It was a perfect night for a hunt. The moon was large and lit the city streets with a cold blue light, and the weather was warm, with a strong breeze. It lifted papers and rattled trash cans, helping mask any stealthy footsteps. A storm was coming, but for now, the sky was clear.
Sugilite kicked off and jumped, landing awkwardly on the second story balcony of a dirty run down house. As usual, she was sticking to the parts of the city where there wasn't much worth protecting, in terms of money. Cops stayed away, and she was more than a match for any band of roving thugs. She could certainly run faster, if necessary. Tonight however, she was charged up with determination after the last meeting she had been called to. Plans were afoot! People were on the move! And she had to step up the energy collection. In this part of the city, no one walked alone. So it was simple, come up behind them, knock their heads together a bit, then drain them and move on. Plus she was cleaning up the streets at the same time, it was tantamount to a public service.
She rapidly scaled the fire escape that connected to the balcony, allowing her to reach the rooftop and her favourite hunting vantage. There was nothing like looking down over a street, watching people moving around like so many ants. Well, from this height, very large ants. But bugs, nevertheless. There was an awful dive of a bar barely a block away, so she settled down to wait, certain that a group of people would pass by eventually.

Sailor Ate was doing everything Sugilite was doing but with far less grace...and skill....and general jumping across rooftops. She had taken the bus actually. Not powered up of course but to get to this segment of city she was not about to walk. That would just be mean. Plus she had been hitting the smokes pretty heavy recently, not out of choice but when a 20ft chicken tries to kill you stress can be a factor. It hadn't taken long for the Sailor scout to pick out what she was looking for. The Bar. And not just any bar, her bar. Yeah it was a dive, yeah there was questionable substances on the walls, but it was quaint and cosy and the people that visited where the ones that spoke Venice's language....absolute drunkenness. But with this gig came bad news, people had started going missing. Regulars that she spoke too, that she knew. She understood that she couldn't be bias with who she protected, that where ever she felt the energy pull her too she would have to go, but she couldnt help but feel she needed to check in on this place, even if it was only for 5 minutes every night.
She walked the alleyways, careful to slip into shadows when someone came past. Too drunk to give her any notice but possibly sober enough to remember a strange girl in costume. She wasn't about to risk it. Especially now that she recognised someone. Mary. An old dear with as many brain cells as she had teeth. Hard times had slapped her good, but she was friendly and could sing like nothing Venice had heard before. They had shared many drunken rambles to the bus station in the past and she had a soft spot for the elderly drunkard. It was just unfortunate she was on her own, pissed of her face and unsure of her footing, but she had done this route a thousand times before. She wasn't someone Sailor Ate needed to concentrate on. She moved past her not giving a second thought as the negaverse agent sat somewhere watching above.

Sugilite rested her hands in her palms and sighed quietly. This was the dull part, waiting. And, apparently, getting a cramp. She stretched her legs and leaned over the balcony, willing something, anything to happen. Suddenly she paused. Did something lurk in that shadow? Had she seen movement? Reaching up, she took off her glasses to wipe a hand across her eyes. Why on earth would she be getting paranoid, what could she have to fear from shadows? The only threat out here was senshi, and they certainly didn't lurk. Dance around like idiots, yes, but sulk in shadows, no.
Pushing her thick glasses back into place, she suddenly spotted the old lady wobbling her way down the street. Life at last! She felt a flash of bitterness, almost resentment towards the woman. Here she had been waiting for a group of drunk delinquents, maybe even older men. A little old woman wasn't what she had been expecting, or hoping for. She doubted the woman had any energy to give, let alone a decent amount. The fact that 'beggers can't be choosers' applied to this situation annoyed Sugilite even more. She was a beggar, searching for .... for gosh darned scraps in the gutter! Sitting for hours, with only a drunk old bag to show for it! Glowering, she kicked off the roof and landed heavily behind the old woman, one hand whipping out to cover her mouth, the other to grab her and drag her into the nearby alleyway.

