Too much...it was all just too much for her to bear.
Astra was scared. Absolutely and positively petrified.
She had no idea what was going to happen, nor did she have a clue on what she should do about it. Every day brought her closer with the unknown, and a decision that she just..didn't want to even think about it. It was absurd; no one had told her about this before. It was something that wasn't supposed to happen, and yet here she was, with barely a week to figure out things before...well...
Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, the fairy ghoul left the safety of her dorm room and ventured outside the dormitory, taking with her a large jacket to cover up her wings. She needed to get out for a while and think about things. To try and make sense of what was happening.
...But as she walked towards the demon dormitory, she realized that instead of thinking..she just wanted to talk to someone. Anyone. Just sit there and pretend everything was alright and they were all safe and didn't have to worry about impending doom or evil reapers or anything like that. And entering the building, she wondered if Riley was around.

Riley was around, though it wasn't obvious considering her door was closed and no sound was coming from the room. Even the slit underneath the door was dim, devoid of light - but that was normal for her room, after all.
Riley herself was in her living room, in the pitch dark, reading a magazine. She was engrossed in it, with the pages brought up so close to her eyes that they were inadvertently lit up by the illumination of the orbs. The light was useless to her, though. She read without it, scanning the pages greedily.
She had no idea that she would be having a visitor that day.

Standing in front of the door that she assumed was Rileys room, Astra went to knock on her door, but hesitated. It didn't look like the mindflyer was in since there was no light coming from underneath the door. And if she was...what would she say to her? What if she was busy
Riley had always been nice to her, but in some ways, she was even more intimidating then jericho was. Not because she was scary (although sometimes she was absolutely terrifying when she was angry...) But because she was just so...High. HIGH ABOVE ME Like she was ontop of a great big pillar with everyone below her worshiping her.
...Okay maybe that was a bit of a stretch.
Annoyed at her own nervousness, she stepped up to the door and knocked on it politely.

The magazine went flying into the air as the knock on the door startled her out of her deep, engrossed reading. She hadn't meant to be so into it, but it was so strange. The things they tried to give advice about in these magazines were ludicrous. So ludicrous that she had been sucked in from the first page. And now, caught in the act, her heart was racing a mile a minute as she caught the magazine before it fell on her face, and shoved it quickly under the couch.
Unable to speak with whoever was outside the door without knowing who it was, she couldn't call out until she had gotten up and opened the door herself. Simultaneously, one of her tentacles reached out and flicked the light on as she opened it.
Ah. Astra? She blinked in surprise, flushed from guilt. I mean. Astra! How lovely to see you. Please, come in. She held the door open for the ghoul, and took deep breaths to try and relax.

"Riley!" Astra beamed, her previous nervousness ebbing away at seeing the mindflyer after so long. "It's lovely to see you too" Most of the time she was either too busy, or she was hanging out with everyone else, but it appeared that she was by herself, so she would be able to talk to her without anyone else around!
However, she only took a few steps into the room before she came to a halt, eyes wide with amazement at what she was seeing. The fairy had not been in Riley's room before and wasn't prepared for the extravagance she was seeing.
"Wooowww!" She breathed, her gaze going to the two archways that no doubt lead to other areas. "This place is so huge! And you got so much cool stuff here!" Part of her wanted to run off and to explore as much of the rooms as she could, but she didn't want to annoy Riley by acting like a child.

Riley reached out automatically and brushed the hair on the top of Astra's head affectionately. And it is a wonderful surprise. She carefully closed the door behind Astra, before leading her in. Please, make sure yourself at home. To what do I owe this pleasant honor?

It was now Astra's turn to blush not used to being petted, but not too worried since it was Riley who was doing it. Plus, she seemed rather happy to see the fairy which made her feel quite happy herself.
When asked why she had come over, She her smile faulted and she became rather interested in the books on the shelves again. "Well..I just...umm..." There were so many things she wanted to ask her, but where should she start? Should she even both to ask her?
I want to ask you about the field trip. Will we be okay? You wont die will you? What should I chose? Ideas buzzed around in her head, and the longer she sat there the more nervous she felt. Finaly she decided on something to ask
"Uhh, Whats it like being a demon?"
...Well, she could of said worse.

Hard.
Riley's answer was enigmatic at best. She moved to take her seat back on the couch, lifting her legs up and curling them underneath her. Then she reached out and petted the seat cushion next to her.
An odd question, you would know what it's - ah, wait.. It was so easy to forget what Astra really was. All of Riley's experience with the Fa'e had been on a completely demonic level. That's right. You're a reaper, aren't you? I tend to forget that around you sometimes..
She had never thought twice about it before, but Astra was a bit of a first in her duality. Riley gave her friend a long look over. Hmm. What is it like being a demon, she asks? I think the most generic thing about our kind is that we're very determined. And many of us have a higher level of confidence - it helps. Of course, as with any species, there are exceptions. Her eyes crinkled at the sides as Xiu immediately came to mind. But that is to be expected.
And of course, the inevitable question came. Why?

