Empty... it was the best way he could explain how he felt. His heart was shattered and gone and there was nothing he could do to fix the damage that had been done. He no longer had a girlfriend and it was his own stupidity that had lead to it. Paris should have told him, but he should have realized that something was wrong. He should have known. Was he really that oblivious?

Chris laid on his back on the couch in his apartment. It was creeping into the evening, but he didn't want to go to the Surrounding that night. The civilians that were stuck there should have enough people to help them out. They would be fine without him that night. Heck, they probably wouldn't even realize he was gone.

He couldn't cry, either. He felt like he should. Release some of the emotions that must have built up over the months, but... there was no emotion left in him to feel. Nothing besides anger and bitterness, and it wasn't even towards Paris. He'd dug his own grave by being so oblivious, and he couldn't help but wonder if that's what had happened when he'd been with Skye, too. Had he missed the signs of her wanting him to give her more attention? Could it have been prevented — her cheating on him...?

The phone in his hand was opened to its address book, Skye's name changed back from when he'd hidden it from Zia's insistance on him deleting it. A cousin's name had been the cover, but now she was in his phone again and his thumb pressed the call button before he was able to second guess himself.

There was no one else he could think of to talk to... Zia was busy being a Guardian Cat, and Daniel had his own girlfriend (hopefully, by this point) and was a knight, himself. They didn't need to be bothered by him at this time. Not when they had so much else to worry about.

Those thoughts had him almost hanging up, realizing he could very well be bothering Skye.

He heard her answer, and he hesitated. He knew she must know it was him, what with caller ID and all that. Chris swallowed nervously and held the phone to his ear. "Hey..." he said, hoping his voice didn't sound as dead to her as he thought it did. "Uh... how are you...?" Lame, and he knew it...

Skye knew about the surrounding but unlike Chris had never been there or really known where abouts it was other then like in space. She was about to get ready to go suck the energy from some poor guys when her phone rang unexpectedly. She picked it up slightly surprised to see Chris's number appear on it. Shrugging she answered it.

"Hello?" There was silence for a while and then Chris spoke. He didn't sound like himself, in fact she recognised that dead sounding voice from before.

"I am fine, Chris are you okay? You don't sound too good." She walked over to her sofa and sat down listening to hear anything on the phone that might tell her whether or not he was okay. She honestly had to wonder if something had happened with him and his girlfriend after all he had that dead betrayed voice going on and she knew that one all too well. Surely he didn't have this girlfriend cheat on him as well? Part of her was now hoping though... if Chris was single...

"Do you wanna come over? We can eat ice cream and watch a crappy film if you want?" Might as well offer right? After all having fun when you feel pretty bad is always a good idea.

He hesitated, not sure how he wanted to answer her. Chris was hoping he didn't sound horrible, and tried forcing a smile in order to put some emotion into his voice. "I'm okay," he said, but it sounded weak and under stress. He coughed to clear his throat and hopefully excuse his voice. He was the one who'd called her, after all.

And then came the invitation and he paused again, and would have been surprised if he cared enough. Did she already know...? But how...? Ah, well... she would know what he was like after breaking up with someone he cared about, wouldn't she...?

"Sure," he said after a few moments, thinking it was a good way to get his mind off things. He had told her that they would hang out after their last meeting, so... maybe this was just a good opportunity to catch up with how she was doing. "Um... yeah, sure..."

Pushing himself up from the couch, Chris slowly lowered his feet to the ground. Anna was laying on the floor near the couch and perked up when she realized Chris was moving, but she soon settled back down, knowing that he wouldn't be wanting to play.

"I'm, uh... guessing you don't live with your parents still, do you...?" he tried to joke, but he was pretty sure it fell flat.

She could hear he wasn't okay even as he said it and she rolled her eyes as he coughed trying to cover it up. He did however eventually agree which made her smile and then she laughed.

"You know I don't. I was in Crystal when we were together!" She hadn't lived with her parents since they sent her to crystal but she couldn't expect him to remember everything.

"I have my own apartment it's easy to find." After all it was big and expensive as with everything in Skye's life. She told Chris the address though and said that she would leave the door on the latch so he could get in downstairs. She did of course have to have a top floor apartment but then that was Skye all over. Always had to be above everyone else.

