At my school, there are 5 guitar players. I am better than all of them. Whenever I see them play, it makes me want to run up to them and take the guitar out of their hands and start playing! How about you? Does that piss you off?

If they're total assholes, then I'd ignore them. But just because you're better than them skill-wise shouldn't give you the right to hold a holier-than-thou attitude.
Who knows? They might end up being more successful than you in the future. xp

If they're posers, then ******** 'em.
But if they're people who honestly want to better themselves, then I think they need support, not ridicule.

bambulus If they're powers, then ******** 'em.
But if they're people who honestly want to better themselves, then I think they need support, not ridicule. I second that. I remember being one of the people in my school who wasn't that great, but after a while I got better and better until now ... I'm not in my school anymore, but I think I'm still playing more guitar than some of the guys I knew who were better than I was.

There are those who play guitar for the love of playing guitar, then there are those who play guitar to be popular. ******** the latter.

i agree w/ bambulus. ur situation sounds a little like mine. there are about 9 or 10 players at my school, most of them have been playing longer than me, but they suck. instead of being a jerk, u should show 'em some stuff, that way they mght get better and then u have someone to jam with. then if they get famous, you could tell everyone "hey, i taught that guy all that stuff" or "i used to jam with that dude in school". it has its rewards. and people are really thankful after u teach 'em stuff like guitar. people always suck up to musicians that rock. i have just started to have local musicians who dont even know me give me their employee discount at multuple places. in my world, i call it the homie hook up. then u become sort of a hometown celeb. all sorts of things can come out of it if u aren't an a**.

Amen to that. xd On a side note, you've got to admit that some of us started because of the want (or need? xp ) to attract the opposite sex. Or to attract attention. Or whatever.

There are too many guitar players for popularity at my school, and few guitar loving players like myself.

Ugh..yes. there was this kid last year at my school. him, and my friend had brought their guitars that day. so this little kid was being a p***k and not letting anybody touch his guitar...It was squier, standard. so I walked over with my friend's guitar, plugged into the pricks amp,(little Fender practice amp) and I just shredded him under the table. Never brought his guitar again, I laughed.

I like to think of it like this: I started playing guitar because of my heroes (well it was more of a.. HEY i wanna play guitar! thing a few years ago but whatever), and I continue to play guitar to express myself and to rock out when I need to. I think meeting cool peeps with the same interests, jamming with others, and the occasional "wow" from the opposite sex to be by-products of my art. Who doesn't like to get complemented on their guitarwork, ESPECIALLY if its from the opposite sex? I believe we are all guilty of this.

Most definetly, I agree with what you guys are saying. (going more off topic) Gigs and shows are nice, but playing by yourself when you are all alone is just plain awesome. Just you and the guitar becoming one...yeah sounds corny, but I'm sure you've all felt it XD
