Thunder was rumbling in the distance. It was already well past midnight and Valhalla knew he needed to get home before it started pouring. Helping out at the Surrounding only distracted him so much. His body ached from what little sleep he was getting, his heart ached with the lie that had broken it, and he was pretty sure that if he didn't step it up in his studying, he might start dropping in grades.

The only problem was... he'd tried patrolling in the woods because he thought he'd felt a youma's energy signal, but when he got there... nothing... And now he was pretty sure he was lost.

"Come on..." he mumbled to himself, holding his compass up and trying to see in the darkness which way the needle was pointing... not that he really knew how to use a compass. He hadn't been a Boyscout like his two brothers. Well... it couldn't be that difficult to figure out how to use it, right...? He knew the general direction of the city, so... he just had to go East.

And it wasn't like he was in complete darkness. He was on some kind of path. There was a lamp every twenty or so yards, and it was there that he paused to look at the compass again. If he wasn't so distracted by his own misery, he might have been able to look and see the lights of the city through the trees, or even listened for the sound of traffic...

Wolframite had seen his fair share of fractions, youma, unknown creatures from beyond the stars, and magical characters from unknown realms. Despite this, he was rather surprised by what was walking through the woods. Naturally he would think it was a senshi, but the signature was strange and the outfit didn't have that senshi feel. In fact, the boy looked more like a caveman working late at night at a museum and was just now getting off his shirt. The outfit reminded him of the Flinestone Era to be honest, and he wondered where the boy's dinosaur pet was, expecting to see some Labrador in a costume.

Standing in the trees, he watched the kid move, and hoped over to another branch, almost missing and gripping the tree desperately. General or not, his depth perception was still terrible with these things, and he remembered why he didn't visit the woods as often as before. Nice scenery, but he had to a lot of the traveling on foot nowadays. Roofs in the city didn't require this sort of pinpoint accuracy as tree branches did, not to mention balance. Heels did not help.

Deciding not to bother, he looked down at the boy - wait? Was he using a compass? REALLY?!

"A little lost?" Wolframite called down, a little too curious. If this was a senshi from some weird group, the information would be good to post back up at headquarters. Either way, he found out hard to take a boy using a compass when he was rather close to the city seriously. Couldn't he just jump up and see like other senshi could?

If anything proved that Valhalla was really distracted, it would be the fact that a negaverse general was able to get within speaking range without him even noticing. The compass was fumbled in his hands and he stared up into the darkness of the trees, trying to determine just where the voice had come from. He felt it then, an energy similar to a couple others he'd met briefly before, and he felt his heart drop into his stomach even as it pounded in his chest.

Well, that hadn't been intended... "Um, just a little," he answered warily, finally catching a glimpse of the light from the lamp reflecting off something metalic (a button maybe?) and his eyes went there, trying to work out the figure in the darkness. "You probably shouldn't be up in the trees," he said after a few moments as some more thunder rolled in the distance. "Lightning, I mean... you, uh... could get hurt..."

Maybe he should keep his mouth shut. Or maybe make a run for it...? Valhalla didn't think that those in the Negaverse were inherently bad, just as he thought everyone deserved a chance or two or three, but he was also told quite often how stupid it was to be so trusting of people.

"Are you...? Lost I mean," he asked, staring up at the glimmering spot in the trees, still holding onto his compass, but his hands were both raised as if to show that he was unarmed and had no desire to fight. Well, he was armed, but he knew for a fact that he couldn't do much damage with a compass, try as he might.

The dark figure dropped and twigs snapped as he landed with ease and rising up from the crouch, Wolframite stepped away from the shadows and towards the knight. Gravel ground under his heels as he moved, and the power signature continued to radiate. "I think you might be in a bit more danger than I am." Whatever signature he was feeling, it didn't seem that strong. Strange, but not overpowering. Still, he was wary, and that made his guard and paranoia go up in an instant. Who knew what this character could have up his sleeve.

"I'm not lost. I can see perfectly fine and if you just jumped up, you could find out you are close enough to the trail exit." Idiot.

"You look a little too caveman to be a senshi or is that your special costume design?" He said, moving to slowly circle around the boy to take out his full getup.

