with her coming back from a energy hunt empty-handed.

Now she was going to have to jostle against a bunch of, she presumed, violent antisocial malcontents for however long it took to find this great youma creature. Somehow, she felt, this would have been much more bearable if they just threw her into the pit by herself with a 'good luck' and a pat on the shoulders. Then when things would presumably go wrong, she wouldn't have anyone to blame but herself.

Pausing at the end of the path, she looked around at the unfamiliar people who had already gathered there. A captain and a general, from what she could remember of seeing them at meetings. Good, that wouldn't put much pressure on her at all. She stepped forward into the small clearing and bobbed a curtsy that was stiff from a slight attack of the nerves.

"Ah ... good evening. Lieutenant Sugilite at your service, sir, ma'm."

CYOA -- ROUND 1

A second road leads out from the petrified garden and into the landscape beyond. You all generally agree that it's a good place as any to start from, at least until something comes along the way that seems promising. As numerous as the youma in the Rift are, a Great youma is formidable enough that you should know one when you see one... right? The path has some remnants of cobblestones much like the one you arrived here on, but gradually gives way to a mottled strip of dirt that takes on slightly different colors from the rest of the dirt around it.

For the most part the landscape is a dreary ruin, with a sparse array of abandoned buildings and hills that would be rolling had they not been completely stripped of their grass. It begins to shift a bit as you continue along: the petrified trees that occasionally dot the hills start becoming greater in number, and the path you walk on is leading to a fairly dense arrangement of them up ahead.

It hits you that you really need to be prepared for this trip. Some of you get the compulsion to stop and check through the things you brought with you while you still have the chance to head back. Amongst the group members, you have enough first-aid essentials to slap a quick fix on anything that isn't too severe. However, is it possible you included something a little extra in case the search ends up being longer than expected?

As you look through your pack, there are two possibilities:

1. Only the essentials here: some cheap medical supplies and a flashlight. Taking anything else seemed a bit too risky, even for a long trip.

2. There's a bit of food or some energy orbs stashed underneath some bandages. This search could last hours -- or even DAYS -- and you'd rather have the energy to high-tail it out of here if things get rough!

(( The next round will be up in about two hours. There will be NO ELIMINATIONS this round: if you missed this one, please include your response to Round 1 with your response to Round 2! ))

Wolframite noted those around, most of which he didn't really speak to much, but he gave them the nod of respect they deserved. The mention of his promotion made him flash a awkward smile, a bit modest as he nodded. "Thank you." He never felt he should be congratulated for a promotion as it always felt he had been given it than earning it. Still, he slipped off the hedge to land and take up that position as a general should. These were officers that ranked below him and as such, being their superior, they were his responsibility. The last thing he wanted to do was have any of them hurt in the Rift when he was there.

When they all agreed on which path to take, Wolframite moved to the front, not at all liking the front of the group as he never was the leader type, but guessing that if anything did attack, it would attack him first. Not a comforting thought.

The place was barren aside from more of the gray, petrified landscape. It looked post-apocyliptic, as if a bomb had fallen and everyone would take hundreds of years to recover. He could have really done with some better scenery, but seeing as they were on a search, the less leaves and bushes in the way meant you could see out. What he did see was a petrified forest ahead of them. One that didn't look inviting, safe, and certainly looked dark. He didn't like it one bit, but if something was to hide, a youma might in a forest like any other creature.

He reached into his uniform, trying to remember what he had on him. If he had been more prepared, he might have brought a net or some ropes, but instead he just had some orbs that were clustered around some bandages. Not much, but better than a dollar and lint. Still, he wished he had grabbed a starseed instead. "We should be careful. Everyone look out for each other." He was serious about this matter. While they had some health essentials, he didn't want them to have any cause to use them.

Sugilite was nothing if prepared, and it was a small comfort to see the glow of an orb in her bag, nestled against a large canteen of water. The human body could survive without food for several weeks, but only a few days without water, and she certainly wasn't planning to die from thirst in this grey landscape.

She surreptitiously glanced around at the other members of the party, wondering how many others of them had brought along at least a thermos of liquid. If they started complaining, she certainly wasn't going to share. Tugging the rest of her supplies over the bottle, she made sure it was well concealed at the bottom of her pack, and trudged on.

Osumilite had been told to come prepared for anything, so he had packed accordingly. With him he brought cigarettes, snacks, a flask of scotch, bandages, condoms, a bottle of water, and a few orbs of energy at the bottom of his designer leather briefcase. Overpacked? Perhaps. Or perhaps he was under-packed, as his suitcase contained little foods of substance or other such essentials for a long trip. It was a thought that didn't occur to him until he arrived at the meeting point. The gloomy ruins of the haunted lands - he should have expected such unflattering grounds to be in route for something known as The Great Youma.

"How does this work exactly? Do we skip on down the yellow brick road to the Emerald City?" he asked with a laugh.