"I will see you in a bit then? I shall dig out some nice ice cream and find a cheesy film." She was already in the kitchen looking to see what ice cream she had and she had loads of films she was sure Chris would like. As soon as they were off the phone though she went to get ready. She wasn't going to let Chris see her like this but then as she got into the bathroom she decided actually she might. She had a shower quickly and then put on some joggers and a loose top, nothing that Skye would normally wear but then she was just going to be regular old Skye tonight. If she was right and Chris was now single then she wanted him to see her as her and not the girl she was to everyone else. She also did a quick sweep of the house to check none of Jack's stuff was laying about. That would be awkward.

"Oh, right," he mumbled sheepishly when he remembered that she wasn't with her parents. Of course... It probably just went to show how scatter brained he was at the moment. Usually he had a good memory for things like that.

He entered her address into his phone when she gave it to him and hung up shortly after. Chris didn't know what he was doing... Why was he going over to Skye's apartment, again...? Was she really the only one he could think of to call at a time like this...?

Chris got on his shoes, picked up his keys, and left his own relatively lavish, top floor apartment in order to head to his ex-girlfriend's place. It was almost funny how similar they were with a lot of things in their life, but in the end... maybe they were too similar...? Or maybe they just hadn't had time to mature enough while in high school. They were both older now, and he knew they'd both changed. He was still a baseball boy with good grades in school, but he'd also started seeing the darker side of the city, the darker side of life in general.

It didn't take him too long to get to her apartment. They were on the same side of the city, at least. In fact, he realized how close they were when he plugged her address into his phone's GPS and decided to walk instead of drive. Only when he got to her apartment door did he hesitate. She'd broken his heart years ago, but right now he felt like nothing could make things worse, and he finally lifted a hand to knock on her door.

Skye was ready for him at just the right time it seemed. He had agreed to come and that made her so stupidly happy though she wouldn't admit it. She had cleaned up the place. She hadn't found anything of Jack's laying about which helped and so she happily waited for the door to go and then it did.

She walked to the door, scruffed her hair up a bit and opened the door. She smiled at Chris and invited him in.

"Sorry I'm not in anything better looking, I guess you caught me unaware! Anyway come in, you want chocolate or ice cream? The films are by the tv in there if you want to pick one?" She smiled and headed towards the kitchen allowing him to enter at his own pace. The place was pretty open planned so you could see the kitchen from the lounge and all that.

She had left a pile of DVD's by the tv, she had quite the collection really even though she rarely had time to watch anything anymore. Such was life really but as long as they didn't suddenly call an emergency meeting in the Rift maybe she could at last have a normal relaxed evening? She had to hope it was possible.

Bringing in both chocolate and ice cream she sat down putting both on the table between the sofa and the tv.

"Anything take your fancy?"

Golden eyes swept over Skye the moment the door was opened for him, a little surprised to see her looking so casual. He was used to her being all dolled up and ready to go out and conquer the world, or whatever else she'd had planned for the day.

"No," he quickly answered, shaking his head at her as she apologized. "No, you look fine... I think you look fine," he mumbled lamely, not really sure what his mind was doing at the moment, but she had successfully distracted him for at least a few moments. He watched as she turned to lead the way to the kitchen, wondering what she'd say if he commented on how the pants she was wearing made her backside look nice, but decided to stop staring at her and actually be a decent guest.

He forced a smile at her offer, feeling as though it was a rather weak attempt, shrugging just as lamely as his mumbling had been. "Surprise me...? Ah... either is fine... I don't want to bother you too long..." he admitted, feeling rather guilty for taking advantage of her hospitality when things had gone so poorly before... But they had years between now and then.

Chris watched as she got the ice cream and chocolate before he realized that she was asking for an opinion on movies. "Oh, uh... I'm not... really good with picking out things like this..." Or rather, his head wasn't in the right place to pick a movie. He picked up the one on the top of the pile, holding it up for her to see. "This okay?"

Bother her? As if he was bothering her!

"Don't be silly make yourself at home!" She wanted to make sure that he was comfortable after all she wasn't going to let this opportunity go to waste. She wasn't even going to bring up the girlfriend which she suspected was more of an ex now.

"Yeah that film will do, it's a bit cheesy but I am sure we can deal with it." She took it off him and put it in the dvd player before settling down on the sofa. "Come on, come and sit down!" She patted the empty space next to her and picked up the control skipping through the adverts to the menu to start the film. She then picked up the ice cream and chocolate.

