I thought I'd post a question that I've been thinking about for some time now. That is what is that exact reason people do good deeds? Is it truly to help others or is it for the emotional stimulation that occurs as a result of doing good deeds. Futhermore, what would happen if then normal feelings of pleasure when people do good deeds were reversed to where they felt extreme guilt over doing nice things. For example if giving a starving man food made a person feel like they just killed someone would they keep helping the man even though they no longer gained joy and felt awful for doing it?

Your thoughts?

Maybe feeling good about helping others and the emotional stimulation that it provides are one and the same. How else would we feel good about helping people?

Indeed. Though I was maybe unclear about that I do believe that the feeling good is the emotional stimulation. The main question is if people would keep helping others if that good feeling for doing it was removed and replaced with the feeling the normally comes with doing something wrong.

It depends entirely on who it is specifically. I try to be nice because I believe it's the "right" thing to do. I know some people who are nice because it feels good. I also know complete jerks who believe that they're making people stronger, thus being kind in a way.

If being nice made you feel terrible, not many people would be nice... There are a few who would, but I, admittedly, am not one of them.

Something good isn't always good in different condition. Something bad can be a good thing when it's in right time and right place.
