The area is beautiful. Lush green and brown everywhere, crisp grass scent rising from broken blades beneath her hooves, the faint chiming of birdsong followed by the abrupt silence indicating that another creature disturbed the bird's peace. It was lovely. As always, she had no destination in mind, merely wandering wherever the shifts in wind would take her, moving in whichever direction felt right.
Every so often she would pause her meandering steps to wait for the crane that slowly but inevitably followed in her footsteps, but never for long- never did she wait more than a few minutes, and even when she stood still there was an itch in her thighs that said go, go, keep moving, don't stop.
Eventually, she would need to, but for now, the windshift tempted her to the east, and so she turned, breezing past her watchful crane and continuing on her path.

He wasn't aware that anyone had stepped foot into his territory until a loud, ugly shriek lifted into the swamp, a howl that was as familiar to Alone as his own face in the water when he went to drink. Gentle Nightmare had noticed someone, and Alone made his way toward the howl, curious to see who had arrived. Cold Water Flames padded alongside him for a time, then padded off in search of interesting prey. Alone suspected that the eaglehound had caught scent of some delicious little creature on the wind.
When he saw the doe, Alone froze for a moment, finding himself unsure. Was she looking for him? Did she even know he existed? As always, he hesitated in sight as he watched her.

There was a howl, and Drifts' head lifted from the ground beneath her feet, gaze drifting around the area. Trees, grass, mud beneath her hooves... and an owlcat, way up high. She was intelligent enough to wonder if it had been a warning call... but not focused enough to follow the thought, instead letting it float away as she continued to meander along. It could have been minutes or hours later when her eyes lifted again and she saw the buck, dim colors accented with purple. He looked... surprised, and worried.
"Hello." Her voice was quiet, unobtrusive, and almost... off, as if there were part of it missing, part of it that had been left elsewhere. But then, that was how everything about her was. She stopped where she stood, recognizing the slight ache in her thighs and belly as a sign that it was time to stop, to get a drink and relax before continuing on her way.
Here was as good a place as any.

"Hello," Alone returned cautiously, brows furrowing a bit as he tried to place what seemed off about her. "Are you... all right?" he finally asked, moving closer to her as Gentle Nightmare hopped down to land on his back, screeching at her once more. Alone ignored the owlcat, except to hold still long enough for it to settle safely on him.

"Oh, yes, I'm quite alright," she said easily. An inhale brought his scent to her, the same scent subtly pervading the area. "I did not realize I was on your land, my apologies. I don't suppose you would know somewhere I can rest my hooves? It has been a long day, and I've not yet stopped for a break." There was probably some social etiquette she was missing here... but then she'd never really been very good at that anyways.

Solitude blinked, his eyes narrowing for a moment before he nodded and padded over. "Come with me," he said, knowing that at the very least, he could ensure that she rested properly, full of food and drink. "I sleep near a pool of moving water. You can drink there." He lifted his snout, making a call that echoed through the area, and a few minutes later, Cold Water Flames appeared nearby. Alone made a series of soft sounds, and the eaglehound darted back off.
"He'll bring something for you to eat," he said, knowing from long history with the eaglehound that he'd follow through on the promise with something, even if it was small.

"Thank you." That was one social nicety she had picked up rather quickly. She eyed the eaglehound with some interest, before moving up beside Solitude, her flank gently brushing his for a brief moment before she side-stepped, waiting for him to lead the way. "I am Drifting Petal. You... have a name as well?" Of course he did, but as she recalled, it was polite to ask, rather than demand.

Solitude blinked as she brushed against him, his mind stuck for a moment on how very nice that contact felt. After a second, he came back to himself and moved to guide her toward the pool. "I'm Solitude," he said, his voice soft as he walked close. "Sometimes, kimeti call me Alone," he added, not quite sure whether he should be ashamed of that.

"You do not seem alone to me," Drifts responded, gazing steadily first at the owlcat on his back, then in the direction the eaglehound had taken off in. "There is nothing wrong with not being surrounded by others of your kind- I find that I very rarely am, myself." It was nice to speak for the purpose of communicating, for once, instead of just to hear her own voice, and she found herself being slightly more verbose than she had expected... Ah, well, it couldn't hurt anything.