Venice had skipped around the corners of the streets her form closed in by shadows as she rested her eyes on the bar. The usual crowd could be seen from the dusty windows and the knot of tension eased slightly. Everyone seemed to be having a nice time, no panic, no flashing blue lights calling for help. No one had gone missing this night. Not yet. She could rest easy...well sort of. This area may be clear but DC was a huge city, sure there was more than just her but she couldn't just stand her dreaming of a beverage. A quick deal was proposed, if she caught a agent or defeated a youma this night then a treat was deserved! Venice needed no second bidding.
She whipped herself around, coming back the way she came hoping to avoid the steamed Mary who she had left going in the opposite direction but...she wasn't there. Wow, the old bird could still move but...she wasn't that fast...actually she was incredible slow and add booze to that mix Mary shouldn't have been working her way out of this alleyway for at least another hour. s**t. The knot was back with a vengeance as the Sailor scout sprinted forward. It was the first time she was hoping to see a collapsed old woman in a gutter, at least that meant she was ok...or hospital worthy ok. Not chaos worthy. She couldn't possibly be seen as anything for the negaverse to worry about or want. She was two breaths away from shuffling off this mortal coil, what could her energy possibly do?
Her feet scrapped the ground in seconds as she raced down the road, her appearance no longer on her mind, she didnt give a dam if she was seen any more and either way this guilt was doing enough damming for everyone combined. How could she be so stupid? How could she not have seen her home? The sudden memory of the girl she didn't help that first night in DC flooded back. No. She couldn't let that happen again. The thick steam of air bellowed out of building as Sailor Ate sprinted past closed restaurants and shops. The place was deserted but it didn't stop her forcing her ears to pick up a sound, any sound. Anything would do. Just...There! She could hear steps and...now a muffled moan! Her legs felt like they were racing ahead as she pushed out a hand to the wall stopping herself from running past the alleyway, the shadows casting the whole street into darkness she could barely see past the first few meters. But someone was in there and that someone had Mary. There was no question, no hesitation. The Senshi threw herself down the alley, a deafening roar seeking to claim the ears of any who opposed her as she leapt forward. Sugilite was waiting to be discovered.
"Get away from her you Negaverse creep! I am Sailor Ate! Defender of drunken alcoholics and wasted hippies! In the name of Ate I will stop you!"

Sugilite had been draining the woman slowly, while mulling over where she should go next. Maybe back to the bar, only this time go inside and lure some people out? The patrons were so inconsiderate, making her waste her night playing the most tedious game of whack-a-mole ever. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of feet pounding down the street towards her direction, and she had skipped farther back the alley, one hand in the old drunk's chest, the other holding the woman firmly by the collar. It had been her swift move father back into the dark side street that saved her from being barrelled over by the enraged senshi.
For a split second, Sugilite almost dropped the woman and ran. Then the orders she had recently received rung in her head. If you're interrupted, grab the seed. We need all the energy we can get. She swiftly yanked the rather pathetic starseed from Mary, and flung the suddenly motionless body forward at her unseen opponent. Backing up more, she glanced around, looking for an escape route, and trying to get a better glimpse of the self-proclaimed Sailor Ate. As always, while her mind raced to find a plan, her mouth already had a taunt sitting on the tip of her tongue.
"Oh? Is this walking garbage bag yours? You can have it back then, I've no more use for it. Do try and put it away somewhere nice and private where decent people don't have to be assaulted by it's stench."