Raite noted his surroundings but didn't give much care to them; he expected no less from the rift. He merely followed last in the party, not particularly interacting with the other members of the search party.

The reason that he had tagged along was due to his intrigue, mild as it was, that a great youma could remain in the depths of the rift.

From his right shoulder to his left waist was the strap for a small messenger bag that rested at his waist. From his belt hung small box-like attachments that must've held several items as well (like a well-equipped pokemon trainer). He wasn't a person who carried much, taking along several items along with some cheap medical supplies and a flashlight. The lack of energy orbs was due to his aversion to relying on anything other than himself or his skill.

"Skip along, we won't bother to find you if you become lost." It was a perfectly bland tone in answering Osumilite, more of a statement rather than any sarcastic barb.

Garnet was not terribly thrilled to be here considering her..wonderful experiences with anything related to youma. She was only here because Hematine was interested in this thing, the youma somehow fascinated the man...that and they were stuck in the Rift for now. Apparently their little stunt during that joke of a meeting had essentially put them under the 'shun' list. This was something that simply would not do; Garnet needed to do whatever it took to fix that. She needed to be the center of attention wherever she went, damnit! She was idly inspecting her nails in a bored fashion as they walked down the road, only looking up when it seemed their decided path had been chosen. Well, fine.

For now she kept quiet, watching those around her. She needed to know what made them tick and what would please them the most. If Garnet had to kiss some a** and do away with her dignity for a few minutes so be it...the only thing she would not risk was her good looks. Again. She had as many medical supplies in her bag packed as she possibly could.

Hematine looked more than a little frazzled by the way things went at the meeting. Partly being pushed out a three story window, and partly how disgusting the water that he'd landed in had been. He was still soaked, using his scarf as a makeshift towel to wring out his hair.

As far as what he'd taken with him, he had no doubts - medical supplies, and lots of them. The food was all processed garbage, and frankly Hematine would rather starve. And energy wasn't going to keep him as clean as the extra bottles of rubbing alcohol he'd pocketed. And opened. And started using in place of hand sanitizer.

It was going to be a long night.

CYOA -- ROUND 2

((You can still reply to Round 1's prompt if you haven't already! This round will be open until tomorrow.))

All your things in their proper order, you start heading into the forest -- which would have been ominous enough without it being located in a cursed landscape crawling with unspeakable horrors. As the trees start overtaking your field of vision, you begin to see shadows in them that most definitely aren't branches or fossilized leaves. You swear that some of them are moving, shifting their forms along their perches as you pass them by.

The forest floor is barren and devoid of any sort of understory, the roots of the trees bare and trailing along the soil. However, much like the forests of the surface, this one is peppered with the noises of creatures heard, but not seen. Any hopes of seeing harmless little squirrels or happy songbirds would be pretty nonexistent: none of the sounds were remotely pleasant. Occasionally there was a distorted, warbling caw, or the rustling of something slinking through patches of dead brush nearby.

Your path ends here, with only your own footprints in the dust leaving any indication of where you had been going. For a while the group winds through the trees, occasionally suggesting directions to each other, and eventually you end up winding up at the very tracks you had been leaving behind.

Except an extra set has appeared on top of your own. And they aren't even remotely shoe-shaped.

WHAT WILL YOU DO???

1. Follow the weird tracks. At the very least they might lead you somewhere other than around in circles!
2. Try and find another path. They are obviously youma prints. They are also obviously not Great youma prints. It's best to steer clear.
3. Wait and watch. Whatever lives in this forest knows the place better than you do! If you're quiet and careful maybe something will turn up that you can follow.

option 3

Walking on, Sugilite spotted a few party members that had been in the center of attention at the hall earlier. Darn, darn, darn. With an effort, she kept her mouth shut and a determinedly stoic expression on her face. The last thing she wanted to do here was associate with trouble-makers. Unconsciously, she was drawing away from the group to the side.

When, after what felt like a good deal of walking, they arrived back at where it had began, she shook her head at herself. Of course, this would happen. Well, from now on she wasn't going to go climbing off into the undergrowth. What a stupid idea, really. She kicked a heel against the ground as she thought, dislodging the fossilized remains of a fallen leaf from the spike. No, the only thing to do was stay still and wait. She glanced around at the rest of the ragtag party, and decided to voice her opinions.

"We clearly know nothing about this place, so perhaps we should not be so rash as to dash off into it. If it isn't to bold of me to suggest, perhaps if we waited and looked around for other living things here, we might see see if they have any paths or ways through?"

Lieutenant Osumilite was not a coward, but he was no idiot either. He believed himself to be far too important and have far too much to live for to risk himself being killed so willy-nilly. He was only a Lieutenant, and as great as he believed himself to be, he didn't think that he would be able to defend himself alone against whatever left those tracks.

"Agreed," Osumilite nodded to Sugilite as he placed down his briefcase and opened it. He took out his a cigarette and lit it as he waited around. If he was going to sit and wait for help - or to be killed - he might as well enjoy the time!