Valhalla swallowed thickly as the dark figure dropped to the ground and moved into the light, and although he took him a few moments... he was pretty sure he recognized him from a couple past, ill-fated circumstances that had resulted in various people fighting on different sides. But... the power signature was different than before. If anything... it was stronger.

It didn't give off any warm and fuzzy feelings, either...

"Oh, right... jumping up..." Yeah, he could have done that, and he was pretty sure this guy thought he was the biggest moron for not realizing that. "I just... didn't want to be a lightening rod," he mumbled, wondering if he should probably just keep his mouth shut and not push his luck with this guy. Especially not when he started circling like a raptor inspecting its next meal from above. Well, maybe that wasn't the best analogy since this guy was a bit shorter than Valhalla was, but... either way... predator and prey.

"You're Wolframite, aren't you...?" he asked, wary as he did so and keeping his bare hands raised, although one still clasped around the compass. "Ah, we've never met... I've just heard about you... The eyepatch and colors..." he quickly explained, not wanting him to think he was a threat or should be killed quickly. If anything, he'd seen the other young man from afar while others told him to be careful around him. He was pretty sure words like 'crazy' and 'unstable' had come up... but upon learning more about the circumstances surrounding the Negaverse officer (at least from his friend's side), he didn't think it was all that surprising that he was such a threat.

"I'm not a senshi," he was also quick to correct, knowing that the General didn't exactly have a good running record with the senshi... "I'm Valhalla... I'm a knight." He wanted to at least share his name. Maybe then the other wouldn't feel cornered or... who knew what... because Valhalla knew his name.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 27, 2011 10:03 pm

He paused in step when his name was given. It wasn't that he liked other's knowing it. In fact, he made it a mission at a point for others to know his name, and he finally looked up at the boy's face when his name was remembered. That was good. The other side needed to know who he was, but he wasn't exactly thrilled that his defining characteristic was his eye-patch. Then again, he was being oversensitive about it, but it rubbed him the wrong way for the thing that defined his profile by the senshi to be the same party that had caused it to be that way.

He stood up straight, at attention as any soldier knew, and regarded the other more directly and less in a playful cat and mouse game. It was all tricks to intimidate in the end. Things you picked up or tried along the way. "General Wolframite." He corrected. "....and the eyepatch is thanks to that senshi scum you're talking that, knight. You did talk to senshi to find out, didn't you?" He didn't think any officers of the Negaverse would be talking about their own members after all.

"What did you hear when you were talking with them?" He regarded the raise hands but didn't buy it. Senshi appeared unarmed and yet could throw magic. Who knew what knights could do. He met Avalon and her sad apple, but that didn't mean the others were different.

"General," he quickly corrected himself, his golden eyes wide with both curiosity and something he was pretty sure was terror. "Sorry... General... I'm not used to using titles of rank for senshi or knights. I've only met a few... uh... officers? Is that the right term? No disrespect, of course. Just ignorant, I think. There isn't a guide book on how to do this..." he rambled, as if talking would somehow keep himself from getting killed. He soon shut his mouth though, and silently cursed himself for reverting to old high school habits that he had hoped he'd outgrown when he was feeling out of place.

"Page, actually..." he said with a wince, hoping he wouldn't irritate the already angry looking young man. "Um... we're called knights, but... I think it's also a rank..." he sheepishly tried to explain, and jumped when another rumble of thunder shook the trees. At least it wasn't raining... yet... "But really... Just Valhalla is fine. Or Val..." He clamped his mouth shut before he could explain how there were less syllables and people tended to just snip off the end of his name for sake of ease and familiarity. Somehow he didn't think this guy wanted to become familiar with him.

He frowned and glanced down to the ground, his eyebrows knit close together in frustration and concern when Wolframite spoke of his eyepatch, remembering the things Lily and Zia had started to explain to him, but never quite got into details in regards to Wolframite.

"I'm sorry..." Valhalla apologized, his head lowered in shame as he glared at the ground, but his voice was sincere. He didn't know who had taken Wolframite's eye, but it angered him to know that such horrible fighting was going on. Sure, he'd witnessed fights before, but no one lost eyes or died...

