Danny was on the prowl, though for what, no one could really tell. A voice in her head just told her exactly what to do.
Stay low to the ground.
Yeah, okay, stay low to the ground, right.
Shhh, not a sound.
Her hands cupped around her mouth, so she was sure not to say anything at all. She was going to do this right, even if it killed her. Sure, she was noisily stomping around, but quiet just meant not saying anything, right?
Take it slowwww.
Danny nodded to this mysterious voice, like he was really right there, telling her what to do. Come to think of it, wasn't this in some movie?
Then...
The flaming demon ghoul went flying through the air, landing directly on a discarded golden earring. She picked it up and held it in her cupped hands like it was the pumpkin king crown jewels themselves. This was the best day in the world. A brand new shiny to add to her collection.
Promptly, Danny brushed her haphazard bangs out of her face and grinned greedily at her prize. No one was taking this from her. No one.

One earring... you couldn't do much with it. Granted, some people had just one ear piercing, but when the earring was golden and dangly and somewhat flowery, Vieve didn't expect someone to be wearing just one of.. these.
Following logic, the other one would have to be somewhere else... possibly somewhere close by. Her eyes caught a glint in the sun, just a little flash. But Vieve's eyes were sharper than most; she was used to the treasure-hunting business.
Funny, then, how she managed to miss the girl who'd been creeping up (good job, girl!).. until she pounced on the shiny thing. As she held it up, admiring it, Vieve got a better look- yes. It was the other earring.
Narrowing her eyes, the fire elemental grimaced. She needed that other earring back to be able to sell the pair off; and she'd get it, no matter what. Clenching her fist tighter around the earring she had, she walked over and knelt on the grass, beside the other girl.
"U..umm... I... I'm sorry, but I think that's mine. Could I have it back? Please?"
Vieve used The Smoulder... and hoped it would work.

Danny stared at the earring for a little while longer, content to just sit in the middle of the path, not saying a word. It was just so shiny.
Of course, all good things come to an end. Maybe. A ghoul with an innocent look on her face was claiming that Danny's earring was actually her earring. Danny's mouth twitched into a frown. This was her earring. It was her family. Family meant nobody got left behind.
"Um... I think ... you have the wrong earring. This one's mine." A very convincing argument. Even though the ghoul had just seen her clearly pounce on it and find it by chance, it was definitely already hers. Yup, that was totally the plan.
But ... that faaaace. Danny couldn't take Vieve's smoulder. It was just too powerful. She really, really wanted this shiny though. More than any shiny in the whole wide world of Halloween. More than Jack. Okay that was a lie.

"There are two earrings in every pair," Vieve replied. "It won't do to just have one.. see, it'll look so unbalanced when I wear them."
She held the earring she had out to the other girl, making to keep a firm hold on it so Danny couldn't grab it.
"See this? It's from someone really, really special to me. I... I can't bear the thought of never being able to wear these again, I mean, I panicked so much when I realised I was missing one side."
"If you give it back, I'll.. I'll be eternally grateful. It's like you saved my life."
Conveniently, she left out 'I'll do anything for you'. As a matter of fact, Vieve was quite ready to sell Danny the other earring... if she could afford it.

It would be a lie to say that Danny didn't think about snatching the other shiny right out of Vieve's hand. It would be so easy, just a side step, a launch, a tackle ...
Vieve was making an incredibly convincing argument too. Something about it was suspicious though. She seemed to care about the earring just a little bit too much. Then again, Danny felt the exact same way about the earring, so maybe her feelings were sincere? To test the waters, Danny said, "If I didn't know better, I'd think you had feelings for this earring," with squinted eyes.
Breaking her character a bit though, Danny's lips twitched downwards in a frown. What if this earring really did belong to this ghoul? Then she was stealing. Not the good kind of stealing either, like taking a comb from Roch, or cheating on a test. The bad kind where you actually hurt someone!

The other girl squinted at her, but Vieve was otherwise unfazed.
"Is that.. strange?" She tilted her head slightly, and let the hand holding the earring rest on her lap. "I mean, having.. feelings for something you own?"
"There's got to be something you'd never want to lose, either- something really precious to you, something that just.. can't be replaced, even if you got one that looked exactly the same." Would Danny buy this? Vieve had no idea; the only reason why things were precious to her was because of how much they were worth, naturally. One gold coin was as good as any other- but of course, two gold coins were better than one.
And speaking of gold coins.... how much did the fire demon really want these earrings? Now to see if she could steer the conversation towards that, somehow.

Danny looked at the ghoul, and the back to the earring. The ghoul, the earring. This was a tough decision. How was she supposed to decide on something like this? It was just too close to call!
There's got to be something you'd never want to lose, either.
It was true. When Danny thought of her skateboard, or Gamyiel, or Puppy, she couldn't imagine losing any of them. They were her most favorite companions! Her amigos!
At the same time though ... she really wanted this earring! It was like a little Jack was sitting on her shoulder and saying, Don’t listen to that ghoul. She’s trying to lead you down the path of righteousness. I’m gonna lead you down the path that rocks and a Sally was on her other shoulder saying, Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As a flame demonness, you need to understand that balance and respect all the creatures, from the crawling minipet to the dastardly ghost ghoul.
Danny sighed and gave in to Sally, if only a little bit. "I ... guess I can return this earring." Needless to say, Danny wasn't to happy about it, so she hadn't quite opened her hand and given it to Vieve just yet. It was still lingering in her hand. Just in case.

"Would you really? You're the nicest person I've met in the school!" More compliments. Always compliments. Saying positive things made people more inclined to do what you wanted them to- didn't it?
"I.. I guess I don't know that many people in school, though, being so new.. But no one's been as kind as you have!"
Grossss. The salamander's words were dripping with so much sugar she couldn't even stand it, herself. Better to end this soon.
"By the way, I don't think.. I know your name?" Smiling sweetly, Vieve stuck a hand out- more to ask for the other earring... than for a handshake.

"Y-yeah. No problem," was what she said, but her face told a completely different story. Danny was never good at hiding her emotions anyways. Her face said nononono, but her words said yes.
GAHHH. This ghoul was so sincere too. Look at her wittle face. She was just asking for an earring. Danny reached out her hand and dropped the earring into it. She slowly mourned the loss, thinking, The most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.
Finally, she said, "My name's Danny. Danny Fitz. I think I have to go." Did she want to leave just so she could find another earring? Maybe. She needed something to replace the UNENDING SORROW in her heart.