"What you want first? Hope you don't mind having a girly like evening but you sounded like you needed it." She smiled at him, keeping the smile soft and genuine. She wasn't stupid and she knew Chris wasn't. She just wanted to feel close to him again, she had missed it and well... was it wrong to want to be close to him again?

Chris smiled a little sheepishly and made his way over to the couch when she took the film from him, sitting next to her. This was almost like old times, but he couldn't quite seem to remember if they'd ever been so casual before. They were both used to fancy things getting dressed up to go out to nice places, or even just lounge around in nice clothes. Nicer than sweatpants and the likes, at least. But he liked it... It was very... unthreatening.

"Oh, um... I don't mind... the ice cream is fine," he said with a forced smile, although he did frown shortly after. "Why do you say I sound like I need it...?" Was it that bad...? Did he really sound like he was in distress or whatever it was that Skye was picking up on? That hadn't been the intention at all...

Then again... why had he called Skye...? Out of all the people he could have called... why his ex...? Maybe it was because she knew him well, but was still rather distant from his life as it currently was...? He'd only ever mentioned his 'girlfriend', and even then it was only in passing. There were things Skye didn't know about him, but... maybe that was why being at her place didn't make him feel uncomfortable.

Skye just smiled and passed the ice cream over, handing him a spoon with the tub.

"Oh you just sounded down, so binge eating in front of a cheesy film seemed like a good idea. We can do something else if I was wrong?" She thought she would throw that out there but she didn't think he would have a problem with it and so she started the film and lent back with the ice cream. She grabbed a blanket and put it over them both and leaned back. Subtly she moved closer to him, partly without realising but when she did she lent her head on his shoulder, eating the ice cream as if this was all normal and nothing was wrong. After all this was how it should have been. Skye and Chris all alone together. Yeah Skye wanted him, and well she was being careful. She didn't want Chris to get scared off and so she just ate ice cream, watched the film and seemingly ignored him, other then leaning on him.

He took the tub when it was handed to him, poking at the ice cream and holding it out for her to eat from as well, not minding at all that she moved closer. In fact, he was glad that she was there. He didn't know who else to turn to for comfort and with Skye, well... there was a certain familiarity that was brought back to him, from when things were easier.

Chris shifted a bit after a while, moving to place his arm around her so that she could get more comfortable against him and they could share the blanket easier. He was also glad that she wasn't doing anything that could make him feel uncomfortable... She was just... being Skye. Only the sweeter, less gussied up version of the girl he used to call his girlfriend.

"You know how I said I was seeing someone before?" he said, maybe about a fourth of the way into the movie, pausing in eating the ice cream for a few moments as well. "Uh, yeah... I guess that was a mistake," he admitted, shifting a bit awkwardly where he was sitting and not knowing what else to say but... he was there and Skye had the right to know. And she'd let him come over without a second thought and didn't even bombard him with questions... It was... nice...

Skye looked at him when he mentioned pretty much what she had guessed. She didn't say anything though she just moved her hand onto his in that comforting sort of way.

"You will find the right girl don't worry. After all I am sure you have a small army of girls just waiting to pounce once they find out you are single again!" She giggled a little and continued to eat ice cream and watch the film, her hand didn't move off of his though.

She moved her head back onto his shoulder and just smiled, this was nice. With Jack and her there wasn't any real relationship or cuddle times it was just sex but there was something being like this with Chris that brought back to her why it was worth having a relationship though she knew she had blown her time with Chris and well she wasn't sorry to say this girl had either.

Chris made a face at the thought of a small army of girls waiting to jump him now that he was single. Yeah, that would be... well... it might give him a bit of an ego boost, but at the same time that was just too much to deal with.

Either way, he let Skye take his hand, and after a while he shifted to be able to hold hers in his. It had been quite a while since they'd been together like this, much less holding hands and watching a movie. A good few years. Sometimes he missed it, if only for the familiarity that Skye's presence offered. Yeah, their relationship could have ended on much better terms, but it wasn't as if he hated her. Heck, he didn't even dislike her. He didn't like the situation they'd been thrown into, but other than that it wasn't as if he viewed her as some horrible person.

For the moment, at least... he could forget that they'd been forced so far apart and just take comfort in her company. The warmth of her hand reminding him that he wasn't alone. It sounded horrible and cheesy in his head, so he definitely wouldn't say it out loud, but he liked that she was so willing to open her door for him to stay and relax for a few hours.