But before he could get too deep into thought on the subject, he was brought back by Wolframite's question. "I heard you were dangerous," he said easily, glad his voice wasn't shaking, unlike his hands. He would put them down, but he figured looking as unarmed as possible would help...? Maybe not... "I heard... that you were hurt... by senshi..." That was probably the understatement of the year. Being 'hurt' and 'tortured' weren't really on the same side of the spectrum, were they...?

"If I'd known something like that was happening... If I'd been Valhalla at that time... I would have tried to stop it..." he said, not really caring if Wolframite believed him, but he needed to say it, regardless. "I don't want to fight. I want to protect civilians from getting caught up in all this... mess... that's all."
PostPosted: Wed Sep 28, 2011 7:54 am

The thunder did not bother Wolframite at all. In fact, he didn't even seem to care that a storm was moving it's way quickly in, the trees shaking as a gust blew through the path. Instead, Wolframite stayed, stationary, and continued to listen. The only bother he seemed to have with the thunder was that it was making it harder to hear. Valhalla however seemed jump, and Wolframite noted the nerves. Page seemed to amount to Lieutenant in the knight spectrum. He guessed that the compass might be his version of Avalon's apple. He'd have to report this of course so he was taking note.

At the word 'dangerous', he smiled, taking great pride in the warning. Before, no one regarded him as any threat. Maybe his little recording had hit it's mark. It certainly made it worth the risk of breaking into the zoo. The boy continued on in his rambling, vague way, and Wolframite wondered how jumpy he would be if he summoned his weapon. Probably stuttering and right now he was in the mood for a chat. What irritated him was that the knight said he wold have helped. "I doubt you would have helped or could have. Someone as jumpy as you over thunder wouldn't be able to hold his own to the likes of which the senshi keep. Those monsters would have tore you apart as they had done several officers I've seen." He stepped closer. "They don't just hurt. Fighting hurts, Page." Yes, it was clear he wasn't going for the nickname, let's be BFFs , Val. "Noo. They tortured. Something stripped of the honor and respect that head to head battle. They sliced up girls alive. They burned us alive. They let rats eat our flesh and tore limbs and burned my friends whle they were strapped by chains in a chair." His hands were balled into fists by his side, and his only working eye gleamed with bloodlust. "They starved. They tore. They beat and ripped and watched us bleed puddles at their feet.So in a way, Page,....you could say it 'hurt'."

He stepped aside, walking past the Page only because he felt moving would keep him from popping the boy's head off. "If you want to protect the people of Earth, leave it to the actual soldiers of this planet and stay out of our way. I always suggest to stop talking to senshi. They seem to be lacking in giving you all the details."

Valhalla frowned, as he was talked down to. Wolframite knew nothing about him, nothing about who he was or what he'd really do. He cringed as the young man told him about the details, feeling ashamed to be on the side of people that had such little mercy for life. No, it was a war... both sides were guilty. Both sides knew and showed hate. But that didn't change the fact that he would have wanted to change it if it had been possible.

"I was wrong," he said, wishing he hadn't tried to censor his statement before since it seemed to have insulted him. "They were wrong for doing it," he added, not sure why he now wanted to try and convince Wolframite that he wasn't one of those who would torture and kill for fun. "But we're not all the same. There are countless others who disagree with the methods of torture and fighting, but just because some extremests took matters into their own hands, we're suddenly all the same to you, aren't we?" He didn't know why he was talking, but he went on, either way.

"Earth is my planet, too," he called after the General, watching as he moved past. Valhalla lowered his hands, sliding the compass under his belt. It wasn't that he didn't think Wolframite was a threat to his livelihood... it was that he didn't think there would be much time to defend himself if there was a fight. He would have more luck getting his butt out of there than taking on a General. "And not just born here now. All knights were born on Earth in the past, too." It was a feeling in his gut telling him. He might be a knight of Jupiter, but he'd pledged his allegiance after he'd come of age in the past.