Sailor Ate could only stand with her mouth wide open as she watched Sugilite rip the star-seed from the woman's chest. Not only because this was the first time watching a star-seed being stolen but also because of the way she did it. It was cruel, it was heartless. It was everything it needed to be to seal the deal for why she had to go down. Why all negaverse agents had to go down.
"Nooo! Mary!" The girl leaped forward to catch the heavy comatose body, it brought her down like a sack of spuds but she clung to her none the less. Her body was already frail and weak, this was going to kill her if she didnt get the star seed back.
"You monster! Hand that star seed back before I smash your face in!" Venice was fuming, her whole body was shaking as she looked over at the agent. She couldn't understand it. This girl looked no older than a teenager yet she was spiked with chaos, she reeked of it. It was inhuman. It was wrong.
"Give it back now!" she slipped from underneath the still form and jumped onto her feet, arms pulled up ready, fists clenched and shaking with the tension that she couldnt let go. She could see the girl was backing up, planning an escape. She couldn't let that happen. Venice knew, just knew, that if the girl ran she would never be able to catch up with her. She just wasn't the running type, she didnt have the stamina. But she could punch. Oh hell yeah, she could punch. She lunged without thought, bringing her whole body into her right hand, the weight of 20yr old roller derby fanatic coming into this one hit. She was either going to break a nose or break some knuckles.

If Sugilite had been aware that the senshi in front of her had never seen a starseed taken before, she would have made more of a show, slowly pulling it out to rattle her opponent as much as possible. Tossing the faintly glowing object up and down in one hand, she lashed out with her tongue, still searching for an exit.
"Oh my, you were on first name terms with it? How amusing, did you feed it leftovers on your morning walks? It's best not to, it only encourages the things to nest here."
She couldn't help noticing, as Ate stood up and clenched her fists, that she had a fair bit more muscle than the other senshi Sugilite had seen. It wasn't exactly something that reassured her, and she decided that taking a direct hit from this woman was a no-go. She would stick to scrapping with the ones whos arm muscles didn't bunch up threateningly like that.
It had been a good thing that she was focusing so intently on the senshi's body, instead of eyeing the alley around her. That fact and that alone was what allowed her to duck in time, but she heard the fist whistle by her ear and felt a sting from it brushing along the side of her face. Too close, far too close. Dropping, she grabbed at Ate's waste, trying to tackle the woman to the ground. If she could just get past her, out the alley mouth, and start running, she would be home free.

Ate heard a crunch resounding in her ear, it was deafening, it was painful, it was her crushing her teeth together at the sound of Sugilite's insult. This was a human, a drunken very old human, but human none the less. With hopes and dreams...mainly involving alcohol but still dreams. Dammit she didnt deserve this! But her anger made her distracted. She wasn't fast but she should have caught the agents movement, should have seen her duck out of th way, instead her hand with flying into the space behind her, hitting nothing but air.
"UMFF! GET-OF ME!" she felt the force of the girls attack, the wind threatening to escape her lungs with the impact but remaining just about there. Luckily (or un-lucky depending on how you view it) Venice weighed a lot more than some of these skinny girls and this one tackle wasn't about to land her on the ground just yet. With a clenched fist Ate jabbed her elbow down onto the back of Sugilite's head, hoping to break the hold she had on her waist and push her away. Yeah it was giving her the chance to run for it, the alley entrance was mere meters away not to mention the fire escape stairs that were begging to be climbed, but this girls grip, dammit she had to hand it to her, it hurt like hell. But the starseed, she needed it back.
"Give it back you tramp! GIVE IT BACK!" Sailor Ate pulled back her arms, her fingers itching to taste the power she could wield. And all this pollution. Thank god for scrummy people who littered. She could drown this agent in the waste produce of this alley.
"I wont say it again Nega-creep! Hand it OVER!"
**Again you are more than welcome to run off with it, gives Sailor Ate more reason to hate you guys XD!!!**

