User ImageRarity's preferred reflecting pool was a large, shallow lake in one of the least-muddy parts of the swamp. While she didn't consider it part of her territory- it was for whomever wanted to use it- she had spent a great deal of time improving the area: finding stones upon which to step so that one didn't get one's hooves muddy, pulling weeds around the water's edge to make one's reflection easier to see, encouraging the growth of flowers to beautify the area; little things that made life in the swamp more beautiful. It hadn't been her fault she'd been born in a swamp, but that made her calling to make it look nice all the more important. But sometimes other, more important things came before looking nice. Rarity had finished with those pressing duties and was taking a day off to have some quality time with herself.

Normally, when she gazed into the pond, she was rather pleased with her reflection. But today, she frowned at the sunken blue eyes that stared back at her. She was tired; more tired than she'd previously acknowledged. She'd been terribly busy, and her tangled coat was far less lustrous than she considered acceptable. A bath would work wonders for her coat, that was for sure. Daintily, she stepped into the pool until she was soaking up to her eyeballs. The surface rippled as she paddled about, watching birds flit overhead and enjoying the cool water on a warm day. She half-listened for the echo of other hoofbeats, but wasn't terribly concerned with others... though company, she suspected, would be rather nice.

Pink hooves, encircled with well-groomed purple fur that 'floof'ed dramatically as they stepped, clicked across the stones that crossed the little pond, coming to a stop in the middle of the body of water. Pale eyes looked down on the swimming doe, eyebrows raised curiously.

"Nice place you've got here," Persimmon said, with a haughty little flick of her purple hair and an air of superior indifference. "Did you clean it up yourself?

"Indeed I did," Rarity chirped, happy that somebody had noticed. She eyed the new doe carefully. She was a lovely creature with a simply gorgeous mane. Rarity did so adore those who were lucky enough to be blessed with a mane; there was ever so much you could do with one and so many lovely things that could be woven into it! "But it's not really my place," she said. "I mean, it's not held territory. I'd much rather see it left open for others to use, as well as myself. You're welcome to a swim, if you'd like. I find it an excellent place to get the dust and grime out of my fur."

Persimmon's nose scrunches up in a slight expression of distaste. "There's no grime in my fur...but thank you." Finding the largest and smoothest rock, the pink-and-purple doe sits herself daintily on it, her tail wrapping gently around her. She tilts her head at the other doe, thinking. She's clearly not as well-bred as me, Simper ponders to herself, But she seems to have quite an eye for aesthetics. Perhaps I can use this to my advantage.

Putting on her best attempt at a friendly smile, Simper turns her attention back to the doe. "My name is Persimmon. It's a pleasure to meet someone else who clearly cares about beauty." The statement is blatant flattery, but then again, that's what Simper is best at.

"Oh my dear!" Rarity almost cried, somewhat shocked. "I certainly wasn't implying that there was! Indeed; your grooming seems impeccable and that coiffure of yours is to die for." That dark purple was simply glorious, it truly was. Since the other didn't seem to want a swim, she paddled towards the edge of the pond and stepped out, allowing the water to roll off her fur. Shaking dry would only fluff it up and take forever to smooth back down. "I'm Rarity, and it's lovely to meet you. I certainly do care about beauty; it seems a rare thing these days to find a kindred soul. So many of our kin seem to ignore the squalor about them; why, with just a little effort, I'm certain that the entire swamp could look lovely. But the apathy!" She shook her head, envisioning the mud pits that so many of her acquaintances had once lived in. "If only this world cared half as much as you seem to."

Persimmon took the other doe's compliments easily, as if she was used to receiving them, and flipped a lock of her purple hair over her shoulder with pride, not even thinking to offer a 'thank you'. "If you are looking for more kin with..." she paused, a haughty inflection in her tone on the next word, "taste...you should meet the rest of my family. My brother Clematis would especially love to see your little grove here...he likes arranging things nicely...stones, flowers. Sometimes I let him do my hair." She smiled at Rarity. "He's quite good."