"I've seen officers of the Negaverse prey on civilians. That's not protecting them! I've seen a whole camp turned into a energy harvesting plant. Children, General. Is that 'protecting the people of Earth'? By using them as lab rats for whatever the Negaverse needs energy for?" His temper was getting the best of him and he knew it. "Do you have siblings? Well, I do. And knowing that they can't even go to a camp without being threatened... That's why I'm out here. To protect those I can... And you'd be jumping too, if you were in my shoes!"

As if on queue, a drizzle was starting, the first signs of the approaching storm. Wolframite opened his hands and let the little flecks of rain dot his palms. He was musing a moment, thinking, before turning to the boy. "You're not a senshi. I'm speaking about them. The only thing I know of knights is that a traitor is among your ranks. A officer I once saluted." One that he respect, cared for, and felt was on his side. The news hadn't been well recieved for the officer who, at one point, had been in Enterprise under Linarite.

"I'm only saying that if you hold those in your group that have tortured and yet do not punish them or provide any sort of justice, then it comes as support of their actions. You agree to them, and I haven't heard of the BMC winding up dead or defaced. If you have heard any pleasant news about it. I have several officers who would like to know. If not, then the senshi who keep the likes of the BMC must also account for their actions by protecting them." He dropped his hands as the rain thicker. The thunder roared, and in no time Wolframite was getting soaked through. He could feel the warm rain soak through his uniform.

"We all have loved ones. Ever Negaverse officer has someone. Family. Friends. Lovers. But in the end, when it comes to it, we know that if it was up to sacrificing those we love to save all of humanity, then it is not our place to be selfish. Those sacrifices must be made. If I have to kill to protect my planet, to sacrifice one person or a dozen for billions, then the math is obvious." Then he felt he needed to set a line. "I'd kill, but I'd at least give them the damn dignity to not be tortured slowly." There was no honor in that.

Valhalla couldn't take his eyes off the General in front of him, even as the rain started to fall. He didn't know if he would get upset and turn to attack, or if he was going to stay docile. It was difficult for him to gauge what he said when he knew so little about the Negaverse, what they worked towards, what they wanted, why they were fighting... He was curious, but he didn't think he would be getting the answers. That would be too easy, and he had to worry about pushing enough to continue learning about this young man, while also keeping back enough to be able to protect himself from being killed.

His eyes widened in surprise at the mention of a traitor, not knowing who it was, but curious all the same. Someone from the Negaverse had defected? But why?

"I'm not my 'group', General," he countered, keeping his voice raised enough to speak over the rain, but not quite high enough to be yelling. He didn't want to put Wolframite on the offensive for any reason. "My group wants peace. My group wants to find a way to end this. Because you're right, we all have loved ones. You're still human, aren't you?" It was a rhetorical question, of course, but it made Valhalla wonder... what would happen if he found out that... his brother was an officer of the Negaverse...? Not that he thought he was, but... it was possible, right? They were all just normal people, still.

"The BMC...?" he suddenly backtracked, staring at Wolframite. "There is no BMC. Not any more. Not for nearly a month," he added, but he knew what Wolframite meant. People who had participated in things like torture, or even just knew about it and didn't do anything to stop it. "I'm not protecting what they did, General," he made himself continue, rather than reflecting on the new Dark Mirror Court, "But I'm also not the one responsible for judgement... and we are working towards preventing anything like that happening again." He wanted Wolframite to believe him. He was doing whatever he could to let the sincerity show through his words, but if the General didn't want to believe, then there was nothing Valhalla could do.

"You might be willing to kill to save humanity," he said, sounding almost remorseful, not knowing how killing could result in 'saving'. "You might be able to make sacrifices of those you love, but if it were me, choosing between living without someone I loved and saving the world, as extreme as that is... I'd rather find a way to make myself the sacrifice." It wasn't a new thought for him, kind of like 'would you jump in front of a bullet for someone?' kind of questions. The more he thought about it, the more he would rather die than to choose to end someone else's life, and he couldn't find it in him to be ashamed.

Maybe he was the crazy one and not Wolframite...
PostPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2011 3:46 pm

You're still human, aren't you?