Well..that was a interesting way to put it, but Astra didn't say anything. Just yet
"y-yes...." Astra replied, feeling uncomfortable with her answer since she wasn't telling the truth this time, and then felt even worse as only a few days ago she would have been certain she was telling the truth.
She bused herself with moving onto the seat cushion (It was soft! yay!) and listened to her explain. It was weird though, she didn't realize that demons could be so determined. She thought it was something that some people were, not a species trait.
However, she was not prepared to be asked why she had asked the question. "Ah!" She said at first while she struggled to come up with a reason, "Well I was umm..curious! Yah, because You're a demon and I don't know many other demons beside syou so I wanted to know what it was like"

Nervous. Anxious. Astra was hiding something. Riley moved closer, settling herself in the middle of the couch and bending her head down to look into Astra's eyes.
You know I can tell when you're lying. She whispered, her eyes trying to remain gentle. Tell me what's going on? Maybe I can help.

Maybe I can help
Astra should have realized that she hadn't had a snowballs chance in hell of lying to the mindflyer. Nor would she be able to hold back any longer. Looking in Riley's gaze, she could feel tears brimming up in her own eyes.
"....Riley...." Quickly she whipped away the unshed tears, not wanting to start crying in front of the ghoul and turn into a sobbing mess. At least she could do that...
Hopping off the couch for a moment, she hesitated at first but then took off the heavy coat that she wore and revealed her wings, which were hanging uselessly on her back. There was no trace of the purple and blue hue on them, only a dull brown.
"I've...got a problem..."

This was.. an unexpected turn of events.
Riley reached out, put her hand on both of Astra's shoulders, and slowly turned the ghoul around. The sight she was presented with was... gruesome.
And not in the good way.
What happened? She breathed out carefully, turning the ghoul around again and pulling her back onto the couch, close against her side. Come here, does it hurt? Do you need Malodore? What.. what happened?
Her voice had hesitated on that last repeated one, worried that Jericho had finally given in and burned the poor things wings off. Eeesh.

Tensing when she believed Riley was about to touch her wings, Astra soon relaxed when she realized she only wanted a better look at then. Although as to why she had flinched she wasn't sure. She could hardly feel them anymore, so having them touched wouldn't hurt her at all. Nor would having them pulled...
"It's....complicated..." She let herself be pulled back onto the couch, feeling a little better now that she was finally telling someone about this. "It doesn't hurt, which isn't really a good thing since It means I can't feel them anymore, and...n-no, I don't think Malodore could help me..."
"As for what happened...well.. I'm turning into a true reaper...so to speak. Because I wasn't one beforehand. And cause of that, my wings are going to fall off and I...wont be a fairy anymore..."
She sat a little closer to Riley now, wanting a sense of reassurance from the mindflayer. "I was lead to assume that I was a reaper, because I had been given a oak staff when I was a little scareling. But what really happened was that I was born a demon, and they gave me a staff because I have a lot of potential with magic. But the staff is interfering with my FEAR, and it's slowly taking away the demon aspect of me."

Riley's color drained, her skin turning an ashy greyish purple. Astra was.. losing herself. Her species. Worse off, she was trading in a demon species, for her reaperhood.
It made Riley's stomach churn.
That's.. what.. how..
Riley fell speechless. Her hand lifted to rest on her face, covering it in horror. She never showed it outwardly, but clearly the idea of losing an aspect of oneself that was demon-like disturbed her.
Is there anything you can do? .. Is there anything I can do? She whispered urgently.

Watching Rileys reaction and the color drain from her face made Astra feel guilty in telling her what was happening to herself. She hadn't expected the mindflyer to feel so strongly about it, and yet....the fact that she was, was a sense of comfort to the fairy. She wasn't the only one who found this hole thing insane, and not only that, but riley wanted to help her. That fact alone was more comforting then anything else.
The problem was..that Riley couldn't help her. She couldn't stop this from happening, nor was there anything she or herself could do to stop it.
Except...
"Well...There is one thing that can be done.." Astra said quietly, her gaze falling to her lap. "Since it's the staff that is causing all this to happen..if it was removed, then the process would stop. My wings would return to normal, and I would regain all my demony...stuff I guess" She wasn't to sure how that would work, since she hadn't been much of a demon before.
"But if I have the staff removed, then I wont be able to use it anymore...it'll be just a normal item, nothing more..." She shivered at the thought. It may be the cause of all of this, but it was still a very important to her. She had considered the staff a part of her for so long, that to have it taken away...she would be losing part of herself.
"Either way...I'll have to choose. And no matter what I choose...I'll need to give up something."