Sugilite felt like she tackled a brick wall. Like she tackled She-Hulk. It was a reminder, that while she jogged and skipped and kept herself in good health, she didn't bench-press trucks like this woman clearly did. She felt her grip on the other girl's tight skirt slip as the senshi brought an elbow down onto her head, making her vision dance and sparkle. She pushed back from Ate quickly, certain that staying in close to the muscled girl while she was seeing double was bad.
Hopping backwards, rather unsteadily, Sugilite backed further up the alley, shaking her head. She hadn't noticed the fire escape, intent as she was on keeping the senshi within her sights, but as her wobbly gait brought her up against it with a bump, she suddenly felt her spirits lift. Already her vision was clearing, and the ground had stopped shaking like jello. there was no mistaking the rattle of the metal stairs she had heard, and Sugilite knew she had been delivered her freedom. That meant only one thing, time to lip off again.
"You know dear, you won't ever get anything in life if you ask like that. Try using the magic word sometime, showing a bit of manners is never out of place. But really, after all those hurtful things you've said, I feel quite indisposed to giving anything to you, be it the time of day or this pathetic little thing."
The starseed was brought out, dangling in her hand for a moment, before it was flung upwards, with all her strength, sailing up into the air almost as if in slow motion, over the lip of the building and onto the roof . Sugilite didnt' stop to watch, though she was counting on Ate to. The moment she had flung it, she had turned sharply on her heel and jumped, using her full unnatural strength to land a full story up on the fire escape. Jumping again, she was two storeys up, and with a third she disappeared over the edge of the roof after the path of the thrown crystal, scooping it up where it lay. Not stopping to see if she was being followed, not even turning her head back, Sugilite legged it off along the roof, jumping to the next and the one after that.

It was just like slow motion, horrible horrible slow motion. It happened and all that Ate could do was stare. Stare and gasp as the starseed was lifted into the air with the throw and into the blackness of the shadows. No....
No, no no...
The words were hardly registered as Suglite spat out her insult and began leaping back into the darkness, the sailor scout making a half hearted attempt at trying to grab her but she was too quick. She was left clutching air as stumbled into the wall, turning her eyes to the skys as she watched the agent disappear over the roof top. She followed, of course she would, but the little difference it made was pitiful. She was gone. The girl was just too fast for her There was no equality here and never would be. The girl was a cheetah reborn, agile and quick where Venice was more of the Rhino type re-incarnation. They were not match for each other and this time Sailor Ate came of ********, ******** ********! COME BACK! C-come back....please...come back..." It had taken her several seconds to register the blank canvas that was the night in front of her as she scanned the rooftops. She didnt know what was worse, to see how far she had gotten or to have no trace of her at all. But she knew one thing, the starseed was gone. She had lost her first starseed, wasn't that the reason she was here, to stop this from happening?? She had lost her first star - "UH - NO, MARY!"
The sailor scout was back down before she thought about jumping, she leapt, the garbage cans and cardboard boxes cushioning her fall but not enough to stop the shooting spasms of pain to run up her ankle. She didnt want to look down, if she did she might have seen a bone or three sticking out. She just needed to get to Mary. She could be saved, if she got her to a hospital she could be...she could be saved...
"Mary....am...am so sorry..." The girl folded down onto her knees, tights ripping as her hands came to touch the dead woman's face. She wanted to take her gloves off, to make sure she was really dead but to also hold her probably. This woman had no family or friends. Well she had drunken friends who would forget her face in the coming weeks but no one that would weep in sorrow for her. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair. "Mary...I am so sorry..." She pulled back her hands and stood, her gloves remaining on as she began to turn. Her ankle unbroken but twisted she felt the pain, knew it was there but didnt grimace as she tested her footing.
"Am sorry...am sorry, I didnt mean for you to be caught up in all this, p-please, please forgive me." Her voice was barely over a whispered, it was too painful to speak louder even though she wanted to. She wanted to shout and scream and wake this woman up but it wasn't going to happen. Not now...not because of her. She had to leave though, she had to leave Mary behind.
"Am s-so sorry..." It was too much, Sailor Ate had never seen a worthless death like this. To have the life just stolen from someone...it was sick. She turned heel and fled, ran from the body going cold and stiff on its own, she ran till she couldn't feel the pain in her leg any more, ran till she couldn't breath without panting. Ran till she forgot the face of the woman she knew, that she was friends with. Forgot everything she had witnessed, tried to forget how she had failed.
But she wouldn't forget one thing, no. She would remember it forever....Sugilite.