"Sometimes I wonder..." He said, letting the water drip from the tips of his fingers and watching it fall. His black hair was started to stick to his face and made his cheeks pink from the temperature drop. It seemed summer was coming closer to an end these days. He would miss it. He rarely had a chance to enjoy it, and winter made him depressed.

He moved over to a tree only to get a break from the rain and knew that, if they just moved, they could find an overhang to stand under. He'd wait to see if the knight wanted to leave or not. It was no skin off of either of their backs.

"I would sacrifice myself for the greater good." His tone assured this, and while he feared death, knew he feared death since being in that hellhole for 2 weeks, he also knew there were things worse than death and things greater than wanting to stay alive. His life, like those he took, were all for the purpose of seeing Earth continue, to thrive, and not to be enslaved. "I have already given plenty to the cause, but I would give much more if it was demanded of me. However, I am currently doing more good by being alive than by giving up my life, and as such, that demand had not been given to be as of yet." For now, he was still useful. When he failed to be that, then he would just be more energy for the cause. That was his responsibility for failing in helping the Negaverse and he accepted it.

"If you do not support what they did, then are you a separate fraction without any allegiance to their Queen?" He wondered what the knights fought for if this one didn't seem interested in what the senshi had done. He could just be fishing for answers and had talked to the senshi before to find what platform they stood on.

As for the BMC news, well, it was surprising. He wondered if they were all separate now and that made him hopeful. A broken group was less powerful and easier to pick off. "...and what of the BMC? How did they disband? Since I was around them, they seemed tight knit. Not the sort to just call the quits all of a sudden." Not with the methods they used.

The rain made him shiver. He didn't like how his clothes was sticking to his skin or how his hair was suddenly in his eyes. He lifted a hand to brush back his bangs, glad that the water would at least hold them in place for the most part. He should really get a haircut... maybe.

When he saw Wolframite move towards the tree, he hesitated for a few moments before following after him, ducking under a tree for himself. Of course... trees weren't the best place to rest under during a thunder storm, but something was telling him that Wolframite wouldn't really care.

"What?" he nearly sputtered, making a face that was half disgust, half concern. "You can't just give up your life if it's demanded! That's not the point at all! You said so, yourself. You have a reason for living, right? You can't let someone else decide to end it for you." Part of him was telling him to shut up and stop trying to encourage a General of the Negaverse to look for a deeper meaning in his life, and therefore his death. But the other part, the stronger part, didn't want to be witness to anyone dying, regardless of what side they were on.

"I've heard of some kind of Moon Queen or Princess," he confirmed, forcing himself to change the subject since he didn't want to have Wolframite suddenly decide to kill him. "I've never seen her, nor heard of others who have seen her, so... no, I don't have an allegiance to some mystery woman whose ideals I don't know and may not agree with." Why would he blindly follow something that a whole faction of people disagreed with and hated?

"My team is based primarily on our connection to Jupiter," he tried to explain. "And from what I know, we all want to protect this planet and those who live on it. The Jovians do, I mean. I can't speak for everyone, but I know for a fact that at least one of us is very outspoken against the BMC and what they did. I'm against it as well, and those responsible will be held responsible." Kallichore had her connection to the BMC, but she'd also left and showed remore and pledged herself to the Jovians. And Zirconia had refused to follow Ares into the darkness after...

"Their leader, Eternal Sailor Ares, was consumed by Chaos and came back as a Princess with the desire to convert everyone she gets her hands on to become part of her new court," he hurried on, trying to speak over the rain and thunder. "They were torn apart from the inside, General. Given the choice of joining Ares or dying. Those who could, fled... I don't know what happened after that, though." He only knew what Kallichore and Europa had told them, after all.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 17, 2011 7:44 pm

Chaos? Wolframite looked over at the Knight, not sure of what he was hearing. There was no way that Ares was turning, but maybe she was separating, but what were all the details of such a story? Take the word 'Chaos' away and it just sounded like something the leader of the BMC would do. Kill or force those to join her, and considering that maybe having such a ruthless fraction of the senshi break apart, it would be considered a good thing if they were less guarded by the ones that they had used as a shield by hiding in there numbers. Was there a way to rally senshi to turn on each other? He hoped so, and of that, he tucked that information for later. He certainly would have to make some report on knights and this conversation later.

As it was, it didn't seem the Knight knew any more on the matter than what he was offering, and Wolframite wondered if he could win his favor by appealing to his better nature. He looked about and noticed the boy beside him looking uncomfortable. "Come. Since you seem concerned about the weather. There is a overhang over at the end of the trail." It was actually where the park ended and opened to the street where a few family shops were clustered close by. He also knew there was a soda machine and a bench there as well, and moved through the rain down the trail.

While he walked, he continued their conversation, lessing his tone from before to something more conversational and casual. "I will not die easily, but if it came to my life being given for those of my team, to those of my planet, for a purpose greater than what I could accomplish in my lifetime and demanded of me in that moment in an emergency without options, I would give it. In the meantime, I live my life to use it completely for our purpose and to accomplish our goals of peace on this planet. For now, it's simple set on keeping the war from ending in the senshis' victory." That was until they found a way to win. "We risk our lives every day by wearing a uniform. In a way, it's already demanded of us to risk out lives and seeing as we could die any day now, I don't think anyone like you should be shocked to hear that I would die for my cause. It's very possible. I've seen it countless times." They had left the cover of the trees to the sidewalk, one-way street, and quaint stores around them. Wolframite turned and headed over to a overhand where a single light shown over a bench and a few vending machined hummed over the drizzling rain.

"Don't you risk your life, being dressed like that?" He checked out the vending machine, wiping the wet bangs from his face. "At the very least, a police officer could shoot you by mistaking you for a terrorist."

Valhalla stared at Wolframite for a few moments when he suggested getting out of the rain, before taking the first step required in following him, caution apparently thrown to the wind. But it wasn't as though the temporary trust was unwarranted! The Nevagerse General didn't seem interested in hurting him, or killing him, and in turn Wolframite had taken a chance with him. For all he knew, Valhalla could have tried to attack him the moment he turned his back.

He wouldn't, but that wasn't the point.

The page let out a sigh of relief when he was led to the end of the trail, glad that he didn't have to navigate through all the rain. "Thank you," he said, doing his best to remain at least a... relatively safe distance away from the other young man, but he also didn't want to make him think he wasn't interested in talking to him.

"What is your purpose and goals...?" Valhalla asked as he tried ignoring how uncomfortable he was feeling, but he was pretty sure it was because of how wet he was, rather than the current company. He would probably be yelled at later if he told those he cared about that he'd had a conversation with a Negaverse General and not staying on his guard the entire time... Then again, just for that, who knew if Wolframite would turn to attack him...

For now, though, Valhalla simply followed him to the vending machines and watched as Wolframite inspected one.

"I'd offer to lend you some change, but..." he trailed off, a tiny sympathetic smile on his face. He wished he could power down and pull out his wallet to offer to get Wolframite something, but even he wasn't stupid enough to do something like that. Not when it might put his family and friends in danger.

Valhalla shook his head lightly as he ducked under a tiny awning beside the vending machine. "I think it would be pretty unprofessional for a police officer to shoot someone unarmed," he said, leaning up against the wall and out of the rain for a bit. "I think I risk my life more by protecting civilians from youma than I do just walking around, dressed like some kind of wannabe-viking... caveman... what have you," he rambly added, although he knew he probably should be more careful about the possibility of insulting the young man.

"I wouldn't be shocked, no," Valhalla quickly tried to change the subject. "If you died for your cause, I mean... But I think that... if you want peace on this planet, as you say you do... I think you'd be worth more, alive." He shrugged lightly, knowing where the General was coming from, at least. Valhalla would die for the good of the planet if he had to, but that didn't mean he didn't value life above all else.

"I don't know I just-- Wow," he paused, staring at Wolframite in the glow of the vending machine. "Sorry... you just look... really young," he explained, shifting uncomfortably and looking away from him. He tensed after a moment, though, and quickly held up his hands in defense, hopefully before the other young man could get angry or react or something like that. "I'm just saying... you must have been even younger when you started this whole, uh, thing... since you're a General and all that. Not to insult you or anything."

Oh jeez, he should just keep his mouth shut and run while he had the chance.
